Probably a few months,” Miller said. “Right now we’re just taking everything slow, not trying to rush anything back. Right now we’re working on range in motion. I think that’s the most important part right now. I can’t shoot, can’t do nothing. Taking the small steps until we get back playing.”</p><p>It’s also important to note that Miller was not in a cast <a href="https://x.com/HornetsReddit/status/1909688216518586472">but in a brace during the exit interviews</a>. It sounds like it’ll be a slow process, but he can afford to take his time. Missing the playoffs isn’t ideal for the team, but there’s no rush to get him back. You have days when it’s fun and days when it’s not. I just tried to bring positivity to the group every day.”</p><p>For most of his basketball life, Miller has been durable enough to avoid major injuries. Even in the first season of his career, Miller played in 74 games, finishing behind Victor Wembanyama in the Rookie of the Year voting. The Hornets will provide further updates when appropriate.</p><p>Miller, 22, was in the midst of his second NBA season with Charlotte before <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-news-charlotte-gets-crushing-brandon-miller-injury-update-after-bulls-thriller">suffering this wrist injury</a> on Jan. 15 against the Utah Jazz. He recorded 20 points and five rebounds in 33 minutes against the Jazz, helping lift the Hornets to a 117-112 win.</p><p>The 2023 second-overall pick finishes the 2024-25 season averaging 21.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game while shooting 40.3 percent from the floor and 35.5 percent from three-point range.</p><p>Before suffering this wrist injury, Miller was in the midst of arguably the best offensive stretch of his career.</p><p>Over his last 11 games, Miller averaged 21.6 points per game while shooting 41.4 percent from the floor. Miller recorded at least 20 points in seven games during this span, including a 34-point night with seven made triples in a 110-104 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.</p><p>Earlier this season, Miller recorded a career-high 38 points with eight triples in a 123-121 overtime win against the Detroit Pistons.</p><p>Miller missing the remainder of the 2024-25 season is yet another setback for a young Hornets team that is in the midst of a rebuild. Grant Williams is already out for the season due to a torn ACL and other knee ligaments, and star guard LaMelo Ball has missed 11 games due to injury as well.</p><p>Amid their lackluster 11-29 record, the Hornets have won four of their last six games, highlighted by a 110-105 victory over the Dallas Mavericks recently on MLK Day.</p><p>Without Miller on the court, the Hornets and first-year head coach Charles Lee will look to allocate more minutes to Josh Green, Cody Martin, and possibly newly acquired Josh Okogie.</p><p>Charlotte is currently tied with the Toronto Raptors for the third-fewest wins in the league this season.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Instead of being able to celebrate a hard-fought 125-123 win over the Chicago Bulls on Friday night, the Hornets received news that sophomore forward Brandon Miller, one of the fastest-rising young stars in the league, has suffered a torn scapholunate ligament in his right wrist and is <a href="https://x.com/rodboone/status/1880457063169663193?s=46&amp;t=vnLDgTn4yNZudl1UzUUjJA" rel="noopener">out indefinitely</a>, as per Rod Boone of The Charlotte Observer.</p><p>Miller has been dealing with a wrist injury in recent weeks, landing himself on the injury report prior to the Hornets’ clash against the Bulls on Friday night. But clearly, the 22-year-old wasn’t even close to being 100 percent, as not only did he not receive the green light to suit up, he was diagnosed with a serious injury that leaves him with no concrete timeline for a return.</p><p>The nascent sophomore wing last suited up for the Hornets on January 15 in a 117-112 win over the Utah Jazz. During that contest, it didn’t seem as though Miller was being hampered by the wrist injury that would come to knock him out of action later on. He put up 20 points on 8-18 shooting from the field, and for once, it looked like the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-news-mark-williams-celebrates-core-4-jazz-win">Hornets were going to get their preferred starting five</a> for a consistent run of games.</p><p>Turns out, this uptick in injury luck was short-lived, and with the Hornets not really being in a competitive position, there is no sense in rushing Miller back in his recovery from the torn ligament in his right wrist — his dominant hand, no less. The 2024-25 NBA season was supposed to mark a noticeable shift for the franchise. A playoff berth was never a plausible goal, but first-year head coach Charles Lee imbued the Spectrum Center with something that had not existed in a while– hope. