Hield is ultimately impressed with how Draymond Green takes command to ensure the Warriors play strong defense as a group.</p><p>“He’s a Hall of Famer, stamped on defense,” said Hield. “He’s probably the greatest defender this game’s ever seen. Because the way he navigates things and quarterbacks things from the back — it’s just impressive.”</p><p>Despite winning just one Defensive Player of the Year award, Draymond Green is well-known for his abilities as a defender. He’s proven to be one of the most efficient two-way players throughout his career and has played a key role in helping the Warriors win four NBA titles during his time with the team.</p><p>Green, who is 35 years old, brings the fire, tenacity, and energy every night. Combine that with his defensive abilities, and you have one heck of a player. Hield claimed the sequel was “not as good” as its predecessor.</p><h2><b>Who is Warriors’ Buddy Hield?</b></h2><p>Hield is one of the Warriors’ backup guards. He is a former first round pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. He was picked by the New Orleans Pelicans with the sixth-overall pick.</p><p>In his first season, Hield was named NBA All-Rookie First Team. He averaged 8.6 points per game and averaged nearly three rebounds a game as well while with the Pelicans.</p><p>His first season with the Pelicans didn’t even go the distance. He was traded mid-season to the Sacramento Kings, averaging 15.1 points per game in 25 games with them. Overall, he finished his rookie season averaging 10.6 points per game.</p><p>He would spend most of the next four seasons with the Kings. Hield was traded during the 2021-22 season to the Indiana Pacers. He averaged a career-high 19.2 points per game with the Kings in 2019.</p><p>Hield was later traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. He was once again traded during the 2024 offseason, this time to the Golden State Warriors.</p><p>He played in all 82 games for the Warriors in 2024. One question remains, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-draymond-green-doubles-down-on-jonathan-kuminga-stance-entering-free-agency">Warriors’ future with Jonathan Kuminga</a>, but another player who was asked about their future is Buddy Hield.</p><p>During Golden State’s exit interviews on Thursday, Hield would have nothing but high praises for the organization, saying that he wants <a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1923127089009398107" rel="noopener">“to be around here forever,”</a> according to Anthony Slater.</p><p>“To keep it real, you understand, you see the value of spacing for this team,” Hield said. “You know, just keep it real, can’t be just Steph out there. You know, you see how they played me in the Minnesota series because he was not out there, just the value is spacing, and shooting is much needed in this league and for this team. So I want to be around here forever.”</p><p>“I mean until I’m not needed,” Hield continued. “But I know that this is a business, but I love being here man, I think that with Mike and Steve and the whole coaching staff, the training staff, I feel like I created a fair relationship with everybody and players and I loved being around there and I’m sure they love me being around here but I just understand it’s a business. After playing his year season in the league, he would continue on Thursday by talking about how this past season is the “happiest I’ve ever been in playing basketball.”</p><p>“I mean, I can say this is the most happiest I’ve ever been in playing basketball,” Hield said. “I tell the guys, man, the season went by so fast, and because there was so much fun, I had a lot of joy. You know, being around Steve’s group, you know, being around the players, just the training staff, and then they all made me feel welcome.”</p><p>“And I feel like it went by so fast, and like most seasons of teams, it feels like it was very long, you know, like when I’m getting out here, but this organization, I didn’t,” Hield continued.</p><p>This past season, Hield averaged 11.1 points while shooting 41.7 percent from the field and 37 percent from beyond the arc. He joined ClutchPoints in 2023.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Golden State Warriors</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>On Saturday evening, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-buddy-hield-nsfw-reaction-fans-real-batman-message">Golden State Warriors fell behind</a> 2-1 in their second round playoff series <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/minnesota-timberwolves/timberwolves-news-how-julius-randle-x-factor-warriors-get-handsy">vs the Minnesota Timberwolves</a> with a narrow home loss in Game 3. It was the second straight game the Warriors played without star point guard Stephen Curry, who will be out until at least Wednesday with a hamstring injury.</p><p>The Warriors did an admirable job of holding down the fort for the most part on Saturday evening but ultimately weren’t able to put the ball in the basket down the stretch, which was always going to be the major concern with Curry out of the lineup.</p><p>After the game, shooting guard Buddy Hield got 100% real on why it’s so difficult to replicate what Curry <a href="https://x.com/957thegame/status/1921417255604113431" rel="noopener">provides for the team.</a></p><p>“You’re coming in thinking you gotta come in and fill his role; you’re crazy because he does so much for this team,” said Hield, per 95.7 The Game on X, formerly Twitter. “Trust me, everybody would like to do it, but believe me, he’s touched by an angel. He’s touched by God. He’s blessed. He’s Steph Curry, man.”