Dwyane Wade left the Miami Heat after 13 seasons before ultimately returning, and LeBron James has played for three different teams over his Hall of Fame career. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-draymond-green-klay-thompson-gone-mavericks">Klay Thompson’s decision to leave the Golden State Warriors</a> was a little different than other legends who have switched teams in the offseason, especially since Thompson was supposed to retire in a Warriors uniform next to Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-klay-thompson-future-amid-diminishing-role">idea of Thompson leaving Golden State had been growing</a> ever since the start of the 2023-24 season. With the five-time All-Star wanting a new extension and to be paid like his counterparts, it seemed inevitable that change was going to happen for the Warriors, an organization that had changed the landscape of the league over the last decade with their four title runs since 2015.</p><p>Even with Thompson now a member of the Dallas Mavericks, a bitter rival of the Warriors, his legacy will always be cemented in the Bay Area. The four championship runs Thompson went on with Curry and Green will never be erased, and this bond these three players share will never be broken.</p><p>Then again, it appears as if Steph and Draymond are both ready to flip the page and <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/41669062/steph-curry-draymond-green-golden-state-warriors-klay-thompson" rel="noopener">show Klay that he made the wrong decision</a>.</p><p>“Through training camps and practices, we played against each other on opposite teams,” Curry said, via ESPN, “but nothing like an actual competitive NBA game. So they’ll have the ceremony … and I’m going to be fully engaged and present and making sure you celebrate him the way he’s supposed to. And then after that, it’s war. That’s how we’re all built.”</p><p>If anyone is ready for the matchup against Thompson, it is Green. Thompson and Green will remain close friends off the court, but when the Warriors play the Mavericks, we should expect nothing less than a lot of talking between the former teammates.</p><p>“It’s a happy divorce, if there’s a divorce,” Green stated. “A lot of divorces are nasty. This ain’t one of them. I don’t even qualify it as a divorce. It’s just the next chapter in all of our lives. This trio made nine playoff appearances together, making it to the NBA Finals six different times and capturing four titles in an eight-year span.</p><p>Legendary is the only word that comes to mind to describe what Thompson achieved alongside Curry and Green with the Warriors.</p><p>No matter what, these three stars are always going to have a chapter together in NBA lore, and their bond off the court will always be true. Curry, Green, and Thompson basically came into the league with one another and turned a failing organization into one of the greatest in all of professional sports.</p><p>While they may not be teammates anymore, this relationship will still be strong moving forward.</p><p>“It’s weird, we talked about [taking the boat out] when we first came into the league, stuff that we used to do together,” Curry said. “Then you start having families, me and Draymond have multiple kids and schedules going crazy. But I will get on this boat at some point, even though we’re not teammates anymore.</p><p>“You’re friends first, teammates second. And that is how the relationship is, and we will always be. I wish it was both. But I love Klay. I respect him for 78 games out of the year. I won’t say I’ll be rooting for him, but I’ll be watching him. The other four games we play him, I’ll be ready to go at him.”</p><p>Draymond may be ready to run through Klay’s chest when they play against one another for the first time on November 12, but at the end of the day, these three stars are brothers. The move was heartbreaking for Warriors fans, as Thompson played a pivotal role in four championship victories. Additionally, Thompson’s departure had a significant impact on Warriors players. Draymond Green recently revealed the exact moment in which he realized Thompson was likely going to leave.</p><p>According to Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN, Green <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/41669062/steph-curry-draymond-green-golden-state-warriors-klay-thompson" rel="noopener">revealed that</a> Thompson called him during the summer, something the former Warriors guard rarely did.</p><p>“He gone,” Green said he told his wife, according to ESPN. “He didn’t say nothing yet. But he gone.”</p><p>Thompson then told Green his free agency plans, as he planned to head to the Mavs.</p><p>Klay Thompson had spent his entire career with the Warriors, winning championships alongside Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. However, a contract extension failed to come to fruition ahead of Thompson’s contract year in 2023-24. That led to intense speculation about Thompson’s potential departure.</p><p>Golden State was then eliminated from the postseason in a play-in game defeat. Thompson had a respectable regular season, but he struggled in the play-in game. It was a sour note to end his Warriors career on, but fans and the team will remember all of the positives that Klay brought to the Warriors.