Booker could be getting a deal that is worth $150 million.</p><p>“Sources: Phoenix Suns and franchise player Devin Booker are in talks on a contract extension,” Chris Haynes said in a post. “Booker is eligible for a two-year, $150 million max extension.”</p><p>Devin Booker was a standout player at Kentucky in college, and the Suns selected him with the 13th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. Booker was an immediate impact player, and he quickly became one of the best players in the entire NBA. The Suns want him to stay in Phoenix for a long time.</p><p>So far in his career, Booker has averaged less than 20 points per game just once, and it was his rookie season. The last time that he averaged under 25 PPG was the 2017-18 season. He is a star, but the Suns haven’t been able to win big with him yet. They have made it to the NBA Finals, but now they are stuck in the mud a bit after failing to make the postseason. Phoenix has a lot of work to do, and keeping Devin Booker around for a long time is on the team’s agenda.</p><h2><b>Suns sign Euroleague champ to one-year deal</b></h2><p>In other news for the Suns, the team picked up an <a href="https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/1939845191944266020" rel="noopener">intriguing addition</a> by signing Euroleague Turkish Cup champion Nigel Hayes-Davis to a one-year deal. Hayes-Davis spent his college days playing at Wisconsin, and he has played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Toronto Raptors and Sacramento Kings. He hasn’t played in the NBA since 2018.</p><p>“Fenerbahce’s Nigel Hayes-Davis – the 2025 Euroleague champion and finals MVP as well as Turkish Cup champion and MVP – has agreed to a fully guaranteed one-year contract with the Phoenix Suns, sources tell ESPN,” Shams Charania said in a post. “The two-time Euroleague first-teamer returns to the States and NBA. Injuries played a part in that, but the roster and specifically the core of Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal did not work well together.</p><p>Now, head coach Mike Budenholzer is out and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/suns-hire-cavs-jordan-ott-as-new-head-coach">Jordan Ott is in as the new man in charge</a> on the end of the bench, and now the Suns are shaking up the roster as well. Durant seems to be on the way out as the Suns try to find a trade partner for the former league MVP, and the team will move forward around Booker.</p><p>That will likely include a new contract for the 28-year old. He still has three years left on his current deal, but the Suns can secure him for even longer than that and <a href="https://marcstein.substack.com/p/the-kevin-durant-trade-landscape?utm_source=post-email-title&amp;publication_id=392205&amp;post_id=165371293&amp;utm_campaign=email-post-title&amp;isFreemail=false&amp;r=39f60&amp;triedRedirect=true&amp;utm_medium=email" rel="noopener">plan to do so</a> this offseason, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.</p><p>“Devin Booker becomes eligible for a two-year, $150 million contract extension on July 6 that the 28-year-old is widely expected to secure,” Fischer wrote.</p><p>Securing Booker long-term will be the first priority for the Suns as they look to build around their homegrown star and have him lead them back into contention in the West. Once that order of business is done, Phoenix can start looking at how else to improve the roster moving forward.</p><p>In addition to moving on from Durant, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/suns-rumors-insider-declares-phoenix-100-done-with-bradley-beal">moving on from Beal will be high on the priority list</a> for the Suns, though that will be easier said than done. Beal is on a big contract, has a no-trade clause and tanked his trade value with a very disappointing season in 2024-25.</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-rumors-twist-suns-kevin-durant-trade-talks">return in a Durant trade</a> will go a long way toward determining what the Suns will be able to do over the next year or two, so they will be looking for a lucrative package of players and picks to come back to Phoenix. During his first five years, the Suns struggled to find the right pieces around the 28-year-old, and Booker didn’t make his playoff debut until his sixth season.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/phoenix-suns/suns-rumors-how-coaching-search-shutting-down-devin-booker-trade-speculation">Booker helped lead the Suns</a> to the playoffs four seasons in a row, but the team’s recent roster overhaul has hurt their competitiveness. Despite having big names like Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal, Phoenix has failed to regain the momentum it found in 2021—Booker’s postseason debut—when he teamed up with Chris Paul, Deandre Ayton, and head coach Monty Williams.</p><p>Major changes are expected for the Suns this offseason, and with that in mind, ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins weighed in on Devin Booker’s future with the team.</p><p>“He’s just starting his prime. His prime has been activated. Rebilas-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>After missing the playoffs in the 2024-25 season, the Phoenix Suns fired head coach Mike Budenholzer and wrapped up their coaching search by hiring former Cleveland Cavaliers assistant Jordan Ott on Wednesday, per ESPN’s Shams Charania. Ott becomes the team’s fourth head coach in four years, and his hiring has drawn some criticism due to his ties to team owner Mat Ishbia’s alma mater, Michigan State.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/phoenix-suns/suns-hire-cavs-jordan-ott-as-new-head-coach">Ott will be the eighth head coach Devin Booker</a> has played under in his NBA career.</p><p>“But if he comes to a place where he’s okay with being, and not leveling up to go to an organization where you can actually can compete for a championship and you’re ready to just stay there for another rebuild, I got a problem with that,” Perkins continued.