</p><h2><b>A rough spot for the Warriors</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Jimmy-Butler-4.jpg"><figcaption>David Gonzales-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Warriors now find themselves in essentially a must-win spot for Game 4 on Monday night, already with the knowledge that Stephen Curry will be out of the lineup once again for that contest.</p><p>Making matters worse for head coach Steve Kerr is that his team expended a lot of energy during Saturday’s Game 3, with Jimmy Butler turning in his best performance of the playoffs so far but still ultimately coming up a bit short.</p><p>It’s still possible that Curry could return in this series for Game 5, although that’s far from a guarantee, and hamstring injuries are certainly not something that you want to rush a player back from.</p><p>In any case, Game 4 of Warriors vs Timberwolves is slated for Monday evening, once again from the Chase Center in San Francisco. Of course, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/warriors-news-stephen-curry-takes-clearest-initial-step-attempted-injury-return">Warriors are still playing without Stephen Curry</a> after he suffered a hamstring injury in Game 1, and they likely need to win at least one game without him in order to get to a possible Game 6 and allow Curry to try to get back on the floor.</p><p>In Curry’s absence, Jimmy Butler has had to step into the role of the star player, while Buddy Hield is now the best perimeter shooter on the floor for the Warriors at all times. He kept the momentum rolling in Game 1 of the second round against the Wolves, racking up 24 points in a game that Curry played just 13 minutes.</p><p>However, since then, the Wolves have tightened the screws on Hield defensively. In the last two games, the former Oklahoma star scored just 15 and 14 points, respectively. If the Warriors want to make this a long series with any hope of Curry returning, Hield will need to be more productive in the next two games.</p><p>Butler didn’t have his best night in Game 2, but he exploded in Game 3 for 33 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. That meant that everybody had to step up, and that’s what they did to get a victory to start the series. Buddy Hield once again came up big and finished with 24 points, but he had a wardrobe malfunction that delayed the game for a little while.</p><p>Hield checked into the game with the wrong shorts, and he had to go to the locker room and change. A video caught Hield walking back to the sideline as head coach Steve Kerr was trying to figure out what happened. Buddy Hield, the sharpshooting guard the Warriors brought on last summer to aid Curry, Draymond Green, and Steve Kerr in their pursuit of a fifth NBA Championship, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-draymond-green-assigns-new-batman-names-buddy-hield-doesnt-agree-with">has been huge</a> for Golden State.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-buddy-hield-last-laugh-jimmy-butler-game-7-press-conference">Hield has been so good</a>, however, that he actually made NBA history.</p><h2><b>Warriors’ Buddy Hield makes NBA history in wins vs. Rockets, Timberwolves</b></h2><p>Buddy Hield finished the Warriors’ Game 7 win against the Rockets with a game-high 33 points, three rebounds, three assists, and two blocked on 12-of-15 shooting from the field and an NBA Game 7 record nine three-pointers on 11 attempts.</p><p>Then, in Game 1 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Hield came through again. </p><p>Hield finished the Warriors’ Game 1 win over the Timberwolves with a game-high 24 points, eight rebounds, and three assists on 7-of-19 shooting from the field and 5-of-8 from three.</p><p>Over the two-game span for the Warriors, Buddy Hield finished with 57 points on 19-of-34 shooting from the field and 14-of-19 from three.</p><p>According to Stathead, <a href="https://x.com/TomerAzarly/status/1920220000348221527">Hield is the first player</a> in NBA history to record 14 three-pointers on at least 70 percent shooting from three over a two-game span in the NBA Playoffs.</p><figure class="op-interactive"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">Buddy Hield over his last 2 playoff games:</p><p>14-of-19 3PT<br>73.7% 3PT</p><p>Only player with 14 threes on 70%+ 3PT in a 2 game span in NBA Playoff history.</p><p>— Tomer Azarly (@TomerAzarly) <a href="https://twitter.com/TomerAzarly/status/1920220000348221527?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">May 7, 2025</a></p></blockquote><p><script async="" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p></figure><p>The only player who comes close is former Warriors guard Klay Thompson, who had 14 threes on 63.6 percent shooting over a two-game span.</p><p>Hield’s eruption over the last two games has come at a great time. Stephen Curry struggled to score in the first half of Game 7 against the Rockets, but Buddy hit six threes to keep the Warriors ahead.</p><p>And once Curry left Game 1 against the Timberwolves with a hamstring injury, Hield was quick to step up and provide a scoring punch that kept the Wolves at bay all night long.</p><p>The performance by Hield prompted a couple of funny responses from both Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler, who Hield has developed a funny postgame routine with.