He led Denver through an erratic season that saw the organization fire head coach Michael Malone less than two weeks before the playoffs started. Jokic isn’t dealing with any sort of injury, but he got sick on Monday and was forced to miss Tuesday’s game against the Boston Celtics and Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers.</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/celtics-news-kristaps-porzingis-delivered-promise-win-nuggets">Nuggets battled with the defending champs</a> on Tuesday night, but eventually fell short in a 118-106 loss. Reading two different things when those guys are on the court.”</p><p>Murray and Jokic have developed an unmatched chemistry as one of the most lethal two-man combinations in the NBA, but the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/jamal-murray-silences-critics-34-point-performance-nuggets-win-over-pistons">longtime Nuggets guard had a good night</a> even without his running mate alongside him on Wednesday. Murray finished the game with 21 points on 7-for-13 shooting with nine assists. Jordan benefitted, finishing 5-for-6 with 12 points and nine boards.</p><p>This game also went a long way towards dispelling the narrative that the Nuggets are one of the worst teams in the NBA without Jokic. While the minutes are often ugly when Jokic is on the bench, the last two nights have shown that the Nuggets are capable of playing quality, competitive basketball even when their star is out of the lineup. Even the Memphis Grizzlies’ Tony Allen, one of the toughest defenders of his era, faced the full force of a DeAndre Jordan poster.</p><p>In a recent appearance on The Chris Vernon Show, Allen put up Jordan dunking on him in the playoffs as the best dunk he’d ever seen.</p><p>“I’m trying to do All-Team Defense,” the Grizzlies swingman said, while watching the replay. “‘Cause it was supposed to be my tag–I’m supposed to come over there and tagged, right? And I got over there just a little too late, and man, Chris Paul looked out the way and threw that MF like that. I said, ‘Oh my God.’ That’s when I knew. With Marc Gasol protecting the paint and Tony Allen on the perimeter, no one wanted to play the Grizz at their peak.</p><p>Still, defense has its consequences, one of them is another player putting you on a poster, like DeAndre Jordan dunking on Tony Allen. However, the Grindfather obviously knows that it’s just part of playing hard-nosed defense.</p><p>Allen was part of the 2008 Boston Celtics squad whose defense carried them to the championship. DeAndre Jordan has yet to watch Clipped, however.</p><p>Jordan began his NBA career with the Clippers in 2008. He would play with the team through the 2017-18 season. Jordan established a reputation as one of the better all-around centers in the league. Blake Griffin and Jordan led the “Lob City” era as Chris Paul consistently tossed the star big men alley-oops which led to memorable highlights.</p><p>So why hasn’t Jordan watch Clipped yet? For those who may not be aware, the show focuses on the “Lob City” era Clippers when Donald Sterling was still the owner. It takes a look at Sterling’s unsettling controversies and how they impacted the team.</p><p>“Shout out to those people for putting that on. I’m sure it’s loosely based off of some things that have happened but entertainment sells so it’s [shrugs]…I mean we text about it for sure, like we talk about it like the practice scene when Doc is going crazy on guys.</p><p>“Don’t get it twisted Doc was on guys but some of the things he said on there were absolutely false…I love Matt Barnes and Doc, You think if Doc said what he said in the show to Matt Barnes there wouldn’t have been a fistfight on the court?”</p><p>DeAndre Jordan acknowledged that it is for entertainment purposes and knows that draws attention. That does not mean he is interested in watching it. After all, he referred to one scene as “absolutely false” and Jordan has only seen clips from the show.</p><p>The Clippers featured no shortage of potential but failed to win a championship. They had one of the greatest core of players ever to never win a championship. It is interesting that DeAndre Jordan and Paul George discussed the show, as George is of course now playing for the Clippers.</p><p>George’s Clippers are also talented but they have continued to fall short in the postseason. Redick has been the frontrunner throughout the Lakers’ coaching process search aside from that two-week period in which the team reportedly <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-jj-redick-true-feelings-dan-hurley-pursuit-before-hiring">pulled out all the stops</a> to bring in UConn’s Dan Hurley, and now, the Purple and Gold have their man.</p><p>There is simply no telling how successful Redick will be; as highly-regarded his knowledge of the game may be, there is no greater teacher than experience, and this Lakers job isn’t just his first head coaching gig in the NBA, it is the first of his career. Nonetheless, Redick’s former teammate on the Los Angeles Clippers, DeAndre Jordan, believes that Redick <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoegBA8wGaI" rel="noopener">has the mental makeup</a> to thrive even though he’ll be sitting on the pressure cooker that is the Lakers bench.</p><p>“The Lakers’ job is a tough job in my opinion. They’re expected to win and hold everyone to a higher standard so they’re not gonna treat him like a first-year, first coaching experience head coach. It’s like no, you’re expected to come here and win and that’s it. But you know JJ went to Duke, had a lot of pressure his entire career, and defied a lot of odds. I think he’s up for the challenge,” Jordan said in an appearance on Podcast P with Paul George presented by Wave Sports + Entertainment.