Bogdanovic was the centerpiece of the deal, while Mann should be a contributor right away for the Hawks.</p><p>Hyland came over to the Hawks with many fans hoping that he would see the consistent playing time that he has been lacking with the Clippers. However, he won’t be sticking around in Atlanta. The Hawks <a href="https://x.com/ChrisBHaynes/status/1887999509822574744" rel="noopener">are going to waive</a> Hyland, according to senior NBA insider Chris Haynes.</p><p>Hyland is a talented scorer, but has not been able to stick in the league so far due to the other aspects of his game falling short. He started his career as the backup point guard for the Denver Nuggets, but his shortcomings on defense and as someone who can initiate offense for others and the team as a whole made it tough to play him in a playoff series. He never consistently earned playing time with the Clippers for the same reasons.</p><p>Now, it looks like the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hawks-news-deandre-hunter-bogdan-bogdanovic-trade-brotherhood-take">Hawks aren’t even going to take that chance</a>. Hyland will hit waivers, where teams will have a chance to claim him before officially hitting the open market as a free agent.</p><p>While it’s unclear if Hyland will be ready to play in a playoff setting, he is still the type of player that can give you quality regular season minutes and can be a spark plug off the bench. In his four seasons in the NBA, Hyland is scoring nearly 10 points per game in just 17 minutes of action per game. He shoots a tick under 40% from the field and about 36.4% from 3-point range. This season, however, Hyland has played a career-low 11.1 minutes a night in just 20 appearances in Los Angeles.</p><p>The Hawks will be an interesting team to watch for the rest of the regular season after trading away Bogdanovic <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cavs-news-deandre-hunter-hawks-trade">as well as De’Andre Hunter</a> at the deadline. Jalen Johnson is out for the season, so there isn’t a ton of help surrounding Trae Young at the moment. As Ty Lue’s rebuilt team surges up the standings, proving its bonafides as a top-tier title contender, there’s only been further indication Hyland won’t be a part of Los Angeles’ plans come the postseason. Why not move the third-year guard before the trade deadline, then?</p><p>As February 8th dawns, the Clippers have <a href="https://hoopshype.com/lists/nba-trade-deadline-intel-lakers-celtics-bulls-cavs-mavs-nets-pistons-wizards-grizzlies-wolves/" rel="noopener">set an asking price</a> of two second-round picks in exchange for Hyland, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, while the Minnesota Timberwolves and Charlotte Hornets are among teams who have shown interest in the third-year guard.</p><p>“Heading into Thursday’s trade deadline, there’s a growing belief the Clippers would consider trading guard Bones Hyland for two second-round picks, league sources told HoopsHype. The Timberwolves and Hornets are among the notable teams who’ve expressed trade interest in Hyland, league sources said.”</p><h2><b>Where would Bones Hyland fit best at trade deadline?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Clippers-news-LA-gets-good-news-on-Bones-Hyland-after-preseason-injury-scare.jpg"></figure><p>Hyland has made just 11 appearances for Los Angeles since losing his regular spot in the rotation after Harden’s third game with the Clippers. He’s averaged 2.2 points in 5.8 minutes per game over that timeframe, shooting a ghastly 22.5% from the field while getting on the floor exclusively in garbage time. Needless to say, he won’t be playing anything more than a bench-warming role with the Clippers as their quest for the first championship in franchise history continues.</p><p>Hyland’s shoot-first tendencies and imminently exploitable status on the other end as an undersized combo guard make him a tough fit in the playoffs. He’s played in just 10 postseason games over the last two years—five with the Denver Nuggets as a rookie and five more last season as the injury bug once again bit Los Angeles. Even before accounting for Hyland’s debilitating size issues on defense, there’s just not much use under the playoff microscope for a microwave scorer who’s at his best with the ball in his hands and isn’t a deadeye three-point shooter.</p><p>Maybe Minnesota could find a situational role for Hyland when the team needs extra scoring punch. Hyland will never be anything close to a positive defensively, but is at least less damaging on that side of the ball in a scheme built around traditional pick-and-roll coverage—with an elite rim-protector like Rudy Gobert behind him—rather than switching. The Wolves need all the offensive dynamism off the bench they can get, too, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-pistons-monte-morris-trade-interest-timberwolves" rel="noopener">especially from the perimeter</a>.