</p><p>“I didn’t see what happened, I also didn’t see that he grabbed his hamstring,” <a href="https://x.com/957thegame/status/1919995912212119610">Draymond Green said</a> after the win. “I just saw him limping a bit so I walked over to him, telling him to pass it, and he’s kinda walking towards the locker room. I said, ‘you’re good?’ and he was like, ‘I’ll be back.’ He just kept pushing, but we didn’t really know what was going on for a while – several minutes, I mean like game-time minutes which is a lot longer, but we didn’t know for a long time. And then they finally told us it was a hamstring.</p><p>“It was a little deflating, but we know he did a great job of helping us build a comfortable enough lead and Robin turned into Batman – what should I call Buddy [Hield]? Alfred turned into Robin. They just filled in and it was beautiful to see.”</p><p>Hield and Butler were informed of Green’s comments after the game, and each made sure to express their true feeligns on it.</p><p>“I’m Batman today,” Hield joked. “I saved the day. [Jimmy] is still Robin.”</p><p>“I’m still Robin, yes,” Butler quipped back. “And Steph is still Batman. And Butter is still who he is. But he had a good game, man. Except for that stupid thing you did at the beginning of the game when you had on the wrong shorts.”</p><p>The Warriors are expected to be without Stephen Curry for at least one week, which rules him out of Games 2, 3, and 4 of the series. He’ll be re-evaluated in seven days, but given he’s never suffered a hamstring strain in his career, there’s an expectation that the Warriors will play it safe with their superstar point guard.</p><p>Game 2 of Warriors-Timberwolves is back in Minnesota on Thursday night at 5:30PM PST.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Befuddlingly, the Golden State Warriors guard’s request was granted and did not come at any cost (be it a delay of game or a timeout). It was a funny moment, as the look on Hield’s face when he realized his blunder was golden.</p><p>Hield had to be taken off the game for Gary Payton II, although he did return after three game minutes had elapsed. In the end, Hield’s blunder caused no harm, no foul, other than, perhaps, the embarrassment of having to go back to the locker room to put on the correct pair of shorts.</p><p>It was easy for Hield to point fingers, however, regarding who’s to blame for his wardrobe mishap, with the Warriors sharpshooter <a href="https://twitter.com/ClutchPoints/status/1919990676084723878" rel="noopener">placing the blame</a> on his good pal Jimmy Butler.</p><p>“Jimmy switched them out, and that’s what happened. However, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/betting/warriors-vs-rockets-game-7-prediction-odds-pick-spread-for-nba-playoffs-2025">Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets Game 7</a> was pure cinema.</p><p>After Hield dropped a playoff career-high 33 points, he told Amen Thompson <a href="https://www.sfgate.com/warriors/article/warriors-roast-dillon-brooks-game-7-win-20311191.php" rel="noopener">what he said</a> to Brooks during the game.</p><p>“I told him, ‘I sent you home. I’ma send you home again,” Hield told Thompson via Alex Simon of SF Gate.</p><p>The confrontation doesn’t come as a surprise. After all, Brooks has a way to get under everyone’s skin. He has that ability, unlike any player in the NBA.</p><p>Not to mention, Brooks said he was targeting Warriors’ guard Stephen Curry’s injured thumb after a Game 5 win. That raises questions, but it made Golden State embrace the villain role.</p><p>Curry was dubbed the “petty king” by his teammates, especially Hield. However, the latter isn’t one to talk much. He’ll let his game do the talking. However, he wanted to let Brooks know a little something.</p><p>Either way, the Warriors are moving on to the second round, while the Rockets will be watching from home. Hield will get his deja vu from that 2016 Elite Eight, where he dropped 37 points to advance Oklahoma over Oregon.</p><h2><b>Warriors’ Buddy Hield’s comments to Dillon Brooks are deja vu</b></h2><p>As mentioned earlier, the two squared off when they were in college. Brooks was representing Oregon, while Hield was a part of the Oklahoma Sooners.</p><p>Those schools always had elite matchups when they were there, despite being in different conferences and different parts of the country.</p><p>Now, both guys squared off in the first round of the NBA playoffs.</p><p>On a night when many thought Curry would be the hero, Hield put on the superhero cape and took over. For instance, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-buddy-hield-turns-heads-explosive-1st-half-game-7-vs-rockets">Hield’s first-half total had Warriors fans going bonkers</a>.</p><p>Furthermore, it even took Jimmy Butler by surprise. The two have always had a friendly banter with one another. However, it took it to a new level when Hield was trash-talking Brooks.</p><p>At the end of the day, the Warriors are moving on, thanks to a Buddy Hield masterclass. His 12/15 shooting line and <a href="https://sports.yahoo.com/article/buddy-hield-stunningly-ties-nba-211857632.html" rel="noopener">9-made 3-pointers</a> were beyond impressive.</p><p>Now, he’ll hope to carry over that success into the Minnesota Timberwolves series. They have a team that is tough, physical, and not afraid to talk it.</p><p>That might be what Hield needs, to secure more elite performances and more of a green light from his teammates and coaches.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
