NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has made it a point of emphasis in recent years for players to try and cut down on any in-game celebrations simulating the use of a firearm.</p><p>This incident between Morant and Hield happened with 20.1 seconds remaining in the game on Tuesday night in Memphis.</p><p>As Morant walked towards the opposite end of the court and the Grizzlies’ bench, he simulated pointing a gun at Hield and the Warriors’ bench with his left arm fully extended. That indefinite suspension from the league and team lasted eight games. The superstar guard was then <a href="https://www.nba.com/news/ja-morant-speaks-on-suspension-ahead-of-return-2023" rel="noopener">suspended for the first 25 games</a> of the 2023-24 season for conduct detrimental to the league after again flashing a gun on a livestream video in May 2023.</p><p>Upon returning from this 25-game suspension, Morant played just nine games before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury that required surgery.</p><p>Morant has played 46 games this season, averaging 22.7 points, 7.4 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game while shooting 45.4 percent from the floor. Well, you've come to the right place.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Golden State Warriors</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>When the Golden State Warriors <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-jimmy-butler-drops-homeless-revelation-first-chase-center-win">traded a package headlined by Andrew Wiggins for Jimmy Butler</a>, it sent shockwaves through the NBA World.</p><p>Both conferences were impacted by the move, with the Warriors getting better and the Heat getting not necessarily worse, but more interestingly, the fans in San Francisco had to say goodbye to one of their NBA Champions, with Wiggins playing a key role in bringing another title back to the Bay when their window looked close to closed.</p><p>Discussing what he experienced around the move in an interview with 95.7 The Game’s “Steiny &amp; Guru,” Buddy Hield noted it was hard to see Wiggins go, going so far as to suggest <a href="https://www.nbcsportsbayarea.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/andrew-wiggins-jimmy-butler-trade-buddy-hield/1834517/" rel="noopener">he wishes he was the one traded instead</a>.</p><p>“When guys were traded, it was a rough day for [Warriors coach Steve Kerr],” Hield noted via NBC Sports Bay Area. “Especially with Wiggs, it was emotional in that locker room. I was even more emotional because I wish it was me that got traded because Wiggs did so much for this franchise. For a guy like that, I hated to see him go like that because he’s done so much for this franchise.</p><p>“And I said, ‘Man, I wish that was me,’ because he’s put his mark on this franchise, and I know how much he meant to this franchise and the city of San Fran.”</p><p>Now granted, the reason Hield wanted to be traded instead of Wiggins might just be because landing in <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/warriors-news-jimmy-butler-trolls-buddy-hield-first-dubs-triple-double">Golden State hasn’t entirely worked out for the 3-point specialist</a>, with the Warriors only playing him for an average of 23.3 minutes per game. While Hield has still <a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/hieldbu01.html" rel="noopener">averaged double-digit points per game</a> on the season, he’s almost four points below his career average and is shooting just 36.7 percent from 3 on the season, which is also below his career average on nearly seven attempts per game.</p><p>Would Hield be a better fit in Miami? Frankly, it’s hard to say, as, with the NBA moving away from pure 3-point shooters, it’s unclear what a one-way player like Hield will do moving forward. But it certainly would have been another opportunity, which has been a regular thing for Hield throughout his NBA career as he looks for the “right” long-term fit.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

A team once flirting with the 10th seed of the play-in tournament, Butler and the Warriors have surged to sixth in the West and only three games behind the Houston Rockets, winning nine of their last 10 games. </p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-draymond-green-doubles-down-championship-guarantee">Draymond Green’s already promised twice that the Warriors are going to win the NBA Championship this season</a>, but that sentiment and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/warriors-news-stephen-curry-drops-bars-on-jimmy-butler-impact">confidence Jimmy Butler has injected into the Warriors</a> has begun to spread to the rest of the Golden State locker room.</p><p>After the 130-120 win over the Portland Trail Blazers, <a href="https://x.com/knbr/status/1899330612861010039?s=46" rel="noopener">Buddy Hield revealed how Butler’s reinvigorated the guys in the locker room</a>.</p><p>“No disrespect to everybody who’s been here [Wiggs, Kyle, Melton, Lindy, Schröder], I feel like we had it clicking earlier [during the 12-3 start]. But after that, it woke the league up again. We just hit a wall,” Hield said. “We couldn’t get back into that flow. Jimmy came here and sold us back in, putting in that championship/winning mindset he’s always known for… he just settles us down. He does a lot of things for us and you can see why he’s here. You see that spark on both ends.”