</p><p>It’s hardly outlandish to think Hyland could make more of a difference at backup ball-handler for Minny against certain opponents, in specific circumstances of time and score than Jordan McLaughlin. As the Wolves vie for their first ever Larry O’Brien Trophy before a potentially transformational summer, all it would take for him to be worth the price of two future second-round picks is one game-changing sequence that has the potential to swing a seven-game series.</p><p>Hyland isn’t the only available player at the trade deadline who fits that bill, though, and is eligible for a contract extension come summer before hitting restricted free agency in the 2025 offseason. The cash-strapped Wolves could be more inclined to hold onto all their draft capital at the deadline instead of adding a bit player like Hyland who’s soon due a raise.</p><p>On the other hand, Hyland could make sense for a rebuilding team like Charlotte as a buy-low option, his scoring and playmaking talent best put to use over the 82-game grind. You’d assume the Hornets would be more invested in fostering the development of rookie Nick Smith Jr. than Hyland, though, further complicating his path to a trade at the deadline.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Tucker and young guard Bones Hyland, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.</p><p>“Amid the hot streak, the Clippers are gauging the trade market on Bones Hyland and PJ Tucker, league sources told HoopsHype,” the report reads.</p><p>HoopsHype also reported that if he isn’t moved before the deadline, Tucker “is not expected to discuss a buyout.” The 38-year-old is making $11 million this season and has a player option for $11.5 million next season.</p><h2><b>Clippers have flourished without Tucker or Hyland</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/James-Harden-Russell-Westbrook-Kawhi-Leonard-Paul-George-Los-Angeles-Clippers.webp"></figure><p>After being acquired by the Clippers earlier in the season as part of the James Harden trade, Tucker averaged 14 minutes in 12 games before completely falling out of the rotation. He hasn’t played a game since Nov. 27,  when the team lost at home to a Denver Nuggets team without Nikola Jokić, Jamal Murray, or Aaron Gordon. The Clippers have gone 23-6 since then as the trio of Harden, Kawhi Leonard, and Paul George has hit their stride and transformed the Clippers into one of the most formidable teams in the NBA.</p><p>Shams Charania of The Athletic <a href="https://theathletic.com/5126208/2023/12/11/pascal-siakam-zach-lavine-trade-rumors-nba-hawks-kings-bulls/" rel="noopener">reported in December</a> that Tucker had “expressed frustration about his current situation with the team, and both sides are discussing ways to resolve a role for him there or elsewhere.” As Yahoo Sports’ Jake Fischer reported, the Milwaukee Bucks <a href="https://sports.yahoo.com/adrian-griffins-dismissal-likely-signals-more-moves-for-the-bucks-153321153.html" rel="noopener">could be a potential landing spot</a> for Tucker, who won the 2021 NBA championship in Milwaukee, if the Bucks decide to move Pat Connaughton and Cameron Payne. Tucker played last season under new Bucks coach Doc Rivers when they were both in Philadelphia.</p><p>As for Hyland, the 23-year-old guard’s minutes have also largely vanished after averaging 11.8 points in 23.5 minutes over the first eight games of the season. Since then, he has played sporadically, averaging 2.2 points and 5.8 minutes in just 10 games since Nov. 10.</p><p>The Clippers acquired Hyland at the trade deadline last year after the Denver Nuggets and Hyland reportedly disagreed on a suitable amount of playing time. Before this season, he had accumulated career game averages of 10.9 points and 2.9 assists.</p><p>Hyland, the 26th overall draft pick in 2021, is earning $2.3 million this season and is set for a $4.2 million salary next season. From the Lob City era to the Kawhi Leonard-Paul George era, he brings you everything you need to know about the Clippers.In his off time, Tomer likes to play basketball, video games, and draw.You can follow his Twitter for all Clippers content below:</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Exclusive</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>LOS ANGELES, CA – Bones Hyland started the season playing well for the Los Angeles Clippers, but has turned into a casualty of the James Harden trade and Tyronn Lue’s rotation.</p><p>Riding a four-game losing streak heading into Sunday’s matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies, <a href="https://twitter.com/TomerAzarly/status/1723850212265853020" rel="noopener">Lue approached Bones Hyland</a> and informed him that he would be out of the rotation as the Clippers try to sort through their guard-heavy roster to find lineups that work.</p><p>When the Clippers made the trade for James Harden, sending out four power forwards to bring in the star guard and forward PJ Tucker, it was clear there was an abundance of guards on this team, all of whom need to play. It’s part of what made the Harden trade confusing at the time and even today.