Perhaps no other player in the last two decades brought this kind of excitement like the Denver Nuggets’ DeAndre Jordan, who used to posterize people on a daily basis with the Los Angeles Clippers. Even the Memphis Grizzlies’ Tony Allen, one of the toughest defenders of his era, faced the full force of a DeAndre Jordan poster.</p><p>In a recent appearance on The Chris Vernon Show, Allen put up Jordan dunking on him in the playoffs as the best dunk he’d ever seen.</p><p>“I’m trying to do All-Team Defense,” the Grizzlies swingman said, while watching the replay. “‘Cause it was supposed to be my tag–I’m supposed to come over there and tagged, right? And I got over there just a little too late, and man, Chris Paul looked out the way and threw that MF like that. I said, ‘Oh my God.’ That’s when I knew. With Marc Gasol protecting the paint and Tony Allen on the perimeter, no one wanted to play the Grizz at their peak.</p><p>Still, defense has its consequences, one of them is another player putting you on a poster, like DeAndre Jordan dunking on Tony Allen. However, the Grindfather obviously knows that it’s just part of playing hard-nosed defense.</p><p>Allen was part of the 2008 Boston Celtics squad whose defense carried them to the championship. Despite being a relatively smaller guard, Allen’s tenacious defense <a href="https://www.statmuse.com/nba/player/tony-allen-54/bio" rel="noopener">earned selections</a> to three All-Defense first teams and three All-Defense second teams.</p><h2><b>Return to prominence</b></h2><p>While the Grit and Grind era is over, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/grading-the-bonkers-celtics-wizards-grizzlies-trade-featuring-kristaps-porzingis-marcus-smart">Grizzlies added Marcus Smart</a>, another former Celtic known for his defensive acumen. However, unlike Allen, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/celtics-news-what-marcus-smart-dpoy-win-means-for-his-career-per-jaylen-brown">Smart won Defensive Player of the Year</a>. Despite injuries cutting his first season short, he should add veteran stability and leadership to a young team whose brashness at times seemed to outweigh their talent.</p><p>The Grizzlies are in transition, too. Losing noted trash-talker <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/rockets-news-dillon-brooks-free-agency-4-year-80-million-contract">Dillon Brooks to the Houston Rockets</a> and adding Smart in exchange signals a welcome change. Moreover, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/grizzlies-news-ja-morant-25-game-suspension-latest-ig-live-gun-incident">Ja Morant’s hefty suspension</a> and recovery from injury should light a fire under him to prove why he’s still one of the best point guards in the league.</p><p>Look for them to enter the 2024-2025 campaign with more maturity and grit, a bit like the predecessors.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Chris Paul said some things <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/clippers-news-chris-paul-clipped-show">did not happen</a> that were included in the show. Jamal Crawford and JJ Redick also <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/clippers-news-jj-redick-jamal-crawford-fx-clipped">recently reacted to the new show</a>. DeAndre Jordan has yet to watch Clipped, however.</p><p>Jordan began his NBA career with the Clippers in 2008. He would play with the team through the 2017-18 season. Jordan established a reputation as one of the better all-around centers in the league. Blake Griffin and Jordan led the “Lob City” era as Chris Paul consistently tossed the star big men alley-oops which led to memorable highlights.</p><p>So why hasn’t Jordan watch Clipped yet? For those who may not be aware, the show focuses on the “Lob City” era Clippers when Donald Sterling was still the owner. It takes a look at Sterling’s unsettling controversies and how they impacted the team.</p><p>“Shout out to those people for putting that on. That’s awesome, its entertaining,” Jordan <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoegBA8wGaI" rel="noopener">said during a recent appearance</a> on Podcast P with Paul George presented by Wave Sports + Entertainment. “However, I had nothing to do with that. I don’t think any of my teammates had anything to do with that. I think the best part they got was Matt [Barnes] and Ed O’Neil is embodying Sterling in a way that’s kind of funny. I haven’t seen the show yet, only snippets and clips of what people have sent me…Where’s my camera at?</p><p>“I have never in my life had a cosmopolitan drink but it’s depicted in the show that I like those drinks. I mean, I may try one now, but I’m more of a tequila wine guy.”</p><h2><b>DeAndre Jordan’s painfully honest reason for not watching Clipped</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/DeAndre-Jordan-during-Clippers-Nuggets-game.jpg"><figcaption>Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>George then asked Jordan why the former Clippers star has not watched any episodes of the show.</p><p>“Because I don’t know how realistic it was gonna be because I know it hadn’t gone through any of my former teammates,” Jordan said. “So I’m like, well if you aren’t getting stories from them, where are the stories coming from? I’m sure it’s loosely based off of some things that have happened but entertainment sells so it’s [shrugs]…I mean we text about it for sure, like we talk about it like the practice scene when Doc is going crazy on guys.