</p><p>He approached the game in a professional manner and emerged as one of the greatest three-point shooters of all-time. Thompson, as aforementioned, became a four-time champion with the Warriors as well. Thompson’s teammates are also thrilled for the opportunity to play alongside another future Hall of Famer.</p><p>The Mavericks now have three future Hall of Famers on the roster with Thompson, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Dallas’ depth is enticing as well, and the Mavs should have a realistic opportunity to make another NBA Finals run.</p><p>Meanwhile, the Warriors are in an uncertain position. Curry and Green are set to lead the roster once again. Yet, this isn’t the same Golden State team that was formerly a dynasty.</p><p>There are currently no guarantees when it comes to the 2024-25 Warriors. Could they compete and earn a play-in or official playoff spot? Sure, but Golden State is certainly not a championship favorite this year. Of course, counting out any Stephen Curry-led team is risky.</p><p>Nevertheless, Thompson and the Warriors are headed on two different paths. Golden State may need to enter a rebuild soon, while Thompson is hoping to earn at least one more championship in his career.</p><p>Klay Thompson will make his return to play his former team on November 12 when the Warriors host the Mavericks. General managers across the league also voted the Golden State Warriors superstar as the best player at moving without the ball, best leader and the player they’d most want taking a shot with the game on the line.</p><p>Just as unsurprising as that peerless league-wide confidence in the attributes that have long made Curry truly one of one? The same <a href="https://www.nba.com/news/2024-25-nba-gm-survey" rel="noopener">annual survey of the NBA’s general managers</a> projecting new-look Golden State to finish eighth in an absolutely loaded Western Conference—not good enough to swing a win-now trade and make real noise in the playoffs, but not bad enough to initiate a real rebuild around Curry while hoping for lottery luck in the twilight of his career.</p><p>Relatedly, no one else on the Warriors’ roster was voted top-five of any individual category in this year’s GM survey. Even Jonathan Kuminga missed out on that distinction for most athletic player, merely receiving votes behind a group led by Anthony Edwards that also featured Giannis Antetokounmpo, Ja Morant and twins Amen and Ausar Thompson.</p><p>Take issue with Kuminga’s standing there all you want. At just 22, his extremely rare blend of vertical pop, sudden burst and functional strength is unimpeachable.</p><p>Just as ironclad for years and years running was Draymond Green’s case as arguably the best defender in the NBA. Golden State’s competitors agreed. Coming off his first season as a starter in the mid-2010s to just this time last year, only once—ahead of 2020-21, after lazing his way through the Dubs’ injury-ravaged prior campaign—had Green not received enough votes in the annual GM survey to rank top-five in best defensive player.</p><p>Make it twice. The future Hall-of-Famer was conspicuously absent altogether from that category in this year’s exercise, not even among the group of 10 players who received a single vote.</p><p>Is there a legitimate chance Green is the league’s top defender in 2024-25? Probably not with Victor  Wembanyama around, and younger aces like Bam Adebayo and Herb Jones are better suited to play with the tireless motor it takes to wreak defensive havoc every other trip down the floor anyway. The 34-year-old’s days of competing for Defensive Player of the Year, basically, are likely over.</p><p>But can Golden State really reach the heights it must on that end this season if Green isn’t healthy, available <i>and</i> playing at an All-Defense level?</p><h2><b>Evidence of Draymond Green’s defensive decline</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Draymond-Green-reacting-in-a-game.jpg"><figcaption>© Cary Edmondson-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Surely some of the front office honchos who didn’t vote Green as basketball’s top defensive player would nevertheless choose him as the defender you’d most want with the game on the line and one possession remaining.</p><p>Nobody processes the game faster than Green, and his hands remain cat quick and gorilla strong. The all-court versatility that helped build the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-draymond-green-proud-message-joe-lacob-owning-dubs">Dubs’ dynasty</a>, propel him to stardom and change how basketball is played forever hasn’t vanished entirely. Entering his 13th season, Green is still fully capable of blowing up big possessions pretty much all by himself.</p><p>What lags behind now compared to his prime is Green’s ability to make that impact on defense some 50-plus times per game, a reality reflected in <a href="https://www.pbpstats.com/wowy-combos/nba?TeamId=1610612744&amp;Season=2023-24&amp;SeasonType=Regular%2BSeason&amp;PlayerIds=203110&amp;OnlyCommonGames=true" rel="noopener">on-off numbers</a> from his 55 appearances a year ago. While the Warriors sported a solid 112.9 defensive rating when Green was on the floor last season, that number rose less than a point to 113.7 as he got a breather, according to pbpstats.com.