Despite natural skepticism from fans and pundits, his choice <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6536869/2025/08/14/timberwolves-roster-preview-mike-conley-anthony-edwards/" rel="noopener">was not fully injury-related.</a></p><p>“DiVincenzo was planning to play for Italy at EuroBasket starting at the end of the month, but he pulled out as a precaution to ensure he is healthy entering training camp,” wrote Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic. “There is no concern about the toe injury that caused him to miss time last season. The Timberwolves did not block him from playing, according to team sources.”</p><p>DiVincenzo suffered a left toe sprain in January that forced him to miss a chunk of time. Even still, the Villanova product averaged 11.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists across 62 games. He shot roughly 40 percent from distance and around 42 percent from the field.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/minnesota-timberwolves/timberwolves-news-donte-divincenzos-nsfw-reaction-game-1-loss-vs-warriors">During the Timberwolves’ playoff run</a> to the Western Conference Finals, DiVincenzo averaged 8.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.3 assists while shooting around 32 percent from distance.</p><p>While these postseason marks were not awful for a player who played roughly 25 minutes per game, they paled in comparison to what he posted as a member of the New York Knicks during the 2024 NBA Playoffs. Across 13 games that spring, he averaged 17.8 points and shot around 42 percent from behind the arc while averaging about 35 minutes per contest.</p><p>The Timberwolves will hope that DiVincenzo can stay healthy as the team attempts to reach the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history next season.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Over the past few weeks, they’ve added Deandre Ayton and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/lakers-news-marcus-smart-intends-sign-la-wizards-buyout">recently signed Marcus Smart</a> after he was bought out by the Washington Wizards.</p><p>Apparently, the Lakers have been <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/siegels-scoop-nba-intel-chris-paul-bradley-beal-marcus-smart-deals" rel="noopener">on the phone fielding calls</a> for a few players around the league, according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.</p><p>“After fielding calls for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope when they first traded for him with the Orlando Magic, the Grizzlies have not seen any real conversations materialize for the veteran shooting guard,” Siegel wrote. “The Lakers were a team that spoke with Memphis about KCP after their Desmond Bane trade, sources said.</p><p>“Los Angeles also reached out to the Minnesota Timberwolves about Donte DiVincenzo’s availability, but the Wolves were not interested at all, sources said.”</p><p>Caldwell-Pope would be a familiar face for the Lakers, as he was a part of the team that won the championship in 2021, defeating the Miami Heat in the bubble. He has always been a solid 3-and-D player and would have fit in perfectly with the Lakers now.</p><p>DiVincenzo would have been a nice fit for the Lakers as well, but after the Timberwolves lost Nickeil Alexander-Walker in free agency, they may feel he is a little more valuable on the team.</p><h2><b>Lakers still trying to add to roster</b></h2><p>The Lakers know they have to keep adding to their roster if they want to compete with some of the best in the Western Conference. It sounds like they are still trying to shore up their guard depth, and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/los-angeles-lakers/lakers-rumors-la-interested-malcolm-brogdon-but-theres-catch">Malcolm Brogdon is a player</a> they seem to be interested in.</p><p>“The Lakers now have 14 players under contract for the 2025-26 season and are just over $1 million from the first-apron tax line,” Siegel wrote. “While the Lakers could pursue other veterans still available in free agency with their final roster spot, they would first need to free up space to do so.</p><p>“(Malcolm) Brogdon, a player Los Angeles expressed trade interest in before the 2025 NBA trade deadline, remains on their radar should the team free up extra funds in a small consolidation trade.”</p><p>Adding Smart could be the beginning of more moves down the line for the Lakers, and it looks like players such as Dalton Knecht and Gabe Vincent will be on the trade block so they can improve the team.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He attacked the boards with intensity, pushed the tempo from the jump, and took on a more active role as a ball handler—possibly aiming to ease the burden on Jimmy Butler III, who appeared worn down late in the previous contest.</p><p>In the Warriors’ two home losses, the team’s downfall was tied to the struggles of one of their key All-Star veterans. With Curry sidelined, Green and Butler were tasked with stepping up to keep Golden State afloat. While Butler came through in Game 3, Green had his worst showing of the series. However, in Game 4, Green rose to the occasion, while Butler appeared disengaged, likely still fatigued from his heavy workload in the previous game.</p><p>Despite Green’s solid performance, Butler’s concerningly passive effort stood out, as he only managed 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists on just 9 field-goal attempts, resulting in a game-worst -30 plus/minus. Green’s shooting dipped in the second half, but he still made an impact, taking 14 shots and finishing with 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists.</p><p>Whether it was due to age, injury, or off-court issues, Butler and Green couldn’t rise to the occasion for two straight games at home. Buddy Hield had an uninspiring performance, and Gary Payton II, along with the other young players not named Kuminga, seemed hesitant and unwilling to take shots.</p><p>Both teams will get a day off before heading to Minnesota for Game 5, where the Timberwolves will enter as the clear favorites to finish off the Warriors’ season. He appeared to be fouled by Lakers forward Rui Hachimura on the chest area, but no foul was called.</p><p>Luka Doncic immediately grabbed the rebound and was about to began the fast break. He also added five rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and one steal in a strong, all-around effort.</p><p>Jaden McDaniels led the Wolves on the night with 30 points and five rebounds, while Anthony Edwards posted 29 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists. Julius Randle added 22 points, five rebounds, and four assists.</p><p>For the Lakers, LeBron James led the way with 38 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocked shots in 41 minutes of play. Luka Doncic battled through an illness all day, and finished with just 17 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists on 6-of-16 shooting.</p><p>Game 4 will be Sunday, April 27th. The Pistons’ Ron Holland II and Marcus Sasser also received one-game suspensions. Isaiah Stewart received a two-game suspension from the league office due to his “repeated history of unsportsmanlike acts” on the court.</p><p>There were <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/minnesota-timberwolves/chris-finch-reveals-why-timberwolves-pistons-altercation-was-no-surprise">seven total players and coaches ejected</a> from Sunday’s game between the Timberwolves and Pistons after an all-out brawl broke out in the second quarter. DiVincenzo, Reid, Stewart, Sasser, and Holland were all ejected, as were Detroit head coach JB Bickerstaff and Minnesota assistant coach Pablo Prigioni.</p><p>Stewart and DiVincenzo had been going back and forth with one another on the court leading up to this incident, and the Pistons big man received a technical foul for shoving Minnesota’s guard after he was fouled. Reid took exception to Holland not playing the ball and began yelling and pointing at him, prompting the two teams to come together. Several players, including Reid, Holland, and DiVincenzo, had to be held back after the initial separation.</p><p>It was then that Bickerstaff and Prigioni got into a shouting match with one another and had to be restrained from getting in each other’s faces.</p><p>A lengthy review then took place before officials ejected DiVincenzo, Reid, Prigioni, Bickerstaff, Stewart, Sasser, and Holland. The Timberwolves went on to win 123-104.</p><p>After the game, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-jb-bickerstaff-breaks-silence-timberwolves-coach-role-wild-brawl">Bickerstaff explained what went wrong</a> and shared his thoughts on the incident.</p><p>“Obviously, we’re frustrated the game didn’t go the way we hoped it would have gone. When you play the way that we play, you earn a reputation. You’re going to be tested, and guys think that’s what they have to do,” Bickerstaff said. “You regret where it took place.</p><p>“That’s not something you ever want to see happen. I thought our guys stood their ground and defended each other and had each other’s back. Those are non-negotiables in our locker room.”</p><p>As far as his yelling match with Prigioni, Bickerstaff stated that he won’t let anyone say “belligerent things” about his players.</p><p>These five suspensions handed down by the NBA on Tuesday will begin immediately.</p><p>The Timberwolves will play Tuesday night’s game in Denver without Reid and DiVincenzo. The Pistons will be without Stewart, Holland, and Sasser for Wednesday’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Stewart will also miss the following game on Friday night against the Toronto Raptors.</p><p>These two suspensions could wind up proving costly for the Timberwolves, who are currently 43-32 and tied with the LA Clippers for the 7-seed in the Western Conference playoff picture. A loss to Denver on Tuesday night would push Minnesota further into the play-in region of the standings as they trail the Golden State Warriors by 0.5 games for the 6-seed.</p><p>Detroit is currently 42-33 this season and lead the Milwaukee Bucks by 1.5 games for the 5-seed in the Eastern Conference. After the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/timberwolves-news-karl-anthony-towns-reveals-the-reality-of-minnesota-knicks-trade">shocking trade of Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks</a>, the Timberwolves have dealt with injury issues to the players the acquired in Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo. However, help could be on the way soon.</p><p>Both Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo could return from injury to the Timberwolves lineup during the team’s <a href="https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/1893825023338516985" rel="noopener">upcoming four-game road trip</a>, as per Shams Charania of ESPN. The Wolves begin the trip this coming Monday against the Oklahoma City Thunder, with stops against the Los Angeles Lakers, Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns.</p><p>Randle has been sidelined since Jan. 30 with a groin injury. DiVincenzo has been out of the lineup since Jan 15. with a toe injury. In addition to those two players, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/timberwolves-news-is-anthony-edwards-playing-vs-rockets-latest-update">Wolves also have dealt with injuries to Anthony Edwards</a>, Mike Conley Jr. and Rudy Gobert in recent weeks.