The 29-year-old was waived by the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/timberwolves-news-rudy-gobert-stands-on-47-year-mountaintop-after-perfect-shooting-night-vs-mavs" rel="noopener">Minnesota Timberwolves</a> shortly after the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/grading-the-lakers-jazz-timberwolves-russell-westbrook-dangelo-russell-trade" rel="noopener">NBA trade deadline</a>, and he has yet to find a new team after hitting free agency. His odds of securing a new deal have now decreased significantly after Forbes was allegedly arrested on a family violence charge.</p><p>According to TMZ Sports, Forbes was <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2023/02/15/nba-bryn-forbes-arrested-after-allegedly-striking-woman-several-times/" rel="noopener">arrested on Wednesday</a> morning in San Antonio, Texas. The 6-foot-2 shooting guard allegedly hit an unidentified woman “several times” after a night out. It seems that the pair were out for Valentine’s Day, but it turned ugly after a heated argument became physical. Apparently, Forbes became upset with his companion while they were out, and they started arguing during their driving home.</p><p>The former Timberwolves shooting guard allegedly hit the woman multiple times during an incident that occurred at around 5 AM. Emergency medical services reportedly had to provide medical attention to the woman when they arrived on the scene.</p><p>Bryn Forbes was reportedly arrested and booked by the San Antonio Police Department on a family violence charge. TMZ also reports that he remains in custody as of Wednesday afternoon, per jail records.</p><p>Forbes, a one-time NBA champion, played 25 games for the Timberwolves this season. He averaged <a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/f/forbebr01.html#all_per_game-playoffs_per_game" rel="noopener">3.6 points</a> in 10.7 minutes per game. The former Michigan State standout has also had previous stints with the San Antonio Spurs, the Milwaukee Bucks, and the Denver Nuggets. He’s one of the best 3-point shooters that the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/spurs-news-gregg-popovich-refuses-questions-makes-stern-statement-after-blowout-vs-nuggets/">game</a> has and he showed that last season with the Milwaukee Bucks. He was perfect with their stars Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, and Jrue Holiday. He played so well against the Miami Heat that he even outscored the Heat star, Jimmy Butler.</p><p>It would be assumed that most teams who would bring Forbes in would do it exactly like how Milwaukee did a season ago. He isn’t a great defender and there are times where he simply can’t be on the court. We saw this last year when the Bucks decided not to play him for the last three series of the playoffs because there were just too many guys out there that were going to target him on the defensive side of the ball. Milwaukee also runs interesting defensive schemes so other teams could be intrigued because they can always attempt to hide him in a corner on the defensive side of the ball. He has shown that he can hit a three-point shot at a 42-45% rate and be a big spark coming off the bench or even in a starting role if necessary.</p><p>Forbes is the perfect guy in today’s NBA game because teams shoot 3-point shots more than ever before. He can be a great addition to many contending teams so let’s take a look at three teams who could benefit from adding Bryn Forbes.</p><h2>Brynn Forbes NBA Trade Deadline</h2><p><b>3. Los Angeles Lakers</b></p><p>Putting Bryn Forbes next to Antetokounmpo a season ago made him play the best that he has in his entire career. Giannis is a guy who makes his teammates better just like the Lakers star LeBron James. Both of these guys are the best in the world at getting their teammates’ open looks and that’s exactly why Forbes would be perfect for the Lakers.</p><p>When LeBron James goes to the basket, the entire defense has to crash because if they don’t, it’s a free two points. This leads to players around him being open and we all know that LeBron can always find an open man and once he does and they can hit a shot, the Lakers are going to be very tough to beat. Regardless of whether they have struggled this season or not, a team of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook, and others, are eventually going to figure it out. There have been clear needs for a three-point shooter and Forbes would be exactly what Los Angeles needs.</p><p>He has proven throughout his career that he can hit an open shot better than almost anybody in the NBA. Putting him next to guys like Russell Westbrook and LeBron would be perfect for the Lakers.</p><p><b>2. Boston Celtics</b></p><p>It is tough to tell exactly what the Boston Celtics need, but their three-point shooting is definitely something that they need to work on. They’re only shooting 33.2% this season, which is in the bottom half of the entire NBA.