In response to the reported betting investigation of free agent Malik Beasley, one of the Pistons’ pivots involved the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-detroit-free-agent-addition-malik-beasley-drama">acquisition of veteran shooting guard Caris LeVert</a>.</p><p>Detroit marks the fifth team for LeVert throughout his professional career. He has prior experience playing under Pistons’ head coach J.B. Bickerstaff dating back to 2022 with the Cleveland Cavaliers. LeVert <a href="https://x.com/CotyDavis_24/status/1949995036696830157" rel="noopener">expounded on the impact</a> Bickerstaff made on his game when speaking to the media Monday.</p><p>“I think J.B. brought out a different part of my game. Once I went to Cleveland, I was asked to play defense, and before then, I wasn’t really asked to play defense, and I think that’s one of the stronger parts of my game now,” LeVert explained. “I think my time in Cleveland really evolved me as a player, just defensively and kind of playing off the ball as well. I feel like those two or three things really took my game to the next level.</p><p>LeVert has earned a reputation as a cerebral scorer in the NBA. He has averaged just under 14 points per game throughout his nine-year career. That scoring prowess has been shown as an on-ball and off-ball threat. LeVert’s scoring skills have been a standout talent since his days at the University of Michigan from 2012 until 2016.</p><p>The Pistons also <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-detroit-agrees-to-48-million-duncan-robinson-sign-and-trade-with-heat">acquired shooting guard Duncan Robinson</a>, another former Wolverine, in a sign-and-trade transaction with the Miami Heat. When you’re a young player in this league, you’re kind of right there. I think the year before last, they were in a lot of games that they lost,” LeVert stated.</p><p>“I think this year they kind of took that step. I know J.B. was a big part of it, but I think that the guys took a step forward and had a component of ‘we’re not going to be that bad again this year.’ And I think that’s what you want as a young player. You want that hunger, I think these guys had it for sure.”</p><p>Each player of the Pistons’ young core made significant leaps last season under Bickerstaff. Beasley, Hardaway, and Tobias Harris helped create more floor space and open looks on the perimeter. LeVert and Robinson offer similar assistance as crafty veterans who have thrived on winning teams. Caris LeVert is one of the players who has been making an impact down the stretch after being traded from the Cleveland Cavaliers at the deadline.</p><p>LeVert has proved to be the scorer off the bench that the Hawks need, and he’s been a secondary scoring option next to Trae Young at the end of the games. With free agency coming up, LeVert has the chance to explore his options, but it seems like <a href="https://hoopshype.com/lists/nba-intel-trae-young-dyson-daniels-caris-levert-khris-middleton-wizards-grizzlies-okc/" rel="noopener">he likes the space</a> he’s in with the Hawks.</p><p>“We’ll see. I love this situation that I’m in right now,” LeVert said via Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. “I love this team. The staff has welcomed me with open arms. I didn’t really know Quin (Snyder) previously before coming here. Obviously, I’ve admired his style from afar for a long time. Antonio (Lang), Ekpe Udoh, and Ron Nored on the staff I’ve had relationships with, so I feel pretty comfortable here.</p><p>“Like I always tell them, I’d love to re-sign here. My focus right now is the rest of the season and making the playoffs. It’s definitely something I’d want.”</p><p>LeVert has fit in perfectly with what the Hawks are doing this season, which is why they’ve still been able to stay competitive despite the trades they made at the deadline.</p><h2><b>Caris LeVert is fitting right in with the Hawks</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Caris-LeVert_364b68.jpg"><figcaption>Brett Davis-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Georges Niang was also a part of the trade with LeVert, so he knows more about him than anybody on the team. Seeing how he’s fitting in with the Hawks, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/atlanta-hawks/hawks-news-trae-young-sidekick-earning-trust-when-bright-lights-are-on">Niang believes that the organization</a> and the players trust him.