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-news-mark-williams-celebrates-core-4-jazz-win">The Hornets’ young core</a>, which includes <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-news-brandon-miller-details-improvement-charlotte-struggles">promising wing Brandon Miller</a>, was entrusted to feed that strange feeling.</p><p>Unfortunately, however, the same issues continue to afflict the team. Injuries derail momentum and prevents Charlotte from working through its basketball-related limitations– worst field goal percentage in league, 29th in points per game and 25th in 3-point shooting percentage. More than anything right now, fans want to see the Hornets close to or at full strength. But Miller’s injury status might crush that wish.</p><p>The No. 2 selection in the 2023 NBA Draft is listed on the injury report ahead of Friday’s road game versus the Chicago Bulls. Charlotte’s opponent has its own problems, so there is a legitimate possibility the team can win consecutive games for the first time in more than two months. It will probably need an active Miller to reach that benchmark, however.</p><p>Wins and losses are no longer a central aspect of this Charlotte basketball season, but building chemistry and confidence is vitally important for Lee and his squad. Uncertainty is the norm in Charlotte, and optimism is a rarity.</p><p>Miller, point guard Lonzo Ball and forward Miles Bridges have all missed at least 10 games during the 2024-25 campaign and center Mark Williams has missed more than 20. It is difficult to set goals when the most valuable players are inactive for considerable stretches of time. No coach is equipped to handle such a staggering amount of adversity. Nevertheless, Charles Lee must do what he can to light a spark in his team.</p><p>If Miller is cleared for action, the Hornets’ top three offensive talents will share the court together against the Bulls, and that is something fans do not take for granted. Additionally, Williams is listed probable with knee soreness. He must also be mentioned when discussing the nucleus of this franchise. The third-year big man has accumulated a combined 55 points and 29 rebounds in the last two games, so ideally he will get the chance to stay hot.</p><p>Hornets-Bulls tips off at 8 p.m. ET, giving the team some time to make final decisions on Williams and Brandon Miller. The latter is battling an offensive slump after earning All-Rookie First-Team honors last season. A wrist injury does not foretell a swift turnaround.</p><p>The former Alabama Crimson Tide star is averaging 21.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 40.3 percent. Miller will try to rediscover his rhythm the next time he suits up, which could still be on Friday night. That puts them at the 14th spot out East. On the bright side, despite the losing, Brandon Miller still feels like he and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-news-lamelo-ball-powerful-message-ending-10-game-skid-suns-stunner">the Hornets as a whole are improving</a>.</p><p>“I feel like as a player, just getting better every day, whether that’s a game or practice,” Miller said. “Just another opportunity to get better with my teammates and get on the right track.”</p><p>Miller has appeared in 26 games so far this season and has improved in year two, posting career-highs across the board. He’s getting to spots more effortlessly and getting the shots that he wants on a nightly basis. Averaging 21 points, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-news-brandon-miller-flowers-paul-george-nba-cup-76ers">things look easier for Miller around the midseason mark</a> in 2024-25.</p><h2><b>Brandon Miller reflects on recent matchup vs. Suns</b></h2><p>After losing to the Phoenix Suns 120-113, Miller sounded optimistic about not just himself, but his team’s progression as well.</p><p>“I know we went out with the right mindset, going out there and playing as hard as we can. Didn’t get the outcome we wanted, but it’s a long season, so just worry about the next game and try to go win with the most energy that we can.”</p><p>With LaMelo Ball and Mark Williams getting healthy and playing extended minutes, maybe Charlotte could make a run if they continue to make strides and stay productive. At one point in this matchup with the Suns, the Hornets were up by double digits. They squandered the lead eventually, but Miller, Ball, and Williams were three of the four leading scorers for the Hornets.</p><h2><b>Miller reveals what went wrong vs. Suns</b></h2><p>After having a lead over Phoenix, Miller felt like the could’ve had that game if they just did one thing throughout the rest of the game.