</p><p>“Don’t get it twisted Doc was on guys but some of the things he said on there were absolutely false…I love Matt Barnes and Doc, You think if Doc said what he said in the show to Matt Barnes there wouldn’t have been a fistfight on the court?”</p><p>DeAndre Jordan acknowledged that it is for entertainment purposes and knows that draws attention. That does not mean he is interested in watching it. After all, he referred to one scene as “absolutely false” and Jordan has only seen clips from the show.</p><p>The Clippers featured no shortage of potential but failed to win a championship. They had one of the greatest core of players ever to never win a championship. It is interesting that DeAndre Jordan and Paul George discussed the show, as George is of course now playing for the Clippers.</p><p>George’s Clippers are also talented but they have continued to fall short in the postseason. Rumors are currently swirling about his <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sources-paul-george-klay-thompson-offseason-rumors">potential departure this offseason</a>.</p><p>As for Jordan, it doesn’t seem likely that he will be watching Clipped anytime soon.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Redick has been the frontrunner throughout the Lakers’ coaching process search aside from that two-week period in which the team reportedly <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-jj-redick-true-feelings-dan-hurley-pursuit-before-hiring">pulled out all the stops</a> to bring in UConn’s Dan Hurley, and now, the Purple and Gold have their man.</p><p>There is simply no telling how successful Redick will be; as highly-regarded his knowledge of the game may be, there is no greater teacher than experience, and this Lakers job isn’t just his first head coaching gig in the NBA, it is the first of his career. Nonetheless, Redick’s former teammate on the Los Angeles Clippers, DeAndre Jordan, believes that Redick <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoegBA8wGaI" rel="noopener">has the mental makeup</a> to thrive even though he’ll be sitting on the pressure cooker that is the Lakers bench.</p><p>“The Lakers’ job is a tough job in my opinion. They’re expected to win and hold everyone to a higher standard so they’re not gonna treat him like a first-year, first coaching experience head coach. It’s like no, you’re expected to come here and win and that’s it. But you know JJ went to Duke, had a lot of pressure his entire career, and defied a lot of odds. I think he’s up for the challenge,” Jordan said in an appearance on Podcast P with Paul George presented by Wave Sports + Entertainment.</p><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><p>Like in many other things, there simply is no telling when the perfect moment is. For JJ Redick, he was clearly interested in becoming a head coach, and when the opportunity arose for him, it was in his best interests to take the job — even though it will come with the outsized expectations of being the Lakers’ head coach. Jordan knows that Redick will have to be <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-jj-redicks-lebron-james-admission-la-coaching-hire">thrown to the fire</a> and hope that the pressure makes him a diamond of a leader on the bench.</p><p>“In my opinion, no head coach is ready to be a head coach when it’s that time. You get baptized by fire and just go with the flow. However, I do believe JJ is a smart guy, he knows the game, he’s knowledgeable and knows how to communicate with different players with different backgrounds and skill sets,” Jordan added. “I’m rooting for JJ. Well, maybe not in person.</p><p>Doc Rivers’ Bucks defeated James Harden and the Clippers on Sunday afternoon, a game in which Kawhi Leonard and Paul George sat out <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/clippers-news-kawhi-leonard-paul-george-troublesome-injury-vs-timberwolves" rel="noopener">due to injury management</a>. It did mark a return, however, for the coach who helped put the Clippers franchise on the map back in 2013.</p><p>From that point forward, the Clippers went on to four consecutive 51+ win seasons, something that had only been done once in franchise history (in the 2012-13 season under head coach Vinny Del Negro).</p><p>“I took the job and my number one goal was to make the Clippers a destination,” <a href="https://twitter.com/TomerAzarly/status/1767262401827930264" rel="noopener">Doc Rivers explained</a> to ClutchPoints over the weekend. “That was what we said. Those three players led the ‘Lob City’ era of Clippers basketball for six highly entertaining seasons that made one of the worst franchises in NBA history must-see TV.</p><p>Bucks head coach Doc Rivers believes all three of those former stars should have their jerseys retired with the Clippers when it’s all said and done.</p><p>“I think there will be jerseys coming forward. The bulk of that money as earned with the Los Angeles Clippers.</p><p>There was a time when Jordan was among the most coveted names in free agency. The Clippers famously prevented Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks from luring him away from LA. Former Los Angeles Clippers center DeAndre Jordan is hoping the NBA championship will finally be his after eluding him for multiple seasons.</p><p>Jordan has played 15 seasons in the NBA and has had a number of postseasons cut short just when his teams appeared to be serious championship contenders. After falling short with the L.A. Clippers and Brooklyn Nets, Jordan isn’t taking any of this NBA Finals experience for granted.