With Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero out due to injuries, it has allowed guys like Cole Anthony to step up to the plate. He dropped 24 points, seven rebounds, and four assists while shooting 50% from the field and three.</p><p>Although <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/magic-news-paolo-banchero-out-several-weeks-after-brutal-injury-diagnosis">Banchero has been injured since November</a>, and Wagner since December, Orlando still has the Magic. The 22-16 record has Anthony <a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1876465162414141546" rel="noopener">confident in his team</a>, even without their star players.</p><p>“We have enough,” Anthony said postgame. “We are enough and we just proved it again tonight. … Bodies down? Cool. We still got bodies, that are active that can get after it.”</p><p>This season has been tumultuous for the Magic regarding injuries. Most notably, Magic guard Jalen Suggs went down and had to be helped off in a wheelchair. He had back spasms as his official injury but that was a synopsis of Orlando’s season.</p><p>Still, they have various players who can help the team to win. Anthony has been one of them. Even with fickle playing time, he’s making the most of it. Furthermore, there’s a sense of unity within the team not only from the injuries but also because they all enjoy playing with one another on the court.</p><h2><b>Cole Anthony is confident in the Magic even with injuries</b></h2><p>A 22-16 record and the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference is impressive when considering the injuries to Wagner and Banchero. Two of their top scorers are out and have been out for a substantial amount of time. This seems to be an adversity test and the team is excelling. Guys like Anthony, Jonathan Isaac, and Wendell Carter Jr. have all stepped up in a big way. The unity is evident from a mile away. And a win against the New York Knicks without two of the top scorers, in Madison Square Garden, is a statement win.</p><p>However, the Magic will hope to get Banchero and Wagner back sooner rather than later. Before his oblique injury, Wagner was carrying the offensive load for Orlando. Once he and Banchero get back, it’ll expand the offensive dynamics of the team. Albeit <a href="https://www.nba.com/stats/teams/advanced-leaders" rel="noopener">they’re great defensively</a>, getting two of their best scorers back will create a more balanced attack going forward.</p><p>Orlando takes on the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday. With a contract extension unlikely for Cole Anthony, don’t be surprised if new general manager Anthony Parker and the Orlando front office address their team’s roster redundancy by <a href="https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10089386-nba-intel-contract-extension-predictions-for-2020-nba-draft-class" rel="noopener">looking to trade him</a>.</p><p>One NBA agent told Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report the Magic are likelier to move Anthony before the regular season tips off than sign him to a contract extension.</p><p>“I think they move Anthony, maybe even before the season. But I don’t think they extend him,” they said.</p><p>The No. 15 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, Anthony hasn’t quite established himself as a member of Orlando’s foundational core next to ever-improving swingman Franz Wagner and reigning Rookie of the Year Paolo Banchero. His most productive season came in 2021-22, when Anthony started at point guard in all 65 games he played while averaging 16.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game. He was woefully inefficient, though, putting up an ugly true shooting percentage of 51.9—damning for a lead guard who creates more for himself than teammates.</p><p>Anthony reverted back to a bench role last season with Markelle Fultz fully healthy, averaging 13.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game on 57.0% true shooting, an easy career-high right in line with league average. While the Magic could certainly use his scoring punch and two-way energy—best reflected in awesome rebounding numbers for his size—off the bench in 2023-24 and beyond, the failure to reach a contract extension with Anthony before he hits restricted free agency next summer presents the perfect opportunity for Orlando to better balance its roster with a trade.</p><p>There probably <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-magics-nba-draft-to-jalen-suggs-cole-anthony-exit" rel="noopener">isn’t room on the Magic’s roster</a> long-term for Fultz, Jalen Suggs and rookie Anthony Black given their inability to consistently threaten defenses from beyond the arc and other stylistic similarities. Anthony is a far superior shot-maker to his younger teammates, but not the type of difference-maker Orlando would regret moving to give Fultz, Suggs and Black longer runways to succeed. Rookie wing Jett Howard needs minutes and touches, too.</p><p>Anthony still has the chance to carve out an impactful niche in the league as a third or fourth guard. They’ve missed the playoffs in nine of the last 11 seasons and are fully on track to make that ten of the last 12 seasons. They have been assembling a roster of some intriguing talent though headlined by Paolo Banchero who is <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/magic-news-paolo-banchero-achieves-rookie-feat-only-magic-johnson-larry-bird-accomplished" rel="noopener">the frontrunner</a> for the Rookie of the Year this season. Another player who looks to be a part of the Magic future is Cole Anthony. Anthony is no stranger to throwing down highlight dunks as he participated in last season’s dunk contest during All-Star weekend. Now his third year in the NBA, Anthony is establishing himself as part of the Magic’s young core. While he has been coming off the bench, he is fifth in the team in scoring. He is averaging 11.9 points per game, 4.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists while shooting 43.1 percent from the field and 32.1 percent from the three-point line. He’s also shooting a career-high 89.1 percent from the free-throw line.</p><p>Last season, Anthony had his best year as an NBA player so far after dealing with various injuries as a rookie. He put up 16.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.7 assists while playing in 65 games, all starts. If the Magic hope to one day be a force in the Eastern Conference, they’re going to need Anthony to help them get there.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Before the meeting on Monday, Boston lost to the Magic, also at home, last Friday to the tune of a 117-109 score. It just seems that the Magic have the Celtics’ number, though, Boston won the first showdown with the Magic this season, 126-120, on the road way back in October.</p><p>Despite losing back-to-back to the Magic, the Celtics remain seated high in the Eastern Conference standings with a 22-0 record. They will still have a shot at getting back at the Magic with one more matchup against Orlando remaining on their calendar which will be played this coming January at Amway Center.</p><p>The Celtics, who have not lost three games in a row this season thus far, will face the Indiana Pacers next at home on Wednesday.</p><p> </p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Jalen Suggs has missed a few games due to ankle problems, Terrence Ross missed their last game with an illness, while Gary Harris only recently returned from a knee injury. Nonetheless, it seems as if the Magic are inching slowly towards welcoming an entirely healthy squad, with Markelle Fultz set to make his season debut and Cole Anthony set to make his return from an oblique injury.</p><p>Fultz is <a href="https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/status/1597614818911215617" rel="noopener">expected to be available</a> for the Magic’s Wednesday night clash against the slumping Atlanta Hawks, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania. In addition, Fultz shot 46.5 percent from the field, solid enough for someone whose outside shot remains unpolished.</p><p>Markelle Fultz drew considerable flak to begin his career with the Philadelphia 76ers, as he was unable to produce at a level befitting of a first overall pick. The 24-year old suffered through well-documented shooting troubles and the Sixers gave up on him shortly thereafter.</p><p>Nonetheless, Fultz will have plenty of opportunity to make something yet of his career, starting with his impending return.
