He joined ClutchPoints in 2023.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Detroit Pistons</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>It’s been an interesting offseason for the Detroit Pistons, who have put their pursuit of <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-malik-beasley-roster-spot-held-open-gambling-investigation">retaining free-agent sharpshooter Malik Beasley</a> on hold amid his federal investigation for potential gambling activities. In the meantime, the Pistons have signed bench scorers Caris LeVert <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-duncan-robinson-early-whirlwind-experience-detroit">and Duncan Robinson</a> to try to help fill that void in the event that Beasley doesn’t return.</p><p>Robinson has long been known as one of the elite three-point shooters in the NBA landscape today, and recently, the newly signed Pistons forward floated <a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1957538693776044512" rel="noopener">an interesting idea</a> to spice up end-of-quarter scenarios.</p><p>“Last-second shots at the end of quarters should fall under a different field-goal percentage,” said Robinson, per the Old Man and the Three podcast.</p><p>For years now, NBA players have often declined shooting half-court shots at the end of quarters (unless it’s the fourth quarter of course) in an attempt to preserve their field-goal percentage.</p><p>Various ideas have been proposed to help fix this issue, and Robinson’s suggestion may just be what the NBA needs to implement in order to motivate players to let it fly at the buzzer.</p><h2><b>An interesting Pistons team</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Detroit-Pistons-guard-Cade-Cunningham-2-dribbles-defended-by-Atlanta-Hawks-guard-Dyson-Daniels-5.jpg"><figcaption>Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Last year, the Pistons had their best season in more than a decade, earning the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference and taking the New York Knicks to six hard-fought games in the first round of the playoffs.</p><p>The Pistons are building around franchise cornerstone Cade Cunningham, who has turned himself into one of the elite point guards in the NBA today, and they’ve also got some other considerable young talent on their roster in players like Jalen Duren.</p><p>The Pistons will also be getting back wing scorer Jaden Ivey, who missed most of last year with an injury and should provide some extra perimeter playmaking for Detroit, especially in the event that Beasley does not return.</p><p>Robinson figures to provide not only his elite shooting but also some veteran experience, having been on multiple deep playoff runs during his days with the Miami Heat.</p><p>In any case, the Pistons’ season is slated to get underway on October 22 on the road vs. the Chicago Bulls.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He accompanied his teammates during the Pistons’ 98-83 victory against the Houston Rockets. Robinson spoke to the media during the matchup, <a href="https://x.com/omarisankofa/status/1944511958348361844" rel="noopener">describing his reaction to his new opportunity</a> in Detroit.</p><p>“It’s a really fun group. Just being able to come out here, having a little mini-camp with practices, coming to games and supporting these guys has been awesome,” Robinson explained via Omari Sankofa of the Detroit Free Press. “It’s a great blend of super ambitious, young guys, plus some guys who have been through it before as well. I’m just excited to be a part of it. It’s been a sort of a whirlwind, but it’s been a fun couple of weeks.”</p><p>Robinson spent the first seven seasons of his career as a member of the Miami Heat. He also has ties to Michigan after playing college basketball for the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor <a href="https://mgoblue.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/duncan-robinson/649" rel="noopener">from 2015 until 2018</a>.</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-detroit-agrees-to-48-million-duncan-robinson-sign-and-trade-with-heat">Pistons completed a sign-and-trade acquisition</a> to bring Robinson to Detroit in exchange for forward Simone Fontecchio. Robinson’s deal is valued at $48 million over the next three seasons.</p><p>One of the Pistons’ priorities for free agency was originally to sign guard Malik Beasley back. A serious betting allegation against the elite shooter stemming from 2023-24 changed those plans. The Pistons also lost veteran shooter Tim Hardaway Jr. in free agency as he signed a deal joining the Denver Nuggets.</p><h2><b>What can Robinson bring to the Pistons</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Image.jpg"><figcaption>© David Richard-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Detroit pivoted to a deal for Robinson to make up for the lost shooting on the roster. Robinson spoke about the potential he sees with his new team and how he could add to it.</p><p>“I think first and foremost I can bring leadership to this team. I’ve been a part of some really good teams. I’ve played a lot of different roles,” Robinson stated. “Just embracing whatever is asked of me as an older guy. Playing the right way, getting other guys involved, using how the defense guards me to create opportunities for other guys. Just competing and trying to move the needle to help us win.”