The team is looking to return to the playoffs after missing out last year, and adding new weapons was imperative this offseason.</p><p>Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot noted that several undrafted free agents made Cleveland’s 53-man lineup, including a certain “Donovan Mitchell.” The honest mistake didn’t escape the Cavaliers star, who <a href="https://x.com/spidadmitchell/status/1960427223124729997" rel="noopener">posted a hilarious reaction</a>.</p><p>“Let’s get it @Browns,” wrote Mitchell on X, adding two laughing emojis.</p><p>Cabot promptly <a href="https://x.com/MaryKayCabot/status/1960487599451123979" rel="noopener">corrected her little error</a> with a lighthearted reply. </p><p>“Sorry @spidadmitchell! Donovan just always automatically ends with Mitchell in my mind! It’s Donovan McMillon who made the Browns as an UDFA (but they’d probably love to have you too!),” said the Cavaliers insider.</p><p>Muscle memory much?</p><p>The 23-year-old McMillon is expected to be the backup safety on the Browns, who signed him in April. He went undrafted in this year’s draft after a stellar senior year at Pittsburgh, wherein he was named to the All-ACC Second Team. </p><p>As for the 28-year-old Mitchell, he will be cheering for the Browns when the NFL kicks off next month. <a href="https://cavsnation.com/news/cavs-rumors-donovan-mitchell-loves-cleveland">He has ingrained himself in Cleveland</a> since joining the Cavaliers in 2022.</p><p>The six-time All-Star has been an integral piece in the Cavaliers’ success in recent years. Last season, he led them to the top seed in the Eastern Conference with a 66-18 record, which was second-best in team history. He averaged 24.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.3 steals. They, however, lost to the Indiana Pacers in the second round of the playoffs.</p><p>Prior to Mitchell’s arrival, the Wine and Gold missed the playoffs for four straight years.</p><p>He vowed to bounce back this season after their sorry exit. At the time, he had received offers from the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, and Boston Red Sox. </p><p>Currently, Soto is batting .251 with 110 hits, 31 home runs, and 72 RBIs. Meanwhile, the Mets are 67-58 and in the heat of a playoff race. </p><p>As for Mitchell, he is entering his 8th season in the NBA with the Cavaliers. At the same time, Hart is set to begin his second year with the Knicks. </p><h2><b>The fandom of Juan Soto by Donovan Mitchell</b></h2><p>Mitchell is a huge fan of Soto as well as the Mets. When he was younger, his father worked for the organization, and Donovan was the bat boy at one point. </p><p>As a result, he has become a frequent presence at Mets games. His fandom of Soto was significantly expanded. He <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/new-york-mets/mets-news-donovan-mitchell-interaction-mets-juan-soto-goes-viral" rel="noopener">FaceTimed Soto after he signed the historic contract</a> in December. </p><p>As far as the NBA goes, Soto’s deal has been compared to the likes of NBA players such as Steph Curry and Jayson Tatum, who each signed historic, lucrative contracts. New York has quite the talent pool, both on the hardwood and the diamond. </p><p>Soto’s rise coincides with that of Hart, Jalen Brunson, and Karl-Anthony Towns, who led the Knicks to the Eastern Conference Finals. Moreover, <a href="https://cavsnation.com/news/cavs-news-why-donovan-mitchell-blames-himself-tyrese-haliburton-game-winner" rel="noopener">Mitchell definitely has a big chip on his shoulder</a> heading into the 2025-26 season after his beloved Cleveland Cavaliers’ 64-win season ended with a whimper in the second round of the playoffs against the Indiana Pacers.</p><p>But Mitchell is definitely planning for his future beyond the sport of basketball. He’s not going to be an NBA superstar forever, after all. But the Cavs star is <a href="https://twitter.com/mlb/status/1957876277827997825" rel="noopener">being very ambitious</a> with his plans for his life after his NBA career — with perhaps his jersey number of 45 being a sign of his Michael Jordan-esque plans.</p><p>“I will say, at some point I will try to be [Francisco Lindor] when I’m done playing [basketball]. The Cavs star is an explosive leaper, a very agile guard, and his first step is incredible, allowing him to knife through the lane and get through even the best defenders in the NBA.</p><p>However, playing in the MLB and actually being at the level Lindor is at is another issue entirely. The Mets shortstop is a five-time All-Star and he has a career OPS of .815 all while playing Gold Glove-caliber defense at one of the most important infield positions.</p><p>But the Cavs star is nothing if not confident, and it would already be a huge win if he ends up with a minor-league career better than that of Jordan’s.</p><h2><b>Donovan Mitchell and the Cavs prepare for revenge season</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.cavsnation.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Donovan-Mitchell_51380a.jpg"><figcaption>David Richard-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Everyone and their mother is down on the Cavs heading into next season, which is understandable, considering how Cleveland disappointed in the playoffs for the third consecutive season.