Well, you've come to the right place.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>When the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-news-bring-back-veteran-eric-gordon-guerschon-yabusele-exit">Philadelphia 76ers re-signed Eric Gordon</a> in their pursuit of getting younger and more athletic, it turned heads around the City of Brotherly Love… at least until they ended up selecting <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/76ers-news-vj-edgecombe-emotional-draft-reaction-no-electricity-revelation">VJ Edgecombe with the third overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft</a>.</p><p>Now granted, Gordon isn’t quite <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/nba-news-kyle-lowry-draymond-green-amazon">Kyle Lowry, who has already accepted an analyst position</a> despite holding a 15-man roster spot on a professional sports team, but Gordon is about to enter his 18th season in the NBA and wasn’t exactly a high-usage player for the 76ers in 2024-25, even when his shooting was on point.</p><p>While Gordon still thinks he can help an NBA team win in 2025, he also acknowledged with reporters on Tuesday that his job is to <a href="https://x.com/PompeyOnSixers/status/1975648922556137962" rel="noopener">partially mentor young talent</a> like Edgecombe, whom he has already shared the court with on the Bahemian National team.</p><p>“At my age, in my phase of my career, you have to mentor. That’s without a doubt. I’ve been around VJ the most. I’ve known him for quite a while. Of course, I will be looking forward to not just helping him, but also all the young guys,” Gordon told Keith Pompey.</p><p>“But when I’m in the game, I’m going to have to do my part: Knock down shots, spread the floor, let guys operate the length [of the court] on their own. But when I’m out there, I’ve got to knock down shots, and I’ve got to look forward to making things happen.”</p><p>In 2024-25, Gordon had his worst statistical season as a pro, averaging just<a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/gordoer01.html" rel="noopener"> 6.8 points in 19.7 minutes of action a night</a> over just 39 games. Still, he shot 40.9 percent from deep, even if his defensive rating was tied for the worst of his career. He graduated from Marist College in May of 2022 and has written for TheKnicksWall.com and CenterFieldMarist.com in the past.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The Philadelphia 76ers will be without sharpshooting guard Eric Gordon for the remainder of the regular season after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/76ers-news-eric-gordon-guerschon-yabusele-dealt-tough-injury-updates">undergoing an operation on his right wrist</a>.</p><p>“Eric Gordon underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his right wrist yesterday,” the team announced on Thursday. “He will be re-evaluated in approximately three months and updates on his status will be provided as appropriate.”</p><p>Gordon saw several specialists to determine the issue in his wrist, one of several injuries he dealt with throughout his first season in Philadelphia. Now, the 36-year-old will be sidelined for a while.</p><h2><b>Eric Gordon out for at least three months after wrist surgery</b></h2><p>In all likelihood, Gordon’s season is done. The 76ers playing basketball into May seems extremely unlikely. They’re 20-38 and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/76ers-news-joel-embiid-seeking-alternative-options-knee-injury">aren’t sure when Joel Embiid will play again</a>. Gordon was one of the team’s first signings in its busy offseason and he has a player option for next season worth nearly $3.5 million.</p><p>Gordon’s three-point percentage of 40.9 led the Sixers this season. In 39 games, including 13 starts, he averaged 6.8 points, 1.7 assists and 1.2 rebounds per contest. His minutes were drying up as the team started to lean towards younger talent but he went out strongly, shooting a blistering 52.6 percent from deep in January.</p><p>Making matters worse is the fact that one of the 76ers’ other good shooters, Guerschon Yabusele, is dealing with injuries to both eyes. He missed their loss to the New York Knicks. Jared McCain’s season-ending injury has left a bad shooting team even more depleted of shooting.</p><p>Quentin Grimes, a 36.2-percent shooter from beyond the arc, has filled in nicely as a starter and Justin Edwards, a 36.9 percent shooter from deep, has proven to be a solid option as well. While the Joel Embiid injury saga continues, Eric Gordon and Guerschon Yabusele are also dealing with tricky injuries.</p><p>Gordon will undergo surgery on his sprained right wrist, <a href="https://x.com/BySamDiGiovanni/status/1894515873559302332" rel="noopener">the team announced on Tuesday</a>. After getting examined by numerous specialists and missing the last five games, he will go under the knife to fix the issue. The veteran sharpshooter does not have a timeline for his return at the moment.