</p><p>“When you see that and the work that Caris puts in, and I think Trae sees that, and I think the coaching staff sees that, and you see it in his production, that builds trust,” Niang said. “I think when you have trust in someone, and they prove it to you when the bright lights are on, which Caris has done numerous times, that’s someone who wants the ball in their hands late in the game. Trae trusts him, we trust him, coach trusts him, and that’s our guy. Even with the Grizzlies <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/memphis-grizzlies/grizzlies-news-jaren-jackson-jr-leaves-game-ankle-injury-hawks">losing Jaren Jackson Jr. early on in the game due to injury</a> in addition to the absence of Ja Morant, the Hawks were still pushed to the brink, with Desmond Bane playing a starring role. But in the end, it was Bane who was on the receiving end of a stellar defensive play from Dyson Daniels which then led to the Grizzlies’ demise.</p><p>With the game tied at 130 and the clock winding down, Bane had a chance to shoot the Grizzlies to victory. But instead, he found himself stripped of the ball by Daniels, leading to a runout for the Hawks. Bane may have been in the middle of an impressive 35-point, 10-rebound, 10-assist night, but it was not the wisest decision for him to take on Daniels in a one on one situation, especially when the Hawks guard is one of the best guard defensive playmakers in the entire association.</p><p>It was also smart of LeVert to outrun Wells in transition, and it was even more impressive of him to keep his composure even with Vince Williams Jr. trying his best to swat that game-winning attempt out of the air.</p><p>With this win, the Hawks move to 28-33 on the year, which still has them within striking distance of homecourt advantage in the 7/8 play-in tournament game.</p><h2><b>Hawks launch paint assault on the Grizzlies</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Hawks-guard-Trae-Young-11-dumps-water-on-guard-Caris-LeVert.jpg"><figcaption>© Petre Thomas-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>With Jaren Jackson Jr. having to exit early, the Hawks found that their blueprint to victory on Monday night against the Grizzlies was to launch an all-out assault on the paint. Atlanta scored 82 points in the paint and made 57.3 percent of their 96 shot attempts on the night — making up for their lack of three-point volume.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/atlanta-hawks/hawks-news-caris-levert-georges-niang-cavs-tenure-help-atlanta">Caris LeVert put up 25 points for the Hawks off the bench</a>, and it’s as if Atlanta didn’t lose much when they traded De’Andre Hunter away. He started the season off with a knee injury, but once he came back on the floor, he looked like a completely different player for the Hawks, so much that he’s the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hawks-news-deandre-hunter-keeps-100-sixth-man-of-the-year-hype">frontrunner for the Sixth Man of the Year</a>.</p><p>Hunter had been doing it on both sides of the floor for the Hawks, averaging 19.0 points per game and guarding some of the opposing team’s best players. His offensive jump was big, and head coach Quin Snyder credited Hunter’s ability to shoot over defenders and make quick decisions for his improved play.</p><p>With Hunter having one of the best seasons of his career, his value skyrocketed, and it only made sense for the Hawks to get as much value as they could for him.</p><h2>Hawks looking to stay flexible with trade</h2><p>The main goal of the Hawks over the past few years has been to stay out of the luxury tax, and getting a deal for Hunter would help them do so. There seems to still be some things getting ironed out with the trade because it still keeps them in the tax, and a third team getting involved could change that. Nonetheless, most of the moves the Hawks have been making are to stay flexible in the future.</p><p>Caris LeVert will be a free agent after this season, and Georges Niang still has two years left on his deal. For now, LeVert can be a scoring option for the Hawks coming off the bench, and Niang can help with the depth at forward they need with Jalen Johnson out for the season.