</p><p>Opponent shooting luck is one reason why Golden State’s defensive rating barely dropped off in games Green played. Far more damning ones as it relates to his future? Green’s lack of consistently sharp teeth even as a switch defender, but especially a rim-protector.</p><p>That he’s no longer airtight while guarding the likes of Devin Booker or Jaylen Brown—let alone faster point guards—on switches accounts for just a small part of Green’s defensive decline. It was magnified further last season coupled with him allowing 60.3% shooting at the rim, per NBA.com/stats, a whopping 9.2 percentage points worse than his elite number from 2022-23.</p><p>The eye test tells the same story as the numbers. Green still has the barrel chest and endless arms he’s always used to be a game-changing deterrent at the rim, but no longer possesses the leaping ability needed to meet challengers at the mountain top. That obvious decrease in explosiveness is only more apparent on the rare occasions Green is a half step slow in rotation on the back line, too.</p><h2><b>Warriors must manage elite defense to compete in West</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Warriors-Stephen-Curry-and-Draymond-Green.jpg"><figcaption>Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Golden State’s path to surpassing expectations this season and easily avoiding the play-in tournament is clear. Few teams in the league boast the Dubs’ depth of quality talent, especially defensively. But after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-jimmy-butler-after-paul-george-lauri-markkanen">missing out on Lauri Markkanen and Paul George</a> this summer, their need to compensate on the other side of the ball for that nonexistent No. 2 behind Curry and an overall lack of offensive firepower is more dire than ever.</p><p>Surrounding an all-time defender like Green with enough versatile talent used to be a reliable recipe for a top-five defense. The altercation was initially between Klay Thompson and Jaden McDaniels at midcourt before Gobert approached to separate the two and Green came from behind to grab onto the Frenchman’s neck. Towns followed the two big men, attempting to separate the grip of Green.</p><p>Thompson, McDaniels and Green would all be ejected from the game but it would be the latter who would ultimately be dealt the biggest punishment. Thompson and McDaniels were both handed a $25,000 fine but the problematic 34-year-old was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-klay-thompson-draymond-green-possible-suspension-timberwolves-altercation">suspended for the following five games</a>. NBA insider Shams Charania reported the news that also involved the Charlotte Hornets in a three-team deal.</p><p>With the trade, Towns joins the Knicks to join forces with Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby and Josh Hart. New York gave up Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo to Minnesota while sending a few other players to Charlotte to complete the deal.</p><p>While in Minnesota, Towns, the former No. 1 overall pick of the 2015 NBA Draft, was recognized as a four-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA center. He was also named the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2016 and won the three-point contest during All-Star weekend in 2022. The Warriors completed a sign-and-trade that <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mavericks-news-dallas-klay-thompson-contract-free-agency">sent former franchise shooting guard Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks</a>. Nevertheless, Golden State retains the services of Stephen Curry’s other longtime teammate: Draymond Green. Green made an intriguing NFL comparison that includes San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner.</p><p>When asked who his NFL counterpart would be, Green <a href="https://www.nbcsportsbayarea.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/draymond-green-fred-warner-comparison/1789396/" rel="noopener">gave this response</a>:</p><p>“My NFL comparison? That is a good one… I’m going to go Fred Warner,” Green told Sloane Knows on the “Sloane Knows” podcast.</p><p>Green further explained his answer when Knows said she was not familiar with Warner.</p><p>“Fred Warner is the best linebacker in the NFL,” Green said. “He plays for the San Francisco 49ers, and he is a dog. I think Fred Warner,” Green added.</p><p>Warner played an integral role in the 49ers’ defense during the 2023 NFL season. The 27-year-old amassed 132 total tackles, three forced fumbles, one sack, and a career-high four interceptions. He helped San Francisco go 12-5 and finish as the top team in the NFC. The 49ers advanced to Super Bowl 58 and faced the Kansas City Chiefs but lost in 25-22.</p><p>San Francisco hopes to get back to the championship game again but has started the 2024 season 2-2 amid a sea of injuries.