</p><p>One detail that emerged during the Suns’ coaching search was Devin Booker’s involvement in the decision-making process. With the franchise likely to part ways with Kevin Durant this offseason, it made sense for the front office to prioritize Booker’s input as they aim to rebuild a contender around him.</p><p>However, Booker’s approval of the hire could have consequences for everyone involved. It’s reasonable to withhold judgment on Ott’s coaching skills—given that many insiders respect his offensive and defensive expertise—but if the experiment fails, the responsibility won’t rest just with management. Booker will bear significant accountability for the outcome as well.</p><p>As the Suns prepare to trade Kevin Durant, the returns from the deal will shape the franchise’s future. Meanwhile, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/dallas-mavericks/mavericks-rumors-cooper-flagg-vs-trade-decision-already-made">Dallas Mavericks have indicated they will draft Cooper Flagg</a> with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.</p><p>However, what if they don’t draft him? What if Dallas trades Flagg for a win-now player? This is where Booker could come into the fold.</p><p>According to ESPN, they proposed <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/45425353/potential-trades-top-2025-nba-draft-pick-cooper-flagg-dallas-mavericks" rel="noopener">an exact scenario</a> involving the two superstars, as reported by NBA Insider Andre Snellings.</p><p>Mavericks: Devin Booker, 2025 first-rounder (No. 29), 2028 first-rounder (least favorable of own, Knicks and Wizards), 2029 first-round pick swap (least favorable of Cavs, Timberwolves and Jazz).</p><p>Suns get: 2025 No. 1 pick, Klay Thompson, P.J. Washington, Naji Marshall, and Caleb Martin.</p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/ESPN-suggests-Spurs-Mavericks-Cooper-Flagg-trade.jpg"><figcaption>© Robert Deutsch-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><h2><b>The Suns and Mavericks would go in two different directions</b></h2><p>If this trade were to pass, it would signal two different outcomes for the respective teams. Although the Suns wouldn’t have any remaining draft capital, they could luck out with Flagg.</p><p>He’s one of the most highly touted prospects to come out of the NCAA ranks the game has seen in a long time. The <a href="https://www.dallasnews.com/sports/mavericks/2025/05/27/ahead-of-nba-draft-mavs-jason-kidd-says-hes-impressed-by-these-cooper-flagg-traits/" rel="noopener">versatility, defense, all-around offensive game</a>, and the chip on his shoulder are exceptional.</p><p>After all, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ncaa-basketball/duke-basketball-news-cooper-flagg-takes-home-massive-award">Flagg took home the AP Player of the Year</a> as a freshman at Duke. He also took home numerous accolades, such as the ACC Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year, respectively.</p><p>Meanwhile, he led Duke basketball to a Final Four. Although Houston had the upper hand, it was impressive what Flagg did.</p><p>On the flip side, the Mavericks would invest everything into winning a championship in the 2025-26 season. On a team with Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving, the current Suns all-time franchise scorer fits perfectly into their age range.</p><p>Booker is 28, with Davis being 32 and Irving being 33. Not to mention, the latter is recovering from a torn ACL and will miss a majority, if not the entirety, of the season.</p><p>Still, the former Kentucky sixth man brings a much-needed scoring presence on the wing. His pick-and-roll game, mid-range, and overall basketball acumen are telling signs of what Dallas wants.</p><p>However, as Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison has said, he wants defense. Booker’s defense has improved greatly, but it might not be enough to convince Harrison to make a move.</p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Devin-Booker-cover.jpg"></figure><h2><b>How would Devin Booker or Cooper Flagg feel about a trade?</b></h2><p>For starters, Flagg has reportedly shown interest in going anywhere. Being the No. 1 pick, there isn’t much of a choice. Despite that, though, the Duke basketball star can be the face of any franchise.</p><p>Considering that Harrison broke his trust with the Mavericks fanbase, he might be able to salvage it by drafting Flagg. If he is drafted, that would be good for him. If not, it wouldn’t matter.</p><p>No matter what, Flagg would have a chance to play in meaningful games with Dallas. On the flip side, the same might or might not be said for Phoenix.</p><p>They have key young pieces like Collin Gillespie, Oso Ighodaro, and Ryan Dunn. However, with a <a href="https://arizonasports.com/nba/phoenix-suns/suns-nba-draft-picks/3569834/" rel="noopener">lack of draft capital</a> and star power, it might not be enticing.</p><p>Again, Flagg being a part of the Suns would do wonders for him and the fan base. Years of flopped expectations could be rejuvenated, and it can give the fanbase something exciting to look forward to.</p><p>Going back to Booker, he would be opposed to leaving Phoenix. Whenever he’s been asked about the subject, he’s expressed a strong desire to stay in the Valley of the Sun.</p><p>He and Suns owner Mat Ishbia <a href="https://motorcyclesports.net/mat-ishbia-declares-unwavering-commitment-to-devin-booker-as-phoenix-suns-reshape-future-together/" rel="noopener">share the same sentiment</a>. Still, the NBA is a business, and Ishbia cares about winning as much as Booker.</p><p>Does that mean trading Booker? Still, swapping one franchise player for another isn’t ideal if it doesn’t have to happen.</p><p>Booker’s emotional pull could send Phoenix into an uproar if he was traded.