</p><p>Yabusele will not play in the Sixers’ matchup with the New York Knicks on Wednesday after being hit in the face by Josh Giddey on Monday and sustaining injuries to both eyes. Those last two absences were the result of a right wrist sprain that Nick Nurse said is <a href="https://x.com/BySamDiGiovanni/status/1892006166999228916" rel="noopener">still in need of answers</a>.</p><p>“He’s seen two specialists and they still don’t know what to do. There’s a problem with it,” Nurse said ahead of the Sixers’ matchup with the Boston Celtics. “They’re trying to decide the right course of action with it to get it better. We’re just unclear on that right now, so we’ve probably got to see one or two more people and get some more opinions before we can get to some proper steps and [a] plan of action.”</p><h2><b>Eric Gordon dealing with tricky wrist injury</b></h2><p>Nurse said that Gordon’s injury has the potential to sideline him for a while. With 28 games left to go in the regular season, the veteran sharpshooter is on the verge of missing most of the remainder of the season.</p><p>“It’s very concerning because I think there is a scenario that could hold him out for a long time,” the 76ers’ head coach said. “I think there’s a scenario that doesn’t, as well, so it gets concerning whenever that’s on the table.”</p><p>Gordon has appeared in 39 games for the Sixers, including 13 starts, and has averaged 6.8 points per game while shooting 40.9 percent from deep.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/76ers-news-lonnie-walker-breaks-silence-on-making-nba-return-with-philadelphia">The 76ers are adding Lonnie Walker IV</a> to shore up their wing depth and retain some three-point shooting in Gordon’s absence. Gordon spoke about how he and Rose were supposed to team up.</p><p>“Me and D-Rose, we were supposed to go to the same college,” Gordon said. “It was either Illinois, maybe IU, maybe Memphis and we heard a lot of things in Illinois, what was going on there. But my heart was always in Indiana. I always wanted to play at IU. It all worked out in the end. I went to IU, he went to Memphis but I thought we were both going to go to IU at one point.”</p><p>Gordon was more than impressive for Indiana basketball during his time there. He averaged <a href="https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/eric-gordon-1.html" rel="noopener">20.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists</a> and shot 33.7% from three. Gordon also garnered the Big-10 Rookie of the Year and was a member of the 2007-08 All-Big-10 Team. He eventually went seventh overall to the Los Angeles Clippers. Although his numbers aren’t impressive like Gordon’s, he took Memphis to the National Championship game. Rose unfortunately lost to the Kansas Jayhawks but a freshman taking a team to the final game is beyond conference.</p><p>Teague immediately followed Gordon’s response and shared what Indiana basketball head coach Kelvin Sampson had in mind.</p><p>“They tried to put us in a three-guard lineup,” Teague said. “I remember Coach (Kelvin) Sampson called me and he was like I’m getting you, I’m getting Derrick Rose, I’m getting Eric Gordon. I said why the f**k you think I’m going there. You can hang up this call. Yeah alright, Wake Forest here I come. I was like no way. He called me and I was like Eric’s going to Illinois, he was like not on my f**ing watch, he literally said that.”</p><p>This is a phenomenal example of what could have been. As teams go smaller, a three-guard look wouldn’t cause any concern. Also, Teague, Rose, and Gordon’s skill sets complement each other nicely. Even with Indiana losing in the Round of 64, adding Rose and Teague could have pushed the Hoosiers to possibly the National Championship game. Regardless, that trio could have been not only exciting but historic in the new age of college basketball.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/76ers-news-eric-gordon-joining-philly-paul-george-signing-looms">joined the Philadelphia 76ers</a> in free agency after playing for four different teams in the West. It’s going to be a different feel for the 35-year-old guard but, with the team in place looking really good, the transition should be pleasant.</p><p>“When you have a chance to play for a good, world-renowned organization with a good coaching staff and a potentially good team — I mean, it was almost like a no-brainer,” Gordon said on his introductory Zoom call for the 76ers.</p><p>Gordon cited his relationship with 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey, who previously signed him to the Houston Rockets, as an important source of familiarity in his new home. Philly strives to make it outside of its side of the playoff bracket — which those Houston teams never could — while relying on Gordon’s prolific three-point shooting.