</p><p>The Hawks don’t have their pick for this season, so the goal is to remain financially flexible while still trying to compete. In today’s NBA, it can be hard to win without spending a lot of money, but the Hawks are young and still have a lot of room to grow. LeVert’s offensive production had been lacking before he missed two games in a row, combining for eleven points in his last two appearances.</p><p>LeVert is averaging 10.8 points, 3.8 assists, and 0.9 steals per game this season. It’s a dip in the kind of production we saw in 2023-24. However, he’s shooting at a career-best 42% clip from behind the three-point arc despite shooting a combined 1-for-10 in his last four outings.</p><p>The Cavs are 2-0 against the 76ers this season. Beating the Sixers by double-digits in each outing, the Cavs defeated the 76ers 114-106 in November before capturing a 126-99 win on December 21. Atkinson wanted to alter LeVert’s shot profile organically. However, in their roughly three seasons together, it couldn’t manifest. While that might be disappointing for Atkinson, LeVert did share with Cleveland media that it was <a href="https://youtu.be/UhJxhJgoGHs?si=6D9xQo1uDob2Wf7e" rel="noopener">more than just altering his shot diet</a>.</p><p>“I think in Brooklyn, I was in a different role: I was the first option,” said LeVert. “So, as a first option, you’re kinda taking tougher shots, and you’re not getting a lot of catch-and-shoot opportunities.”</p><p>So, curiously enough, when Atkinson was named the successor to J.B. Bickerstaff as Cleveland’s head coach, it led to a reunion with LeVert. However, it was more than just a cheerful Cavs-themed reunion. Instead, for Atkinson, it was a chance to make right on something he felt he had failed LeVert in doing.</p><h2><b>Diving deeper into Kenny Atkinson re-inventing Cavs swingman Caris LeVert’s offensive game</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Caris-LeVert-dribbles-Cavs-Wizards.jpg"><figcaption>Ken Blaze-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Roughly a quarter of the way into the season, Atkinson has refined LeVert’s shot profile on offense. In 21 appearances, LeVert <a href="https://www.nba.com/stats/player/1627747/shots-dash?PerMode=Totals" rel="noopener">has only taken six midrange attempts</a>. He attempted 52 shots from that vicinity a season ago. Additionally, he’s not relying on the floater as much as he did last season. He took 75 in the 2023-24 campaign yet has taken just six this campaign. Under Atkinson’s guidance, however, LeVert became an analytical darling, relying heavily on three-pointers and looks at the rim.</p><p>“I’m taking more 3s and trusting my catch-and-shoot,” LeVert said. “We’re moving the ball better, leading to more open shots for everybody. I feel like I’ve always been a great shooter, so it’s cool to be able to get open looks and knock them down.”</p><p>That sudden increase in efficiency has made LeVert a dynamic, potent threat off the bench. In total, 143 of LeVert’s 168 shot attempts this season have come either behind the 3-point arc or at the rim, and this change to his shot profile has paid dividends. LeVert is shooting 48.8 percent from 3-point range and 53.0 percent from the field, both career-highs.</p><p>“It’s changing his value,” Atkinson said of LeVert. “His value to our team, his value for future contracts. You have to be efficient in this sport. That’s what teams are looking for, and that’s what we’re looking for.”</p><p>That value LeVert gives the Cavs has had a trickle-down effect on the rest of the team’s bench. Statistically, Cleveland’s reserves have averaged 38.1 points per game this year, the eighth-best in the NBA. The Cavs’ reserves rank among the league’s best bench units. They’re third in reserve field goal percentage, fourth in bench three-point percentage, third in reserve assists, and eighth in bench unit steals.</p><p>“With Kenny, it’s just been great,” said LeVert. “When he first got the job, I think one of our first goals was to take another step forward, wherever that was. And I think we’re still building towards that. But I think he’s been just a great coach, big brother, whatever you want to say throughout my career. This win snapped Atlanta’s four-game losing skid, while Cleveland suffered its first home loss and second overall loss this season.