</p><p>Though Butler’s scoring has been down with the Warriors for his standards, he’s <a href="https://x.com/957thegame/status/1899335142973530397/video/1" rel="noopener">“another guy who demands a lot of attention,”</a> as Gary Payton II puts it.  Since the Jimmy Butler trade, Curry has looked close to peak MVP form. He’s averaging 29.9 ppg, 6.1 apg, and 4.1 rpg on 68.9 TS%. The Warriors are 12-2 in that stretch. </p><p>But Buddy Hield’s not the only Warriors role-player raving about Butler. Moses Moody, who’s been on a heater of his own since the trade deadline, talked about being around a player of Butler’s caliber.</p><p>“He affects winning and winning effects everything else. When we’re playing good, it’s a lot easier to be cool off the court,” <a href="https://x.com/957thegame/status/1899336975468958113/video/1">Moody said</a>. “He is who he is, he has a big presence, he’s authentic to himself… he definitely has a presence in the locker room. He is a real dude, real dudes are contagious. That’s a cool thing to be around all the time.” </p><p>Top to bottom, Butler’s improving the play of his new teammates, which will need to continue in a crowded Western Conference playoff race. Golden State is sitting snug in sixth but the Rockets, Timberwolves, Clippers, and Kings are all working on win streaks of their own. </p><p>Buddy Hield understands the assignment:</p><p>“Guys like me, [Podziemski, Moody, Santos, and Looney] we go to come and do our job at a high level and make the right read, the right defensive play, or the right shot and trust [Curry, Butler, and Green] to take us to the promised land.”</p><p>The Warriors are back in action on Thursday against the Sacramento Kings as they look to extend their five-game winning streak.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Morrow became teammates with Curry during the latter’s rookie season, when the former was coming off a season that saw him shoot 46.7% from downtown to lead the NBA.</p><p>However, around this time, the Warriors were just beginning to build the foundation of their dynasty. Curry and Morrow would play 67 games together, posting a 23-44 record overall.</p><h2><b>2. Golden State Warriors shooting guard Buddy Hield took part in the 3-Point Contest at NBA All-Star Weekend on Saturday evening and although he didn’t end up winning the event, Hield tied teammate Stephen Curry for the <a href="https://x.com/BrettSiegelNBA/status/1890949188583600512" rel="noopener">most points in a single round</a> with 31, per Brett Siegel:</p><p>“Buddy Hield just got 31 points in the opening round of the three-point contest, tied for the most in any round by any player with Stephen Curry (2021).”</p><p>Hield came out red-hot in the opening round but alongside Darius Garland, ended up losing to Miami Heat star Tyler Herro. Regardless, Hield put himself in impressive company with Steph, who is undoubtedly the best shooter to ever live. He’s probably learned a thing or two playing with Curry this season, too.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-complete-buddy-hield-sign-and-trade-with-76ers">The Bahamas native joined the Warriors last offseason in a six-team trade</a> and he’s been a nice addition. The ex-Oklahoma Sooner is averaging 11.5 points on 36% shooting from downtown. Golden State needed another piece that can make it rain from long range after losing Klay Thompson and although Hield isn’t Klay, he’s done a respectable job filling his place.</p><p>The second half of the campaign will be important for the Warriors. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-stephen-currys-take-jimmy-butler-impact">Swinging a trade for Jimmy Butler has already paid dividends</a>, with the early glimpses of the Steph-Jimmy duo showing promise. Golden State sits in 10th place at the moment but just 3.5 games out of sixth place for the final Western Conference playoff spot, so not all is lost quite yet.</p><p>The Dubs won three of their last four heading into the ASG break and hopefully, they can make a run at the postseason. Hield shooting the rock well and Butler doing his thing will be key. Golden State had been in a bit of a rough patch, compounded by a brief injury absence for Stephen Curry, but Sunday’s inspiring win over a team that has owned them over the last couple of seasons should generate some confidence for the squad moving forward.</p><p>A big reason why the Warriors were able to rally to defeat Minnesota was a late corner three pointer from Buddy Hield, who has been a huge part of Golden State’s success so far this season.</p><p>Recently, Curry broke down <a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1866557062987255875" rel="noopener">what he’s seen</a> from Hield as a member of the Warriors.</p><p>“He loves the game… He probably puts more hours in the gym than I think I’ve ever seen anybody… He’ll bring joy to the locker room, to the plane. Hield is averaging 14.5 points on 43% shooting from three-point land.