</p><p>Robinson shared some excitement about the possibilities with Pistons’ big men Jalen Duren and Isaiah Stewart. A big part of Robinson’s success with Miami was being set up for open shots by All Star Bam Adebayo with screening. Robinson sees similarities to their games and is thrilled to replicate it in Detroit.</p><p>“JD (Jalen Duren) is a special talent man, and I feel like he’s gotten bigger and stronger since the season when we played against him. The sky is the absolute limit in terms of his ability,” Robinson said. “I’m really excited to play with him and Stew as well. Just the way they set screens and create opportunities for guys. Both of them are lob threats. The opportunity to get the ball back to them after drawing two. Their versatility is special, to be able to be more dynamic with the ball as bigger players. Besides the<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-trade-grade-for-norman-powell-deal-with-clippers-jazz"> Heat trading for Norman Powell</a>, Fontecchio was comparatively a lateral move, though there are aspects where he can contribute, as he speaks more about that on Tuesday.</p><p>Fontecchio spoke to the media on Tuesday through Zoom and spoke about being traded to Miami and what he can offer to his new team. Funny enough, Fontecchio is a well-known three-point shooter, which could be seen as ironic when looking at who is going to Detroit and <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1942655870854140112" rel="noopener">even said that he compares himself</a> to Robinson.</p><p>“I watched a lot of Duncan Robinson in the last three years because I think our skill set is pretty similar,” Fontecchio said. “Of course, he’s a tremendous shooter and he did an amazing job all the years in Miami and I was always kind of looking at him, the way he was getting off shots and I always kind of wanted to do the same thing. I think I can try to play like a little bit off handoffs, running off screens, do a little bit of that.”</p><p>The new Miami forward wouldn’t find out immediately about the trade since he was in Italy, his home country. Meaning, he was in sleep when the news broke about the next step in his NBA journey.</p><p>“I’m in Italy right now, so I was asleep when everything happened,” Fontecchio said. “It was a little bit late over here. … But I’m happy. I’m happy with the way everything went down and I’m really excited.”</p><h2><b>Looking at the new Heat acquisition’s three-point shooting</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Zion-Williamson-Pistons.jpg"><figcaption>Matthew Hinton-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>While it remains to be seen where else the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/los-angeles-lakers/nba-rumors-lakers-insider-andrew-wiggins-trade-heat-unrealistic">Heat will add to the team with all the rumors surrounding them</a>, there’s no doubt they’re hoping Fontecchio can help. During the 2023-24 season, he shot 40.1 percent from deep, but it dipped last season to 33.5 percent with the 29-year-old attributing that to an injury to his left big toe in 2024.</p><p>“Especially last season, it’s been a little up and down for me,” Fontecchio said. “I was coming off an injury that was a pretty important surgery on my left foot that I had last summer. So it was a little bit of chasing my best shape all summer and then also during the regular season. So I think I was never my full self.</p><p>“But I think I felt pretty comfortable over the last two to three years in the NBA,” Fontecchio continued. “I worked a lot to feel that way and I’m working even harder right now during this summer. It’s the first summer after a couple years that I didn’t have any problems or injury or stuff like that, and I can really focus on myself, on my health, and my skill set. It’s something I was looking for, to work on it. But definitely before, I felt like I belonged in this league and I can do some damage. I’m looking forward to getting back to that form.”</p><p>At any rate, Fontecchio looks to help Miami improve after finishing 37-45 last season, which put them 10th in the Eastern Conference as the team was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Cleveland Cavaliers.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Robinson has spent his entire career in Miami so far, so this will be a big change for him. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-detroit-agrees-to-48-million-duncan-robinson-sign-and-trade-with-heat">He is coming to Detroit</a> on a three-year deal that is worth $48 million, but only $18.8 million <a href="https://x.com/MikeAScotto/status/1942426701650170043" rel="noopener">is guaranteed</a>. The first year of the deal is fully guaranteed, but the next two seasons are a different story.</p><p>“Sources: The Detroit Pistons signed Duncan Robinson to a three-year, $48 million deal, which is fully guaranteed at $16.8 million for the 2025-26 season, partially guaranteed $2 million out of a possible $16 million in the 2026-27 season, and non-guaranteed for the 2027-28 season,” Michael Scotto said in a post.</p><p>The $18.8 million that is guaranteed in this contract is similar to what Robinson’s early termination clause was with the Heat.