</p><p>This will be the second of three meetings <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cavaliers-vs-hawks-prediction-odds-pick-for-nba-cup-2024">between Cleveland and Atlanta this year</a>. The series will then wrap up in late January in Cleveland. However, this one will carry the most weight of the three matchups between the Cavs and Hawks. There <a href="https://www.nba.com/nba-cup/2024/standings" rel="noopener">are serious ramifications</a> for the Group Play portion of the NBA Cup on the line.</p><p>If Cleveland loses to Atlanta, it will eliminate Cleveland from the NBA Cup race. However, even more intricate scenarios could unfold if the Hawks lose instead. Unfortunately, both teams are <a href="https://ak-static.cms.nba.com/referee/injury/Injury-Report_2024-11-29_12PM.pdf" rel="noopener">dealing with numerous injuries</a> heading into this matchup, making this a grind for either side.</p><h2><b>Who is unavailable for the Hawks against Cleveland?</b></h2><p>Against the Cavs, Atlanta will be without Dominick Barlow (NBA G League assignment), Mouhamed Gueye (NBA G League assignment), Seth Lundy (NBA G League assignment), Keaton Wallace (NBA G League assignment), and Cody Zeller (not with the team).</p><p>Trae Young, meanwhile, is dealing with right Achilles tendinitis and is listed as probable. Young’s availability will depend on how his Achilles tendon feels, so he will likely be a game-time decision.</p><p>The Hawks ruled Young out for their win over the Boston Celtics with right Achilles tendinitis. But so far, that is the only game that Young has missed this season. So, if he’s unable to go against the Cavs, it will be the second game he’s missed this year.</p><p>If Young cannot play, Garrison Mathews, Keaton Wallace, and David Roddy are all candidates for increased roles against the Cavs. Young’s next chance to suit up will come at home against Cleveland, and for now, it appears Atlanta is treating him as day-to-day.</p><h2><b>Who is unavailable for the Cavs against Atlanta?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Caris-LeVert-dribbles-Cavs-Hawks.jpg"><figcaption>Brett Davis-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Like the Hawks, the Cavs will be without several key contributors. Max Strus (ankle) and Dean Wade (ankle) remain sidelined. Meanwhile, Emoni Bates (NBA G League assignment, knee surgery) is still unavailable after offseason knee surgery. Like Bates, JT Thor (NBA G League assignment) and Luke Travers (NBA G League assignment) are also on assignment with the Cleveland Charge, the Cavs NBA G League affiliate. However, Thor and Travers are healthy enough to play, unlike Bates.</p><p>Cleveland’s matchup with Atlanta will be the 20th straight regular-season game without Strus. The Cavs sharpshooter sprained his right ankle during individual workouts. After confirming the sprain’s severity, it was announced that Strus would be reevaluated after six weeks of treatment and rehabilitation. There should be an update on the next steps in Strus’s recovery soon. However, head coach Kenny Atkinson has said that Strus is far from returning to the floor.</p><p>Wade, meanwhile, suffered an ankle sprain in Cleveland’s win over the Charlotte Hornets. The floor-spacing big man <a href="https://x.com/twithersAP/status/1858331884868276464" rel="noopener">was seen exiting the arena</a> in a walking boot postgame. Not having Wade available is a massive blow to a Cavs team dealing with injuries all season. Wade is arguably one of Cleveland’s best defenders and would help slow down Boston’s perimeter-heavy attack.</p><h2><b>The Cavs could welcome back Caris LeVert on the road against Atlanta</b></h2><p>On a happier note, Cleveland could welcome sixth man Caris LeVert back to the lineup against Atlanta. LeVert is questionable due to a nagging knee injury heading into the matchup. So, if anything, LeVert will be a game-time decision.</p><p>That same knee caused LeVert to miss the last game of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Celtics last season. LeVert said during training camp that it wasn’t until two or three weeks before camp that it felt “consistently good.” So, the Cavs will cautiously handle LeVert’s status from now on. On the season, LeVert has averaged 11.8 points on 53.4% shooting from the field and 4.5 assists in 24 minutes per game.</p><p>If LeVert cannot go on top of Wade and Strus, who are already sidelined, Isaac Okoro, Sam Merrill, Ty Jerome, and Georges Niang will be candidates for solid roles again.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

