Well, you've come to the right place.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>After cobbling together minutes with two-way players like <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-1-overreaction-trade-target-amid-chaotic-start-season">Dominik Barlow and Jabari Walker at the power forward spot</a> as Paul George recovers from a knee injury, the Philadelphia 76ers decided to give Trendon Watford the nod at starting power forward in their first game back in black, gold, and red jerseys, and were immediately rewarded for that decision with a career-best two-way barrage.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/toronto-raptors/raptors-news-brandon-ingram-spikes-water-bottle-ugly-play-76ers">Taking the court against a Toronto Raptors team</a> that just took care of the Atlanta Hawks the night before, the excitement in South Philadelphia was at an all-time high, with a returning Hip-Hop teaming up with Franklin for a mascot one-two punch as the 2000-01 team was celebrated on the court and throughout the game. Watford, taking the court alongside his good friend Tyrese Maxey, came out of the gate hot and turned in an all-time great effort at the power forward spot, scoring 20 points, a career-high 17 rebounds, and 10 assists on the way to his <a href="https://Twitter.com/ClutchPoints/status/1987358426146750819" rel="noopener">first-ever triple-double</a>.</p><p>Goodness, a 6-foot-9, 240-pound forward-sized player dishing out passes and bringing in rebounds on the regular? Is it too soon to compare that to Ben Simmons? Considering Watford has already made four 3-pointers in six games of action, that might not be the perfect comp.</p><p>Now granted, this is just one game. Watford hasn’t played this well in any of the other games he’s played in so far this season, and is still working his way back from a hamstring injury he suffered in the preseason. He could fall back to earth in the 76ers’ next game against the Detroit Pistons and may be relegated to the bench regardless of when PG returns to the starting lineup in the future. Number one overall draft pick <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/dallas-mavericks/mavericks-news-cooper-flagg-kobe-bryant-lebron-james-nba-history">Cooper Flagg had a solid game</a> in this one, scoring 20 points, but it still was an ugly night for the Mavericks’ offense overall, as the team didn’t even get to the century mark on the evening.</p><p>Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd has been experimenting with playing Flagg at point guard at times this season, and recently, Golden State Warriors power forward Draymond Green <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=1487&amp;v=cvqNmCugru0&amp;feature=youtu.be" rel="noopener">explained why he thinks</a> that isn’t a great idea.</p><p>“I think the one thing I would say about starting Cooper Flagg at point guard is you just got to be careful. It’s not his real position. You ask yourself this question. If Ben Simmons was allowed to be a power forward that can handle the ball the way he handled the ball, does his career turn out differently than making him a point guard?” wondered Green, per The Draymond Green Show.</p><p>Indeed, Ben Simmons has become somewhat of a cautionary tale about what happens when a hyper-talented prospect doesn’t have those talents utilized correctly.</p><p>“…so what I would just say about Cooper Flagg is you got to be careful playing him at point guard. I understand the thinking behind it but the last thing you want is him to lose his confidence trying to play point guard. Simmons has been billed as the “next LeBron James” before he was drafted first overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2016 NBA Draft, but here he is, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/nba-rumors-ben-simmons-unsure-continuing-career-amid-knicks-interest">without a job in the NBA</a> even though training camp is about to begin in a few days.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/nba-news-ben-simmons-career-update-retirement-rumors">Simmons is a cautionary tale of unfulfilled potential</a>, although some of it isn’t his fault; he did experience injury woes that sapped him of the athleticism that made him a special player, rendering him a shell of his former self. And who knows, maybe once his mind is in a better place, he could still end up being a productive player off an NBA team’s bench — provided, of course, that he’s open to that idea.</p><h2><b>Ben Simmons is still looking for an NBA home</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/New-York-has-strong-interest-in-Ben-Simmons.jpg"><figcaption>Credit: Robert Edwards</figcaption></figure><p>At the moment, it’s understandable why NBA teams are a bit wary of getting on the Simmons train. He’s very injury-prone, so he just might end up hogging a roster spot without the possibility of it paying off in a big way.</p><p>But <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/sacramento-kings/kings-news-ben-simmons-named-potential-sacramento-free-agent-target">Simmons’ positional versatility</a> as well as whatever upside he has left may prove to be enticing for teams that lack depth, particularly in the frontcourt.</p><p>Maybe the Boston Celtics, a team that has nonexistent frontcourt depth, could use him, provided that they find enough wiggle room under the second apron. The Golden State Warriors could also use him, especially when they’re stuck dealing with the Jonathan Kuminga situation and their roster size is stuck at nine.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
