Fast forward a few years, and he looks to emerge as a star for <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ncaa-basketball/exclusive-fau-coach-john-jakus-unfortunate-anomaly-needs-fixing-year-2">John Jakus and the Florida Atlantic Owls</a>.</p><p>Elohim is gearing up for the second year of his collegiate career, his first with the Owls. He previously represented the USC Trojans in the 2024-25 season, mainly appearing in some games off the bench.</p><p>Joining FAU this past offseason, Elohim looks forward to making noise this upcoming campaign while creating solid chemistry with his new teammates and coaches.</p><p>“I feel very confident in us. I think we’re very versatile; I think we have a lot of depth in every position. You know, I think we can switch lineups, even like we can do a lot with our squad, but I’m most definitely confident in us,” Elohim said during an exclusive interview with ClutchPoints.</p><h2><b>How Isaiah Elohim played at high school, USC</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Bronny-James-ex-high-school-teammate-sounds-off-on-transfer-from-USC-to-FAU-1.jpg"><figcaption>Jay Calderon/The Desert Sun / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Isaiah Elohim came out of Sierra Canyon High School when he joined the USC Trojans for his freshman year.</p><p>It was there that he had the chance of playing alongside Bronny James, the son of NBA superstar LeBron James. He averaged 12.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game as a senior, standing out as one of the top prospects in the 2024 class.</p><p>Elohim <a href="https://247sports.com/Player/Isaiah-Elohim-46109438/" rel="noopener">boasted a four-star ranking with a 93 score</a> on 247Sports. He stood out as the ninth-best player from the state of California, the 15th-best small forward, and the 69th-best player in the entire class.</p><p>“I definitely think, like, iron sharpens iron. Competing against them just helped me sharpen my tools a little bit and just let me know what I needed to work on to be better. But it’s always been fun. And there’s that competitiveness that always drives you to do your best,” he said.</p><p>Elohim played sparingly throughout his freshman year with the Trojans, only being on the court for 5.8 minutes per contest. Throughout 18 appearances that included one start, he averaged 2.1 points per game on 59.1% shooting from the field. His best performance was against No. 7 Purdue on Feb. 7, scoring 11 points on 100% shooting throughout 15 minutes of action.</p><p>The Trojans went 17-18 that season, going 7-13 in their Big Ten matchups. They obtained an invitation to the first-ever College Basketball Crown tournament in April, where their time came to an end after losing to the Villanova Wildcats in the quarterfinals. Elohim didn’t take part in it as he entered the portal on March 24, seeking a change of scenery.</p><p>Elohim <a href="https://x.com/KayserHoops/status/1905063701666750530" rel="noopener">had plenty of interest from multiple schools</a>, per reporter Sam Keyser. This included the likes of Baylor, Missouri, Florida State, and Arizona State, among others. However, the belief that FAU head coach John Jakus and the coaching staff had in the young player convinced him to take his talents to Boca Raton.</p><p>“It really stood out when I was in the transfer portal, when I was obviously looking for a new home. They’re playing for me, and everything sounded just really good. And I felt comfortable as soon as they said some of the things they said,” he said.</p><h2><b>What Isaiah Elohim is looking forward to at FAU</b></h2><p>It was a big decision for Isaiah Elohim to transfer to FAU. He had to move from a familiar setting in California to a new environment in Florida, emphasizing the need for him to adapt.</p><p>Luckily for the sophomore guard, it was easy for Elohim to get comfortable in Boca Raton. It represented the surroundings he prefers to play in, enjoying what the city has to offer him. Not having to worry about his surroundings, Elohim can completely focus on his game. He intends to break out as a star for the Owls this season, showing how much he’s grown this summer.</p><p>“I think you guys are going to see how much I’ve developed as a scorer, as a creator, as a defender, just as everything. I feel like this is the most that I’ve developed in a really long time, and I just feel very confident in my game to help us win,” Elohim told ClutchPoints.</p><p>Jakus has an optimistic outlook on Elohim’s ceiling with the Owls. He’s aware of the past injuries that held the young guard back at times, but believes he can shine in the team’s rotation this season.</p><p>“The better version, the healthy version of Isaiah, is what we were looking for. And these last two weeks, he has been every bit of that, and we’re really thankful for his growth. He’s friends with (assistant coach) Isaiah Austin and his family, so when he was looking for a restart, we were happy to do it,” Jakus <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wo9m0DdPgs0&amp;t=6s" rel="noopener">said during the team’s media day</a> on Oct. 8.