But, the Cavs could be without a key role player for the fifth game in a row.</p><p>Caris LeVert is <a href="https://ak-static.cms.nba.com/referee/injury/Injury-Report_2024-11-28_05PM.pdf" rel="noopener">listed as questionable</a> here due to knee inflammation, per the NBA’s Injury Report. However, this is a step in the right direction. LeVert has been strictly ruled out over the last couple of games. The questionable tag gives a glimmer of hope that he’s not far off a return.</p><p>The 30-year-old is an important second-unit piece for the surging Cavs. He’s averaging 11.8 points, 4.5 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per night while shooting an impressive 45.8% from three-point land. LeVert is playing 24.4 minutes per game.</p><p><a href="https://cavsnation.com/news/cavs-news-donovan-mitchell-bold-championship-take-ahead-2024-25-season" rel="noopener">Cleveland is looking like a legitimate title contender early on</a>. While <a href="https://cavsnation.com/news/cavs-news-kenny-atkinson-gets-brutally-honest-about-clevelands-performance-vs-hawks" rel="noopener">they did lose to the Hawks</a> on Wednesday evening, the Cavs are 8-2 in their last 10 and sitting 1.5 games ahead of the Boston Celtics in first place in the Eastern Conference.</p><p>The Cavs will be without a couple of other players on Friday in the In-Season Tournament, too. Max Strus (ankle) and Dean Wade (ankle) won’t suit up in Atlanta.</p><p>If LeVert is able to take the floor, it would definitely provide Kenny Atkinson’s bench with a boost. Donovan Mitchell led the way with 30 points in Wednesday’s defeat, while Evan Mobley added 22 points and 12 rebounds.</p><p>The Cavs need a win in the NBA Cup, sitting at just 1-1 in group play so far. Aside from getting revenge against the Hawks, it’s an important game to stay alive in the tourney.</p><p>Cleveland will need to find a way to slow down Trae Young, who was dropping dimes on Wednesday. However, in an update from Cleveland head coach Kenny Atkinson, LeVert is <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFDaawRbUMQ" rel="noopener">ramping up activity on the court</a>, which could mean he will be available to return soon.</p><p>“I watched him work out today. He went hard today, whatever that means,” Atkinson said. “I don’t want to give a date or a time, but it seems like he’s ramping up pretty quickly here. I would assume he’s ready within the next week.”</p><p>Considering LeVert is dealing with a knee injury that plagued him last year, it’s fair to wonder if the guard will ever be 100% on the floor this year. When asked, Atkinson was non-committal about whether it would be a long-term concern. So, for now, it’ll be worth keeping tabs on LeVert when he returns to the floor.</p><p>“I do know, like a lot of NBA players, he’s got nicks,” Atkinson said. “He’s a start-and-stop kind of player, like, decelerate, hard cutter, he’s definitely hard on his body. But I don’t anticipate it being a huge thing. I think it’s a little more wear and tear than, ‘Oh man, we got to worry about this thing long term.'”</p><h2><b>When could Caris LeVert return to the floor for the Cavs?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Caris-LeVert-dribble-drive-Cavs.jpg"><figcaption>Ken Blaze-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>On the season, LeVert has averaged 11.8 points on 53.4% shooting from the field and 4.5 assists in 24 minutes per game. Sure, LeVert’s absence has been somewhat overshadowed by Ty Jerome’s red-hot start to the year. However, Cleveland has missed their stud sixth man in their four games without him.</p><p>That said, time will tell how long the Cavs can keep this up without LeVert. He’s one of their best playmakers and scoring threats off the bench and thrived under Atkinson’s new offensive system. However, Cleveland is missing not just LeVert’s offense but also how he’s stepped up on defense this season.</p><p>“He’s improved so much defensively. I tell him every day,” said Atkinson.