</p><p>“Duncan Robinson’s $18.8M guaranteed with the Detroit Pistons via sign-and-trade is nearly the same amount as his early termination clause with the Miami Heat,” Scotto added. “Robinson, a career 40% 3PT shooter, returns to Michigan after playing for the Wolverines for three seasons in college.”</p><p>Robinson has one of the best stories in the NBA, and he is starting to write a new chapter. He started his college basketball career at the Division III level, but he started to make a name for himself after transferring to Michigan. Robinson was a lights out shooter for the Wolverines, but he didn’t get drafted to the NBA. He was able to sign a two-way contract with the Heat, however, and the rest is history.</p><p>People have been doubting Robinson for his entire career, and he just keeps proving people wrong. No one expected him to do anything with the Heat, and then in the 2019-20 season, he averaged 13.5 points per game and shot almost 45% from three. Robinson was a key player on a team that made a run to the NBA Finals, and he earned a $90 million contract because of it.</p><p>Robinson hasn’t quite reached that same level since, but he is still a great spark off the bench because of his three-point shooting ability. While his numbers weren’t as impressive last year, he still averaged double figures and shot just under 40% from deep.</p><p>Now, Duncan Robinson gets to make a return to the mitten state. He is loved by Wolverines fans as he helped the team make a run to the national title game in 2018, and a lot of those fans support the Pistons. In the end, they won 44 games and pushed the New York Knicks to six hard-fought games in the first round of the 2025 NBA playoffs.</p><p>In the process, the Pistons seem to have established themselves as a playoff team for the years to come, stumbling upon a formula for success around their nascent superstar, who, at just 23 years of age, made the All-NBA Third Team this past season.</p><p>They need shooters and tough, rugged defenders around Cunningham, and with the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/denver-nuggets/nuggets-news-tim-hardaway-jr-free-agency-addition">departure of Tim Hardaway Jr. to the Denver Nuggets</a> and the likely blacklisting of Malik Beasley from the NBA amid his financial problems, the Pistons needed to bring in a new designated marksman.</p><p>They did just that, acquiring Duncan Robinson in a sign-and-trade sending Simone Fontecchio to the Miami Heat, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-detroit-agrees-to-48-million-duncan-robinson-sign-and-trade-with-heat">giving Robinson a three-year, $48 million contract</a>.</p><p>Did the Pistons overpay to sign Robinson to replace the shooters that they lost? Or did they simply pay the going rate for a player of Robinson’s caliber and skillset?</p><p>Here is the initial grade for the Pistons’ $48 million agreement with Robinson.</p><h2>The Pistons had to splash the cash for some shooting</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Duncan-Robinson-shoots-the-ball-e1737994353230.jpg"><figcaption>Sam Navarro-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Shooters who thrive off of movement make bank in today’s NBA, and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-duncan-robinson-makes-20-million-contract-decision-amid-trade-rumors">Robinson simply capitalized on the Pistons’ need</a> for a shooter with his experience following the departure of Hardaway and the likely exit of Beasley.</p><p>This past season, Robinson averaged 11.0 points per game on 44/39/89 shooting splits, making 2.6 triples a night on high volume. He ranked 24th in the league this past campaign in total three-pointers made (197), and among bench players (players who started more than half of their games played on the bench), he ranked fifth.</p><p>Alas, Robinson would not have been the Pistons’ first choice signing. That would have been Beasley. But we all know what’s happening with the mercurial 28-year-old guard. He’s been facing gambling integrity allegations, all while facing a mountain of debt that had a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/nba-rumors-malik-beasleys-dentist-seized-part-pistons-paychecks-debt-issues">dentist garnish his Pistons contract this past season</a>.</p><p>Beasley ended up fumbling the bag, as the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-malik-beasley-under-investigation-gambling">Pistons were reportedly set to offer him a three-year, $42 million contract</a> that no doubt could have reached the value of the deal that Robinson ended up signing had the 28-year-old stayed on the straight and narrow.</p><p>If anything, at the very least, Robinson has had no issues off the court in the past, unlike Beasley, who’s faced a mountain of them since the start of the decade. The Pistons at least made the right decision to prioritize the signing of someone who is nearly guaranteed to stay out of trouble, which makes him a better bet (<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/nba-news-kendrick-perkins-given-troubling-malik-beasley-betting-probe-info">Beasley pun intended</a>) to contribute for the Pistons for the duration of his contract.</p><p>Alas, Robinson is already 30 years of age, and has been very inconsistent in the past. He can run hot and cold, and when his shot isn’t falling, he isn’t much of an offensive threat, with his off the bounce game being very limited. He’s also been targeted in the past in pick-and-rolls, but at 6’7″, he at least has the size to deal with opposing ballhandlers and be sort of a disruption.