</p><p>Ultimately, the goal is to win games, which <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/the-la-clippers-have-99-problems-and-james-harden-is-just-one" rel="noopener">the Clippers have simply</a> been unable to do since acquiring Harden on November 1st. With no choice but to stay away from the dreadful three-guard lineups that the Clippers were forced to roll out last season, Lue elected to see what he has in the rotation with Hyland out. Through two games, the Clippers have yet to win a game.</p><p>“I want to see this rotation for a little while,” Tyronn Lue said of Bones Hyland’s DNP after the Grizzlies loss. “Norm finally gave us a good game offensively. So the rotation is just playing 10 guys early on. Just kind of see who fits and who plays well together. I thought Bones was playing really well, so it is not a good feeling for a coach when a guy’s playing well to have to sit him down because of the rotations.”</p><p>ClutchPoints spoke with Hyland after Tyronn Lue’s comments and the Clippers recent loss, where he said he appreciates Lue being candid with him.</p><p>“That’s what you wanted before head coach come to you and tell you what’s going on, so it’s cool,” <a href="https://twitter.com/TomerAzarly/status/1724641077389623799" rel="noopener">Bones Hyland told ClutchPoints</a>. “I mean, obviously, you know, nobody wants to sit on the bench when they’re playing good. At the end of the day, I’m a team player, though. We’ve just got to figure some things out. You know, we’re trying to compete, get on the same level for one thing and that’s a championship. So we got to figure stuff out right now and it is what it is.”</p><p>While he currently does not have a role in the rotation, Lue said Hyland have more opportunities soon and to stay ready.</p><p>“We talked and he understood and he’s going to be professional and continue to keep working,” Lue added. “His time is going to come, but right now just to stay away from that small lineup and just, unfortunately, it had to be Bones. He was playing well.”</p><p>Through both the losses against the Grizzlies and Denver Nuggets, Hyland was cheering on the team, staying engaged inside huddles, and hyping guys up during timeouts.</p><p>“That’s always been me, though,” Hyland explained to ClutchPoints. “I’ve never been the type of guy to, if I’m not playing, I’m not going to not cheer for my teammates and stuff like that. That’s not me. I’m not a selfish guy. We’re all trying to figure it out together. So we all got positive energy, all trying to figure it out and obviously it’s tough losing games consecutively, but we’re all in this thing together. We know the bigger picture.”</p><p>The Clippers are now riding a six-game losing streak and have not won a game in November yet. Their next game will be Friday, November 17th, against Fred VanVleet and the Houston Rockets. It remains to be seen how long this rotation — or roster — can be kept together if the team is unable to put together wins. Now, the team gears up for their NBA In-Season Tournament debut against the Dallas Mavericks on Friday, November 10th. Bones Hyland recently revealed his thoughts on the league’s new tournament, or rather, his <a href="https://twitter.com/andrewgreif/status/1720494415268212871?s=46&amp;t=YAm5wwmcnC6J27chz4RDIQ" rel="noopener">lack of thought</a>.</p><h2><b>Clippers’ Bones Hyland is lost on the NBA In-Season tournament format</b></h2><p>In a post-practice press conference, Hyland said, “I’m not even going to lie. I don’t even know what’s going on,” per Andrew Greif. The young guard proceeded to erupt in laughter after addressing the topic. His response is likely widespread among many NBA fans and players.</p><p>In the past, the NBA discussed having an in-season competition to keep players and fans engaged in anticipation of the Playoffs. However, the idea did not come to fruition until 2023. Luckily, ClutchPoints created an <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-in-season-tournament-explained-schedule-format-dates-brackets" rel="noopener">NBA In-Season Tournament guide</a> to everything viewers need to know.</p><p>Teams in each conference are sectioned into groups. The various teams in each group will play each other at least once, and those with the best record will advance to the knockout stage. The knockout round will feature single-elimination games to determine the final tournament champion.</p><p>It will be interesting to see how the Clippers do after trading for James Harden. Harden adds to the trio of Paul George, Russell Westbrook, and Kawhi Leonard. Now, there are fears that he could also be sidelined when the 2023-24 season officially begins.</p><p>Hyland sustained the injury during the third quarter of their preseason game against the Denver Nuggets on Thursday. Amid a sensational night, Hyland was forced to leave after hurting his left ankle. The 23-year-old had to be helped off the court as he’s unable to put any weight on his injured foot.