</p><p>“Eric is a proven shot-maker whose ability to create space and punish defenses that overextend will help solidify an already dynamic offense,” Morey said of Gordon in the team’s official announcement of his signing. “He plays bigger as the moments get bigger which will be key for our playoff run. I’ve known Eric for many years – he is devoted to his craft and continuously works on his game, allowing him to have such a long and successful career. We are lucky to have him in Philly.”</p><p>Morey is “religious about winning,” said Gordon, the 11th of Morey’s former Rockets that have become a Sixer under his watch.</p><p>Just as he did when he signed with the Phoenix Suns last offseason, Gordon is joining a roster full of stars that are pretty much brand new to him. Philly should have less overlap amongst its stars and better depth but still may take some time for Gordon to get comfortable with his new team, especially since the Indianapolis native and former Indiana University standout is playing on the East Coast for the first time in his basketball career.</p><p>Making things easier for Gordon is the fact that his role will be the same as it ever was: come off the bench, defend hard, and shoot the ball. His <a href="https://stathead.com/tiny/d0D6k" rel="noopener">1,505 three-pointers</a> over the last decade have been bested by only 10 other players. Above everything else, the 76ers will want him to pad that total.</p><p>“It’s about having a readiness,” Eric Gordon said of being a high-level spot-up shooter around star players. “You gotta be able to take those tough shots when they’re drawing a lot of attention. I’ve never been afraid to take deep threes and take threes in tough times because you’re gonna need them.”</p><h2><b>Eric Gordon provides 76ers with great shooting off the bench</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Eric-Gordon-shoots-the-ball.jpg"><figcaption>© Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>In an interview on the ESPN broadcast of the 76ers’ Summer League loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, Nick Nurse explained that <a href="https://x.com/BySamDiGiovanni/status/1810824122269655048" rel="noopener">five-out offenses are in right now</a> and that, because of how often defenses change up coverages to stop the opposing star, having players who make it harder to deploy those defenses are valuable. The more defenses have to worry about when an offense’s focal point(s) give up the ball, the harder the offense is to stop.</p><p>While not all of the 76ers’ offseason moves have been about <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/76ers-news-philly-makes-paul-george-splash-free-agency">maximizing their shooting</a> around Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, the signing of George and drafting of Jared McCain also signal that Philly seeks improvement in that area. George, like Gordon, has been one of the NBA’s premier three-point marksmen, ranking seventh on the leaderboard in triples over the last 10 seasons. McCain is arguably the best shooter from his draft class, shooting 41.4 percent on 5.8 attempts per game as a freshman at Duke.</p><p>Gordon being primarily a two-guard does make him a bit of a clash with McCain, though. The rookie drafted 16th overall has yet to prove himself as an offensive initiator at the NBA level, so his best fit for the time being is also as a shooting guard, where he can work more off the ball and still flaunt his fantastic shooting. Nonetheless, having another solid, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/what-76ers-andre-drummond-eric-gordon-signings-mean-for-rotation">experienced shooter off the bench</a> will make life much easier for the stars around him, especially if McCain needs a chunk of time to get acclimated to the pros.</p><p>In Gordon, the 76ers have someone who will continue to make defenses think twice before sending an extra defender to stop Embiid, Maxey or George. Each star will command defensive attention in their own way and try to kick the ball out to Gordon when passing lanes open up — and the veteran guard sees big things in each of them.</p><p>Embiid has a case for the best player that Gordon has ever played with. As far as big men specifically go, Gordon has played with superstar-level talents like Blake Griffin and Anthony Davis. He anticipates Embiid being “the most dominant” of them all.</p><p>“I’ve had a lot of good bigs but he’s very dynamic,” Gordon said. “He’s a major force down there. As long as we all figure it out, gel together, the game should be easier for him and it should be easier for everyone else. He’s definitely a special player.”</p><p>Gordon called Maxey a “very dynamic guard” and someone on an exciting trajectory.