</p><p>“The same thing that (former FAU forward) Kaleb [Glenn] did last year, with leaving Louisville after having been a former top-ranked player. We believe Isaiah will do the same thing. Sometimes you make the wrong choice as a freshman, but then you make the right one, and you find a home. He’s going to be an elite scorer and a really good player.”</p><p>FAU will begin its season at home. They host their second-ever Power Five matchup, taking on the Boston College Eagles on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. ET. Tuesday’s matchup marks the first time the American sports icon has missed his squad’s season opener.</p><p>Bronny James also did not play against the Warriors, though his inactivity was for a different reason. Lakers head coach JJ Redick opted to keep the second-year guard on the bench, which adds fuel to the narrative that the former USC talent is not ready to log meaningful minutes in the NBA. There are plenty of people who do not believe he will ever reach that level, but James prides himself on his commitment to his craft. Golden State won the first one, 111-103, while Los Angeles exacted revenge, 126-116, on Sunday.</p><p>Before their latest battle, the Lakers held their familiar “Guard vs. Bigs” challenge during practice on Monday. The game is simple: The guards need to score, while the bigs have to make stops.</p><p>Bronny James was part of the guards, which also included Austin Reaves, Gabe Vincent, Marcus Smart, Jake LaRavia, and Dalton Knecht. However, the Warriors had a dominant 40-25 display in the third quarter. Even as the Lakers responded with a 23-9 showing in the fourth quarter, it wasn’t enough to erase the deficit.</p><p>Ball movement and shot selection made the difference in this matchup. The Warriors prevailed with shooting splits of 46.4% from the field, including 39.5% from downtown, while creating 35 assists. It wasn’t the same for the Lakers, having splits of 41.7% and 35.3% while dishing out 25 assists.</p><p>Four players scored in double-digits on Los Angeles’ behalf. Gabe Vincent led the way with 16 points and five assists. He shot 4-of-9 from the field, including 3-of-7 from beyond the arc, and 5-of-5 from the free-throw line. Dalton Knecht came next with 12 points and six rebounds, RJ Davis had 11 points, while Jake LaRavia provided 10 points and three assists.</p><p>The Lakers will prepare for their next preseason matchup, rematching against the Warriors. The Lakers predictably struggled on offense, with Austin Reaves doing much of the heavy lifting but not getting much help from his teammates.</p><p>One of those teammates who struggled was second-year guard Bronny James, son of LeBron, who had some moments during Summer League this year as he vies for a spot in JJ Redick’s rotation.</p><p>One person <a href="https://www.hoopshype.com/story/sports/nba/rumors/2025/10/05/kwame-brown-on-bronny-james-this-aint-year-one/86534228007/" rel="noopener">who isn’t impressed</a> with what he’s seen from James thus far is former Lakers big man Kwame Brown, who took to his Kwame Brown Bust Life YouTube channel to relay his thoughts.</p><p>“This ain’t year one. This is year two. This is year two. This don’t make no sense. We got high school players better than Bronny. Absolutely got high school players better than Bronny,” said Brown. “Bronny was never the best high school player on his team. He was never the best college player on his team. And he still gets 12 shots in a preseason game where everybody’s auditioning where nobody normally passes the ball.”</p><p>Brown even went so far as to send a demotivational message to his listeners.</p><p>“And for every young man that thinks that you can just be the president or you can get in the league and you gonna get a fair shake at it. I think LeBron James situation just proved. As a team, Los Angeles shot 31.1% from the field and 17.1% from 3-point range in a 103-81 loss to the Phoenix Suns. Bronny James, in particular, shot <a href="https://x.com/mcten/status/1974350045052088344" rel="noopener">1-of-12 from the field and 1-of-8 from behind the arc</a>.</p><p>“I felt like they were pretty good shots there,” James said after the game, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. “I didn’t rush, I wasn’t forcing anything. I didn’t have my legs under me as much as I wanted to, so a lot of them were short. But most of them were on line and I felt like I could’ve made them, so I think I took some good shots.”</p><p>The season debut mirrored James’s preseason performances from a season ago. In his first four preseason games, he shot 2-of-16 from the field, scoring just four points. The target was placed on his back simply because of who his father is, and it only grew when the Lakers selected him with the No. 55 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.