Because this more and more just looks like it’s Donovan Mitchell’s team, it’s Donovan Mitchell’s timeline,” said Lowe, per The Zach Lowe Show.</p><p>Lowe clarified that “Evan Mobley is really good, and he’s really young, 24 years old, they’re going to have to add more to it than that and there’s apron restrictions.”</p><p>Mobley has been a disappointment for the Cavs this season, as fans are still waiting for the reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year winner to take the offensive leap that has been anticipated for several years now. They’ve always needed Evan [Mobley] to get even better, and he’s not there yet.”</p><p>Evan Mobley is averaging 18.8 points on 47.2% shooting, including 34.8% from deep, 8.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game for the Cavs this season. Asked multiple times about the punishment, Atkinson initially left well enough alone before expressing his disagreement with the league’s decision.</p><p>“I’ve got to look at the Cavs’ best interest,” Atkinson said in his pregame press conference before the Cavs’ matchup with the Houston Rockets.</p><p>“Fifteen games in 27 days, let that sink in to everybody. We’re sitting here in our seats. But three back-to-backs. We’re going into a fourth back-to-back. I think my No. 1 job is to continue to protect the health of our players. So, [it’s] kind of that simple.”</p><p>In the middle of a five-in-seven stretch, Atkinson shared that he wouldn’t change his approach to last week’s game in Miami, which the Cavs won 130-116. Cleveland <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/cleveland-cavaliers/cavs-news-depth-jarrett-allen-stunning-win-heat-down-three-all-star-starters">showcased its depth and developed players while coming out victorious</a>.</p><p>“From a competitive standpoint, I mean, we won that game, too,” Atkinson said. “So to me, you throw that on top of it, and it’s like, wait a second, are you discrediting the guys that played that night?</p><p>“We get penalized for it? More teams are offensive rebounding; the rate is higher than ever. So, physically, you’ve got to go crash and then you got to get back right before you just got back. So add that onto the ledger.</p><p>“Everybody knows transition possessions are the most valuable possessions in the game, so everybody’s seeking that out. It’s like baseball. Everyone’s trying to be so efficient in what we do, which is our job. Every pitcher’s trying to throw a hundred whatever [innings]. Now, obviously when you look for efficiency, sometimes you’ve just got to do it intelligently. The league released a statement <a href="https://pr.nba.com/cavaliers-fined-11-18-25/" rel="noopener">on the matter</a> on Tuesday evening.</p><p>“The NBA announced today that the Cleveland Cavaliers have been fined $100,000 for violating the league’s Player Participation Policy. The violation occurred when the Cavaliers held Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley, who are both star players under the Policy, out of the team’s game against the Miami Heat on Nov. 12 for rest. The Policy, which was adopted prior to the 2023-24 season, is intended to promote participation in the NBA’s regular season.”</p><p>Though likely disappointing to fans in South Beach that night, it wasn’t surprising to see the Cavs rest two of their stars in a rematch with the Heat. For one, they were coming off an <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-erik-spoelstra-reveals-how-andrew-wiggins-game-winning-dunk-vs-cavs-was-4-years-in-the-making">overtime spectacle that ended on a buzzer-beating alley-oop from an inbound pass</a>. Mitchell played 41 minutes and Mobley logged 39 minutes, both game-highs.</p><p>Additionally, Cleveland had to fly back home the next night to host the Toronto Raptors; the team didn’t get into town until 3 a.m. ET. It was a brutal turnaround for a road-home second night of a back-to-back that the wine and gold wound up dropping with Mitchell and Mobley active, anyhow.</p><p>The Cavs have already played in 15 games to this point. Entering Tuesday, only the Milwaukee Bucks, Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks, and Oklahoma City Thunder could say the same.</p><p>After Wednesday night’s tilt against the Houston Rockets, Cleveland will have played its fifth game in seven days. Following that, the wine and gold will have games on Friday and Sunday vs. the Indiana Pacers and LA Clippers to finish the longest homestand of the year before Thanksgiving. There hasn’t been a single practice yet.</p><p>Cavs head coach <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/cleveland-cavaliers/cavs-head-coach-kenny-atkinson-steve-kerr-fewer-regular-season-games">Kenny Atkinson passionately stated his case for fewer games</a> at the beginning of the season, and Warriors head coach <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-ex-suns-star-pushes-back-on-steve-kerrs-tough-claim-about-schedule">Steve Kerr brought it to light</a> again on Tuesday. Those four will join Max Strus on the sidelines, but only two of them are injured.</p><p>Mitchell and Mobley are being held out for rest purposes, while <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/cleveland-cavaliers/cavs-news-darius-garland-ruled-out-rest-heat-game-concerning-injury">Garland has a left great toe injury that he reaggravated on Monday</a>. Despite playing 31 minutes in the first game, Jaylon Tyson suffered a concussion after falling backward into teammate Sam Merrill’s knee.</p><p>Cavs head coach Kenny Atkinson is clearly erring on the side of caution as per usual. Cleveland and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/nba-news-fans-disbelief-wild-ending-heat-cavaliers">Miami went to overtime in a 140-138 affair</a>, where Mitchell logged a game-high 41 minutes with Mobley right behind him at 39. Seeing Garland leave the game early and being unable to continue could have also influenced this decision for the rematch.</p><p>All three of Cleveland’s two-way contract players — Luke Travers, Nae’Qwan Tomlin, and Chris Livingston — will be active. Larry Nance Jr.’s status is still in question with a left knee contusion.</p><p>The Cavs will be asking everybody to step up in the absence of their core players. Jarrett Allen is the lone member of the Core Four who will be on the court. De’Andre Hunter should be the lead scoring threat for the wine and gold, along with Merrill. Other contributors, such as Lonzo Ball, Craig Porter Jr., Dean Wade, and rookie Tyrese Proctor, are going to have to be ready to provide an extra lift. We’ll likely see Thomas Bryant get run, too.</p><p>Meanwhile, the Heat plan to suit up their guys who played just as much as Cleveland’s guys. Though Jaime Jaquez Jr., Davion Mitchell, Kel’el Ware, and Dru Smith are dealing with nagging injuries, they’re all listed as available on the injury report. Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro remain out with a sprained left big toe and left ankle surgery recovery, respectively.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
