The pair danced to Cha Cha to “Dancing Machine” by Jackson 5.</p><p>“I enjoyed your dance. Keep it up. You’re good!” one fan responded to his performance.</p><p>“You know, even tho they didn’t have much time to rehearse and he forgot a couple steps, Dwight def knows the golden rule of performing: when you forget what to do, never stop entertaining!” a fan commented on their dance video. “It sucks that we missed out on what probably would’ve been another awesome dance if they’d had enough time to practice but hey, I still enjoyed what they did! He’s got such a fun attitude out there on the dance floor.”</p><p>“I know it he missed some steps, but I honestly didn’t notice it too much. The enjoyment on his face always distracts me from any technical missteps,” a fan reacted to their performance.</p><p>“I know he ‘technically’ didn’t do well, but d*mn, you could tell he was having fun. Towns, a key piece of the Timberwolves’s ascension to contenders in the West, is now heading East as the Knicks look to become the primary challenger to the dominance of the defending champion Boston Celtics. There are mixed feeling about the trade, but<a href="https://x.com/DwightHoward/status/1839854026072174788" rel="noopener"> former NBA star Dwight Howard believes that</a> this is the move that can take the Knicks to the NBA Finals.</p><p>“The Knicks might [win] next year,” Dwight posted on his X account in the minutes following the announcement of the trade.</p><p>The trade was finalized on Friday night, sending Towns to the Knicks in exchange for Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo and a first-round pick. Per Ian BegleyThe Knicks have wanted an All-Star caliber acquisition to fortify their chances as a title contender.</p><p>“Knicks, per league sources in touch with team, feel they had a great opportunity to address their biggest need at C in trading for a 4-time All Star &amp; 2-time All NBA player in Karl Anthony Towns,” Begley reported on X, formerly Twitter. “They see Towns, 28, as a great fit with their other high-end talent and someone who complements the rest of the core well, those league sources say.”</p><p>The Knicks have already been active on the trade market, securing Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets. Now, they have a 20 points per game+ scorer who flourished as a second-option on the Timberwolves, especially as Anthony Edwards ascended. Dwight Howard’s theory on their viability as a contender certainly can prove to be true.</p><p>But, everyone didn’t think the trade was good for New York. Former NBA standout <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/knicks-news-ex-nba-player-suggests-ny-will-regret-karl-anthony-towns-trade">Evan Turner took to his X account to pan the trade</a> and warn the Knicks that they’d regret it.</p><p>“New York, Yall gone wanna keep [Donte] and Julius,” Turner posted.</p><p>This shocking move will surely draw a range of reactions from around the world of basketball. In this latest installment, he and Shaq shared Instagram comments to X, along with Howard’s recent appearance on the Above The Rim podcast <a href="https://x.com/DwightHoward/status/1839723762318749826" rel="noopener">with a caption</a> that read: “The fact that we can’t end this one sided beef is petty.”</p><p>“I’m saying, what was I doing? Why do I have to ask (Shaq)? Not Warner Brothers? I’ve reached out to Shaq myself on multiple occasions because I’m like ‘what’s the issue?’ Like, I understand the competitive side, but we don’t even compete against each other, and it’s like two different two different stratospheres. Like, he played, he did his thing, nobody’s ever taken that away, and I did my thing. Like Ben Simmons’ lack of confidence or Rudy Gobert’s “soft” style, O’Neal clashes with Howard’s style of play, perhaps even the way he carries himself. The Superman outfit at the dunk contest may have been the genesis of the beef, along with the comparisons like their shared Orlando Magic to Los Angeles Lakers career path.</p><p>We forget the year Shaq and Howard made the 2007 All-Star team and <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9LmHXXWiJs" rel="noopener">had a little impromptu dance-off</a>.  At that time, O’Neal was still close to the top of his game and coming off his fourth NBA title with the Miami Heat. There didn’t appear to be any problems at that time.</p><p>But the twilight of Shaq’s career came fast, right around when Howard’s career took off. By 2008, the Heat traded Shaq to the Suns and he was playing less than 30 minutes per game. By the time of the 2010 dunk contest and Howard’s Superman costume, O’Neal probably grew tired of the questions from the media about a torch passing, just as his own game was slowing down.</p><p>How did that beef persist for more than a decade? So it stands to reason that fans would throw shade at him as well. Well one particular social media troll who criticized Dwight Howard’s post game got more than he bargained for with a response from the former NBA star.</p><p>The random social media troll account was responding to a claim Dwight Howard made about possibly being a better player than Patrick Ewing. The account told Howard that, “You had no post moves lol.”</p><p>Howard then <a href="https://x.com/DwightHoward/status/1837643167161897456" rel="noopener">responded to the anonymous account</a> by saying, “I wonder why rappers always would say, ‘Dwight Howard in the post,’ but ok if you believe that do your research &amp; stop listening to media.” Howard then posted a few links of his old highlights were he most certainly had a post game.