His playing time dropped to 18.4 minutes per contest, the lowest of his five-year career.</p><p>“I’m super excited to be (in Milwaukee), man,” Anthony said. “It just feels like a breath of fresh air after being in Orlando for the past five years. Obviously, I loved my time there, but this feels like, for me, a stepping stone in my career.”</p><p>Anthony’s best season came during his sophomore campaign in 2021-22. That year, he averaged 16.3 points, 5.7 assists, and 5.3 rebounds while shooting 39.1% from the floor in 65 games. I looked at the structure of the team (and) the coaching staff and just was like, ‘All right, this aligns with my goals.’ I feel like I could slot in here and help this team win some games.”</p><p>Anthony added that his focus is on being a versatile contributor in whatever role the Bucks need.</p><p>“I just want to come in and help the team win in whichever way I can,” he said. “I think they’re going to ask me to do what I can do, which is score, pass the ball, guard, whatever, but I’m just really happy to be a part of this team specifically because it’s been great being here these past couple weeks and being with these guys. The energy is high. There’s a real professional vibe around everybody, and everybody has a chip on their shoulder.”</p><p>Milwaukee will open training camp next Monday, with the season set to begin Oct. 22 at home against the Washington Wizards. He shot 41.9% from the field, including 34.5% from beyond the arc, and 84.7% from the free-throw line.</p><p>Despite being active in the Magic’s rotation throughout each regular season, his presence in the playoffs wasn’t as frequent. Playing 24.8 minutes in each regular-season contest, his playing time goes down to 12.8 minutes per game in the playoffs.</p><p>Anthony’s role wasn’t going to fit with Memphis considering the logjam at the point guard position. The Grizzlies already have star guard Ja Morant and have found a noteworthy young player on the rise in Scotty Pippen Jr. This would have reduced Anthony’s role, making the contract buyout a reasonable one.</p><p>The Bucks do improve at the guard position. After waiving and stretching the remainder of Damian Lillard’s contract, they had an open spot available. This granted the chance for Anthony to enter the equation and take the spot.</p><p>Milwaukee now has a backcourt featuring Anthony, Kevin Porter Jr. and Gary Trent Jr. The trio will look to assist Giannis Antetokounmpo in making noise in the Eastern Conference. A new report suggests Cole Anthony may be on his way out as Memphis restructures financially to lock in a long-term deal for Jaren Jackson Jr.</p><p>As reported by Shams Charania on X (formerly known as Twitter) the Grizzlies and Anthony’s representatives at Excel Sports are “working toward a resolution” that allows the team to clear the <a href="https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/1939815942533308784" rel="noopener">necessary space</a> for Jackson’s extension.</p><p>“The Memphis Grizzlies and Cole Anthony’s reps at Excel Sports are working toward a resolution that allows Memphis to create the necessary cap space to renegotiate and extend Jaren Jackson Jr. while giving Anthony the opportunity to find his next destination,” Charania wrote.</p><p>Anthony, who was acquired in the Desmond Bane trade, may not stay long in Memphis. His $12.9 million salary would be a key piece in freeing up funds to complete the expected deal with Jackson Jr., who remains central to the team’s future.</p><p>Meanwhile, the Grizzlies made another roster move by rewarding Cam Spencer with a two-year, $4.5 million fully guaranteed deal.