</p><p>From the moment he was drafted, Bronny James endured endless scrutiny and a cacophony of voices questioning whether or not the Lakers should have drafted him and if he even belonged in the NBA. After he got off to a slow start to the 2025-26 season even in the G League, the voices only grew louder.</p><p>But as the season progressed and James continued to get development reps in the G League, he gradually looked more and <a href="https://x.com/nbagleague/status/1904388501786759361" rel="noopener">more comfortable on the court</a>. That culminated <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/los-angeles-lakers/lakers-news-bronny-james-reacts-career-high-scoring-night">with a career-high performance in late March</a> against a fully healthy Milwaukee Bucks team.</p><p>Despite all the flak that James faced, he believes it actually helped him power through his rookie season and ultimately help with his development.</p><p>“I think it’s great for me and my mind to just push through the criticism and everything that was thrown my way,” James said at Media Day. “Just to see the growth and skill develop as a player while being scrutinized and stuff like that, I think it’s just good for my head. It’s allowed me to keep going and pushing through.”</p><p>In the game against the Bucks, James came off the bench and dropped 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and 2-of-4 shooting from the three-point line in a little over 29 minutes. He also added three rebounds, five assists and one blocked shot.</p><p>During his time in the G League, James appeared in a total of 18 games with South Bay at a little over 31 minutes per game. He averaged 18.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.7 steals with splits of 41.9 percent shooting from the field, 33.6 percent shooting from the three-point line and 76.9 percent shooting from the free-throw line.</p><p>James appeared much more comfortable in his second summer league appearance as well. While there has not yet been a final decision as to what his role might look like this year, James did say that he had conversations with Lakers head coach JJ Redick as to what it might entail.</p><p>“There’s still the guys that are playing ahead of me right now, so I’m just ready to take advantage of any opportunity that he gives me,” James said. “Whether that role is staying in the same place, I’m just ready to go out there and play and provide for them and produce for my team.”</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

In order to announce the news, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/los-angeles-lakers/lakers-news-fans-have-same-question-rachel-nichols-luka-doncic-post">Lakers held a press conference</a>, which was attended by several members of the team.</p><p>Two key players not in attendance were father-and-son duo LeBron and Bronny James.</p><p>While Marc Stein reported that LeBron facetimed Doncic to congratulate him on the new contract, sports media giant Dan Patrick was <a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1952420926416433508" rel="noopener">not so forgiving</a> of Bronny’s absence.</p><p>“If he wants to stay longer after LeBron James leaves… Bronny James should’ve been there. You’re the last guy on the roster; you should be there,” said Patrick, via the Dan Patrick Show.</p><p>It’s unclear at this point what Bronny James was doing during the press conference, but whatever it was probably won’t be a good enough explanation to satisfy Dan Patrick.</p><p>Austin Reaves was also noticeably absent from the press conference, but he has been overseas in Asia over the last couple of weeks.</p><h2><b>A big commitment from the Lakers</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Lakers-guard-Luka-Doncic_ca4698.jpg"><figcaption>Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Just days before his new contract was announced, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/lakers-news-luka-doncic-3-word-message-new-york-visit-goes-viral">new pictures of Doncic</a> were unearthed by Men’s Health Magazine that showed the perennial MVP candidate in his slimmest form since his rookie year, which could be huge news for the Lakers moving forward.</p><p>Conditioning and weight concerns have always been Doncic’s Achilles heel and were the main reasoning that the Dallas Mavericks gave as their rationale for shockingly trading him last February.</p><p>While Doncic did perform well for the most part during his Lakers tenure, he didn’t exactly shut down the notion that his conditioning could use improvement during Los Angeles’ first-round playoff exit vs. the Minnesota Timberwolves.</p><p>Now that he is in slimmer form, Lakers fans are hoping that this also means there’s been an uptick in Doncic’s conditioning and stamina, so he’s able to close out games just as strongly as he starts them.</p><p>If that’s the case, Doncic’s three-year, $165 million contract extension could end up looking like a bargain at some point down the line.</p><p>In any case, the Lakers’ schedule will be released later this month.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