</p><p>Following a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday where he dropped 27 points, Hield revealed how the Warriors have<a href="https://twitter.com/ClutchPoints/status/1866230209675931929" rel="noopener"> helped him find “his love for basketball”</a> again.</p><p>Via ClutchPoints:</p><p>“Last year I didn’t have that love [for basketball]… We wanted to find a team that I can feel appreciated and loved, you know Steph and Steve reaching out to me in free agency and communicating, just being here with Steve, Steph, and Draymond and everybody around here, putting their arms around me and helping me get back to my old self,” Hield said. “This team is just unselfish, they make the right play, they play the way I wanna play, on and off the court it’s a great group of guys to be around.</p><p>You know, I haven’t won yet in this league so being around these guys, you wanna learn how to win, you wanna see how they do things, being in here I’m just being a sponge, I’m keeping my eyes open to everything they do.”</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-complete-buddy-hield-sign-and-trade-with-76ers">Hield was acquired in a sign-and-trade with the Philadelphia 76ers</a> and ultimately inked a two-year, $21 million deal with the Warriors. There’s also a partially guaranteed $3 million for a third year and a player option for a fourth. Starting alongside Stephen Curry (30 points), he flourished offensively and reflected on his trying campaign in 2023-24.</p><p>Hield, the former 76ers guard, <a href="https://twitter.com/clutchpoints/status/1866230209675931929?s=46" rel="noopener">revealed</a> basketball wasn’t fun for him last season, per NBATV.</p><p>“Last year, I didn’t have that love [for basketball],” Hield said. “We wanted to find a team that I can feel appreciated and loved… They are so unselfish.”</p><p>Before the season started, Buddy says Warriors’ Curry and Kerr reached out before he ultimately agreed to a two-year, $21 million deal in the 76ers’ sign-and-trade. The list of teammates has grown during the regular season, making the move a seamless fit over the past two months.</p><p>“Steph [Curry] and Steve [Kerr] reaching out to me during free agency, communicating [on] just being here, you know — Steve and Steph, and Draymond, and everybody,” Hield said. “GP [Gary Payton II], everybody, putting his arm around me, trying to help me get to my old self.</p><p>“This team is just so unselfish. However, it might be a different story if you’re Buddy Hield for the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors had a 7-1 record in the first eight games Hield played. He averaged 21.1 points and shot over 50% from the field and three. <br><br>The last ten games have been a much different story for Hield and his team. During that stretch, he’s averaging 11.1 points, and shooting 40.2% from the field and 37.1% from three. Although the last shooting metric is above league average, a 10+ percentage drop-off is concerning. <br><br>As <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-ime-udoka-reveals-klay-thompson-reason-buddy-hield-is-balling-out-with-dubs">Hield replaced Klay Thompson</a>, questions circulated if he would match his offensive production. While Thompson was a standout defender, Hield has more of an offensive arsenal than his predecessor. On the season, he’s been the third-leading scorer, despite coming off the bench. Only Andrew Wiggins and Stephen Curry have generated more points than the sharpshooter.</p><h2><b>Buddy Hield’s struggles aren’t the sole reason the Warriors are struggling</b></h2><p>The three consecutive losses have all been close, only <a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/GSW/2025_games.html" rel="noopener">losing by 10 points or less</a>. Not to mention, Golden State has played tough teams like the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and even the Houston Rockets. They dropped from first in the conference to third. Although nearly every team is neck-and-neck with records, the three straight losses are a bad look.<br><br>In Hield’s case, his minutes have been severely reduced. After playing high 20s to low 30s in minutes, he’s been playing in the high teens, and low 20s for minutes. The reduction of minutes means less time to get into a rhythm. Most importantly, it takes away from playing alongside Curry. The Warriors coaching staff often uses Curry as a decoy for other shooters to get a quality look. In Hield’s case, he was the beneficiary of that through the first eight games. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-buddy-hield-admits-studied-stephen-curry">Hield even admitted to studying Curry’s game</a>.