Bogdanovic was the centerpiece of the deal, while Mann should be a contributor right away for the Hawks.</p><p>Hyland came over to the Hawks with many fans hoping that he would see the consistent playing time that he has been lacking with the Clippers. However, he won’t be sticking around in Atlanta. The Hawks <a href="https://x.com/ChrisBHaynes/status/1887999509822574744" rel="noopener">are going to waive</a> Hyland, according to senior NBA insider Chris Haynes.</p><p>Hyland is a talented scorer, but has not been able to stick in the league so far due to the other aspects of his game falling short. He started his career as the backup point guard for the Denver Nuggets, but his shortcomings on defense and as someone who can initiate offense for others and the team as a whole made it tough to play him in a playoff series. He never consistently earned playing time with the Clippers for the same reasons.</p><p>Now, it looks like the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hawks-news-deandre-hunter-bogdan-bogdanovic-trade-brotherhood-take">Hawks aren’t even going to take that chance</a>. Hyland will hit waivers, where teams will have a chance to claim him before officially hitting the open market as a free agent.</p><p>While it’s unclear if Hyland will be ready to play in a playoff setting, he is still the type of player that can give you quality regular season minutes and can be a spark plug off the bench. In his four seasons in the NBA, Hyland is scoring nearly 10 points per game in just 17 minutes of action per game. He shoots a tick under 40% from the field and about 36.4% from 3-point range. This season, however, Hyland has played a career-low 11.1 minutes a night in just 20 appearances in Los Angeles.</p><p>The Hawks will be an interesting team to watch for the rest of the regular season after trading away Bogdanovic <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cavs-news-deandre-hunter-hawks-trade">as well as De’Andre Hunter</a> at the deadline. Jalen Johnson is out for the season, so there isn’t a ton of help surrounding Trae Young at the moment. As Ty Lue’s rebuilt team surges up the standings, proving its bonafides as a top-tier title contender, there’s only been further indication Hyland won’t be a part of Los Angeles’ plans come the postseason. Why not move the third-year guard before the trade deadline, then?</p><p>As February 8th dawns, the Clippers have <a href="https://hoopshype.com/lists/nba-trade-deadline-intel-lakers-celtics-bulls-cavs-mavs-nets-pistons-wizards-grizzlies-wolves/" rel="noopener">set an asking price</a> of two second-round picks in exchange for Hyland, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, while the Minnesota Timberwolves and Charlotte Hornets are among teams who have shown interest in the third-year guard.</p><p>“Heading into Thursday’s trade deadline, there’s a growing belief the Clippers would consider trading guard Bones Hyland for two second-round picks, league sources told HoopsHype. The Timberwolves and Hornets are among the notable teams who’ve expressed trade interest in Hyland, league sources said.”</p><h2><b>Where would Bones Hyland fit best at trade deadline?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Clippers-news-LA-gets-good-news-on-Bones-Hyland-after-preseason-injury-scare.jpg"></figure><p>Hyland has made just 11 appearances for Los Angeles since losing his regular spot in the rotation after Harden’s third game with the Clippers. He’s averaged 2.2 points in 5.8 minutes per game over that timeframe, shooting a ghastly 22.5% from the field while getting on the floor exclusively in garbage time. Needless to say, he won’t be playing anything more than a bench-warming role with the Clippers as their quest for the first championship in franchise history continues.</p><p>Hyland’s shoot-first tendencies and imminently exploitable status on the other end as an undersized combo guard make him a tough fit in the playoffs. He’s played in just 10 postseason games over the last two years—five with the Denver Nuggets as a rookie and five more last season as the injury bug once again bit Los Angeles. Even before accounting for Hyland’s debilitating size issues on defense, there’s just not much use under the playoff microscope for a microwave scorer who’s at his best with the ball in his hands and isn’t a deadeye three-point shooter.</p><p>Maybe Minnesota could find a situational role for Hyland when the team needs extra scoring punch. Hyland will never be anything close to a positive defensively, but is at least less damaging on that side of the ball in a scheme built around traditional pick-and-roll coverage—with an elite rim-protector like Rudy Gobert behind him—rather than switching. The Wolves need all the offensive dynamism off the bench they can get, too, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-pistons-monte-morris-trade-interest-timberwolves" rel="noopener">especially from the perimeter</a>.</p><p>It’s hardly outlandish to think Hyland could make more of a difference at backup ball-handler for Minny against certain opponents, in specific circumstances of time and score than Jordan McLaughlin. As the Wolves vie for their first ever Larry O’Brien Trophy before a potentially transformational summer, all it would take for him to be worth the price of two future second-round picks is one game-changing sequence that has the potential to swing a seven-game series.</p><p>Hyland isn’t the only available player at the trade deadline who fits that bill, though, and is eligible for a contract extension come summer before hitting restricted free agency in the 2025 offseason. The cash-strapped Wolves could be more inclined to hold onto all their draft capital at the deadline instead of adding a bit player like Hyland who’s soon due a raise.</p><p>On the other hand, Hyland could make sense for a rebuilding team like Charlotte as a buy-low option, his scoring and playmaking talent best put to use over the 82-game grind. You’d assume the Hornets would be more invested in fostering the development of rookie Nick Smith Jr. than Hyland, though, further complicating his path to a trade at the deadline.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Tucker and young guard Bones Hyland, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.</p><p>“Amid the hot streak, the Clippers are gauging the trade market on Bones Hyland and PJ Tucker, league sources told HoopsHype,” the report reads.</p><p>HoopsHype also reported that if he isn’t moved before the deadline, Tucker “is not expected to discuss a buyout.” The 38-year-old is making $11 million this season and has a player option for $11.5 million next season.