On Wednesday night preseason action against the Toronto Raptors, Mazzulla did not take too kindly to some showboating from guard Immanuel Quickley.</p><p>With less than four minutes remaining in the second quarter, RJ Barrett pushed the ball in transition against the Celtics and found a wide-open Quickley in the corner. The Raptors guard then pulled the trigger on a triple while standing in front of the Boston bench and drilled it after almost certainly hearing some jeers from the Celtics. The Celtics head coach must be thinking that the Raptors guard is out of his mind considering that it’s exhibition season and it’s silly to be taunting others when these games don’t count towards teams’ win-loss records quite yet.</p><p>Whatever the case may be, it’s Mazzulla and the Celtics that had the last laugh on Wednesday against the Raptors. Some of the Celtics’ starters played regular-season minutes (Derrick White played 35 and Payton Pritchard played 32), while two other starters also crossed the 30-minute mark for Toronto (Brandon Ingram and Quickley). In the end, it was the Celtics that pulled out a 110-108 victory, improving to 2-1 in the preseason.</p><p>Quickley finished with 14 points, four rebounds, and six assists, although he did shoot a dreadful 3-14 from the field. Xavier Tillman Sr. stole the show for Boston, nailing a game-winning floater with 0.8 left on the clock.</p><h2><b>Celtics look to survive without Jayson Tatum</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Tatum-at-preseason.jpg"><figcaption>Petre Thomas-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/boston-celtics/celtics-news-boston-remains-cautiously-optimistic-jayson-tatum-achilles-return-this-season">Jayson Tatum is making plenty of strides</a> in his recovery from a ruptured Achilles, but there are no indications that the Celtics want to bring him back this year.</p><p>With the Celtics in the middle of a gap year, there will be greater opportunity for the likes of White, Pritchard, and Jaylen Brown as they look to keep Boston afloat especially after they lost a few key contributors this past offseason.</p><p>White was excellent on Wednesday, scoring 33 on 10-23 shooting, while Pritchard, despite shooting a ghastly 1-11 from the field, did pitch in with 10 assists. As things stand, the Celtics look like a fringe playoff team in the East, although bigger breakouts from Pritchard or White could cement them as a lower-end playoff team.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

As the young guard went airborne, he was caught up on Darius Garland’s back, resulting in a hard fall to the ground. After going to the locker room before halftime in clear discomfort, Quickley underwent further evaluation that resulted in the Raptors ruling him out with his pelvic contusion.</p><p>Prior to Quickley exiting the Raptors’ season opener against the Cavs, he had recorded 13 points, four assists, and two rebounds in 14 total minutes. He was 4-of-9 shooting from the floor, including 2-for-4 from three-point range. Without Quickley on the court, Toronto will turn to newly acquired Davion Mitchell and rookie guard Jamal Shead in the backcourt.</p><p>In a total of 38 games last season with Toronto, Quickley averaged 18.6 points, 6.8 assists, and 4.8 rebounds per game while shooting 42.2 percent from the floor and 39.5 percent from three-point range. This led to the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/raptors-news-immanuel-quickley-sign-175-million-contract">Raptors giving Quickley a five-year, $175 million contract</a> as a restricted free agent in free agency.</p><p>This is a concerning injury for the Raptors, especially since they are <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/raptors-news-rj-barrett-worrisome-injury-update-before-season">already without RJ Barrett to begin the season</a>. Barrett sustained a sprain to the right acromioclavicular joint in the preseason, resulting in him being unavailable for Wednesday’s season opener against Cleveland. No further updates have been given on Barrett’s status at this time.</p><p>Both Quickley and Barrett were acquired by Toronto during the 2023-24 season when they <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/grading-og-anunoby-rj-barrett-immanuel-quickley-knicks-raptors-trade">traded OG Anunoby to the New York Knicks</a>.</p><p>The Raptors have not found a whole lot of success since winning their first championship in 2019. This organization won just 25 games a season ago, their fewest since winning only 2023 games during the 2011-12 season.</p><p>Head coach Darko Rajakovic is building this team in his image, and executive <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/raptors-news-masai-ujiri-makes-rebuilding-admission-2024-25-season">Masai Ujiri has committed to the rebuild that this franchise faces</a>. He studied journalism and communication at UConn.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>When the Toronto Raptors signed Immanuel Quickley to a five-year, $175 million contract, the price came in a bit higher than many anticipated at $35 million a year, and while the Raptors could have matched any deal in restricted free agency, there was concern about <a href="https://www.tsn.ca/nba/lewenberg-toronto-raptors-launch-new-era-with-big-bets-on-scottie-barnes-immanuel-quickley-1.2146154" rel="noopener">real interest from</a> the San Antonio Spurs and Utah Jazz, according to Josh Lewenberg of TSN. However, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/raptors-masai-ujiri-makes-strong-promise-after-shameful-last-season">the Raptors believe</a> the structure of Quickley’s deal will make it age and look more reasonable down the line.