DeMarcus Cousins currently inactive. To be clear, however, he is not retired. He is simply without a team at the moment.
Born on August 13, 1990 in Mobile, Alabama, he is listed at 6' 10" and weighs 270 lbs.
Cousins went to high school at LeFlore Magnet (AL). One of the very top recruits in the country, DeMarcus Cousins then committed to play for John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats. In college, he absolutely dominated the competition, a man clearly playing among boys.
His amazing play resulted in an easy decision for the Sacramento Kings, who selected Cousins with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft.
Early in his career, Cousins was characterized as a bit of a hot head. That, unfortunately, resulted in rather lazy narratives about him as a person. Over the course of his career, though, Cousins has proven to be a fine person off and on the hardwood.
Injuries certainly set him back a bit, but he was a legitimate superstar for a brief period of time before those injuries limited his potential to continue to grow. Still, he’s remained a productive player for any NBA team that chooses to use him.
During his NBA career, he also played 7 seasons with the Sacramento Kings, and 2 seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans and 1 season with the Golden State Warriors.
