Unfortunately for them, the Cavs held on to win Game 5 on Tuesday 104-103, and Game 6 could be a little tougher considering the injury Gary Harris sustained Tuesday.</p><p>Harris, who has had a rough series to this point, <a href="https://twitter.com/ByNateUlrich/status/1785487994528436708">exited Game 5</a> with a right hamstring strain and did not return. The likes of Gary Harris and Joe Ingles provided much of the relevant playoff experience for the Magic, one of the NBA’s youngest teams and whose best players had never been to the playoffs. The Cavaliers were in a better position in terms of experience, although much of it was done separately from each other, with offseason acquisitions such as Max Strus, Georges Niang, and Tristan Thompson all bringing their own experience. Cleveland also had the misfortune of being dominated by the New York Knicks in last year’s postseason in the franchise’s first playoff appearance since 2018.</p><p>Both teams have had the chance to experience a lot already in five game in their own series, though. The Cavaliers, the No. 4 seed, decisively won the first two games at home as the Magic’s offense struggled to get going. In the first pair of games, Orlando scored 83 and 86 points, its second and third-fewest point totals all season.</p><p>Back in Orlando for Games 3 and 4, the roles reversed in a major way. No longer did the Magic have trouble with offense, but the Cavaliers sure did. In Game 3, Orlando crushed Cleveland 121-83 as the Cavaliers set a new low mark for points this season. Game 4 didn’t go much different, as the Magic won by 23 to tie the series up as Cleveland again failed to surpass 90 points.</p><p>While the first four games were decisive, double-digit victories, Game 5 was about as tight as it can get. The Cavaliers’ offense, despite a 15-point second quarter, was improved and proved to be just enough to overcome a 39-point <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/paolo-banchero-fires-confident-take-on-forcing-game-7-vs-cavs">performance by Paolo Banchero</a>. Cleveland defended its home court to win 104-103, highlighted by a clutch block at the rim by Evan Mobley <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/magics-paolo-banchero-franz-wagner-set-franchise-playoff-records-in-huge-games-3-and-4-wins-over-cavs">on Franz Wagner</a>.</p><p>The intense Game 5 now sets the stage for Game 6, which will be back in Orlando. If Games 3 and 4 are any indication, the Magic should cruise to another blowout win. But with their backs against the wall and now possibly down a veteran member of their backcourt, it is unclear how the young and inexperienced Magic will react to a do-or-die elimination game.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

But before signing anyone new, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/magic-best-move-2023-nba-draft/" rel="noopener">Magic made sure to take</a> care of two of their own.</p><p>Orlando <a href="https://twitter.com/therealBeede/status/1674839856369762306" rel="noopener">has guaranteed</a> Markelle Futz and Gary Harris’ contracts for the 2023-2024 season, via Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel. Fultz will make $17 million while Harris will earn $13. Both are now <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/magic-best-targets-free-agency-after-2023-nba-draft/" rel="noopener">locked in with the Magic</a> for at least the upcoming season.</p><p>Fultz’s NBA journey has been anything but a straight path. However, he has found his home in Orlando after his trade from the Philadelphia 76ers. In his four years with the Magic, Fultz has appeared in 158 games, including 131 starts. He has averaged 12.7 points, 5.4 assists and 1.3 steals per game. He is coming off of a career year in which he set new highs in points (14), assists (5.7) and steals (1.5).</p><p>Harris has been with the Magic for the past 2+ seasons after coming over in the Aaron Gordon trade. In 129 games – 91 starts – Harris has averaged 9.9 points with 1.8 threes per game. He is one of Orlando’s best shooters with a career 39 percent clip from behind the arc.</p><p>The Magic are looking to make the postseason for the first time since xx. As they look to surprise the NBA, Markelle Fultz and Gary Harris should both play massive roles. The 27-year-old could miss a big chunk of the upcoming season after suffering a knee injury.</p><p>According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Harris tore his left meniscus. He re-signed with the rebuilding club this offseason, agreeing to a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/magic-news-gary-harris-agrees-to-2-year-extension-to-stay-in-orlando/">two-year deal</a> for him to provide support for the many young guards on the Magic roster. He averaged 11.1 points across 61 games last season while shooting 43.4 percent from the field and 38.4 percent from deep.</p><p>Now without one of their key perimeter shooters, the Magic will have to adjust how they surround its young players with veteran support. Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, Cole Anthony and Wendell Carter Jr. will benefit greatly from 3-point shooting support around them.</p><p>Gary Harris has now suffered injuries to both of his knees, as he suffered a <a href="https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/basketball/news/magics-gary-harris-dealing-with-knee-contusion/">right knee contusion</a> near the end of last season. Fortunately, he is still relatively young and his style of play is not predicated on explosive athleticism, so he should still be able to stay in the NBA moving forward. But there is also an element of sadness to seeing a longtime teammate being dealt to another franchise. Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray felt the bittersweet element of the deadline after the Nuggets sent Gary Harris to the Orlando Magic as part of a package for Aaron Gordon.</p><p>Murray openly expressed his emotions at learning of Harris’ departure with a heartfelt Instagram post Thursday afternoon:</p><blockquote>“My brudda..tears fell picking out my favorite pics with a flood of memories,” <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CM2bfdgBU5d/">Murray said in the caption</a>. “This hit just a lil different..you already kno what it is fam all love.”</blockquote><p>The two have been teammates since the Nuggets selected Murray with the seventh overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft. But Harris will prepare for a new chapter in Orlando, while Murray prepares to welcome Gordon into the fold.</p><p>The trade could be a win-win for <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sports/nba/denver-nuggets/roster">both teams</a>. Harris has struggled in the last few seasons with injuries beginning to play a role. But he remains an athletic wing who can score and get hot from the perimeter. Harris can also guard multiple positions. The Magic did well to get R.J. Hampton in the deal, as well.</p><p>Meanwhile, the Nuggets get a frontcourt scorer and playmaker in Gordon, who should be a perfect complement to Nikola Jokic.</p><p>Gordon should also benefit Murray as a guy who can slip off screens for threes or set the pick and dive to the rim. He can score at the cup or make plays for teammates and should make the Nuggets even harder to guard.</p><p> </p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