</p><p>“I think we stay with the same pace we did in the first half and I think we win this game by a good amount. We could’ve had some defensive possessions that could have been better, but it’s part of the game. It’s a long season, but we’ll get on the same page one of these days.”</p><p>Playing with pace is the likely one of the keys to winning in any sport. Finding a way to generate easier shots once you find a groove that works for your team to build leads and stack wins. If the Hornets can identify how they want to play on a nightly basis, life would be easier for them.</p><p>Like Miller mentioned, it is a long season. They still have over 40 games to figure out how they like to play, the spots on the floor they want to attack, and whether they crash or leak out on the boards, everything matters. On the bright side, with a somewhat healthy team, we’ll eventually see how this team is supposed to operate when at full strength.</p><p>The Hornets have two more games to finish out their road trip in Utah and Chicago. Unfortunately for them, they’ve lost seven straight games and most of that has been due to the injuries to their star players LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller in a few games with some nagging injuries. Ball has played in four of the 11 games in December, while <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-news-brandon-miller-playing-wizards-injury-update">Miller hasn’t played at all this month</a>.</p><h2><b>LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller’s status vs. Bulls</b></h2><p>Both Ball and Miller are listed as doubtful to suit up against the Bulls. Ball has soreness in both his wrist and ankle, while Miller’s sprained ankle is likely to keep them out of this game. On the bright side for Ball, he’s already matched his amount of games from a season ago with 22 games. To see him potentially miss a few more games is frustrating, but it’s a consolation prize to see him a little more healthy heading into the new year.</p><h2><b>Hornets still trying to find the right mindset for the rest of the season</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Brandon-Miller-reacts-to-a-call.jpg"><figcaption>Scott Kinser-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Young teams go through adversity before actually figuring out their identity. With all the injuries they’ve had to their key players, it’s been hard to find it. Charles Lee talked about that and more after their loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.</p><p>“The message is that we’ve got to be obsessed with daily improvement. I think some adversity is (inevitable) in life and in basketball,” Lee said. “It’s going to happen, so we just have to be prepared to handle it the best that we possibly can. I think that the mindset that we come to work with every day, the mindset for every game, the competitiveness, the togetherness is just important to withstand.”</p><p>“Everyone’s journey is different,” the Hornets coach continued.  ‘There’s no quit in this team and there’s a ton of fight which is what I love, because that’s what it’s going to take. Nobody’s going to feel sorry for us. Life doesn’t feel sorry for you. The world keeps spinning, so you’ve got to figure out how do. I just kind of reset and refocus and come with the right attitude to make a change? A lot of that has got to be in your actions.”</p><h2><b>What the Hornets can take away from their roster</b></h2><p>It’s hard to find the silver lining when a team’s not winning games, but the Hornets so have some. One of them is that Mark Williams seems to be finding himself.</p><p>In nine games, he’s <a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/willima07.html" rel="noopener">putting up 11 points</a> and 6.7 rebounds, with just under a block per game. The numbers don’t jump off the page, but he’s moving well laterally and as a help defender. He doesn’t move the needle offensively like the Hornets’ two star players, but he’s finding his groove. He’s converting put-backs and catching lobs around the rim, but his true value has shined defensively being able to alter shots.</p><p>Charlotte is struggling to win games, but eventually, that will change.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Brandon Miller left the game with what appeared to be an ankle sprain. He tweaked it one time earlier in the game, tied his shoes up, and reentered, but he rolled it again, unfortunately. Miller exited the game in the third quarter after 31 minutes of action.</p><h2><b>Charles Lee’s update on Brandon Miller’s injury</b></h2><p>Hornets head coach Charles Lee had a front-row seat to Brandon Miller’s injury and addressed the media after the game when asked about his star-caliber forward.