</p><p>The whole incident began with former NBA player Nick Young making the claim that Kevin Garnett was better than Tim Duncan and that Kobe Bryant was better than Michael Jordan. Young claimed that people are just too afraid to admit it. That’s where Howard chimed in with himself being better than Patrick Ewing.</p><h2><b>Dwight Howard was an NBA star<br></b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Dwight-Howard-goes-up-for-a-shot.jpg"><figcaption>Kelley L Cox-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>While today’s fans often have short memories, or maybe were just too young to remember, Dwight Howard was a star at one point in the NBA and had a legit post game. He was a highly-touted prospect coming out of high school and he made the jump directly to the NBA, bypassing college.</p><p>Howard made an immediate impact for the Orlando Magic as a rookie starting in all 82 games and averaging 12.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocked shots. By his third year in the league, he was an All-Star which kicked off a string of eight consecutive All-Star appearances.</p><p>During his 18-year NBA career, Howard played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Washington Wizards and Philadelphia 76ers in addition to the Magic. During that span he won three straight Defensive Player of the Year awards. He was one of the most glaring omissions from the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team.</p><p>Howard last played in the NBA with the Lakers during the 2021-22 season. He played in 60 games that season. It wasn’t as easy of a road as many predicted it would be <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/pacers-tyrese-haliburton-reveals-length-of-team-usa-recruiting-efforts">for Team USA</a>, who had to survive several close calls, but ultimately, America was able to add yet another gold medal to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-lebron-james-claims-win-olympic-medal-other-sports">its Olympics collection.</a></p><p>James was the only member of this year’s Team USA squad, which has since become known as “The Avengers,” to also be a member of 2008’s Redeem Team, which won Gold at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, redeeming the team’s 2004 Bronze medal finish in Greece.</p><p><a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1830819359415214449" rel="noopener">Another member of</a> that 2008 squad was former NBA All-Star Dwight Howard, who recently took to Gilbert Arenas’ Gil’s Arena Show podcast to compare the two squads.</p><p>“I’m going with our team,” said Howard. “We’ve got a prime Kobe, we’ve got LeBron, we’ve got bald head D Wade. I’ll go ’08. We were young. You’re talking about LeBron at 23? Me, I’m 22. Melo at 24? Chris Bosh at 24? Oh my Gosh.”</p><p>Indeed, the United States dominated the Olympics in 2008, not really having to encounter any close calls, at least not nearly as close at the 17 point deficit they had to overcome in this year’s semifinal game vs the Serbian National Team.</p><h2><b>Where does the 2024 Team USA squad rank all time?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/James-cheering.jpg"><figcaption>Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Many consider to be the greatest Team USA squad ever assembled to be the 1992 Dream Team, which dominated the Olympics and won gold. By name recognition alone, those people may have an argument, as icons like Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Charles Barkley, and more all suited up that year. However, it’s important to note that both Bird and Johnson were well past their primes at this point–in fact, Bird had already retired, and Johnson would only have one more brief stint with the Lakers later on in the 1990s. That Team USA iteration also played against an international landscape that featured virtually zero NBA talent, a far cry from what we see today.</p><p>This 2024 squad also clearly featured a plethora of talent–if a player like Jayson Tatum, who just was the best player on an NBA championship team, has nights where he can’t even crack the rotation, then you’ve got quite the team on your hands.</p><p>Of course, there will never be a clear answer to who was actually the “best” Team USA squad was, but it’s still clearly an entertaining debate to have.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Her hustle on the boards have led to critics accusing Reese of stat-padding by purposely missing easy shots at the rim.</p><p>The former No. 1 pick himself <a href="https://x.com/barstoolindy/status/1830770001445319061" rel="noopener">got in on the jokes</a> while watching a player hustle to grab rebounds off his own misses at the rim. In the loss, Reese scored 17 points and grabbed 19 rebounds, including her 405th of the season.</p><p>Still, critics, including Dwight Howard, focus more on Angel Reese’s offensive shortcomings, particularly her <a href="https://stats.wnba.com/player/1642291/shooting/" rel="noopener">shooting averages</a> in the paint. How he approached it is where he there is plenty of room for interpretation.</p><p>Arenas said that Kobe Bryant essentially copied the post #45 era Michael Jordan who relied mostly on fadeaways and outside shots in comparison to the previous iteration of ‘Air’ Jordan.