Well, you've come to the right place.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>When the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-news-bring-back-veteran-eric-gordon-guerschon-yabusele-exit">Philadelphia 76ers re-signed Eric Gordon</a> in their pursuit of getting younger and more athletic, it turned heads around the City of Brotherly Love… at least until they ended up selecting <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-news-vj-edgecombe-emotional-draft-reaction-no-electricity-revelation">VJ Edgecombe with the third overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft</a>.</p><p>Now granted, Gordon isn’t quite <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/nba-news-kyle-lowry-draymond-green-amazon">Kyle Lowry, who has already accepted an analyst position</a> despite holding a 15-man roster spot on a professional sports team, but Gordon is about to enter his 18th season in the NBA and wasn’t exactly a high-usage player for the 76ers in 2024-25, even when his shooting was on point.</p><p>While Gordon still thinks he can help an NBA team win in 2025, he also acknowledged with reporters on Tuesday that his job is to <a href="https://x.com/PompeyOnSixers/status/1975648922556137962" rel="noopener">partially mentor young talent</a> like Edgecombe, whom he has already shared the court with on the Bahemian National team.</p><p>“At my age, in my phase of my career, you have to mentor. That’s without a doubt. I’ve been around VJ the most. I’ve known him for quite a while. Of course, I will be looking forward to not just helping him, but also all the young guys,” Gordon told Keith Pompey.</p><p>“But when I’m in the game, I’m going to have to do my part: Knock down shots, spread the floor, let guys operate the length [of the court] on their own. But when I’m out there, I’ve got to knock down shots, and I’ve got to look forward to making things happen.”</p><p>In 2024-25, Gordon had his worst statistical season as a pro, averaging just<a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/gordoer01.html" rel="noopener"> 6.8 points in 19.7 minutes of action a night</a> over just 39 games. Still, he shot 40.9 percent from deep, even if his defensive rating was tied for the worst of his career. Now, the 36-year-old will be sidelined for a while.</p><h2><b>Eric Gordon out for at least three months after wrist surgery</b></h2><p>In all likelihood, Gordon’s season is done. The 76ers playing basketball into May seems extremely unlikely. They’re 20-38 and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/76ers-news-joel-embiid-seeking-alternative-options-knee-injury">aren’t sure when Joel Embiid will play again</a>. Gordon was one of the team’s first signings in its busy offseason and he has a player option for next season worth nearly $3.5 million.</p><p>Gordon’s three-point percentage of 40.9 led the Sixers this season. In 39 games, including 13 starts, he averaged 6.8 points, 1.7 assists and 1.2 rebounds per contest. His minutes were drying up as the team started to lean towards younger talent but he went out strongly, shooting a blistering 52.6 percent from deep in January.</p><p>Making matters worse is the fact that one of the 76ers’ other good shooters, Guerschon Yabusele, is dealing with injuries to both eyes. He missed their loss to the New York Knicks. Jared McCain’s season-ending injury has left a bad shooting team even more depleted of shooting.</p><p>Quentin Grimes, a 36.2-percent shooter from beyond the arc, has filled in nicely as a starter and Justin Edwards, a 36.9 percent shooter from deep, has proven to be a solid option as well. After getting examined by numerous specialists and missing the last five games, he will go under the knife to fix the issue. He graduated from Marist College in May of 2022 and has written for TheKnicksWall.com and CenterFieldMarist.com in the past.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>PHILADELPHIA — As the Philadelphia 76ers <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-news-tyrese-maxey-believes-philly-good-energy-all-star-break">try to get back on track in the 2024-25 season</a>, Eric Gordon is trying to work his way back from a wrist injury that could sideline him for a long time.</p><p>Gordon has missed four of the Sixers’ last seven games, including the last two before the All-Star break. Those last two absences were the result of a right wrist sprain that Nick Nurse said is <a href="https://x.com/BySamDiGiovanni/status/1892006166999228916" rel="noopener">still in need of answers</a>.</p><p>“He’s seen two specialists and they still don’t know what to do. There’s a problem with it,” Nurse said ahead of the Sixers’ matchup with the Boston Celtics. “They’re trying to decide the right course of action with it to get it better. We’re just unclear on that right now, so we’ve probably got to see one or two more people and get some more opinions before we can get to some proper steps and [a] plan of action.”</p><h2><b>Eric Gordon dealing with tricky wrist injury</b></h2><p>Nurse said that Gordon’s injury has the potential to sideline him for a while. With 28 games left to go in the regular season, the veteran sharpshooter is on the verge of missing most of the remainder of the season.</p><p>“It’s very concerning because I think there is a scenario that could hold him out for a long time,” the 76ers’ head coach said. “I think there’s a scenario that doesn’t, as well, so it gets concerning whenever that’s on the table.”</p><p>Gordon has appeared in 39 games for the Sixers, including 13 starts, and has averaged 6.8 points per game while shooting 40.9 percent from deep.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/76ers-news-lonnie-walker-breaks-silence-on-making-nba-return-with-philadelphia">The 76ers are adding Lonnie Walker IV</a> to shore up their wing depth and retain some three-point shooting in Gordon’s absence. Nurse believes the young wing should be ready to go with his new team by its next game. Gordon spoke about how he and Rose were supposed to team up.</p><p>“Me and D-Rose, we were supposed to go to the same college,” Gordon said. “It was either Illinois, maybe IU, maybe Memphis and we heard a lot of things in Illinois, what was going on there. But my heart was always in Indiana. I always wanted to play at IU. It all worked out in the end. I went to IU, he went to Memphis but I thought we were both going to go to IU at one point.”</p><p>Gordon was more than impressive for Indiana basketball during his time there. He averaged <a href="https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/eric-gordon-1.html" rel="noopener">20.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists</a> and shot 33.7% from three. Gordon also garnered the Big-10 Rookie of the Year and was a member of the 2007-08 All-Big-10 Team. He eventually went seventh overall to the Los Angeles Clippers. As <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/76ers-news-eric-gordon-joining-philly-paul-george-signing-looms">Gordon continues his career</a> with the Philadelphia 76ers, his words still reminisce with basketball fans.</p><h2><b>What would Indiana basketball have been with Derrick Rose, Eric Gordon, and Jeff Teague?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Eric-Gordon-and-Jeff-Teague-almost-teamed-up-with-Derrick-Rose-at-Indiana-University.jpg"><figcaption>© Brad Rempel-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>On the flip side, Rose dominated during his time with the Tigers. He averaged <a href="https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/derrick-rose-1.html" rel="noopener">14.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.7 assists</a>. Although his numbers aren’t impressive like Gordon’s, he took Memphis to the National Championship game. Rose unfortunately lost to the Kansas Jayhawks but a freshman taking a team to the final game is beyond conference.</p><p>Teague immediately followed Gordon’s response and shared what Indiana basketball head coach Kelvin Sampson had in mind.</p><p>“They tried to put us in a three-guard lineup,” Teague said. “I remember Coach (Kelvin) Sampson called me and he was like I’m getting you, I’m getting Derrick Rose, I’m getting Eric Gordon. I said why the f**k you think I’m going there. You can hang up this call. Yeah alright, Wake Forest here I come. I was like no way. He called me and I was like Eric’s going to Illinois, he was like not on my f**ing watch, he literally said that.”</p><p>This is a phenomenal example of what could have been. As teams go smaller, a three-guard look wouldn’t cause any concern. Also, Teague, Rose, and Gordon’s skill sets complement each other nicely. Even with Indiana losing in the Round of 64, adding Rose and Teague could have pushed the Hoosiers to possibly the National Championship game. Regardless, that trio could have been not only exciting but historic in the new age of college basketball.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