</p><p>“I think that he might have stepped on a foot in front of our bench – I’m not sure whose,” Lee said. “Then going down the other way, he drives on, I believe it was (Paul) George, and lays it in, and then just as he came down, he tweaked it. We’ll evaluate him, and I know our performance staff will be on top of it.”</p><p>Miller hobbled off the court and needed some assistance to head back to the locker room after the injury transpired. There’s no timetable yet for his return, but hopefully, it’s not too long. Miller finished with a game-high 34 points and was the bright spot for his team yet again. The Charlotte Hornets have now lost six straight games and would love to get back in the win column, but their young star’s scoring outburst should translate to that soon.</p><p>During the losing streak, Miller has managed to put up at least 20 points in eight straight games. Solidifying his role as one of the team’s go-to scorers on a nightly basis, no matter who’s in the lineup. With LaMelo Ball out at least two weeks, the onus falls on him to show out for his team to be competitive and he’s stepped up to the plate.</p><h2><b>Paul George gives Hornets’ Brandon Miller his props on his development</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Charlotte-Hornets-forward-Brandon-Miller-24-passes-the-ball.jpg"><figcaption>Sam Sharpe-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Paul George, who had 29 points of his own, traded buckets with his protege in this tight game. He made some glowing remarks about his protege’s game and how it’s grown.</p><p>“I was watching from the sideline, possessions when I wasn’t on the floor,” George said. “It was a chance to really watch him. I was just impressed with his level of maturation of letting the game come to him, slowing down, playing better in the paint. He just looked a lot more comfortable. I noticed that on the bench. We tried to take him out the game a little bit, but he wasn’t affected. He still kept being aggressive and kept shooting. Because of that, he found himself.”</p><p>The 76ers did blitz screens, send doubles, and try to force Miller into tough situations, but he still got to his spots and thrived. Miller’s game has really come into its own over the last few months.</p><h2><b>Charles Lee echoes Paul George’s sentiments and then some</b></h2><p>Hornets head coach Charles Lee is happy to see Brandon Miller’s growth on both ends of the floor. Which included a stint in guarding George to start the game.</p><p>“Really proud of Brandon. I thought he elevated his game defensively to start, starting him on (Paul) George,” Lee said.</p><p>“I thought that he was locked in. He wanted to close the gap, he wanted to make it tough. I thought there was a play early in the first half where he’s trying to pick him up full court and make sure he sees a body. Offensively, just trying to make the right plays when they needed to be made,” Lee added.</p><p>“When they have two on the ball and they blitz him, he’s hitting seam passes and trusting his teammates. I just think there’s been a ton of growth from Brandon over the last couple of days now that he’s seen that he’s the focal point of another team’s defense. Without some of our other offensive weapons, he’s had to take on a different type of load, and I think he’s doing a really good job of just taking what the game gives him.”</p><p>Every team that takes on Charlotte has Miller at the top of their scouting report and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-news-why-josh-green-complete-awe-brandon-miller">he’s still finding ways to score and be effective</a> on both ends of the floor. Thankfully for the Hornets, they have another young star who is capable of picking up some of that slack without Ball. Brandon Miller has stepped up big-time both with and without his All-Star-caliber teammate.</p><p>Miller has <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/player/gamelog/_/id/4433287/brandon-miller" rel="noopener">scored at least 20 points</a> in his last seven games, including three 30-point games layered in. Josh Green gave props to his teammate for taking the No. 1 option responsibilities.</p><p>“I think he’s done a great job,” Green said. “Brandon is a super talented player. He moves so smooth and he’s able to get his shot off. He’s the type of guy who’s always smiling and ready to go, and I love playing beside him. I think he’s done a great job of being able to step up both offensively and defensively, too. He’s done an amazing job on defense.”</p><p>Embodying that two-way star role is the ideal vision for what many expect Miller to develop into, and he has the stamp of approval from one of the better defenders on the team. Miller might not be perfect, but he’s learning on the fly, while being effective in the process.