</p><p>“It’s <a href="https://twitter.com/TomerAzarly/status/1665247741998497792?s=20" rel="noopener">surreal and it’s exciting</a>,” Jordan told ClutchPoints in an exclusive interview Saturday. “It’s humbling to be in this position. I’ve had situations at times where I thought, ‘hey, this is the year. This is the year.’ We just got a little bad luck whether it be injuries or whatever, and we ended up coming up short.</p><p>“But just now to be able to be on the last two teams standings and fighting for a trophy, it’s an amazing feeling. And after winning Game 1, you feel even better. But we’re not satisfied. We’ll be satisfied once we win three more games. It’s gonna be a battle. It’s gonna be tough, but it’s the Finals. It’s supposed to be.”</p><p>Jordan played sparingly for the Nuggets in this 2022-23 season but has taken on a very serious and respected role as a veteran and leader in the locker room. In a recent story written by Denver Nuggets beat writer Mike Singer, it became increasingly clear DeAndre Jordan and Jeff Green have become staples in the locker room and guys that have gotten superstar Nikola Jokic to open up even more.</p><p>“Nikola has a <a href="https://www.denverpost.com/2023/06/01/nikola-jokic-nuggets-voice-nba-finals/" rel="noopener">lead-by-example kind of voice</a>,” Jordan told the Denver Post. “I always compare that to a guy like Tim Duncan. He doesn’t really want to ruffle feathers or use his superstar status.”</p><p>Over the last several weeks, Clippers fans have been incredibly supportive of both Reggie Jackson and DeAndre Jordan. Both of those players played significant roles in their respective teams’ successes with the Clippers, and fans beloved both players for their fun personalities and hard-working attitudes.</p><p>When told that there were a number of Clippers fans cheering for the Nuggets because of Reggie Jackson and himself, a smile from ear to ear appeared on Jordan’s face.</p><p>“Ahh, that’s so cool. I love that,” Jordan said. “I got nothing but love for the Clippers, man. It was my home for the first 10 years of my career. I got a lot of relationships. I’ve done a lot of great things in the organization there. And the community is one that I love and one that I still call home. I would love to win a championship for sure, and I appreciate all the support they’re still giving me.”</p><p>Jordan played his first 10 seasons with the Clippers after L.A. picked him 35th overall in the 2007 NBA Draft. He played sparingly in his first two seasons but really made a jump in his third season. He would go on to become an NBA All-Star in the 2016-17 season. He averaged 12.7 points, 13.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.7 blocks per game for the Clippers.</p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Denver-adds-DeAndre-Jordan-to-back-up-Nikola-Jokic.jpg"></figure><p>DeAndre Jordan’s best chances at an NBA championship were likely in 2015, when the Clippers blew a 3-1 lead to the Houston Rockets, and in 2021, when the Brooklyn Nets nearly defeated the Milwaukee Bucks to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. In fact, if Durant’s shoe was one size smaller, the Nets likely win that round and reach the NBA Finals. In both of those Clippers and Nets playoff runs, injuries played a significant role in the team’s downfall.</p><p>Despite the shortcomings, his 10 years in Los Angeles taught a 20-year-old unseasoned Jordan how to play the game the right way and develop the skills necessary to turn him into a two-time All-Defensive team member, a three-time All-NBA team member, and a two-time rebounding champion.</p><p>“Obviously with teams with Chris, Blake, and myself, those are the times I feel like we all started to excel, and our games got better. We studied the games. We worked more on and off the floor to be successful. Still, Jordan is an effective center off the bench, who can make an impact in the paint on both ends of the floor when given an opportunity to do so.</p><p>The latest team willing to give Jordan a shot is the Denver Nuggets, who have <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nuggets-news-denver-adds-deandre-jordan-to-back-up-nikola-jokic/">brought Jordan in</a> to backup their star center Nikola Jokic. It wasn’t long ago that Jordan was the star center himself, and it’s been interesting to see the role reversal for Jordan, who was one of the most dominant centers in the league during his prime.</p><p>Jordan doesn’t appear to be too bothered by the decrease in his role with the Nuggets. In fact, it sounds like he’s embracing the opportunity to play behind Jokic, which should be good news for Denver, as they have been desperately looking to get Jokic as much help as they possibly can this offseason.</p><p>“Obviously everybody knows that Nikola is the head of the snake. He signed with the Los Angeles Lakers on a free agent contract ahead of the season, and he wound up being waived in March.</p><p>The Philadelphia 76ers then decided to sign Jordan ahead of the start of the NBA playoffs to bolster their depth at the center position. He featured in three total games in the 76ers’ playoff run, as head coach Doc Rivers leaned toward small-ball lineups over the opening two rounds.</p><p>Jordan is currently slated to be Jokic’s main backup at center, which comes following a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sports/nba/denver-nuggets/" rel="noopener">season</a> where the likes of DeMarcus Cousins and JaMychal Green were slotted into this role.