</p><p>What Arenas missed is that the young version of Kobe Bryant bore plenty of similarities to the young version of Jordan, with his high-flying acrobatics and Slam Dunk Competition win as a rookie.</p><p>Howard didn’t elaborate on his comments, but Bryant shot the ball from a farther distance than the Bulls legend on many occasions and seemed to have a more advanced shooting range in general. Jordan could possibly have had that shot in his arsenal, but the NBA of his era didn’t allow for such shots to be taken nearly as often.</p><p>Bryant definitely had a style all his own, even though he admitted he mimicked Jordan and “copied” his moves on his path to becoming an NBA legend.</p><h2><b>Future of Lakers’ ‘Showtime’ Franchise </b></h2><p>The Lakers’ ‘Showtime’ franchise still has LeBron James, Austin Reaves, Anthony Davis and the novelty of second rounder Bronny James, who is currently waiting in the wings to hit the court alongside his famous father.</p><p>The Lakers don’t have a prime Kobe Bryant or prime Michael Jordan on their roster but they do have the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, James, who appears to have found the fountain of youth in terms of his productivity and playing skills.</p><p>Howard’s take will echo in the minds of fans for years to come. But during the 2023-24 season, Gobert’s arrival finally bore the fruit that the Timberwolves front office had envisioned when they first brought him in. They won 56 games last season and earned the three-seed in the loaded Western Conference, and they made it all the way to the Conference Finals — with <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/timberwolves-news-rudy-gobert-2023-24-nba-defensive-player-of-the-year">Gobert anchoring the league’s best defense</a>.</p><p>Gobert’s efforts in being the backbone of the Timberwolves was rewarded with his fourth Defensive Player of the Year award, beating out fellow esteemed defenders Victor Wembanyama and Bam Adebayo in the process. However, many continue to believe that Gobert’s defensive impact is way overblown. One of those who parrot this notion is a former multiple-time DPOY in his own right, Dwight Howard, as he believes that Gobert <a href="https://twitter.com/ClutchPoints/status/1829325850996519287" rel="noopener">did not deserve</a> to win the prestigious award as many times as he has.</p><p>“I don’t think he deserved those Defensive Player of the Years like he got them. I feel like he’s a great team defender but for what he did to get those Defensive Player of the Years, I don’t see it. He’s 7’2″. So when you 7’2″ and you’re playing with athletic guys, you don’t have to do nothing but clean up their mistakes or just being big in the paint,” Howard added.</p><p>But for Howard, he wants to make one thing clear. He was impressed with the strides Rudy Gobert made last season with the Timberwolves. But as far as his previous DPOY wins in 2018, 2019, and 2021? Howard wants to credit the Utah Jazz system for making Gobert the de facto winner during those years.</p><p>“This year, he was actually up in the pick and rolls. He was moving his feet. He was talking more and he was actually being aggressive. The years before that, I think they just gave it to him because of his team defense.”</p><h2>Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert continues to be an easy target for critics</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Draymond-Green.jpg"></figure><p>Rudy Gobert is such a magnet for criticism that he’s uniting foes Shaquille O’Neal and Dwight Howard in their perception of the Timberwolves center. Perhaps it’s Gobert’s demeanor on the court, or his lack of an offensive game, that irks his fellow big men — with <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/olympics-news-draymond-green-trolls-rudy-gobert-joel-embiid-incident">Draymond Green being his biggest detractor</a> these days.</p><p>Gobert’s stint with France during the 2024 Paris Olympics did not help matters at all. After being called out by Evan Fournier for running an outdated offense, head coach Vincent Collet <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/olympics-news-france-rudy-gobert-evan-fournier-canada">decided to eschew the Gobert-Victor Wembanyama pairing</a> at the Timberwolves center’s expense.</p><p>This change appeared to breathe new life into the French national basketball team. After going through an uninspiring group stage effort, France went all the way to the gold medal game, knocking out Canada and Germany — two podium finishers during the 2023 FIBA World Cup — in the process.</p><p>This just means that there is a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/10-moments-rudy-gobert-didnt-look-like-a-four-time-dpoy-winner">clear countermeasure</a> for the kind of defense Gobert provides. The case was dismissed on Monday in Gwinnett County Court, Georgia, by Stephen Harper, who had initially filed the suit against Howard in July 2023.</p><p>One of Howard’s attorneys informed ESPN that Harper did not receive any payment to withdraw the lawsuit. According to the court filing, Harper dismissed all his claims against Howard with prejudice, meaning he cannot refile a lawsuit on the same claims in the future.</p><p>Harper’s legal team did not immediately provide a statement in response to inquiries. Once there, he alleged that another individual, identified as “Kitty,” was also present, and that both Howard and Kitty compelled him to participate in sexual activities.