</p><p>“I’ve watched him grow throughout his career. He can get into the paint by attacking closeouts and pointed out how his strength allows him to defend guards and bigs alike. Even at his advanced age, he can make an impact in several ways. But Gordon’s trademark skill is his three-point shooting. They’re the only horse left in the race but still have plenty of ground to cover before officially forming a new star trio.</p><p>But as the Sixers aim to land the plane in the George negotiations, they agreed to terms on cheap contracts with Andre Drummond and Eric Gordon. Philly has nearly a whole roster to remake and added two veterans to give them a different look off the bench than they had last season. Neither move jeopardizes the pursuit of George and gives Philly some actual players on its roster, though it still lacks size on the wings, which should be its main priority after (ostensibly) landing George.</p><p>The additions of Drummond and Gordon have significant ramifications for the 76ers roster, even though the massive domino in the room has yet to fall.</p><h2><b>Andre Drummond signing adds more uncertainty to Paul Reed’s future</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Andre-Drummond-rebounds-the-ball.jpg"><figcaption>© Matt Krohn-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Drummond is reuniting with the 76ers on a two-year deal worth $10 million. The 30-year-old was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-76ers-andre-drummond-bulls-trade-deadline">nearly traded to Philly midseason</a> but had to wait a little bit to officially make it back after being included in the Ben Simmons-James Harden blockbuster. He now leaves the Chicago Bulls behind for the Sixers.</p><p>As a backup center, Drummond brings elite rebounding on both ends and even a hint of playmaking from the high post. He isn’t a very efficient scorer — all he does is shoot shots from close range and he doesn’t make those at a good rate for a center — but will be good enough for a few dunks and putbacks while inducing cold sweats every time he goes to the foul line. His defense down low isn’t elite nor is he versatile to play in a variety of schemes but he should be serviceable enough for the dozen or so minutes he has to play each night. There’s no chance Drummond and Embiid will play at the same time, so Philly has to find other starters who will help the big man control the boards. At the very least, though, when Embiid rests, one of the league’s best individual rebounders will be taking his place.</p><p>The impossible angle to ignore with the Drummond signing is that Paul Reed seems very likely to be on the move. Drafting Adem Bona in the second round was one thing but now with Drummond here for potentially two seasons (he has <a href="https://x.com/MikeAScotto/status/1807550438520082815" rel="noopener">a player option</a> after his first seasons), Reed has never been more expendable since he became the Sixers’ primary backup center. Moving his nearly $8 million salary could unlock more moves and net value for the Sixers in other areas.</p><p>Reed, for example, could be traded for Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kenrich Williams or Charlotte Hornets guard Cody Martin, who each make similar salaries. The Thunder, who have to find room for other young wings, and the Hornets, who are looking to sell off veteran talent, could each feasibly take a flyer on Reed. OKC, in particular, would be wise to add some size. If the Sixers attach a draft pick, they could add a defensive-minded role player who either brings some playmaking upside (Martin) or three-point shooting (Williams).</p><p>If the Sixers want to acquire more assets, they could trade Reed to the Houston Rockets for Jock Landale and draft capital. Houston would get a player who is better, younger and can be used either in another trade or waived at no penalty. With extensions looming for Alperen Sengun and Jalen Green, moving off Landale’s contract might be a goal of theirs, especially now that Steven Adams is preparing to take over the backup center spot. Philly can then turn around and use Landale’s contract in a trade later on.</p><p>Bball Paul had a lot of good moments for the 76ers but his salary stands out as a trade chip now that the team has other options under center. Unless Bona spends his rookie season on a two-way contract or the team looks to make Reed more of a power forward, it feels inevitable that he’ll be used in a trade. Drummond, meanwhile, appears to be the main man behind Embiid until Bona is ready to step up.