</p><h2><b>Being at the top of the scouting report has its challenges</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Hornets-Brandon-Miller-shooting-vs.jpg"><figcaption>Mandatory Credit: Scott Kinser-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>With LaMelo Ball and the other Hornets offensive weapons out of the lineup for a while, Brandon Miller is the name opposing teams will circle to key in on. In the matchup with the Atlanta Hawks, Miller gained the attention of Dyson Daniels and Jalen Johnson, two jumbo wings to shadow him on the perimeter. This strategy has worked to some degree, but Miller is still getting his fair share of points in the process.</p><p>On the flip side, these points haven’t come cheap. In three of his last four games, Miller shot under 35% from the field. The youngster has been forced to make more difficult decisions with the ball in his hands due to the bevy of injuries, which includes taking more tough shots. He’s shooting 40% from the field for the season, which could use quite a bit of improvement.</p><h2><b>How Brandon Miller can find easier shots</b></h2><p>Things won’t get any easier for Brandon Miller. Defenses would rather force Miller into tougher looks or allow his Hornets teammates to score. With Ball in the lineup, Miller plays primarily off the ball, coming off pindowns, elevator screens, and other off-ball sets. It’ll be hard to get the defense to commit to other ball handlers, but they’re going to have to try and get creative to relieve the pressure off Miller.</p><p>That would require guys like Seth Curry and Vasilije Micic to get more involved and find success in pick-and-roll situations, along with guys like Josh Green and Cody Martin to become cutters and corner three-point shooters. It’s a barebones group with the injuries, but some of these little things can help Miller find easier ways to score and be effective.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Miller was so locked in he didn’t even realize he set a new bar for his scoring prowess.</p><p>“I honestly didn’t know tonight was my career high,” Miller said. “I was just playing basketball and going out there looking to win a ball game in front of a great home crowd tonight.”</p><p>He also added that his Hornets teammates encouraged him every step of the way, especially after Ball fouled out.</p><p>“I think just my teammates encouraging me to be more aggressive. LaMelo (Ball) fouled out at the end, and I think it was just an opportunity to be more aggressive. I think as a competitor and as a winning teammate, we want to do everything to go out there for 48 minutes and win the ball game.”</p><h2><b>LaMelo Ball speaks on Miller’s big game</b></h2><p>Ball couldn’t finish the game, unfortunately, but he knew that the win was sealed with how his teammate was rolling.</p><p>“Brandon definitely stepped up and I feel like that’s why we got the win. He stepped up big in overtime, so great play [from Brandon].”</p><p>As fun as it was to see Miller’s performance, Ball knows that if he plays like this, more wins will follow.</p><p>“We need those type of performances,” Ball continued. “Like I said, every win matters. So just him stepping up to the plate and doing what we needed was big.”</p><h2><b>Hornets coach reflects on the win and his two star players</b></h2><p>Getting back in the win column and keeping up with the rest of the Eastern Conference seeding-wise is important early on in the season. When you can get your two young stars to combine for 73 points to seal up a win, any coach will take that. Hornets head coach Charles Lee highlighted those guys, but also other key moments in the game.</p><p>“I’m proud of the group. I love how we stuck with it. We did a lot of really good things to build a lead at both ends of the court. I thought ‘Melo (Ball) played great offensively, and even his defensive pressure was really good… I thought Brandon (Miller) stepped up and made a lot of great offensive plays. Cody Martin’s block on (Jaden) Ivey towards the end of the game, Moussa (Diabate) getting his first start and rebounding like a monster. It was a great team win. Even Taj Gibson coming up with the ball at the end of the game – every possession mattered, every hustle play, every competitive effort was really good by the team, so I’m proud of them for sticking with it.”</p><p>The Hornets are sitting at the nine seed with a 6-9 record, tied with three other teams. On Thursday night, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-news-charles-lee-reveals-why-he-benched-lamelo-ball-crunch-time">LaMelo Ball managed to bounce back</a> after he was benched in their previous game, while Brandon Miller took it upon himself to will the Hornets to a 123-121 overtime win over the Detroit Pistons.