The Hornets beat the Orlando Magic in the first round in 2002 before succumbing to the New Jersey Nets in the conference semifinals.</p><p>Since then, the franchise has only qualified for the playoffs thrice, all ending in the opening round. The Hornets have the longest active drought in the NBA as they have missed the postseason for nine straight seasons.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/charlotte-hornets/hornets-news-brandon-millers-injury-update-will-hype-fans-up-2025-26-nba-season">Miller is eager to turn things around in Charlotte</a>. But after an impressive rookie year, he hurt his right wrist last season, limiting him to just 27 games. His backcourt mate, Ball, meanwhile, only played 27 games due to various injuries.</p><p>While they form a talented duo, their inability to stay on the floor together has become a concern. The 22-year-old Miller said he is <a href="https://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/charlotte-hornets/article311476077.html" rel="noopener">aware of the issue</a>.</p><p>“It’s always the main thing, you know, just keeping our bodies together. We know it’s a long season. Having us two on the floor can make a big difference (in having) a winning team,” said Miller in an interview with The Charlotte Observer’s Langston Wertz Jr.</p><p>The second overall pick in 2023, Miller played 74 games in his rookie campaign. Ball, however, only featured in 22 outings following an ankle surgery.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/charlotte-hornets/hornets-news-lamelo-ball-tattoo-artist-admits-trolling-hot-chee-toes-post">Ball, who recently went viral over a tattoo joke</a>, has yet to regain the consistency that made him an All-Star in just his second year with the Hornets in 2022. It remains unclear if he will be ready before the new season.</p><p>Fortunately for Charlotte, which is coming from a 19-63 record, Miller is on the right track to recovery, saying his right wrist is “around 90-95%” ready.</p><p>“I started contact (drills). Brandon Miller, in particular, made plenty of strides last season, averaging 21.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per contest before <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/charlotte-hornets/hornets-news-brandon-miller-miss-remainder-of-season-wrist-surgery">a wrist injury he sustained back in January</a> cut his sophomore season short.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/hornets-brandon-miller-gives-inside-scoop-on-most-important-part-of-injury-rehab">Miller only played in 27 games last season</a> as a result of not only his season-ending wrist injury that required surgery, but also because of the minor knocks he picked up here and there throughout the season. He’s only 22 years old, but that tendency of his may be a cause for concern for some Hornets fans.</p><p>Regardless, there’s a bit over two months to go before the 2025-26 season begins, and it looks like Miller will be <a href="https://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/charlotte-hornets/article311476077.html" rel="noopener">better than ever</a> in his return for the Hornets if his self-update on his wrist injury is to be believed.</p><p>“[My wrist is] probably around 90-95% now. I started contact (drills). I’ll be ready the first day the season starts and I’m just excited to get back out on the court with my guys,” Miller told Langston Wertz Jr. of the Charlotte Observer.</p><p>That should be music to the ears of Hornets fans who would want nothing more than to see their young core finally play together and stay off the injury bug. But he has displayed a similar smooth shot-making ability as well as tantalizing athleticism that elicits oohs and ahhs from the crowd. Probably a few months,” Miller said. “Right now we’re just taking everything slow, not trying to rush anything back. Right now we’re working on range in motion. I think that’s the most important part right now. I can’t shoot, can’t do nothing. Taking the small steps until we get back playing.”</p><p>It’s also important to note that Miller was not in a cast <a href="https://x.com/HornetsReddit/status/1909688216518586472">but in a brace during the exit interviews</a>. It sounds like it’ll be a slow process, but he can afford to take his time. Missing the playoffs isn’t ideal for the team, but there’s no rush to get him back. I just tried to bring positivity to the group every day.”</p><p>For most of his basketball life, Miller has been durable enough to avoid major injuries. Even in the first season of his career, Miller played in 74 games, finishing behind Victor Wembanyama in the Rookie of the Year voting. Be sure to follow him on Twitter @BrettSiegelNBA.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Charlotte Hornets</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>Charlotte Hornets forward <a href="https://www.nba.com/hornets/news/hornets-injury-update-8" rel="noopener">Brandon Miller underwent successful surgery</a> to repair a torn scapholunate ligament in his right wrist on Thursday and will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season as a result, the team announced.</p><p>At this time, there is no clear timeframe for Miller’s recovery after having surgery on Thursday. The Hornets will provide further updates when appropriate.</p><p>Miller, 22, was in the midst of his second NBA season with Charlotte before <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-news-charlotte-gets-crushing-brandon-miller-injury-update-after-bulls-thriller">suffering this wrist injury</a> on Jan. 15 against the Utah Jazz. He recorded 20 points and five rebounds in 33 minutes against the Jazz, helping lift the Hornets to a 117-112 win.</p><p>The 2023 second-overall pick finishes the 2024-25 season averaging 21.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game while shooting 40.3 percent from the floor and 35.5 percent from three-point range.</p><p>Before suffering this wrist injury, Miller was in the midst of arguably the best offensive stretch of his career.</p><p>Over his last 11 games, Miller averaged 21.6 points per game while shooting 41.4 percent from the floor. Miller recorded at least 20 points in seven games during this span, including a 34-point night with seven made triples in a 110-104 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.</p><p>Earlier this season, Miller recorded a career-high 38 points with eight triples in a 123-121 overtime win against the Detroit Pistons.</p><p>Miller missing the remainder of the 2024-25 season is yet another setback for a young Hornets team that is in the midst of a rebuild. Grant Williams is already out for the season due to a torn ACL and other knee ligaments, and star guard LaMelo Ball has missed 11 games due to injury as well.</p><p>Amid their lackluster 11-29 record, the Hornets have won four of their last six games, highlighted by a 110-105 victory over the Dallas Mavericks recently on MLK Day.</p><p>Without Miller on the court, the Hornets and first-year head coach Charles Lee will look to allocate more minutes to Josh Green, Cody Martin, and possibly newly acquired Josh Okogie.</p><p>Charlotte is currently tied with the Toronto Raptors for the third-fewest wins in the league this season.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Instead of being able to celebrate a hard-fought 125-123 win over the Chicago Bulls on Friday night, the Hornets received news that sophomore forward Brandon Miller, one of the fastest-rising young stars in the league, has suffered a torn scapholunate ligament in his right wrist and is <a href="https://x.com/rodboone/status/1880457063169663193?s=46&amp;t=vnLDgTn4yNZudl1UzUUjJA" rel="noopener">out indefinitely</a>, as per Rod Boone of The Charlotte Observer.</p><p>Miller has been dealing with a wrist injury in recent weeks, landing himself on the injury report prior to the Hornets’ clash against the Bulls on Friday night. But clearly, the 22-year-old wasn’t even close to being 100 percent, as not only did he not receive the green light to suit up, he was diagnosed with a serious injury that leaves him with no concrete timeline for a return.</p><p>The nascent sophomore wing last suited up for the Hornets on January 15 in a 117-112 win over the Utah Jazz. During that contest, it didn’t seem as though Miller was being hampered by the wrist injury that would come to knock him out of action later on. He put up 20 points on 8-18 shooting from the field, and for once, it looked like the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-news-mark-williams-celebrates-core-4-jazz-win">Hornets were going to get their preferred starting five</a> for a consistent run of games.</p><p>Turns out, this uptick in injury luck was short-lived, and with the Hornets not really being in a competitive position, there is no sense in rushing Miller back in his recovery from the torn ligament in his right wrist — his dominant hand, no less.