</p><p>Meanwhile, the 49ers’ Bay Area counterpart Warriors hope to make a deep run as well, and Draymond Green will be right in the middle of it.</p><p>Green endured suspensions during the 2023-24 season that prevented him from fully contributing to the Warriors. However, he is back and ready to help his team regain competitiveness. Stephen Curry remains elite at what he does, but the roster outside of him, despite all the Warriors’ moves this offseason, has plenty of question marks. Plenty of things have to go right at the same time for the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/why-stephen-curry-warriors-believe-relevancy-klay-thompson-loss">Warriors to contend for another title</a>, and even then, nothing is guaranteed.</p><p>This may be the first season in a while that the Warriors are entering without too many high expectations. Many experts have them as a middle-tier playoff team in the Western Conference at best, and for good reason, as they don’t have the top-shelf talent that teams such as the Dallas Mavericks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Denver Nuggets have. But Draymond Green is defiant in that he believes that the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5814850/2024/10/03/draymond-green-warriors-championship-training-camp/">Warriors are not done</a> winning big quite yet.</p><p>“I know I ain’t done. I know [Curry] ain’t done. So it ain’t like, ‘All right, I feel like I’m at the end. I’m cashing it in.’ Nah. We can do that s**t again. I know we can do it again. Or will Kerr decide to start a more traditional big man at center in Trayce Jackson-Davis or Kevon Looney? Now, it’s not quite clear yet which route the Dubs will end up taking. He certainly has the credibility when it comes to knowing what it takes to be a successful power forward in the NBA.</p><p>Being a four requires impeccable help defense instincts and rebounding stability, as well as the versatility to defend in multiple ways, be it in isolation, in blitzes, or even in drop coverage. Green has excelled in that regard for the Warriors for so long, and he has worked with Kuminga up close for three seasons now, so he, of all people, would know that the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-jonathan-kuminga-steve-kerr-offensive-plan-for-2024-25-season">21-year-old forward’s skillset</a> makes him better suited to be a small forward.</p><p>Kuminga averaged 16.1 points per game last season on 52 percent shooting from the field. He can get the Warriors buckets, and it will be tough for the team to bring him off the bench next season. He did kick up a bit of a fuss last season regarding his role. But someone may have to make sacrifices next season for this team to work.</p><h2><b>Will the Warriors go small again to start next season?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Draymond-Green-reacting-in-a-game.jpg"></figure><p>The most obvious course of action for the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-steve-kerr-issues-andrew-wiggins-demand-klay-thompson-gone">Warriors is to start</a> Jonathan Kuminga and Andrew Wiggins together with Draymond Green once again being a small-ball five. A lack of size on the interior has come back to haunt the Dubs more often than not over the past two seasons, but it might be the best compromise to keep everyone happy.</p><p>Kuminga, however, is not a particularly good rebounder. Wiggins’ motor comes and goes. The Warriors are once again likely to face a rebounding deficit night after night. It might only be a matter of time before Kerr feels the need to start Trayce Jackson-Davis to inject some athleticism and rim protection into a small Warriors frontcourt.</p><p>Regardless, the Warriors’ main strength lies in the power of their backcourt as well as their versatility on the wing. He embodies the “us against the world” mentality among competitors in the NBA (save for, perhaps, his friendly relationship with LeBron James these days). If an old friend of his is no longer with the Warriors, then he will act as though a shark had sniffed some blood in the ocean. He will not hold anything back; in fact, he will play with even more aggression than usual.</p><p>Green and Thompson’s relationship has grown over the years, as they have achieved everything there is to achieve in one’s NBA career. But the Warriors cannot afford to relent even an inch to the opposition. They will be among the middle-tier teams in the Western Conference, while the Mavericks are expected to be among the best teams in the association, so Green, even though it’s not likely for him to run through Thompson’s chest, should be expected to play with more of an edge when the two teams meet.</p><h2><b>Klay Thompson and the Warriors’ divorce was necessary for both parties</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Klay-Thompson-and-Draymond-Green-with-the-Warriors.jpg"></figure><p>The situation between Klay Thompson and the Warriors did not turn toxic. The 2023-24 season was filled with struggles for Thompson, sure, but the Warriors always had his back. He even finished the campaign on a high note before stinking it up in the play-in game.