<br><br>This isn’t saying that Hield isn’t a good shooter or he’s only benefiting from Curry. That latter statement helps the Bahamian native but he’s a more than capable shooter in his own right. Still, one man’s struggle doesn’t define a whole team struggle. The team itself is 19th in field goal percentage. Regardless, the Warriors have more struggles than one player. In the three-game skid, they have the <a href="https://www.nba.com/stats/teams/traditional?LastNGames=3&amp;dir=D&amp;sort=FG_PCT" rel="noopener">third-worst shooting percentage</a> (40.6%). </p><p>Hield has some of the blame but not all. All teams go through rough shooting stretches, so it’s not a total surprise. While some of it is good defenses by their opponents, other times is players not making shots. However, the front office decided on a committee approach to replacing Klay Thompson. Curry could not be the only shooter on the court while <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-draymond-green-silences-golden-state-haters-who-dont-know-basketball">Draymond Green roamed the restricted area</a>. Steve Kerr has warmed up to Buddy Hield lately, and that trust led to the sharpshooter <a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1860505673110348038" rel="noopener">hitting a new career milestone</a> versus the San Antonio Spurs.</p><p>Hield hit his first three shots against the Spurs to pass Joe Johnson for 19th on the NBA’s all-time three-pointers record chart. Hield’s 1,979 beyond-the-arc buckets-and-counting, are an impressive achievement for the journeyman drafted by the New Orleans Pelicans. Dirk Nowitzki (1,982) and Jason Kidd (1988) are <a href="https://www.nba.com/stats/alltime-leaders?StatCategory=FG3M" rel="noopener">next up in the standings.</a></p><p>However, catching Curry, who has made 3,797 three-pointers and is first all-time, will be near impossible. Hield can dream of jumping into the top 15 though. He is less than 60 made three-pointers behind Eric Gordon for 16th all-time and should catch Paul Pierce (2,143) before the 2025 NBA Playoffs begin.</p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Hield-Warriors.jpg"><figcaption>Daniel Dunn-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Hield’s first 15 games with the Warriors can be considered nothing if not a resounding success. It goes beyond the 53 made three-pointers (3.5 per game) but that floor spacing is a big reason why the Warriors brought him in next to Curry. The 31-year-old is averaging 16.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game while shooting 47.3% from the field and 44.2% from three-point range.</p><p>At this rate, Jamal Crawford and Kyle Lowry could drop below Hield’s career output before the NBA Finals begin. The Warriors (12-3) have the best record in the Western Conference as it is. Having Hield hit threes at a historic rate has been a key to keeping the offense going.</p><p>Hield is on track to make another 200-210 three-pointers this season, not including the playoffs. Jason Terry (2,282) is 10th all-time in NBA treys. The Warriors will not get to celebrate that huge milestone this season, but it sure looks like the Oklahoma alum will get his name in the upper echelon of the record books eventually.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

In fairness, if Hield continues playing like he has in his first handful of games as a member of the Golden State Warriors, it will be unavoidable because <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-buddy-hield-gets-100-real-about-stephen-curry-tandem-nickname">Stephen Curry’s “Splash Buddy”</a> has already made a major splash with the Dubs.</p><p>On Saturday night, it was Buddy Hield who came off the bench and sparked a Warriors overtime win over the Houston Rockets with a 27-point, seven-rebound performance that included a history-making feat of <a href="https://x.com/OptaSTATS/status/1852874852257914998" rel="noopener">three-point shooting prolificness</a>.</p><p>“With his third three-point make tonight, Buddy Hield became the only player in NBA history to make 27 or more threes in his first six games with a team,” tweets the OptaSTATS X account.</p><p>Buddy Hield went on to make three more triples against the Rockets, bringing his season total up to 30, which is the second most in the league behind only Anthony Edwards. All this despite Hield only playing 25 minutes per game. He is shooting a scalding–hot 52 percent from three-point range.</p><p>More importantly though, what everyone should remember is that this isn’t some opening-month aberration. Buddy Hield has been shooting well since he walked into the NBA. Even though Hield never became the go-to-guy that some envisioned he could be when he came into the league out of Oklahoma, his production, consistency and durability has been undeniable.</p><p>Consider, Hield has played in more games than any other player in the 2016 NBA Draft class. Only Jaylen Brown has scored more points, and nobody has hit more three-pointers. And once Steph is reintroduced to this Warriors team that has proven, at least in the short term, they could get by without him, there’s no telling what kind of run Golden State may be able to go on.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