</p><h2><b>Clippers have flourished without Tucker or Hyland</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/James-Harden-Russell-Westbrook-Kawhi-Leonard-Paul-George-Los-Angeles-Clippers.webp"></figure><p>After being acquired by the Clippers earlier in the season as part of the James Harden trade, Tucker averaged 14 minutes in 12 games before completely falling out of the rotation. He hasn’t played a game since Nov. 27,  when the team lost at home to a Denver Nuggets team without Nikola Jokić, Jamal Murray, or Aaron Gordon. The Clippers have gone 23-6 since then as the trio of Harden, Kawhi Leonard, and Paul George has hit their stride and transformed the Clippers into one of the most formidable teams in the NBA.</p><p>Shams Charania of The Athletic <a href="https://theathletic.com/5126208/2023/12/11/pascal-siakam-zach-lavine-trade-rumors-nba-hawks-kings-bulls/" rel="noopener">reported in December</a> that Tucker had “expressed frustration about his current situation with the team, and both sides are discussing ways to resolve a role for him there or elsewhere.” As Yahoo Sports’ Jake Fischer reported, the Milwaukee Bucks <a href="https://sports.yahoo.com/adrian-griffins-dismissal-likely-signals-more-moves-for-the-bucks-153321153.html" rel="noopener">could be a potential landing spot</a> for Tucker, who won the 2021 NBA championship in Milwaukee, if the Bucks decide to move Pat Connaughton and Cameron Payne. Tucker played last season under new Bucks coach Doc Rivers when they were both in Philadelphia.</p><p>As for Hyland, the 23-year-old guard’s minutes have also largely vanished after averaging 11.8 points in 23.5 minutes over the first eight games of the season. Since then, he has played sporadically, averaging 2.2 points and 5.8 minutes in just 10 games since Nov. 10.</p><p>The Clippers acquired Hyland at the trade deadline last year after the Denver Nuggets and Hyland reportedly disagreed on a suitable amount of playing time. Before this season, he had accumulated career game averages of 10.9 points and 2.9 assists.</p><p>Hyland, the 26th overall draft pick in 2021, is earning $2.3 million this season and is set for a $4.2 million salary next season. As part of his rookie-scale contract, he will be a restricted free agent in the 2025 offseason.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

From the Lob City era to the Kawhi Leonard-Paul George era, he brings you everything you need to know about the Clippers.In his off time, Tomer likes to play basketball, video games, and draw.You can follow his Twitter for all Clippers content below:</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Exclusive</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>LOS ANGELES, CA – Bones Hyland started the season playing well for the Los Angeles Clippers, but has turned into a casualty of the James Harden trade and Tyronn Lue’s rotation.</p><p>Riding a four-game losing streak heading into Sunday’s matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies, <a href="https://twitter.com/TomerAzarly/status/1723850212265853020" rel="noopener">Lue approached Bones Hyland</a> and informed him that he would be out of the rotation as the Clippers try to sort through their guard-heavy roster to find lineups that work.</p><p>When the Clippers made the trade for James Harden, sending out four power forwards to bring in the star guard and forward PJ Tucker, it was clear there was an abundance of guards on this team, all of whom need to play. It’s part of what made the Harden trade confusing at the time and even today.</p><p>Ultimately, the goal is to win games, which <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/the-la-clippers-have-99-problems-and-james-harden-is-just-one" rel="noopener">the Clippers have simply</a> been unable to do since acquiring Harden on November 1st. With no choice but to stay away from the dreadful three-guard lineups that the Clippers were forced to roll out last season, Lue elected to see what he has in the rotation with Hyland out. Through two games, the Clippers have yet to win a game.</p><p>“I want to see this rotation for a little while,” Tyronn Lue said of Bones Hyland’s DNP after the Grizzlies loss. “Norm finally gave us a good game offensively. So the rotation is just playing 10 guys early on. Just kind of see who fits and who plays well together. I thought Bones was playing really well, so it is not a good feeling for a coach when a guy’s playing well to have to sit him down because of the rotations.”</p><p>ClutchPoints spoke with Hyland after Tyronn Lue’s comments and the Clippers recent loss, where he said he appreciates Lue being candid with him.</p><p>“That’s what you wanted before head coach come to you and tell you what’s going on, so it’s cool,” <a href="https://twitter.com/TomerAzarly/status/1724641077389623799" rel="noopener">Bones Hyland told ClutchPoints</a>. “I mean, obviously, you know, nobody wants to sit on the bench when they’re playing good. At the end of the day, I’m a team player, though. We’ve just got to figure some things out. You know, we’re trying to compete, get on the same level for one thing and that’s a championship. So we got to figure stuff out right now and it is what it is.”</p><p>While he currently does not have a role in the rotation, Lue said Hyland have more opportunities soon and to stay ready.</p><p>“We talked and he understood and he’s going to be professional and continue to keep working,” Lue added. “His time is going to come, but right now just to stay away from that small lineup and just, unfortunately, it had to be Bones. He was playing well.”</p><p>Through both the losses against the Grizzlies and Denver Nuggets, Hyland was cheering on the team, staying engaged inside huddles, and hyping guys up during timeouts.</p><p>“That’s always been me, though,” Hyland explained to ClutchPoints. “I’ve never been the type of guy to, if I’m not playing, I’m not going to not cheer for my teammates and stuff like that. That’s not me. I’m not a selfish guy. We’re all trying to figure it out together. So we all got positive energy, all trying to figure it out and obviously it’s tough losing games consecutively, but we’re all in this thing together. We know the bigger picture.”</p><p>The Clippers are now riding a six-game losing streak and have not won a game in November yet. Their next game will be Friday, November 17th, against Fred VanVleet and the Houston Rockets. It remains to be seen how long this rotation — or roster — can be kept together if the team is unable to put together wins.