</p><p>The trade deadline could be interesting for Boston because they could decide to move on from some of their big names like Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart. If they decide to keep both of these guys, they are still a tough team to beat come playoff time. Either Brown or Jayson Tatum can explode at any moment on the court for 50 plus points and carry a team to a win.</p><p>With how bad Boston has been from behind the 3-point line, it would make sense that they go out and get a guy like Bryn Forbes. Jayson Tatum is another guy who’s going to create open opportunities for his teammates and that’s exactly what Forbes could help with because he’s going to hit those shots.</p><p><b>1. Dallas Mavericks</b></p><p>The Dallas Mavericks have been a strange team this year but that was to be expected. They didn’t go out and make any offseason moves last season besides bringing in a new head coach in Jason Kidd. They are in the bottom five of three-point shooting on the season at 32.5% and if they want to have any success in the playoffs, that needs to be better.</p><p>Playing alongside Luka Doncic is going to lead to open shots and that’s where Bryn Forbes is his best. His role certainly grew every year averaging 7.9 minutes to averaging 25.1 on his final year with the team.</p><p>Forbes made his name in the NBA as a prolific 3-point shooter. He converted 41.2% of his shots behind the arc in his whole career.</p><p>He eventually left the Spurs organization for the Milwaukee Bucks in 2020 as he was ready to take on a challenge and go to a team that was able to contend for the NBA title.</p><p>In his lone season with the Bucks, his hot shooting was always a massive boost for the Bucks’ bench, scoring at the right moment and the right time when they needed it the most.</p><p>The marksman’s most notable moment with the Bucks was when he helped crush the Miami Heat in a 4-0 sweep. Despite posting the fourth-highest 3-point shooting percentage across the league, his defensive struggles and lack of playmaking could deter some teams from giving the 28-year-old guard a multiyear contract. The Bucks are unlikely to retain the guard. The cap-strapped Bucks can only offer a <a href="https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2021/07/bucks-bryn-forbes-opting-out-of-contract.html">20% raise on his previous salary</a> (because they only have his Non-Bird rights), unless they offer part of the mid-level exception, which is highly doubtful.</p><p>With a return to Milwaukee likely off the table, let’s look at three teams that could ink Bryn Forbes in free agency.</p><h2><b>3. Memphis Grizzlies</b></h2><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sports/nba/memphis-grizzlies">Memphis Grizzlies</a> must find 3-point shooting help. They ranked 25th in the league with 11 3-pointers made per 100 possessions. Overall, they finished 20th in <a href="https://www.teamrankings.com/nba/stat/three-point-pct">3-point percentage</a> in 2020-21. And while they acquired Eric Bledsoe in a trade with the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sports/nba/new-orleans-pelicans">New Orleans Pelicans</a>, the guard is reportedly expected to be <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/grading-the-pelicans-grizzlies-blockbuster-trade-ahead-of-2021-nba-draft/">traded elsewhere</a> this offseason.</p><p>Looking for a backup guard in free agency, the shooting-needy Grizzlies could sign Bryn Forbes. The Grizzlies lack volume shooters from 3-point territory, something Forbes could certainly aid. 64.5 percent of his field goal attempts were from 3-point land this past season. Forbes would prove worthy as a catch-and-shoot option for Ja Morant to pass to when attacking the basket.</p><h2><b>2. New York Knicks</b></h2><p>The New York Knicks have <a href="https://www.spotrac.com/nba/cap/2021/" rel="noopener">ample cap space </a>to sign multiple free agents. After finishing with the eighth-worst offense across the NBA, the Knicks should target offensive-minded players. Bryn Forbes could be a great piece off the bench for New York, which finished 23rd in true shooting percentage.</p><p>Forbes produced his best true shooting percentage (63.1) of his career with the Bucks in 2020-21. He would prove valuable to the Knicks, who ranked 21st in the NBA with 11.7 triples made per contest.</p><h2><b>1. New Orleans Pelicans</b></h2><p>One of the reasons the Pelicans sent away Steven Adams in the aforementioned trade was to open up floor space. The sharpshooter helped the Bucks in crushing the Miami Heat in a first-round sweep. Forbes started the playoffs with a bang, as he <a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/f/forbebr01/gamelog/2021">averaged</a> 15 points on .525/.485/.667 shooting splits in the sweep.</p><p>His hot shooting was a massive boost for the Bucks’ bench, scoring at the right moment and the right time when they needed it the most. The guard helped blow the game wide open as Miami could not crawl back from the hole that Forbes helped dig.