His potential defection in free agency loomed over the Dubs throughout 2023-24, tempting the end of an era as rookie Brandin Podziemski established himself as a franchise fixture and despite Stephen Curry and Draymond Green already being re-cemented as Golden State’s flag bearers going forward.</p><p>No matter how they fared on the floor in 2024-25 and beyond, everyone knew the Warriors’ decade-long dynasty died when Thompson agreed to terms with the Dallas Mavericks in early July. The only question left was how Steve Kerr and company would respond to life without Thompson for the first time.</p><p>Easily overlooked amid weeks of summer drama that only increased once Golden State made serious <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-warriors-wanted-trade-both-paul-george-lauri-markkanen">trade bids for Paul George and Lauri Markkanen</a> were the players coming back to San Francisco in the four-team trade that ultimately landed Thompson in Dallas.</p><p>Kyle Anderson’s playmaking prowess from the frontcourt and versatile, hyper-disruptive defense aligned well with the Dubs’ longstanding identity under Kerr. Even his staunchest proponents, though, surely didn’t quite realize the extent to which Buddy Hield would prove a hand-in-glove fit as Thompson’s replacement given just how forgettable his stint with the Philadelphia 76ers was last season.</p><p>Ahead of the shorthanded Warriors’ first matchup of a tough five-game road trip that tips off on Saturday, Houston Rockets coach Ime Udoka was asked <a href="https://x.com/anthonyvslater/status/1852838734603112618?s=46">what he’s seen</a> from Hield in the season’s early going.</p><p>“Klay Thompson all over again,” he said, per Anthony Slater of The Athletic. “That’s how they’re using him.”</p><h2><b>How Buddy Hield is picking up Klay Thompson’s long-range slack with Warriors</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Warriors-Buddy-Hield-goes-to-the-rim-against-the-Jazz.jpg"><figcaption>Rob Gray-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The numbers speak for themselves. Despite Curry missing his third straight game on Saturday with a sprained left ankle, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/how-new-look-warriors-will-keep-splashing-threes-without-klay-thompson">Golden State has lived up</a> to Kerr’s preseason edict of relying even more on the long ball this season than in years past. The Warriors are attempting 47.8% of their shots from beyond the arc, tied for fifth-most in the league and 5.3 points higher than their share during Thompson’s swan song.</p><p>Kevon Looney and Trayce Jackson-Davis are the only rotation players who don’t have a readily available green light from beyond the arc for this Golden State team. Still, Hield hasn’t just picked up the Dubs’ slack left by Thompson in terms of long-range volume, but is letting fly with the type of aggressive abandon even Curry’s forever Splash Brother never managed across his 11 injury-free seasons in the Bay.</p><p>Hield is launching a whopping <a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/t/thompkl01.html">19.1 triples per 100 possessions</a> so far, easily the highest mark of his career. Thompson, meanwhile, didn’t surpass a personal best of 15.3 three-point attempts per 100 possessions with the Warriors, set upon his long-awaited return to the court midway through 2021-22.</p><p>As underrated a marksman he’s been since entering the league in 2016, it’s still safe to say Hield won’t finish his Golden State debut shooting 50% from beyond the arc. The three-point attempts he’s hunted have largely come within flow of the Warriors’ offense, though, many even courtesy of the staple offensive actions in which Thompson thrived for nearly a decade.</p><p>How many times did we see Thompson screen for Curry on the ball during their storied tenure as teammates?</p><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><p>Think back to the hundreds of layups the mere threat of Thompson’s jumper created for the Warriors running post splits.</p><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><p>Even past-his-prime Thompson routinely drew two to the ball via dribble hand-offs, leaving him ample space to find the roll man for easy finishes.</p><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><p>This two-man dance of a dribble hand-off and re-screen became second nature for Thompson and Green many, many years ago.</p><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><p>Those gaudy three-point numbers and eerily familiar plays above be damned, it’s reductive to submit that Hield really is Thompson ” all over again.”</p><p>The former is still more of a defensive liability than the latter this season, let alone before Thompson suffered those devastating back-to-back lower-body injuries at the top of the decade. Golden State won’t be affording Hield the post-up opportunities or even amount of high ball screens Thompson got last season or before, fully understanding he’s better off exploiting advantages than creating them himself. Once Curry gets back on the court, Hield will revert back to the nightly bench role that Thompson only briefly played in 2023-24.</p><p>But the broad scope of Udoka’s point stands regardless, as does the notion that the suddenly cost-conscious Warriors are better off paying Hield approximately $28 million through 2026-27 than giving Thompson $50 million over that same timeframe.</p><p>Is he an objectively better player than Thompson at this point? Probably not. For where the Dubs find themselves amid Curry’s extended prime, though, Hield really does seem like a superior fit both on the court and in cap sheets.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