</p><p>Nevertheless, Thompson needed to find some greener pastures, as it became clear that his time with the Warriors had run its course. He was no longer capable of being the secondary star/scorer the team needed to give Stephen Curry the help he needed, and the two parties did not see eye to eye in contract negotiations, therefore sealing his exit from the team.</p><p>With Thompson’s departure, the Warriors have much more financial flexibility moving forward, and just in time with Jonathan Kuminga up for a new contract. They also brought in several depth pieces, with the Dubs going back to their “Strength In Numbers” roots.</p><p>Meanwhile, Thompson settles in as the Mavericks’ third banana, and he won’t have to do much shot-creation, if at all, which suits him at this point of his career. I’m a successful black man in America doing incredibly well. What’s to worry about?”</p><p>The reporter then suggested the fans and possibly the players are worried about Green being on the floor after being suspended a few times. and Green had an honest response.</p><p>“I’m here. I’ve been here for 13 years now. I don’t get the question.”</p><p>Draymond Green has been suspended a handful of times, and he was hit with a f<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-draymond-green-receives-five-game-suspension">ive-game suspension for his altercation</a> with Rudy Gobert before the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/longest-suspensions-nba-history-draymond-green-indefinite-ban">NBA gave him an indefinite suspension</a>. Senior quarterback Carson Beck threw two interceptions in the first half, one of which, Alabama capitalized on. The <a href="https://ftw.usatoday.com/2024/09/alabama-jalen-milroe-georgia-stats" rel="noopener">Crimson Tide had 355 total yards of offense in the first half</a>, compared to Georgia’s 153 yards.</p><p>Alabama dominated the rushing game with 156 yards. Milroe alone had 106 of those and two rushing touchdowns. He continually gashed the Georgia front-seven and made quick work. As mentioned earlier, his 199 passing yards and 106 rushing yards would be solid statistics throughout four quarters. For that to take place in the first half against one of the top defensive teams in the country is a testament to a couple of things.</p><p>First, Milroe’s play. He balled out in the SEC Championship game, throwing for 192 yards and two touchdowns. The efficient, and versatile style he plays with keeps defenses on their toes. J. Stroud and Mixon’s strong play. Stroud went 24 of 32, with 234 passing yards and two touchdowns, while Mixon had 30 carries for 159 yards, with one touchdown.</p><p>While the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nfl-rumors-texans-made-aggressive-push-sign-saquon-barkley-joe-mixon-trade">Texans initially pursued Saquon Barkley</a>, the former Giants running back eventually signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency. Still, they upgraded their roster by trading for the former Bengals running back.</p><p>Moreover, the Bengals were set to cut him from the roster, so he must have been thrilled at getting dealt to another team for a chance to reset his value and earn his next big contract.</p><p>Taking advantage of the trade, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/grading-joe-mixon-3-year-27-million-contract-extension-texans">Mixon signed a three-year, $27 million extension</a> after the deal. His stellar performance in Week 1 should have also made fans happy with the deal.</p><p>Meanwhile, as mentioned, Draymond Green is no stranger to hard hits, even earning him a reputation as a dirty player. Last June, for instance, sports analyst and noted LeBron James hater Skip Bayless <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/bayless-labels-draymond-dirtiest-player-153951497.html" rel="noopener">issued a savage take</a> on the Warriors’ defensive anchor.</p><p>“Draymond Green is, no exaggeration, the dirtiest player in NBA history by far,” Bayless said on his eponymous show. “At his core, deepest down, he’s been a dirty basketball player with one or two screws loose. Since he entered the league, Draymond Green has been ejected a league-high 20 times. He’s been called for technical fouls 151 times.”</p><h2><b>Draymond’s hardest hits</b></h2><p>Green also helped break up the Warriors’ 2022 championship squad, after punching Jordan Poole in the face during an October practice, destroying team chemistry until their elimination at the hands of the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the playoffs.</p><p>Besides the infamous punch, the Warriors forward also struck Jusuf Nurkic and put Rudy Gobert in an MMA-style chokehold, and the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-draymond-green-suspended-indefinitely">NBA suspended Draymond indefinitely</a>.</p><p>He also went to therapy during his suspension, resetting his mindset and focus.</p><p>Now, the Warriors will need Draymond Green to be on top of his game. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mavericks-news-dallas-completes-klay-thompson-acquisition-in-historic-6-team-trade">team has lost Klay Thompson</a> and failed to acquire big-name players in the offseason. But the outspoken NBA player mostly keeps his <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-draymond-green-picks-worst-fanbase-between-celtics-knicks-76ers">critiques contained to the hardwood</a> — until now. And that is not good news for the Atlanta Falcons.