</p><p>“In Brooklyn, he was a young pup trying to figure it out. He’s really turned into a heck of a defensive player. He’s gotten so much stronger, obviously, but just his IQ and his activity – really, really improved defensive player.”</p><p>LeVert leads the Cavs <a href="https://www.nba.com/stats/players/advanced?CF=MIN*GE*15&amp;SeasonType=Regular%20Season&amp;TeamID=1610612739&amp;dir=-1&amp;sort=DEF_RATING" rel="noopener">in individual defensive rating</a>, allowing 106.5 points per 100 possessions while on the floor. Combine that with an offensive rating that’s second-best in the NBA, and LeVert is helping Cleveland outscore opponents by 21.2 points per 100 possessions when on the floor. The numbers speak for themselves, and getting LeVert back would be a massive boost for the Cavs. The next chance will be when Cleveland hits the road to take on the Hawks in Atlanta. For me, it’s not about just going against going to get the best players, the best players and folks on, it’s like going to get my family and people that I know genuinely rock with me and I want to continue the brand legacy and continue to be part of something special.”</p><p>“This is a startup company in America. Anta is a startup. It’s not a startup in China. So, we’re trying to compete with some of the bigger juggernauts. It’s one of the toughest things to do. He owns his designs and trademarks. That is something unheard anything in this sneaker brand.”</p><p>After a tumultuous tenure with the Nets, Irving has rectified his career with the Dallas Mavericks. Leading into Cleveland’s 2024-25 regular season, it was announced that sharpshooter Max Strus would miss at least the Cavs’ first 20 games with an ankle injury. With Strus out, Atkinson was forced to turn to forward Dean Wade as Cleveland’s starting small forward.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/cavs-news-dean-wade-is-finding-his-role-under-kenny-atkinson">Wade has been great as part of the Cavs’ starting five</a>. However, not having Strus tested Atkinson’s preference for strength in numbers. At the same time, it’s also led to Atkinson learning more about what’s available from Cleveland’s active roster. It’s also prompted Atkinson to lean more on sixth man Caris LeVert.</p><p>“I texted him the other day, I said, ‘Here we go, you gotta do it all,’” Atkinson recalled of a conversation with Caris LeVert when the news about Strus broke. “He’s the ultimate team guy, the ultimate high-character player. I don’t worry about him too much. For us, it’s really to find that niche. We gotta find it for him, like what that looks like with Max out.”</p><p>LeVert has been an indispensable spark off the bench through the season’s first five games. He’s filled every role the team has asked him to play. LeVert’s adaptability and relentless energy have made him critical in Cleveland’s second unit. But in the Cavs’ recent win over the Los Angeles Lakers, LeVert’s ability under Atkinson reached new heights.</p><h2><b>Caris LeVert gave the Cavs a spark against the Lakers</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Scottie-Barnes-gets-beat.jpg"><figcaption>Nick Turchiaro-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>While on the floor with Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen, the Cavs didn’t need LeVert’s scoring ability. Instead, they required his ability as a big-bodied playmaker, making it impossible for Los Angeles to defend against several ball-handling threats on the floor.</p><p>With the Lakers unable to defend him, LeVert led Cleveland’s sixth man to rack up six assists. Those six dimes led to 14 of the Cavs’ 42 first-quarter points, Cleveland’s best opening frame and the best start to their early season. LeVert thrived within the Cavs’ offense and took advantage of how Los Angeles defended him, helping build a lead that Cleveland never relented.</p><p>“Every night’s going to be something different, and he continues to provide that for us,” Donovan Mitchell said of LeVert postgame. “So when you have moments where, yeah, DG gets out, gets in foul trouble, different things, you’re able to throw a guy in that knows what he’s doing, able to defend, can score, can be on the ball, off the ball and do all the little things, and it gives us a jolt for sure.”