</p><p>While <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/clippers-get-good-news-on-bones-hyland-after-preseason-injury-scare" rel="noopener">X-rays on Hyland’s ankle</a> came back negative, the fact that he had to sit out Friday’s practice suggests that it’s still bothering him. The Clippers are set to evaluate him in a “few days,” which could mean <a href="https://www.nbcsports.com/fantasy/basketball/player-news?playerNewsId=0000018b-4e51-d210-a58f-4edfdb260000&amp;utm_source=dlvr.it&amp;utm_medium=twitter" rel="noopener">he might not be ready</a> for their season-opener on Wednesday, October 25 (via NBC Sports).</p><p>Bones Hyland has been projected to be a key member of the Clippers offense this 2023-24. Their season could have been put in jeopardy if Bones Hyland had went down but the 82 games have not yet counted.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/clippers-news-bones-hyland-gets-real-going-against-kawhi-leonard-practice" rel="noopener">Bones Hyland went down</a> in the middle of his revenge game against his former team, the Nuggets. He needed to be helped to the bench such that he could be treated. The injury looked like it bother him. This meant that Clippers fans were holding on to their breath for an update. Thankfully, X-rays on his ankle <a href="https://twitter.com/LawMurrayTheNU/status/1715218767410774087" rel="noopener">came back negative</a>, per Law Murray of The Athletic.</p><p>Hyland had an insane outburst in this NBA Preseason game. He notched 25 points before succumbing to injury. Furthermore, his playmaking chops were also on show for the Clippers. It got him six assists to help get his teammates involved. Finally, seven rebounds rounded out his all-around explosion against his previous teammates.</p><p>No one else came close to replicating his performance for the Paul George-led squad. The closest anyone came to backing him up was Terance Mann and Norman Powell both getting 10 points. But, the Nuggets put on a show led by Nikola Jokic despite Jamal Murray having a cold night. A 90 to 103 scoreline decided the showdown between both of these title-contending teams. But this past Monday morning, Nuggets general manager Calvin Booth made waves when he explained away his rationale for trading away Bones Hyland to the Los Angeles Clippers in an interview with Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer, and in the process of doing so, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nuggets-gm-sends-parting-shot-at-bones-hyland-after-clippers-trade-in-february" rel="noopener">appeared to take some shots</a> at Michael Porter Jr.’s playstyle.</p><p>Porter, as one would recall, was an instrumental part of the Nuggets’ run to the championship back in June, so it was a bit jarring to see Booth imply that MPJ was someone “who couldn’t guard” and was someone who was more of a “me guy”. While Porter’s shot-chucking ways and lackluster defense are <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nuggets-news-michael-porter-jr-roasts-haters-who-say-he-doesnt-pass" rel="noopener">well-known among fans</a>, it was still odd for a general manager, of all people, to acknowledge that on the record.</p><p>Now determined to stifle the backlash that has come since then from those comments, the Nuggets general manager <a href="https://twitter.com/msinger/status/1714486020463616499" rel="noopener">explained</a> that he’s not the kind of person who would make such comments in a public setting.</p><p>“Under no circumstances would I make or approve of those kind of comments for public consumption. That’s not my character, as a person or an executive,” Booth said on the ESPN2 broadcast, via Mike Singer of the Denver Post.</p><p>The Nuggets GM also stated that what he purportedly said in his interview with Kevin O’Connor “<a href="https://x.com/msinger/status/1714488359245238705?s=20" rel="noopener">wasn’t an accurate characterization</a>” of both Michael Porter Jr. and Bones Hyland, and he then called the former a “core piece” of the franchise.</p><p>It’s unclear what happened behind the scenes during Calvin Booth’s interview with the Ringer that he had to retract his statements that were quoted verbatim. Did Booth not know that he was going on the record? It’s difficult to believe that O’Connor would attribute a certain quote to a prominent personality without their consent given the repercussions of such a deed.</p><p>Whatever the case may be, it’s clear that the Nuggets are limiting the damage that came from a piece that was supposed to hype up the franchise, as the last thing they need is to alienate Michael Porter Jr. and drive a wedge between him and the franchise.