</p><h2><b>Eric Gordon adds more shooting but questions about bench rotation </b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Eric-Gordon-dribbles-the-ball.jpg"><figcaption>© Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sport</figcaption></figure><p>The Sixers satisfied their hunger for former Rockets by signing the 35-year-old Gordon to a minimum deal. There aren’t any of his former teammates in Philly now but he at least reunites with Daryl Morey and gets the chance to play for another playoff team after spending last season with the Phoenix Suns. Since he’s on a minimum deal, it doesn’t cost Philly all that much to see how much he has left in the tank.</p><p>Gordon was one of the more prominent three-point-shooting specialists in the NBA for a few years and even as he fades, he remains a very good shooter. Last season, he attempted 5.8 threes per game and cashed in on a 37.8-percent clip, shooting off the catch and the dribble pretty well. Even at his advanced age, Gordon can still <a href="https://x.com/scooperhoops/status/1722097816338587805" rel="noopener">score a little bit on his own</a>. His handles are solid and he isn’t afraid to get into the paint, taking it all the way to the rim or stopping to shoot a floater/push shot.</p><p>With Gordon aboard, it seems unlikely that Buddy Hield will come back, as EG takes his role as the high-volume-shooting two guard. De’Anthony Melton and Cam Payne, with the Sixers adding two other guards in Gordan and Jared McCain while also seeming likely to re-sign Kyle Lowry, also don’t seem to have a solidified spot anymore. But with McCain coming aboard after being drafted with the 16th overall pick, the addition of Gordon doesn’t make as much sense.</p><p>Gordon and McCain may be too similar to play together. The good news is that they are both excellent shooters who use their strength to get inside the arc and score. But neither is a consistent playmaker or defender and both are undersized at the guard spot. Gordon started to get fewer minutes as the 2023-24 season went on and his rebound and assist numbers each declined last season. If he cuts into McCain’s minutes, it might be a detriment to the team.</p><p>You can never have too much shooting but size still very much matters. Gordon can really only play shooting guard — he isn’t skilled enough on the ball to be a point guard and could maaaaybe play small forward in some instances because he’s strong, but his age will eventually catch up to him to the point where he can’t. While his addition is just for one season, it does make McCain a smidge more expendable if the Sixers can include him in a trade for someone really good like Lauri Markkanen. But a deal of that caliber does not seem easy to pull off, so the overlap with McCain and Gordon will be a subplot to keep an eye on this season.</p><p>While the addition of Gordon doesn’t prevent the Sixers from adding more size, he does occupy a roster spot that could have gone to a younger, 3-and-D forward. If his main role is to be insurance in case McCain needs some time to develop, the signing of Gordon makes sense. Having another veteran to mentor him should be good, too. But the upside of this signing — even for a minimum contract — is minimal.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

While signs point towards the 76ers landing Paul George in <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-free-agency-2024-tracker">NBA free agency</a>, they have already agreed to <a href="https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/status/1807571874961928223" rel="noopener">smaller deals</a> with key free agents including sharpshooting veteran Eric Gordon as per Shams Charania of The Athletic.</p><p>Eric Gordon joins the 76ers in free agency after spending the 2023-24 season with the Phoenix Suns. The Suns were expected to be a championship contender and Gordon was viewed as a key veteran towards that goal. He will now be expected to play a similar role on a 76ers team that is also looking to jump into true contender status.</p><p>Gordon has been one of the NBA’s better three-point shooters throughout his career. Last season, he appeared in 68 games, including 24 starts, at a little over 27 minutes per game. He averaged 11.0 points, 1.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals with splits of 44.3 percent shooting from the field, 37.8 percent shooting from the three-point line and 79.7 percent shooting from the free-throw line.</p><p>The No. 7 overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, this will be the fourth team that Gordon has played for during his 16-year NBA career. He has also played for the New Orleans Pelicans and Houston Rockets. He holds a career average of 37.1 percent shooting from three-point range. In the 22 games Gordon played for the Clippers during the 2022-23 season, he shot 42.3 percent from distance, the second-highest mark in his career.</p><h2><b>All signs point to 76ers signing Paul George in free agency<br></b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Paul-George-1.jpg"><figcaption>© Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>In addition to adding Eric Gordon, the 76ers also agreed to terms with free agent center Andre Drummond. Drummond was a target of the 76ers back during the NBA trade deadline, and now they get a quality backup to Joel Embiid.