</p><p>“The structure of the deal helps. Per a source, and as Raptors GM Bobby Webster confirmed to TSN on Monday, it’s a flat $175 million over five years – no options or annual raises,” Lewenberg wrote. “It will be worth 25 percent of the salary cap next season, but assuming the cap continues to rise as expected, Quickley’s cap hit will only be 17 percent by year five, when he’s 29 and the team figures to be more competitive and in need of the additional roster flexibility. That’s fair value for even an average starting point guard, and Toronto is certainly hoping that he can grow into more than that.”</p><p>It is right that Quickley’s contract extension <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ex-clipper-paul-george-drops-bombshell-kawhi-leonard-raptors-team-up-revelation">with the Raptors</a> is flat over the five seasons, with the cap hit <a href="https://www.spotrac.com/nba/player/_/id/70667/immanuel-quickley" rel="noopener">staying at $35 million</a> per season, according to Spotrac. As noted, the percentage of the cap that his contract will take up is just under 25 percent this season, then it dips down to an estimated 22.57 percent, then 20.51 percent, followed by 18.65 percent and 16.95 percent.</p><p>Quickley was arguably the best asset the Raptors got back in the trade that sent OG Anunoby to the New York Knicks. Now, he is solidified as a key piece for the team’s future, and if he continues to grow, this contract could look a lot better down the line.</p><p>It is a different structure from Scottie Barnes’ contract, who has ascending cap hits <a href="https://www.spotrac.com/nba/player/_/id/74111/scottie-barnes" rel="noopener">from $38.6 million</a> this season to $51.03 million in the last year of the deal. There are also incentives to potentially get more money than is currently guaranteed for Scottie Barnes. RJ Barrett, who was acquired in the Anunoby deal and signed his deal with the Knicks, has ascending cap hits over the course of his contract as well, but if he performs the way he did after going to Toronto, his deal will not look too bad.</p><h2><b>Immanuel Quickley cemented as core piece for Raptors</b></h2><p>The centerpiece for the Raptors is Barnes, who made a big jump in year three and made the All-Star Game for the first time this past season. He was thrusted into a bigger role after Anunoby and Pascal Siakam were traded, with mixed results following. The hope is that more time playing with Quickley will help them achieve their goals.</p><p>Barnes had a season-ending injury, while Quickley took a personal leave, and the two only played 25 games together. Those two developing chemistry, along with RJ Barrett as well, is vital to the future of the Raptors, who are headed in a new direction with younger players following trading Anunoby and Siakam last season.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

On Friday night, reports came out that the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/raptors-news-immanuel-quickley-sign-175-million-contract">Raptors have inked</a> another crucial member of their young core, Immanuel Quickley, to a huge extension, paying him $175 million over five years.</p><p>Quickley is now set to make an average of $35 million for the next half-decade, setting him and his family up for life. Even Quickley’s teammate back in Kentucky, Philadelphia 76ers star Tyrese Maxey, <a href="https://x.com/TyreseMaxey/status/1806688424499216515" rel="noopener">wants to grab</a> a piece of the dough the Raptors guard just made, hilariously reminding him of the time he paid for his meal way back when.</p><p>“Ummm sirrrr…. Remember back in school when I paid for your chick fil a. 😂😂 @IQ_GodSon,” Maxey wrote on his official Twitter (X) account.</p><p>When it comes to matters of money, people rarely forget. Tyrese Maxey may have known way before they would become multi-millionaires that Immanuel Quickley was going to be destined for greatness, so perhaps that meal he paid for was simply an investment.</p><p>It won’t be long anyway until the Raptors guard jokes about the amount of money Maxey will be making. Even then, the Raptors are looking to turn things around quickly especially when their young core is getting very expensive.</p><p>Still, having Immanuel Quickley, who averaged 18.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 6.8 assists on 42/40/84 shooting splits <a href="https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/immanuel-quickley-stats-raptors" rel="noopener">in 38 games</a> with the Raptors, and legitimate All-Star two-way force in Scottie Barnes as the franchise cornerstones isn’t the worst place to start even though they’ll be taking up a huge percentage of the cap moving forward.</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/kings-news-davion-mitchell-traded-raptors-3-player-deal">Raptors also traded</a> for Davion Mitchell in a buy-low for a former lottery pick, they still have Gradey Dick who’s looking to emerge as a more consistent player in his sophomore season, and they also drafted Ja’Kobe Walter, a 3-and-D prospect who should thrive as an off-ball player alongside the playmaking of Quickley and Barnes.</p><p>The players the Raptors have may not be enough yet to challenge for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. But do not be too surprised if the Raptors make some noise next season if their most important players take the next step in their development.</p><h2>Tyrese Maxey, be patient… your big payday with the 76ers is coming</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Tyrese-Maxey-76ers.jpeg"></figure><p>Tyrese Maxey, the 2024 Most Improved Player awardee, was a popular breakout pick prior to the start of the 2023-24 season amid the trade hullabaloo surrounding James Harden. Maxey delivered, and then some. He averaged 25.9 points and 6.2 assists on 45/37/87 splits, emerging as one of the best shot-creating playmakers in the entire association.</p><p>The 76ers would have paid Maxey a lot of money as soon as they could if it was the wisest thing for them to do.