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The Denver Nuggets and Bones Hyland already didn’t have the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-nuggets-final-straw-with-bones-hyland-that-resulted-in-trade-to-clippers" rel="noopener">most amicable divorce</a>, but general manager Calvin Booth might have just opened up some old wounds <a href="https://www.theringer.com/nba/2023/10/16/23918200/denver-nuggets-2023-season-preview-dynasty-christian-braun" rel="noopener">while explaining</a> why he traded the young guard  to the Los Angeles Clippers. And in the process, he seemingly landed an indirect jab on a core player still on the roster.</p><p>“I knew you couldn’t have two guys that couldn’t guard, and we couldn’t have two guys that were young and kind of more ‘me guys,’” Booth told The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor. “Mike {Michael Porter Jr.} makes $30 million. He’s one of the best shooters in the NBA. So, Bones, there’s no place for you.”</p><p>Yeesh. Fans are not accustomed to an executive being so forthright in their critique of a player’s skill set and will surely have a field day with Booth’s comments. In <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/clippers-news-bones-hyland-draws-eye-opening-response-from-former-coach" rel="noopener">the case of Hyland</a>, it was clear he fell out of favor well before he was shipped out to LA ahead of the NBA trade deadline. His minutes increased only slightly to 19.5 minutes per game in his second season, which is fairly uncommon for a former first-round pick. The writing was on the wall.</p><p>However, this explanation does add some intriguing insight into the front office’s mindset leading up to the decision to move on from Bones Hyland. Defense is not the 23-year-old’s calling card, as his strengths lie primarily beyond the 3-point line. Although probably unnecessary, Calvin Booth’s honest assessment does put a bow on this prolonged saga. But in doing so, he overshared.</p><h2><b>Did Nuggets’ Calvin Booth reveal too much?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/nuggets-news-michael-porter-jr-issues-9-word-warning-to-heat-ahead-of-crucial-game-3.jpg"></figure><p>Whether intentional or not, the Nuggets GM called out Michael Porter Jr., an active and key member of an NBA championship squad. Most fans are well-aware of the 2018 lottery pick’s defesnive limitations, but it is quite jarring to see a Denver higher-up blatantly spell them out.</p><p>Of course, he did bestow high praise onto Porter Jr. as well, which he has admittedly earned. He has a 50.6 field goal percentage through 187 regular season games. While he was lackluster in the postseason, the 25-year-old figures to be an integral part of the team for several years.</p><p>With the Nuggets set to defend their title in just over a week, no distractions can be tolerated. Maybe we should do it more often. They worked it out, everything is good.”</p><p>The Clippers, who were down by four points entering the fourth quarter at that point, eventually won the game by five points.</p><p>Hyland finished with 11 points (on 5-11 shooting from the field) and a pair of assists in 18 minutes. In the fourth quarter, he went 1-3 from the field, tallying two points and an assist.</p><p>Plumlee finished his night with nine points, four rebounds, three assists, and one steal in 22 minutes. Plumlee could be seen getting in Hyland’s face before the latter pushed him away.</p><p>The Clippers were playing the Phoenix Suns in the regular season finale, the same team they will see in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs in the 4 vs. 5 matchup. Los Angeles was trying to make sure they <a href="https://www.si.com/nba/suns/gameday/phoenix-suns-los-angeles-clippers-regular-season-recap" rel="noopener">stayed in the fifth position</a> with a victory, which they got by a score of 119-114.</p><p>It’s not uncommon to see players get into it during the course of game action. The first two are more recognizable to NBA fans for their on court play. But <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nuggets-news-bones-hyland-fires-shot-at-michael-malone-nuggets-coaching-staff-after-clippers-trade" rel="noopener">Hyland made headlines this season</a> for a different reason. Hyland was reportedly unhappy about his playing time and role and welcomed a trade. The Clippers are set to face-off against the Nuggets on Sunday in Hyland’s return to Ball Arena. It might not have ordinarily drawn a response, but Malone had just spent the previous minute gushing about former Nuggets center Mason Plumlee. The behind the scenes issues might never be revealed, but it’s clear the trade was beneficial for all parties involved.</p><p>Since the trade, Hyland has appeared in two games for the Clippers and has averaged 7.5 points per game, 3.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals in around 16 minutes of play. He’s shot 40 percent from the field, 50 percent from the three-point line and 71.4 percent from the free-throw line. With the arrival of Russell Westbrook, however, Hyland doesn’t appear to be in the Clippers rotation anymore.