</p><p>But most championship teams tend to experience heartbreak before they break through in the grand stage. Even Jordan and his Chicago Bulls had to be humbled multiple times by the Bad Boys Detroit Pistons. The MLB Network has its share of blackouts, mainly for two reasons. </p><p>One approach is to give local broadcasters greater leverage in carrying the games. Second, it is a way to incentivize attendance at the ballpark. As a result, some games aren’t broadcast live on the MLB Network. </p><p>When it comes to the Mets, their games are featured on SportsNet New York (SNY). To watch games, fans must sign up for an SNY TV package. </p><p>Furthermore, they can authenticate their SNY subscription on MLB.TV. Also, blackouts generally don’t occur on the MLB Network during the postseason. </p><h2><b>Donovan Mitchell’s fandom of the Mets</b></h2><p>It turns out, Mitchell’s connection to the Mets is <a href="https://www.mlb.com/news/donovan-mitchell-baseball-connection-through-father" rel="noopener">through family</a>. His father, Donovan Mitchell Sr., worked in the Mets organization in the 1990s. </p><p>During that time, he was a minor league player before becoming the director of player relations.  As a result, Mitchell was present in the Mets’ clubhouse as a kid and was the bat boy at one point.</p><p>Since then, Mitchell has become a prominent Mets fan. The post quickly garnered congratulatory messages from athletes and celebrities, including Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown, Chicago Sky star Angel Reese, singer-songwriter Ciara, and rapper Lady London, among others.</p><p>The next few months, coinciding with the new NBA season, will be quite busy for Mitchell as he will help his fiancee with wedding preparations. Fans couldn’t help but gush about the next step in their relationship, which reportedly started two years ago.</p><p>“Coco Jones has one of the craziest face cards I have ever seen,” posted a fan on X.</p><p>It <a href="https://x.com/spidadmitchell/status/1945221973157486945" rel="noopener">elicited a curt response</a> from the Cavaliers guard: “I swear.”</p><p>Give him the MVP trophy already.</p><p>The 28-year-old Cavaliers star and the 27-year-old Jones have largely kept their romance under wraps prior to their engagement. In February, the Grammy Award-winning artist noted that <a href="https://people.com/coco-jones-donovan-mitchell-engagement-11770857">she values her privacy</a> amid all the “little spies everywhere.”</p><p>“But you know what, I’m happy. Before they go on that run, Donovan Mitchell had locked it in with the love of his life, Coco Jones. The famous R&amp;B singer <a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1943773281829687708" rel="noopener">posted a picture</a> on Instagram of herself and Mitchell, with an engagement ring on her finger.</p><p>The two had kept their relationship private over the years, but there were always hints that they were dating. Now that the engagement is official, the world knows that the two are together, and they’ll be together for till death do them part.</p><p>In an article from People magazine, <a href="https://people.com/coco-jones-donovan-mitchell-engagement-11770857" rel="noopener">reps from the couple</a> said, “After an amazing season and a sold-out tour, Donovan Mitchell and Coco Jones took a moment to recharge on vacation, which turned it into a beautiful engagement.”</p><p>Mitchell and Jones will cherish this moment for the rest of the season, and then the Cavs guard will probably get back to work as he looks to lead the Cavs through the Eastern Conference.</p><p>Last season, the Cavs were the No. 1 seed in the East throughout the whole year, and it was their strong play on both sides of the ball that led them to a historic season. Unfortunately, they were not able to bring that strong play into the playoffs, as they were eliminated in the second round by the Indiana Pacers.</p><p>The Cavs were able to bring back most of their same squad from last season, and also <a href="https://cavsnation.com/news/cavs-news-lonzo-ball-great-situation-bulls-trade">added Lonzo Ball</a> after trading Issac Okoro to the Chicago Bulls. With the current landscape of the Eastern Conference, it would not be a surprise if the Cavs were back at the top again.</p><p>Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland were a dynamic backcourt who could score at will, while Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen held things down in the frontcourt. After all, his father, Donovan Mitchell Sr. has been connected to professional baseball since the early 1990s.</p><p>So, when the Mets and the New York Yankees started a three-game series at Citi Field on Friday, there was zero doubt about which side the high-flying Cavs guard was going to cheer for. He even <a href="https://x.com/spidadmitchell/status/1941626636811534349" rel="noopener">took a hilarious shot</a> at New York Knicks guard Josh Hart over a take the latter made as the two New York baseball clubs were going at it on Saturday night.</p><p>As the Yankees were down by several runs in the game, Hart shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) saying, “Just so yall know…its a Yankee city.”