</p><p>Green, who has never been shy of voicing his opinions, recently launched a podcast called “Why is Draymond Green Talking about Football?” in which Green — you guessed it — talks about football with NFL insider Jordan Schultz. Green, while having played 12 seasons in the NBA, did actually play football, albeit briefly, while attending Michigan State University. He practiced with the football team as a tight end but did not end up playing in any games for the Spartans.</p><p>During his time in East Lansing, Green was one of the school’s top athletes. Kirk Cousins, the football team’s star quarterback, also had that title considering the two current professional athletes’ stint at Michigan State greatly overlapped with one another.</p><p>However, <a href="https://twitter.com/ClutchPoints/status/1834739333276090836" rel="noopener">that didn’t stop</a> Green from saying Cousins’ new team, the Falcons, are “garbage.”</p><p>“Shoutout to my Spartan dawg, Captain Kirk,” Green said. “We was here at the same time. Got a bunch of love for Kirk. Bijan [Robinson] is a young star, shoutout to him. But Atlanta’s garbage.”</p><p>“No… They’re not garbage,” Schultz tried to interject.</p><p>“They garbage,” Green restated. “They garbage, and I’m going to take Philly at -6.5 at home, no problem. Cousins and the Falcons played poorly in Week 1, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/atlanta-falcons-most-to-blame-for-week-1-loss-to-steelers">losing 18-10 to the Pittsburgh Steelers</a> despite Pittsburgh failing to score a touchdown the entire game. Cousins, in particular, looked out of sorts in his first game with Atlanta — the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/falcons-news-raheem-morris-on-kirk-cousins-week-1-dud">veteran quarterback went 16-for-26</a>, 155 yards, one touchdown, and 2 interceptions.</p><p>Cousins’ Week 1 performance has led some, like <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/falcons-news-keyshawn-johnson-bold-franchise-altering-kirk-cousins-prediction">former NFL player Keyshawn Johnson</a>, to already start talking about when it’s time to promote rookie backup Michael Penix Jr. to a starting role.</p><p>Fortunately for Cousins and the Falcons’ offense, the Philadelphia Eagles’ defense is not expected to be as strong as the notoriously stringent defense of the Steelers. In their Week 1 victory against the Green Bay Packers in Brazil, the Eagles allowed 251 passing yards and 2 passing touchdowns, in addition to 163 rushing yards on 21 carries for an astounding 7.8 yard-per-rush average. If the Falcons have a chance to beat Philadelphia, they’ll need to have a similarly effective rushing attack, if only to slow down the pass rush and set up the play action for Cousins.</p><p>Robinson, the Falcons’ No. 8 overall a year ago, and Tyler Allgeier combined for 89 rushing yards on 21 carries last week vs. Pittsburgh.</p><p>The Falcons and Eagles will kick off the Sept. 16 edition of “Monday Night Football” at approximately 8:15 p.m. ET.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Playing against a team like that during the regular season when you really don’t have time to prepare and then you go up against that defense, that’s going to be hard.”</p><p>Green, however, is bullish on how they’ll perform in the playoffs.</p><p>“It would not shock me if they get the number-one seed, but I ultimately don’t think that team gets over the hump.”</p><p>The Knicks have seen massive, incremental success over the past few seasons that has translated to back-to-back trips to the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals. The addition of Jalen Brunson proved to be fruitful, as the former Dallas Mavericks guard has turned into an All-Star guard that can get a quick and easy bucket at any point needed in the flow of the game.</p><p>Couple that with the fact that the Knicks made savvy trades for former Raptors forward OG Anunoby and acquired Brooklyn Nets two-way standout Mikal Bridges to add as pieces to the puzzle alongside Julius Randle, New York will certainly be a team to look out for in the regular season.</p><p>But, does Green have a point that the postseason could prove to be a challenge for the new-look Knicks? It seemed as if the team had all the momentum to make a run to the Eastern Conference Finals and challenge the Boston Celtics but they lost in seven games to the Indiana Pacers. The year before, they lost to a Heat team that dropped to the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference and had to fight their way out of the play-in.</p><p>The<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/knicks-news-new-york-must-fix-compete-championship"> Knicks have figured out the formula for the regular season</a> and could prove to be an adept challenger to the Boston Celtics. But can they, in Green’s terms, get over the hump and truly make a run for a title?</p><p>The Knicks open up the season with a matchup against the defining NBA Champion Boston Celtics on October 22nd and 7:30 PM EST.