</p><p>Nevertheless, $16 million per year is the going rate for heavy-volume marksmen in today’s NBA. That is around the same kind of money that the likes of Grayson Allen, Klay Thompson, Bogdan Bogdanovic and Max Strus are making, so it’s not like this was an egregious overpay for the Pistons.</p><p>This was an area of need for the Pistons, and they paid the going rate for a player who’s going to fill an important role for them this upcoming season. And while this signing is not a slam dunk of a win for the Pistons, but this was one they needed to make if they were to keep in step with their peers in what is shaping up to be a wide-open contending picture in the Eastern Conference.</p><p>Moreover, according to Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press, the second year on Robinson’s contract is <a href="https://www.freep.com/story/sports/nba/pistons/2025/07/01/detroit-pistons-trade-grade-duncan-robinson-nba-free-agency/84351270007/" rel="noopener">partially guaranteed</a> (making the third non-guaranteed), so the Pistons can simply cut him loose if he ends up struggling in the Motor City. Daniel has covered Auburn Athletics for the entirety of his time as a student, focusing on football, men's basketball, and baseball.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Miami Heat</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The Miami Heat have been without Andrew Wiggins and Duncan Robinson lately, but head coach Erik Spoelstra gave <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/heat-news-why-andrew-wiggins-fresh-miami-start-doesnt-erase-steve-kerr-warriors-history">updates on their status</a>.</p><p>Wiggins is getting closer to returning, but the Heat are trying to ease him <a href="https://www.sun-sentinel.com/2025/03/29/spoelstra-offers-updates-on-wiggins-robinson-heat-get-reinforcement/" rel="noopener">back to avoid further injury</a>.</p><p>“It’s been getting tight the last two games,” Spoelstra said via the Miami SunSentinel. “We feel this is the right step, right now. We will see how he progresses.”</p><p>“There’s been a lot of things this year that you can’t even explain, different guys going out at not the most ideal times. I know Wiggs just really wants to be out here. And everybody can see it – when he’s out there, he makes us different.”</p><p>Spoelstra described how important it is to not rush Wiggins through the recovery process.</p><p>“But we also have to be responsible right now and make sure it doesn’t turn into something else,” Spoelstra said. “By the time we got to the fourth quarter, it looked like he was gutting it out. With intensive treatment, his body should respond.”</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/heat-news-erik-spoelstra-touts-duncan-robinsons-ignitability-amid-lineup-change">Robinson’s injury is not serious</a> either and he will be able to return soon if its is handled properly, Spoelstra believes.</p><p>“It’s different than last year,” Spoelstra said. “We think we will be able to manage it. We want to be responsible and give as much treatment and then appropriate ramp-up. Now, the reason we left them back is they can do more work around the clock,” he said. “Our trainers seem encouraged. If we’re on a 10-game losing streak or if we’ve won seven straight, you got to keep that same energy because, like I preach to my teammates, you never know what can happen on the other side. You’re thinking about letting go of the rope. It’s just a matter of getting over the hump. Those statistics would go along with 12 rebounds, five assists, and two steals he had somewhat of a bright side to the team’s performance with the loss.</p><p>“It’s tough when you’re down dudes and still have a chance to win and it slips out of your hands,” Adebayo said after the loss on Wednesday night. “As you see we can hang with the best of them.”</p><p>“Early in the season, everyone was questioning my shot, what I need to do different,” Adebayo continued. “Nothing has changed. I’m still taking the same shots. At some point, the table has got to turn.”</p><h2><b>Emotional return for Heat star, team going through “pain” at the moment</b></h2><p>Despite the loss, it was a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/cleveland-cavaliers/cavs-news-kevin-love-legacy-emotional-cleveland-return">special moment for Heat veteran Kevin Love who got to return to Cleveland</a> where he won a championship in 2016 and played there from 2014-2023. This was his first game in the city playing for the Heat since he missed the previous two for personal reasons and a heel injury as he started the game with the injuries and <a href="https://x.com/NBA/status/1897444968093855893" rel="noopener">even gave him a tribute video.</a></p><p>“It was certainly emotional,” Love said. “Cleveland and Ohio will always mean a lot for me. Just a lot of love for a lot of people here. There’s significant improvement on both sides of the ball. Defensively, we’re playing way more consistently, making it tough. As Adebayo and Ware will take up a lot of space with their size, the shooting and improved passing of Robinson will work perfectly as he speaks on <a href="https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nba/miami-heat/article297803433.html" rel="noopener">trusting the process of head coach Erik Spoelstra</a> according to Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald.</p><p>“At this point, I’ve been playing for him for so long, I kind of see a move happening before it comes,” Robinson said. “Nothing surprises me at this point. And I also know he’s a Hall of Fame coach. I’m not questioning any moves he’s making. Anytime we can get him an easy one, that’s like gold for us. How much he exerts on defense, I want to try to make it easy for him. We are both constantly trying to read and figuring where spots in the defense are. Usually good things happen when we’re able to get it back to him.”</p><p>Looking at the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-kelel-ware-eye-popping-nba-feat-not-seen-1989-david-robinson">Heat’s first-round pick in Ware who has been impressing,</a> Robinson has nothing but praise for the 20-year-old who speaks on his presence as both running two-man actions are certain to be seen in the future.</p><p>“He [Ware] has so much vertical spacing, not that Bam doesn’t,” Robinson said. “His length and athleticism are really unique. There are moments you can throw it up there to him where they are not many guys in the league like that. He has a really good feel of getting out of screens and knowing when to screen and when to split out. While it was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-jimmy-butler-shares-honest-admission-about-form-in-first-game-back-from-injury">Heat star Jimmy Butler who led the way</a> during that game, it was star Duncan Robinson who made his mark with the starters, showing his versatility as head coach Erik Spoelstra pointed out his biggest strengths.</p><p>Robinson has been crucial to Miami for the last six seasons he’s been with them as the team’s best three-point shooter, but he’s added more to his arsenal since then on both sides of the ball. It was a seamless transition for Robinson going from the second unit to the starting lineup as Spoelstra said to ClutchPoints that he is “comfortable” playing with anybody on the team and cites his <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1859663154676150761" rel="noopener">“ignitability”</a> as a strength.</p><p>“He’s done both, and he’s done both those roles very well over the seven years,” Spoelstra said. “He’s comfortable playing with Jimmy and Bam. He also is comfortable developing a really good connection with K-Love [Kevin Love] and Jaime [Jaquez Jr.]. You know, off the bench at this point, you need all of it. I love his ignitability. And you know that’s coming to, Tyler’s shown that right now, Duncan has the ability to blow open games. Either way, Robinson does not seem to care about being labeled as a starter or a benchwarmer as long as he is a part of a winning basketball team.</p><p>If his name were to be called to the starting unit, though, it would not be much of a “huge adjustment,” as Robinson said to ClutchPoints.</p><p>“Not really a huge adjustment,” Robinson said. “I mean, I played with a lot of those guys for a lot of minutes, maybe not necessarily as a group, but I’ve shared the court a lot with Tyler [Herro] and Jimmy [Butler] and Bam [Adebayo] and Haywood [Highsmith] a lot over the years. So, you know, just good to get a win, obviously.”</p><p>“Yeah, I play just about every role there is to play,” Robinson continued. “Starting, off the bench, not playing. So obviously, I want to be out there in any capacity, whatever it requires.”</p><h2><b>Heat’s Duncan Robinson on the different lineup changes</b></h2><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-erik-spoelstra-identifies-important-key-behind-developing-miami-chemistry">chemistry of the Heat’s lineups</a> has been a narrative this season, especially with the original starting unit, but Robinson sees it as an overblown issue. However, he would acknowledge that finding the right rotations and those players working well with each other will be important to achieve the goals they are aiming for on offense and especially defense.</p><p>“We’re more caught up in just playing good basketball,” Robinson said. “We all like each other get along, that’s not really an issue. It’s more about just finding the way to be difficult to guard and to get stops. So finding groups that work and kind of mesh and blends is going to take a little bit of time and working through.”</p><p>In the aforementioned win over the 76ers, Robinson finished with 13 points on five for 14 shooting, which included an uncharacteristic two for 10 from beyond the arch. Still, it was a solid month of November for the 30-year-old as he averaged 12.6 points per game while shooting 42.7 percent from the field and 41. 7 percent from deep.</p><p>At any rate, the Heat have not been playing up to their liking as they are currently 6-7 on the season as even Robinson said that they are not up to their standard.</p><p>“Definitely not where we want to be,” Robinson said. “We know we’re capable of better and more. However, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-duncan-robinson-sheds-light-on-concerning-back-injury-after-miami-crashes-out-of-2024-nba-playoffs">the Heat shooter would go into the specifics of the injury</a> as Robinson updates how he feels heading into the 2024-25 campaign.