</p><p>Harper submitted screenshots of the purported Instagram conversation along with an Uber receipt indicating his trip to Howard’s residence on the night of the alleged incident.</p><p>Additionally, Harper’s complaint included claims of “intentional infliction of emotional distress” and false imprisonment against Howard.</p><p>According to a July 2022 incident report from the Gwinnett County Police Department, which ESPN acquired, Harper reported the incident to the police a year later, but no charges were filed.</p><h2><b>Howard’s response to complaints against him</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Dwight-Howard-watching-a-game.jpg"><figcaption>Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Howard denied the accusations, asserting in an October filing that he and Harper were involved in “consensual sexual activity.”</p><p>In a December filing, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dwight-howard-sexual-assault-lawsuit">Howard contended that the allegations</a> were unfounded and requested the court to dismiss the lawsuit immediately without proceeding to trial. However, the judge rejected his request in February.</p><p>In October 2023, Howard’s lawyers alleged that Harper was attempting to extort money from their client in a statement to ESPN. Howard also addressed the accusations in an Instagram Live broadcast that month, denying the claims.</p><p>“Stop worrying about it,” Howard said. “I ain’t gotta deny it, I don’t gotta talk about none of that crap. This s— didn’t even happen. You worried about the wrong stuff. That’s why it’s called an accusation. Allegedly. Come on, man,” said Howard.</p><h2><b>Just a case of unrequited love</b></h2><p>In December 2023, Howard’s lawyers submitted a motion to dismiss the lawsuit, describing it as “frivolous” and “a classic case of unrequited love.” However, a judge rejected the motion in February.</p><p>“After one consensual evening together, Mr. Howard was no longer interested in keeping Mr. Harper’s company,” according to Dwight Howard’s attorneys.</p><p>In a January response, Harper’s lawyers argued that the lawsuit had “nothing to do with unrequited love” and urged the judge to disregard Howard’s attempts “to escape the consequences of his actions,” allowing Harper to present his case to a jury.</p><p>The 38-year old Howard last played for the Taiwan Mustangs in The Asian Tournament alongside DeMarcus Cousins and Quinn Cook.</p><p>Prior to this, Howard was chosen as the No. 1 overall pick by the Orlando Magic in the 2004 NBA Draft. Howard spent 18 seasons in the NBA and he played for seven different teams. He is most well-known for his long stint with the Orlando Magic to begin his career. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/celtics-news-dwight-howard-makes-wild-offer-to-jayson-tatum">Howard played for the</a> Magic for eight years before joining the Los Angeles Lakers. He then hopped around for about 10 years before calling it a career in the NBA, and he now plays for the Taiwan Mustangs.</p><p>On a recent episode of <i>Above the Rim W/ DH 12, </i>Dwight Howard went in depth about his decision to leave the NBA. After his NBA career ended, Howard joined the Taoyuan Leopards. He played one year there, and he is now with the Mustangs. At the end of the day, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/most-notable-nba-players-to-play-overseas-after-nba">Howard wanted to hoop</a>, and he was sick of the lies.</p><p>“At that point <a href="https://youtu.be/DxoD29IyoFI?t=4020" rel="noopener">I was fed up</a>, I was fed up with all the cap and the lies,” Howard said during the podcast. “So I was like man I’d rather just go somewhere and hoop because it’s just too many lies, and then as much work as I’m putting in to play year after year and sacrificing my family time. Like bro trying to maintain a body takes a lot bro, and I’m doing this for 18, 19 years, straight getting up at the same time training, I can’t even do stuff with my kids because I’m making sure I’m in the gym, making sure I’m straight, and I’m doing this to sacrifice for the teams to tell me I ain’t going to play or this, that, or the third, nah, I’d rather go overseas, get my little bag, hoop like I want to hoop, and come back home with my family.”</p><p>Dwight Howard did just that. He went overseas, and now, he is hooping.</p><h2><b>Dwight Howard admits that the NBA made him depressed</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Dwight-Howard.jpg"><figcaption>© Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>It can be difficult for a player that was a star in their prime start to fall off once they get older. Dwight Howard admitted that he has struggled with it, but he’s doing a good job of having a good perspective on things.</p><p>“I’ve been depressed plenty of times sitting at the crib, I’m watching film of myself hoop like, I can still f**king hoop bro this s**t is crazy,” Howard said. “Then I’m like, I’m not going to let this take away my joy and my happiness, I did so much, I’m traveling, I’m being able to hoop around the world, no I can’t let it take away my joy. The NBA stuff will have you depressed, it will have your joy gone.”</p><p>Everything hasn’t been easy for Howard, but it sounds like he is doing a good job of looking at the positives of the situation. Every player gets older and it becomes harder to keep up in the NBA, but he had a great career, and now he is still playing basketball at the professional level.