</p><p>Mitchell saw that post and retweeted it with the following caption: “Saying this down 6 is funny 😂 #LFGM”</p><p>The Mets made loud noises in the game early, as they finished the first inning with a 4-0 lead, thanks to a huge grand slam home run by Brandon Nimmo. That was also Nimmo’s second grand slam homer in four days. The Mets’ offensive outburst in the opening inning set the tone for the rest of the game.</p><p>Pete Alonso pummeled the Yankees with a spectacular performance at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two home runs, five RBIs, three runs and a walk. Yankees starter Carlos Rodon was clobbered right out of the gate by the Mets, as he gave up six earned runs on five hits through five innings of work. It did not get much better for the Yankees when Rodon left the mound, as their bullpen was charged for five more runs.</p><p>Mitchell has plenty of time to catch up on what’s going on with the Mets, with the Cavs and the NBA still in the offseason. He must be loving how Alonso and company are performing, especially of late. With their win on Saturday, the Mets can sweep the Yankees in the finale of the three-game series this Sunday. The Mets have also extended their win streak to four game while improving to 52-38 — good for second in the National League East division standings.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

We do it differently. We do it with Evan, we do it with myself, we do it with DG, we do it with Max, we do it with Jay, all the guys on the roster, and it’s just different,” Mitchell said. “I think it’s something that people talk about, it’s something that I think is great for the city, by all means. And obviously we have a picture of the parade and we want to put understanding that hey, like you know, we want to do it our own way while still having respect for what was done for the city.”</p><p>Because the 2016 Cavs was the first and only team to secure an NBA title, Mitchell understands why fans like to compare the two teams, but is adamant in his opinion on how the two eras differ from one another.</p><p>“There’s always that comparison, and there’s always going to be that comparison because there is only one other time, but I think we’re all comfortable. For Mitchell, a deep playoff run was imminent after a historic regular season. However, injuries to All-Stars Darius Garland and Evan Mobley hindered a promising campaign. Then, Mitchell suffered a left ankle sprain during Game 4 against the Pacers.</p><p>Mitchell <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5ftvyXI5_4&amp;t=569s" rel="noopener">shared his mindset</a> heading into Game 5, per Bleacher Report’s Taylor Rooks X.</p><p>“You do everything for the season. I’m not in my brain, there’s no way I’m letting this hinder or affect me from not stepping out on the floor,” Mitchell said. “I take what comes with it. I’m very thankful that nothing came out of that. But that’s kind of my process, like you’re going to have to drag me off the floor. Does it change a little bit after seeing these things happen?</p><p>“Maybe, possibly, I think it’s hard for me to say that because I may be in a moment, I may be fighting the doctors and team doctors to get out there, but I think right now, seeing that it’s tough,” Mitchell concluded.</p><p>After watching Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton play through a calf injury in Game 6 before suffering an Achilles’ injury, Mitchell pointed to that as an example of a player’s determination to play through the pain. Like he did, trying to keep the Cavs’ season alive in Game 5.</p><p>“Tyrese made it to Game 7 of the Finals,” Mitchell said. “I think you ask any guy in the league, Jamal [Murray] played last year through a calf strain, there’s guys that have done it. However, Bailey was seemingly <a href="https://www.espn.in/nba/story/_/id/45586394/jazz-ace-bailey-preferred-landing-spots" rel="noopener">moved to tears</a> after Utah selected him, even claiming that he didn’t have any idea they wanted to select him, per ESPN.</p><p>Now, former NBA All-Star Jeff Teague <a href="https://youtu.be/u-3cV4MhMNE?t=1136" rel="noopener">has dropped a stellar piece of advice</a> for the 18-year-old. Bailey had named the likes of the Washington Wizards, New Orleans Pelicans and the Brooklyn Nets as his preferred landing spots, teams on which he believed he could immediately be the main star.</p><p>“When you make it to the NBA, the biggest thing is they have banks in every city. So you’re going to be able to go to the bank. You’re going to get to have fun. </p><p>“You’re not there that long; you’re there for six or seven months at most; you’re going to go home. You’ll be back in Atlanta or Miami very soon. Go ahead and get your game right, hoop, play, and it’s probably the best for you bro,” Teague said on Club 520 podcast.</p><h2><b>Jeff Teague compares Ace Bailey to former Jazz player Donovan Mitchell</b></h2><p>Teague then took up the example of Donovan Mitchell, who spent five seasons in Utah before moving to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The former Hawks guard believes that Bailey has everything he needs to emulate what Mitchell did.</p><p>“Do what Donovan Mitchell did. He had it lit in Utah. They were going to the playoffs. They were winning; nobody cared. He had his own shoe; he got his own s—t in Utah; then he left,” he said.</p><p>Behind the scenes, Bailey was seemingly inconsolable as he people in his team offered him their support.