</p><p>Last season, Robinson missed a significant amount of time due to what was labeled as “left facet syndrome” which impacted his back as it was a hinderance missing nine of the last 14 games for Miami. Despite playing all five games of the Heat’s stint in the first round of the playoffs, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/heat-news-why-erik-spoelstra-has-given-kevin-love-duncan-robinson-limited-playoff-minutes-vs-celtics">it was clear that the Heat star was limited.</a></p><p>But he has now revealed that not only does Robinson <a href="https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nba/miami-heat/article292562364.html" rel="noopener">“feel great,”</a> but it seems he has made a full recovery according to Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald.</p><p>“I feel great,” Robinson said Monday. “We took all the necessary steps, seeing who we needed to see. Not restricted in any way. Have [not been limited] for the better part of eight weeks. Playing pickup. No limitations.”</p><p>“It’s still a focus and emphasis in terms of what I’m doing in the weight room. [But it] hasn’t given me any issues,” Robinson continued. “It was a rude awakening turning 30 [this past April] and having back issues within a month. While he is known for his elite ability to shoot from deep, there has been an effort to be a more all-around player as the 30-year old said that he asks himself “How can I come back a more dynamic overall player?”</p><p>“Just becoming a better overall player, more complete player,” Robinson said. “Huge emphasis this summer is my body and focusing on strength, stability. Continue to grow with more than my shooting, decision making elements.”</p><p>In 69 games last season, Robinson averaged 12.9 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game while shooting 45 percent from the field and 39.5 percent from three-point range. He has continued to improve in all areas of his game like on defense and being more three-dimensional on offense rather than shooting the ball from deep which is still a huge asset.</p><h2><b>Duncan Robinson spoke before about severity of back injury</b></h2><p>Robinson spoke about the back injury before, specifically right after the season during exit interviews how he was trying to push through the issue and doesn’t have any regrets in doing so. He would cite a game played by the Heat against the Philadelphia 76ers on March 18 as the <a href="https://x.com/ZachWeinberger/status/1786474911139066053" rel="noopener">“inflection point”</a> of the injury.</p><p>“I don’t want to get too much into it because just having a conversation tends to lean towards an excuse,” Robinson said. “Towards the end of the season, really that Philly game and it’s something I’ve had to deal with prior to that as well. But then obviously, that Philly game sort of being an inflection point, the first one in Philly. There are a million different thoughts, theories about how to proceed, the best route, best way to handle it.</p><p>“I was just going to try to do whatever I could it to be available,” Robinson continued. “In hindsight, you might be able to, depending on how you how you take it or approach it, people probably paint a picture of what I should have done this out, whatever. I certainly don’t have any regrets. For us, first and foremost, obviously, but then for me, also dealing with emotions, frustrations, challenges that I’ve been fortunate enough to not deal with, as far in my career. But going through those, and I learned a lot about that process.”</p><p>He would say back in May that “rest” is what is mostly needed for his health so he can come back even stronger for the upcoming campaign.</p><p>“It’s just rest, and it’s not something that I don’t think anybody anticipates it will linger and last,” Robinson said to the media in May during his exit interview. “The challenge with rest in the NBA season is you play every other night. And that was ultimately it. I think a lot of guys in that locker room are this way so I’m I’m trying to pay myself to some unique individual but like, I didn’t want to rest essentially, I wanted to try to give in to whatever I could to the team and some days it was more limited than others and that’s just the nature of what I was going through. So like I said, it’s a learning experience a lot of ways.”</p><h2><b>Duncan Robinson speaks on the motivations of the Heat this season</b></h2><p>Fast forward through the summer and the season is just over a month away as the Heat look to once again surprise people as this time around, they are anticipated on being down in the standings. Robinson has obviously noticed the “narrative” around the team and talks about how there is a chip on the shoulders of every player on Miami.</p><p>“I think it matters,” Robinson said. “People take notice of it. It’s a narrative around the facility that nobody thinks we’re going to do anything. As long as I’ve been here, that’s a place of comfort for us [in terms of the team being underestimated]. We’ve been there plenty of times, and we know how to move forward from it. At the very least, it will set the tone for training camp and ultimately be a springboard for the start of the season.”</p><p>The Heat look to bounce back after last season where they had a 46-36 record which put them at the eighth seed for the second straight season, but each year ended differently as compared to an NBA Finals appearance in 2022, it was a first-round exit last season.