</p><h2><b>Caris LeVert’s second-half boost against Los Angeles sealed the win</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/LeVert-Drives-Against-Boston.jpg"><figcaption>David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>LeVert’s six assists in the opening quarter were the only assists he had against the Lakers. However, LeVert scored 11 of his 16 points in the third quarter to help give the Cavs a 20-point lead heading into the final frame. If it weren’t for LeVert finding the balance between his playmaking and scoring, Cleveland could’ve suffered their first loss of the year.</p><p>“Oh man, Caris, I just can’t say enough,” Atkinson said. “We’re imploring him to be a more efficient player. To embrace the catch-and-shoot. He’s such a good ball handler, but man, the way the league is now, we need his shooting, too. So we just love how he’s doing it on both ends.”</p><p>LeVert has scored in double figures in 60% of Cleveland’s games this season, shooting 66.7% from the field and 62.5% from 3-point range. During those scoring outbursts, he’s logged more than four assists every time, showing his balance as a sixth man. After Cleveland’s win over Los Angeles, LeVert ranked first in offensive rating (130.5) and third in net rating (29.6) of players averaging 20 minutes or more. Heading into their upcoming matchup against the Orlando Magic, LeVert is still at the top in either category.</p><p>“It’s just my job just to be ready,” LeVert said. “Foul trouble. Guys maybe not playing well. My job is to come in and kind of do my thing.</p><p>“Another year around these guys has been beneficial for me as well. Another year in my role, doing what I do.”</p><p>To reach their ultimate goal, the Cavs need LeVert at his best. Strus’ injury should open up a ton of minutes on the wing, with Isaac Okoro and Caris LeVert the likely recipients of more playing time in the aftermath of this <a href="https://cavsnation.com/news/cavs-news-kenny-atkinson-names-options-replace-injured-max-strus" rel="noopener">unfortunate Strus development</a>.</p><p>LeVert has proven in the past that he is more than capable of stepping into a larger role when some of the teammates ahead of him on the depth chart are beset by injuries. The Cavs certainly endured their fair share of injuries last year (with Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, and Evan Mobley combining to miss 84 games last season), which then thrust LeVert into a more ball-dominant role.</p><p>As was the case last year, the Cavs will call upon LeVert to do a <a href="https://www.cleveland.com/cavs/2024/10/cavs-coach-kenny-atkinson-keeping-everyone-guessing-when-it-comes-to-max-strus-replacement.html" rel="noopener">little bit of everything</a>, as indicated by Kenny Atkinson when he revealed to Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com what he told the 30-year-old wing via text.</p><p>“I texted him the other day, I said, ‘Here we go, you’ve got to do it all. You might start, you might come off the bench,'” Atkinson said.</p><p>The trust level between LeVert and Atkinson is high, as they have experience working with one another during their time with the Brooklyn Nets. LeVert has filled this do-it-all, fill-the-gaps role without complaints over the past few years — a trait that Atkinson appreciates.</p><p>“I think Caris has accepted that role, and he’s done it well for the Cavs. I know in Brooklyn he did it well for us. He understands that’s his role. He’s the ultimate team guy, ultimate high-character player. I don’t worry about him too much,” Atkinson added.</p><p>The Cavs will be opening their season on Wednesday night when they take on the Toronto Raptors. Cleveland does not have another player on the roster who has a <a href="https://cavsnation.com/news/cavs-news-max-strus-officially-introduces-himself-breaking-all-time-franchise-record" rel="noopener">similar skillset to that of Strus’</a>.</p><p>Nonetheless, Caris LeVert is a versatile option to have for the Cavs to call upon times of need. LeVert’s ballhandling and shot-creation off the bounce on the wing is his calling card as a player, but for Kenny Atkinson, it’s all about maximizing the other facets of his game.</p><p>“For us, it’s really to find that niche. We’ve gotta find it for him. What that looks like with Max out? He’s obviously a really good ball-handler, so, how does that work with Darius and Donovan? Then what big is best for him to play with?