</p><p>The Timberwolves had a home game against the Thunder on Sunday, and Gobert was out for that game.</p><p>Randle and DiVincenzo were both acquired from the Knicks in the Towns trade. Randle has appeared in 48 games this season, at a little over 32 minutes per game. He’s been averaging 18.9 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists with splits of 47 percent shooting from the field, 32.1 percent shooting from the three-point line and 81.1 percent shooting from the free-throw line.</p><p>DiVincenzo has appeared in 40 games this season, including eight starts, at a little over 26 minutes per game. He’s been averaging 11.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.2 steals with splits of 39.7 percent shooting from the field, 36.9 percent shooting from the three-point line and 82 percent shooting from the free-throw line.</p><p>The Wolves are currently in 7th place in the Western Conference standings.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Chris Coetzee at Twin Cities Orthopedics for a stress fluoroscopy of the left great toe per the recommendation of Dr. Richard Ferkel at Southern California Orthopedic Institute and Dr. Robert Anderson at OrthoCarolina,” <a href="https://www.nba.com/timberwolves/news/donte-divincenzo-injury-update-012425" rel="noopener">the update reads</a>. “The exam showed a stable turf toe injury with a partial tear of the plantar ligament, not requiring surgery. DiVincenzo will be re-evaluated in three weeks, and further updates of his progress will be provided when available.”</p><h2><b>Timberwolves’ Donte DiVincenzo remains out with toe injury</b></h2><p>The Timberwolves guard is battling a toe injury. According to the update, he will be re-evaluated in three weeks. DiVincenzo is reportedly able to avoid surgery, so he could return sooner rather than later. Still, he will miss at least the next few weeks.</p><p>Minnesota will try to continue climbing the standings in the Western Conference despite <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/timberwolves-news-donte-divincenzo-out-indefinitely-toe-injury">DiVincenzo’s injury absence</a>.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/timberwolves-news-donte-divincenzo-fire-back-outside-noise-trade-rumors">DiVincenzo was previously dealing with trade rumors</a>. Be sure to follow him on Twitter @BrettSiegelNBA.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Minnesota Timberwolves</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>Donte DiVincenzo will <a href="https://www.nba.com/timberwolves/news/donte-divincenzo-injury-update" rel="noopener">be out indefinitely with a left great toe sprain</a>, the Minnesota Timberwolves announced on Monday.</p><p>The Wolves’ combo guard suffered this injury on Jan. 15 at the end of their 116-115 loss to the Golden State Warriors. After missing the last two games with this toe injury, DiVincenzo underwent an MRI that revealed a Grade 3 left great toe sprain.</p><p>DiVincenzo and the Timberwolves are currently seeking a second opinion to determine the best treatment options going forward. At this time, there are no further updates on his status or when he will be able to return to the floor this season.</p><p>After losing to the Warriors, Timberwolves star <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/timberwolves-news-anthony-edwards-honest-admission-after-warriors-loss">Anthony Edwards was very critical of his team’s effort and skill.</a></p><p>“The starting five, we are terrible. Every game we come out low energy and the second group comes in and gives us energy,” Edwards stated. “I would say the starting group gotta come out with more energy like we want to play the game of basketball, like we love the game.”</p><p>In a total of 40 games this season for Minnesota, DiVincenzo has averaged 11.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game while shooting 36.9 percent from three-point range. His 103 made threes are the second-most on the team, behind Edwards’ 179 made triples.</p><p>Head coach Chris Finch recently made a decision to move DiVincenzo into the starting lineup over veteran point guard Mike Conley, a move that seemed to spark the Timberwolves’ overall offense. Now that DiVincenzo will be sidelined indefinitely, Minnesota will likely revert back to their previous lineup with Conley starting at point guard.</p><p>The Timberwolves are currently 22-20 overall and have lost three of their last five games. As a result, Minnesota finds themselves as the 8-seed in the Western Conference, just a half-game above the Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors.</p><p>DiVincenzo has been one of the team’s most efficient scorers this season on the perimeter, which is why his loss is concerning for their immediate outlook.</p><p>Without the 28-year-old guard, the Wolves will likely turn to Nickeil Alexander-Walker as a player who must step up for this team to push forward. Alexander-Walker is averaging just 8.4 points per game and shooting 41.1 percent from three-point range this season. Perhaps rookie <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/timberwolves-news-rob-dillingham-lesson-learned-anthony-edwards" rel="noopener">Rob Dillingham will earn more minutes with the Wolves</a> in need of backcourt help. Dillingham has only played in 17 games to this point in the season.</p><p>Whether or not DiVincenzo will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season or require surgery for his severe toe injury has yet to be determined.
