This comes after Fox called out Golden State Warriors’ Draymond Green for being the league’s biggest whiner. Perhaps the long-term commitment has given him a boost of confidence heading into his first full season with the Spurs.</p><p>Coming off a season-ending injury, Fox <a href="https://twitter.com/TheHoopCentral/status/1963790759011967045" rel="noopener">showed he can still fly</a> by pulling off a windmill dunk off an alley oop pass and sent a message to the NBA, per Spurs reporter Jeff Garcia.</p><p>“Tell them boys I still got bounce,” Fox said after the dunk.</p><p>Fox’s season ended in March after suffering a tendon injury in his left pinkie. For me, it’s that duo and seeing how Wemby bounces back from that blood clot issue, and De’Aaron Fox from his surgery. They have a great, good core around them. They just drafted Dillon Harper. They have Stephon Castle.</p><p>“They have so many good, young pieces. Vassell. You got Keldon Johnson over there. Jeremy Sohan. They have a really great young core. The Warriors are hoping that a full offseason <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-draymond-greens-hilarious-jimmy-butler-reaction-to-heat-trade">with Jimmy Butler</a> will get them past the second round roadblock that has stopped them since their championship in the 2021-22 season.</p><p>While his play has diminished over the last few years, Green’s propensity for antics and complaining has somehow gone up from their already historic heights, and recently, San Antonio Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox stopped by FanDuel’s <i>Run It Back</i> show to put Green on blast.</p><p>“Draymond will clothesline you and then look at the ref like, ‘What’d I do?’” said Fox, per HoopsHype.</p><p>Fox <a href="https://www.hoopshype.com/story/sports/nba/rumors/2025/09/03/deaaron-fox-draymond-green-is-the-leagues-biggest-complainer/85951402007/" rel="noopener">also noted that</a> “Luka’s up there” in terms of complaining, as well as adding that “reffing is god-awful at times.”</p><p>Still, Green’s dirty play and frequent technical fouls have cost the Warriors meaningful games on more than one occasion, including possibly a championship during the 2016 season, and the fact that it has only gone up since that point has to be somewhat alarming for head coach Steve Kerr and company.</p><h2><b>Can the Warriors compete?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Stephen-Curry-smiling.jpg"></figure><p>Last year, the Golden State Warriors’ exit in the second round of the playoffs vs the Minnesota Timberwolves was largely blamed on Stephen Curry’s unfortunate hamstring injury that he suffered in the first half of game one of the series.</p><p>Curry was unable to return at any point during the matchup, and the Warriors’ offense predictably fell off a cliff as a result.</p><p>With Curry back and healthy, there’s a chance the Warriors could compete for a championship once again this year, even in the crowded Western Conference, which features the reigning champion Oklahoma City Thunder.</p><p>However, with Green, Curry, and Butler all set to be 36 or older during the upcoming 2025-26 season, Warriors fans likely would have wanted to see the team’s front office add more in the way of depth this offseason in order to avoid a similar situation to last year, and Mike Dunleavy and company have done precisely nothing in that department so far this summer.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The move erased any doubts about <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/san-antonio-spurs/spurs-rumors-how-san-antonio-feels-about-3-headed-pg-monster">whether the Spurs</a> would look to move on from Fox amid the arrival of Dylan Harper and the emergence of Stephon Castle.</p><p>On Tuesday, Fox took to X, formerly Twitter, to share <a href="https://x.com/swipathefox/status/1952827090954543325" rel="noopener">a special message</a> in the wake of the big news.</p><p>“San Antonio! So thankful to be a part of an incredible organization, it’s an honor to put on black and silver. Can’t wait for us to make our future! Race for Seis! Go Spurs Go,” wrote Fox, alongside silver and black heart emojis.</p><p>The Spurs traded for Fox just before last year’s trade deadline, getting him out of an old situation with the Sacramento Kings that was growing more dire by the minute.</p><p>However, Fox and Spurs star Victor Wembanyama didn’t get to share the court for much time before Wembanyama went out for the season with a blood clot, from which he has since recovered. Meanwhile, Fox was sidelined with his own injury shortly after that.</p><h2><b>A strange situation for the Spurs</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Fox-vs-the-Mavs.jpg"><figcaption>Daniel Dunn-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Spurs currently have a bit of a logjam at the guard position with Fox, rookie number two overall pick Dylan Harper, and last year’s Rookie of the Year award winner Stephon Castle all vying for minutes in the rotation.</p><p>The most likely situation at the current juncture is that San Antonio starts Fox and Castle in the backcourt while bringing Harper off the bench. However, if Harper quickly starts living up to his star potential, the Spurs could have some interesting decisions to make in terms of how they configure their lineup moving forward.</p><p>Of course, the head of the snake will remain Wembanyama, who was on pace to win last year’s Defensive Player of the Year award before the blood clot scare.</p><p>However, Wembaynama thankfully has been cleared to play for this upcoming season and could quickly enter the MVP race if he continues on his current trajectory.</p><p>The Spurs’ schedule is set to be announced later this month.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Thanks to the kind of lottery luck that tends to pay them big dividends, San Antonio added Dylan Harper with the second overall pick this summer despite the fact that they were closer to the top of the non-playoff teams than the bottom.</p><p>With those two young guards, questions arose about whether Fox proved as vital to the roster as he did just half a year ago.</p><h2>The true Spurs key behind Fox’s max deal</h2><p>While Castle will be even better this coming year and though Harper is expected to contribute instantly, both are still extremely young. Harper has yet to play an actual NBA game. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/san-antonio-spurs/spurs-news-deaaron-fox-confident-take-whats-next">Fox will carry a scoring load through the entire season</a>.</p><p>And beyond.</p><p>This deal represents more than scoring, line-ups, X’s and O’s.</p><p>While reports suggested that Kevin Durant named San Antonio as a preference this off-season, Fox is the rare All-Star who <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/san-antonio-spurs/spurs-deaaron-fox-drops-eye-opening-take-potential-contract-extension">all but committed to the city</a>. They’ve been hard to come by for a franchise that’s traditionally relied on home grown talent and the signings of standouts looking for a ring toward the end of their careers.</p><p>To have denied Fox a max contract would’ve sent a message to every NBA star.</p><p>The wrong one.</p><p>In extending the 27-year-old point guard, the Spurs cement a threat for most of the next half-decade.