</p><p>But the big domino to waiting to fall is Paul George. The Los Angeles Clippers <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/clippers-news-la-puts-out-statement-explaining-paul-georges-departure">released a statement</a> saying they were informed by George that he intends to leave the team and sign elsewhere in free agency. Following the Orlando Magic agreeing to terms with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, the only remaining teams with the cap space to sign George outright at the amount of years he is seeking are the 76ers and the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons are not a contender and not in the running for George’s services.</p><p>It would appear then that George to the 76ers is a mere formality. George would give the 76ers a third star to play alongside Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. The Denver Nuggets</b></h2><p>While there’s still technically time for the Denver Nuggets to find a way to keep Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nuggets-news-kentavious-caldwell-pope-hits-free-agency-with-15-4-million-decision"> officially declined his $15.4 million contract</a> on June 27th, it sure seems like the 2023 NBA Champions are going to be without their starting two guard when the 2024-25 NBA season officially opens up this fall.</p><p>Now granted, it’s not like the Nuggets weren’t prepared for this move as, in an interview with reporters, GM Calvin Booth let it be known that he expected KCP to leave and even has an <a href="https://www.si.com/nba/nuggets/news/denver-nuggets-gms-shocking-statement-on-losing-championship-player" rel="noopener">in-house replacement lined up</a> for when that day comes.</p><p>“I think we have to look at everything, the nature of free agency is that he’s unrestricted. We can try to bring him back and if he doesn’t want to come back or chooses to go somewhere else, that’s his prerogative, so we’ll have to work with that. I think we’re prepared to plug and play… When you look at good teams in the past, they had to find a way to replace fourth, fifth starters, sixth men off the bench, and still keep rolling,” Calvin Booth told reporters via Inside the Nuggets.</p><p>“It would be nice if he’s back, they have a lot of continuity together,” Booth said. “But I think all of the stuff I’ve looked at with lineup stuff, Christian Braun is one of the best net rating guys in the league, as is KCP. I think if he’s to step in the lineup like how we’re projected, I think we’ll be okay if KCP doesn’t return.”</p><p>Could Braun, one of the Nugget’s top bench players in 2024, immediately slot in as that fifth starter this fall? Potentially so, but even if that happens, Denver would still need to settle on another player to fill the Kansas product’s spot on the bench.</p><p>Enter Eric Gordon, who is used to playing an important role on talented teams with championship aspirations.</p><p>Whether tasked with playing the starting two-guard spot or slotted in as a bench wing who can log minutes 1-3 depending on the needs of the moment, Gordon has the offensive skill set and versatility to be a contributor to the Nuggets both in the regular season and the playoffs and could become the sort of hybrid guard capable of easing the loss of both KCP and Reggie Jackson.</p><figure class="op-interactive"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">Nuggets GM Calvin Booth is no stranger to saying the quiet thing out LOUD. The Los Angeles Lakers</b></h2><p>Technically speaking, every team with Championship aspirations should have an interest in Gordon’s services, as he’s a proven gun backcourt gun who can wear multiple roles and scale up or down his usage depending on his team’s desired role.</p><p>Fortunately or not, depending on your fandom preferences, some teams aren’t able to be spenders in free agency because of their pre-existing cap holdings, as a team like the Boston Celtics or the Minnesota Timberwolves don’t even have access to the mid-level exceptions due to being over the second apron.</p><p>Their loss is a team like the Los Angeles Lakers’ gain, as they can offer more than the minimum to a player like Gordon and, as a result, could end up leaving the free agency with the ultimate complementary guard with experience playing opposite Anthony Davis in New Orleans.</p><p>After watching D’Angelo Russell pick up his option for the season, the Lakers now have their top three guards returning from the 2023-24 season, with the potential for 2024 first-round pick Dalton Knecht to earn some time at the two-guard spot, too, if JJ Redick is feeling nostalgic for the good old days. Still, with Vincent a bit of a wildcard after missing much of last season and D-Lo anything but guaranteed to return this fall, he could be on the move this weekend via a sign-and-trade, bringing in Gordon as a top-8 marksman could be just what the doctor ordered to build another contender around James and Gordon before he calls it a career.