</p><p>Ball scored 35 points of his own in a major redemption game, while Miller managed to one-up his backcourt mate with 38 points of his own. And in so doing, the Hornets duo is cementing themselves as one of the best young tandems, not just at the moment but throughout NBA history as well.</p><p>According to StatMamba on X (formerly known as Twitter), Ball and Miller <a href="https://x.com/StatMamba/status/1859792768991887493" rel="noopener">became the fifth youngest duo</a> in NBA history to score at least 35 points each in a single game — with the former being just 23 years of age despite being in his fifth NBA season, while the latter is just 22 years old.</p><p>The Hornets’ future is bright, and it will be up to Ball and Miller to keep the team buzzing from here on out. But Brandon Miller simply said that he will not end tonight on the losing side of the proceedings. However, Charlotte showed great promise with their thrilling 108-107 win over the Detroit Pistons. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-news-brandon-miller-buzzer-beater-pistons">Brandon Miller sent the Pistons packing</a> with an impressive buzzer-beater layup, but he also had help from LaMelo Ball. Miller gave some interesting thoughts on his partnership with Ball the day after the victory.</p><p>Miller <a href="https://x.com/espnnba/status/1854631657594134893?s=46" rel="noopener">spoke about the comfort</a> he has when he is around Ball with Malika Andrews on a segment of NBA Today:</p><p>“I look at him like a brother away from home. So it’s all comfortable bonds around here,” Miller told Andrews when reflecting on celebrating with Ball after his game-winning shot against the Pistons.</p><p>Brandon Miller and LaMelo Ball are two of the Hornets’ most impactful players, and if they continue to progress the way they have been, the sky is the limit.</p><p>Through his first four games, Miller averages 12.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.0 assists. He missed a few games due to a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-news-brandon-miller-concerning-hip-injury-update-vs-rockets">hip injury he suffered in the Hornets’ season-opener</a> against the Houston Rockets. The second-year forward should continue to gain more rhythm as the season progresses.</p><p>Meanwhile, Ball is showing why is considered one of the most talented point guards in the NBA. Through eight games, he has averaged a career-high 28.1 points along with 6.0 assists, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.5 steals on a 39.4 percent three-point shooting clip.</p><p>Ball and Miller’s effort against the Pistons helped the team improve to 3-5. The Hornets look to keep improving a get above the .500 mark. Charlotte will take on another challenging matchup at home against the partial reigning Eastern Conference Semifinal champion Indiana Pacers on Friday.</p><p>At the rate they are going, Charlotte might be able to crack the top eight of the Eastern Conference standings and make the playoffs by the end of the 2024-25 season. When that’s the type of guy and the type of mentality and mindset, he’s going to really help this organization continue to build sustainable success. I had a short-term memory – not remembering the last play and just move on until the clock hits all zeroes. I think that’s what Coach Lee preached to us going into the timeout.”</p><p>As big of a shot as it was, Miller is happy with the win more than anything.</p><p>“I was just happy that we won. I think it’s a great start for us with this record that we have, and I think it’s going to be even better just building off of this win and just continuing to win.”</p><h2><b>It was a much-needed win for Brandon Miller, Hornets</b></h2><p>After losing three straight games, the Hornets needed to shake off the funk and get back in the win column to keep up with the rest of the pack in the Eastern Conference. They’re one of four teams with three wins. Both Brandon Miller and Charles Lee mentioned that they’re glad they got the win since every one of them counts.</p><p>Coach Lee believes that a young team could feed off of that more than anything right now.</p><p>“I think every win is important for a young team, for a first-year coach. We’re trying to establish some things here, so any type of win, any type of momentum that you can continue to build is great. The thing that we’re going to continue to focus on is our process on every possession. We’re going to come in tomorrow and still want to watch some film and continue to learn and just keep getting better – not relax, not be satisfied.