</p><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><p>Like in many other things, there simply is no telling when the perfect moment is. For JJ Redick, he was clearly interested in becoming a head coach, and when the opportunity arose for him, it was in his best interests to take the job — even though it will come with the outsized expectations of being the Lakers’ head coach. Jordan knows that Redick will have to be <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-jj-redicks-lebron-james-admission-la-coaching-hire">thrown to the fire</a> and hope that the pressure makes him a diamond of a leader on the bench.</p><p>“In my opinion, no head coach is ready to be a head coach when it’s that time. You get baptized by fire and just go with the flow. However, I do believe JJ is a smart guy, he knows the game, he’s knowledgeable and knows how to communicate with different players with different backgrounds and skill sets,” Jordan added. “I’m rooting for JJ. I hope he does well.”</p><p>At the end of the day, DeAndre Jordan, who has been with the Denver Nuggets for the past two seasons, has only one ask of JJ Redick when his Lakers take on the Nuggets.</p><p>“I just hope whenever they play the Nuggets he doesn’t succeed.”</p><h2><b>The Lakers’ cautionary Darvin Ham tale</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Lakers-star-LeBron-James-talks-with-Darvin-Ham.jpg"></figure><p>Darvin Ham’s two-year stint as the Lakers’ head coach quickly turned sour; Ham bought himself some goodwill with how he handled adversity in his first season, helping LA turn things around after their poor start to the 2022-23 campaign but in his second season, he became the most criticized figure in the Lakers franchise. Ham was guilty of some suboptimal rotation and tactical decisions, and his influence on the team <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-darvin-ham-immediate-lakers-future-serious-doubt">grew weaker and weaker</a> the deeper the 2023-24 season progressed.</p><p>Ham was also brought in by the Lakers as a first-time head coach, although he did have some considerable experience as an assistant coach before the team hired him to replace championship-winning coach Frank Vogel. For Paul George, the pressure that comes with the Lakers job is simply unlike any other; can JJ Redick withstand a tense media environment in Tinseltown, with every move, word, and decision of his being studied under the microscope?</p><p>“That’s pressure. You saw first time with Darvin Ham coaching and how things quickly went left and the Lakers fans jumped on him quick!” Paul George said during the most recent episode of his eponymous podcast.</p><h2>Will JJ Redick have a roster built for success?</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/LeBron-James-and-Anthony-Davis-high-fiving.jpg"></figure><p>LeBron James will be turning 40 years old soon. Anthony Davis is also creeping up into his 30s, as he’ll be 32 years of age by the time the 2025 playoffs roll around. The Lakers still have their work cut out for them if they were to improve their core from a solid playoff team to a legitimate championship contender.</p><p>They have a few players that they could <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-collin-sexton-named-as-possible-lakers-trade-target">dangle in trade talks</a> for another star, such as Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Gabe Vincent. They also have a few draft picks to add as sweeteners for any prospective trade. Well, maybe not in person.</p><p>Doc Rivers’ Bucks defeated James Harden and the Clippers on Sunday afternoon, a game in which Kawhi Leonard and Paul George sat out <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/clippers-news-kawhi-leonard-paul-george-troublesome-injury-vs-timberwolves" rel="noopener">due to injury management</a>. It did mark a return, however, for the coach who helped put the Clippers franchise on the map back in 2013.</p><p>From that point forward, the Clippers went on to four consecutive 51+ win seasons, something that had only been done once in franchise history (in the 2012-13 season under head coach Vinny Del Negro).</p><p>“I took the job and my number one goal was to make the Clippers a destination,” <a href="https://twitter.com/TomerAzarly/status/1767262401827930264" rel="noopener">Doc Rivers explained</a> to ClutchPoints over the weekend. “That was what we said. Make this place [a place you want to be]. I told this story, I wanted to cover up the Laker banners not because it was the Lakers, I just thought it was a Clipper game. Let’s be the Clippers. And then I wanted to retire a jersey. There was no jersey to retire. And so I looked at our guys and said, ‘we have to build a tradition here so there will be.'”</p><p>The team acquired Chris Paul, adding him to a roster with Rookie of the Year Blake Griffin and a rising DeAndre Jordan. Those three players led the ‘Lob City’ era of Clippers basketball for six highly entertaining seasons that made one of the worst franchises in NBA history must-see TV.</p><p>Bucks head coach Doc Rivers believes all three of those former stars should have their jerseys retired with the Clippers when it’s all said and done.</p><p>“I think there will be jerseys coming forward. I think Blake. I think DJ, 100% should be. And I think Chris Paul.