</p><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The reversal made it a 125-118 advantage for the Hawks, who won the game 129-120.</p><p>In the post-game pool report, NBA official Zach Zarba said Gordon “jumped from out of bounds,” which led to <a href="https://twitter.com/DuaneRankin/status/1753630180625485991" rel="noopener">the three points being removed</a>. I’m here to win and to play winning basketball. We just got to put our best foot forward.”</p><p>Gordon was asked about why he felt he only took two shots against the Kings. Gordon, who is averaging fourth-most points (13.2) per game on the Suns’ roster, also took just seven shots in the team’s 109-104 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers Tuesday.</p><p>Gordon said the Suns need to strike fear into their opponents. Phoenix is using three-guard lineups and has 10 players who last season shot at least 35 percent from three but ranks No. 29 in pace and No. 24 in 3-pointers attempted (31.3).</p><p>Gordon and Beal <a href="https://twitter.com/TrevorMBooth/status/1736066594344960282/video/1" rel="noopener">each told ClutchPoints in training camp</a> it would be a “point of emphasis” for the Suns to shoot plenty of threes. Versus the Kings, Phoenix shot 5-of-25 from three, including a 3-of-10 first-half clip and 2-of-15 stretch in the second half.</p><p>“We got to have that where every time we come down the floor, the other team needs to be pretty scared of us,” Gordon said. “We got to get back to destroying teams. But, we’ll get there.”</p><p>Booker, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/suns-news-devin-booker-luka-doncic-mavs" rel="noopener">who has a rivalry</a> with the Suns’ opponent on Christmas, the Dallas Mavericks, and guard Luka Doncic, was also made available to the media. He is a former Sixth Man of the Year and is known for his long-range shooting, which is beneficial next to Durant, Beal and Booker.</p><p>But the Suns’ offense has been pedestrian.</p><p>“I’m not doing a good enough job in making sure he’s involved in the offense,” Vogel said. “He’s a guy that can really help us.”</p><p>Phoenix through 28 games is 16th in the NBA in offensive rating.</p><p>Phoenix has 10 players on its roster who shot at least 35 percent from three — including Gordon — in 2022-23 but is failing to use its personnel to the fullest. The Suns rank No. 25 in threes attempted (31.3) per game.</p><p>In the story, Booker told Haynes he is confident in Vogel and the team the Suns have. As much as it relies on athleticism, basketball is a mind sport, with the pros focused more on the flow of the game than individual stats.</p><p>Redick, drawing parallels to his own experiences during his Los Angeles Clippers days, candidly mentions the 3-1 lead his team blew himself against— funnily enough — the Houston Rockets in 2015.</p><p>“I brought up what ifs earlier and I’ve had to unfortunately speak oftentimes about… 2015 before you got there, when we lost to the Rockets up 3-1, up 19 in the third quarter of game six at home, just like complete meltdown,” Redick shared.</p><p>“I remember, yeah I was there at that game,” Gordon laughed.</p><p>“It takes a lot and some of it is luck,” Redick continued. “You oftentimes have to avoid going over for 27 in a game seven, you have to avoid blowing a 19-point lead in game six at home in the second half like it… it just… it oftentimes can come down to a single stretch of a game or in some cases, I think you know a few plays here and there.”</p><h2><b>Rockets strategy against the death lineup</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Rockets-Eric-Gordon.jpg"></figure><p>Eric Gordon’s strategy against the Warriors’ star players was also a focal point.</p><p>“We wanted to turn them into a one-on-one team… We just felt like if we just played our game offensively and just turned him to a strictly one-on-one team like how we wanted to do on the defensive end, we thought it would make it really tough for them,” Gordon explained.</p><p>This strategic insight reveals the Rockets’ approach to neutralizing the Warriors’ strengths, a plan that nearly succeeded. The Rockets had pushed a dynasty to the brink, and for a moment, seemed destined to topple it.</p><p>As Gordon noted, from his point of view, Game 7 wasn’t really a series of missed shots; more so, it was separated by two possessions.</p><p>Remembering what happened, the Rockets were up by double digits at the half and were down by single digits in the final minutes. And I mean, where both of us can create opportunities for one another.
