Just because the Dubs failed to make major moves before noon pacific on Thursday hardly means the locker room won’t be affected by the one trade Mike Dunleavy Jr. and the front office did make, though.</p><p>After his team’s <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-red-hot-steph-curry-praises-surging-dubs-total-team-effort-in-blowout-win-over-pacers" rel="noopener">impressive blowout win</a> over the Indiana Pacers on Thursday night, Stephen Curry was asked for his thoughts on Golden State’s approach at the trade deadline. Unprompted, the four-time champion brought up Cory Joseph, lamenting the absence of a veteran “connector” who he and his teammates will sorely miss going forward.</p><p>“Sucks losing Cory. If anybody knows Cory Joseph and his personality, his presence…He’s the ultimate professional,” Curry said. “He brings just a great spirit about it in the locker room helping the young guys. He’s been around, knows how to play. That type of guy is a connector and we’re gonna miss him for sure. That was obviously a tough one. The deal saved Joe Lacob millions in luxury tax savings while giving Golden State at least one pick—even if it’s a second-rounder—in this year’s NBA Draft. Joseph’s exit also opened up another roster spot, one potentially filled by current two-way player Lester Quinones, who surpassed the 32-year-old in Steve Kerr’s rotation over the last few games.</p><p>Golden State signed Joseph to a one-year minimum deal in free agency. Brought in to serve as the Warriors’ third point guard behind Curry and Chris Paul, Joseph played a semi-frequent role over the first two months of the season as multiple perimeter contributors were lost to injury. He got his most consistent run in January, after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-steve-kerr-clarifies-dubs-backup-point-guard-plan-chris-paul-sidelined" rel="noopener">Paul went down with a broken hand</a> in a narrow home victory over the lowly Detroit Pistons.</p><p>Joseph averaged 2.9 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 14.4 minutes off the bench across 10 consecutive appearances, shooting 11-of-25 overall (44%) and 7-of-17 from three-point range (41.1%). He wasn’t the impact defender he was in his prime, though, occasionally exploited by the opposition’s perimeter stars. Just as problematic, teams unthreatened by his three-point proficiency laid off Joseph away from the ball offensively, cramping Golden State’s spacing.</p><p>Curry’s glowing appraisal of Joseph still shone through on the court and on the bench, however. He fought tooth and nail every time he took the floor for the Warriors, most recently and memorably early in a win over the Atlanta Hawks on January 25th, helping his team get a win with the effort, passion and tenacity it was initially tough to muster so soon after beloved assistant Dejan Milovic’s passing.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/pacers-next-step-after-cory-joseph-trade-with-warriors" rel="noopener">Indiana waived Joseph</a> immediately after acquiring him, opening a roster spot to re-sign veteran forward James Johnson. It’s unclear where he’ll go from here for the remainder of 2023-24; there’s also a possibility the 13th-year veteran is relegated to trying his hand in free agency come July. What’s absolutely certain, though, is that Joseph will be missed by his former teammates and coaches with the Warriors.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

After <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-golden-state-trades-cory-joseph-pacers-keep-andrew-wiggins-deadline" rel="noopener">re-acquiring the veteran point guard</a> from the Golden State Warriors at Thursday’s trade deadline in exchange for a second-round pick and cash considerations, Indiana has decided to waive Joseph, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.</p><p>The Pacers and Warriors agreed on a deal that sent Joseph and a 2024 second-rounder back to Indianapolis shortly before Thursday’s 3:00 p.m. (EST) trade deadline. Golden State also provided Indiana with <a href="https://twitter.com/TonyREast/status/1755690413418041646" rel="noopener">$5.8 million</a> in the deal, according to Pacers insider Tony East, as a sweetener to get off Joseph’s contract and lower owner Joe Lacob’s luxury tax bill. Indiana still has one second-round pick at its disposal in the upcoming draft, too.</p><p>Joseph previously played for the Pacers in 2017-18 and 2018-19, establishing himself as a reliable, defense-minded backup point guard. While his presence in the locker room would’ve no doubt been a boon for Indiana, there was just no realistic path to playing time for him behind franchise point guard Tyrese Haliburton, stalwart backup TJ McConnell and emerging sophomore combo guard Andrew Nembhard.</p><p>The Pacers are also <a href="https://twitter.com/TonyREast/status/1755711448406278433" rel="noopener">hoping to sign</a> veteran forward James Johnson before Thursday’s matchup with the Warriors, according to East.</p><p>Joseph was a bit player for the Warriors this season, only finding his way into Steve Kerr’s rotation due to injury and absences. He shot 35.9% overall and 31.0% from deep in 26 appearances, also falling off defensively compared to his peak—no surprise considering Joseph is 32 years old.</p><p>Joseph’s immediate future remains uncertain. While a valued voice who’s long had the respect of teammates and coaches, he’s overstretched as a primary backup point guard at this juncture of his career, best suited for an end-of-bench role. Joseph could be picked up by a team with an open roster spot soon, or try to find his way back onto a roster in free agency this summer.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He studied journalism and communication at UConn.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The Golden State Warriors are reportedly <a href="https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/status/1755684647143436372" rel="noopener">trading</a> Cory Joseph to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for a second-round pick and cash ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.</p><p>While the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-klay-thompson-drops-savage-reminder-haters-confident-take" rel="noopener">Warriors</a> did move Cory Joseph ahead of the deadline, Andrew Wiggins is <a href="https://twitter.com/BrettSiegelNBA/status/1755682665578029326" rel="noopener">remaining with the team</a>, according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.</p><p>There has been much speculation in regards to what the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-warriors-linked-to-kelly-olynyk-as-trade-deadline-approaches" rel="noopener">Warriors</a> were going to do ahead of the deadline, and now we know. Cory Joseph, who had played 26 games, averaging 2.4 points for the Warriors this year, is on the way out. There was a lot of speculation in regards to Andrew Wiggins’ future with the team, but he remains and will try to help the Warriors make the playoffs.</p><p>Joseph joins a Pacers team that is hopeful to make a playoff run this year with Tyrese Haliburton leading the way. This was his first season with Golden State, and he will not complete the season there. Joseph brings a veteran presence to a Pacers team that is good, but mostly young. He could be a valuable person for younger players to lean on this spring.</p><p>For Wiggins, he stays in the spot that he played the best basketball in his career. It has not gone to plan for Wiggins and the Warriors as a whole this year, but the team is still intact and trying to make a run at a spot in the NBA Play-In tournament, and make the playoffs from there.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

With Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green once again running things in the Bay Area, as well as Chris Paul joining the title hunt, the Warriors will enter the 2023-24 season as <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-2023-offseason-recap-chris-paul-stephen-curry-draymond-green-klay-thompson" rel="noopener">championship contenders once more</a>.</p><p>However, injuries have stood in the way of this team reaching their full potential over the years, and it appears as the Warriors will once again have to find production in their depth due to ailments. Green recently <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-draymond-green-ankle-injury-before-training-camp" rel="noopener">suffered an ankle sprain</a> during a scrimmage and on Monday, Golden State gave an official update on his status.</p><p>According to The Athletic’s Anthony Slater, the team stated that Draymond would be <a href="https://x.com/anthonyVslater/status/1708903949678657844?s=20" rel="noopener">re-evaluated in two weeks</a> due to a left lateral ankle sprain. Veteran point guard and newly added Cory Joseph will also be re-evaluated in two weeks, as he is currently dealing with a lower back lumbar strain. Both players are set to miss the start of training camp.</p><p>Green is an invaluable piece of the Warriors’ championship pursuit. What he’s able to do for them on both ends of the floor cannot be replaced, which is why the team awarded him with a new <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-draymond-green-free-agency-4-year-100-million-contract" rel="noopener">four-year, $100 million contract</a> in free agency. While it is unfortunate that he will miss training camp and potentially the start of the regular season, it is definitely good news that Green will be re-evaluated in two weeks.</p><p>In a total of 73 games last season, Green averaged 8.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game while playing at an All-Defensive level. In fact, Draymond made the NBA All-Defensive Second Team, the eighth All-Defensive honor he’s earned in his now 11-year career.</p><p>“I feel good, I feel like I am improving fast. I’m a pretty fast healer,” <a href="https://x.com/NBCSWarriors/status/1708916176284426625?s=20" rel="noopener">Green told reporters</a> at Media Day on Monday. “I didn’t quite foresee this coming into the season, but everything happens for a reason. I’m excited because we have a great performance team and I’ll be in even better shape by the time, whatever that is, when I start playing.”</p><p>As for Joseph, the Warriors signed him to a one-year, minimum deal in free agency for added point guard depth. Given his championship experiences with the San Antonio Spurs earlier in his career, Joseph figures to be another veteran voice in what has turned out to be one of the more experienced locker rooms in the entire league.</p><p>Both Green and Joseph do not appear to have significant injuries and the Warriors are holding out hope that they will both be ready for opening night against the Phoenix Suns on October 24.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

A veteran who has been a part of both contending and rebuilding teams through the years, Joseph will provide Golden State with a sense of stability in their second-unit, something they have been lacking through the years.</p><p>Before embarking on his journey with the Warriors for the 2023-24 season, though, Joseph was set to represent Team Canada in the FIBA World Cup at the end of August. This will no longer be the case though, as the 31-year-old guard has <a href="https://www.thestar.com/sports/basketball/jamal-murray-iffy-for-fiba-world-cup-as-canada-leaves-for-exhibition-series/article_156dd824-6506-542e-bd2b-3647e85ede50.html" rel="noopener">withdrawn</a> to prepare for the upcoming NBA season with his new team, according to Doug Smith from the Toronto Star.</p><p>In addition to wanting to prepare for his time with the Warriors, Joseph also experienced an issue with his back during Team Canada’s training camp. This ended up being another reason why he will no longer represent Canada at the World Cup.</p><p>The Warriors will be Joseph’s sixth NBA franchise, as he has spent time with the San Antonio Spurs, Toronto Raptors, Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings and most recently, the Detroit Pistons. In a total of 12 seasons, he has averaged 7.1 points and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 44.2 percent from the floor and 35.0 percent from three-point range.</p><p>Heading into his 13th NBA season, Joseph will be looking to prove that he is one of the missing pieces in the Warriors’ championship equation. Recently, he revealed that one of the driving forces that led him to signing with Golden State was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-cory-joseph-andrew-wiggins-friendship" rel="noopener">his relationship</a> with fellow Canadian basketball player Andrew Wiggins.</p><p>“We played together with Team Canada and we’ve always been super close,” Joseph said of Wiggins. “His brother was just here at my wedding, so yeah, we’ve always been super close and I’m excited to play with him because obviously he’s an amazing player. He brings a lot to the team, so I’m excited to have the chance to just be out there with him.”</p><p>While it is not necessarily good news that Joseph is dealing with back discomfort, Warriors fans should be relieved that their new veteran will be taking time to prepare for the upcoming season instead of playing in the FIBA World Cup.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
