Stopping the star guard will be at the top of the Sixers’ to-do list.</p><p>SGA has been one of the best scorers all season long across the NBA, averaging 30.8 points while shooting 50.1 percent from the field and 34.9 percent from deep. Philly held him to a season-low 14 points in their <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/instant-breakdown-sixers-thunder-joel-embiidd-shai-gilgeous-alexander" rel="noopener">previous matchup</a> but he is still a highly skilled guard. Matisse Thybulle, one of the Sixers’ best perimeter defenders, broke down what makes him so difficult to guard.</p><p>“He plays at a weird pace. So, it’s just hard to time,” Thybulle said. “As a defender, you get used to being able to anticipate things. Because he’s kind of off-beat in how he takes steps and moves, it can catch people off guard.”</p><p>Gilgeous-Alexander’s ability to contort his body, change directions and finish around the hoop (all while being a solid shooter) has made him an <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/thunder-news-shai-gilgeous-alexander-approaching-kobe-territory-latest-clutch-heroics" rel="noopener">All-Star-caliber player</a> that leads the young Thunder roster. Another one of Oklahoma City’s key contributors is Isaiah Joe. The former Sixers guard averages just 7.0 points per game but shoots 43.5 percent from deep, the best percentage on his squad and one of the 10-best<a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_2023_totals.html#totals_stats::fg3_pct"> marks in the entire league</a>.</p><p>“He was in the film knocking down threes,” Thybulle said. “He’s definitely someone that we need to be careful with. He showed enough though for Sixers fans to believe he was a player who’s development was worth investing in. Where he showed promise was on the defensive end and as a three-point threat.</p><p>He shot 36.8 percent from three-point range in his rookie season and he shot 33.3 percent from three last season. Joe will be joining a Thunder team that is in rebuilding mode and clearly tanking for a shot at the No. 1 overall pick and the chance to draft Victor Wembanyama.</p><p>The Thunder obviously saw enough potential in Joe that they decided to sign him to a multi-year deal rather than just a contract for his season. It’s unclear, however, what the terms of the deal are. Joe will get a solid opportunity on a team that has plenty of minutes available to show that he is a capable NBA rotation player.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Youngsters Charles Bassey and Isaiah Joe were waived to trim the Sixers’ roster.</p><p>Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer <a href="https://twitter.com/PompeyOnSixers/status/1580542923476590594?s=20&amp;t=Or-TCD73pejkNl528XDTkg">reported</a> that the Sixers were releasing Bassey while Kyle Neubeck of PhillyVoice <a href="https://twitter.com/KyleNeubeck/status/1580551083377631233?s=20&amp;t=Or-TCD73pejkNl528XDTkg">broke the news</a> that they would release Joe, too. Joe, though, seemed to fit the mold of a 3-and-D wing well.</p><p>On a team looking to excel on defense and surround its stars with 3-point shooting, Joe made total sense as an end-of-rotation option with the upside to become a key player. Former second-round pick Isaiah Joe has been a key standout for the 76ers in the preseason and arguably had his best performance against Brooklyn.</p><p>With multiple players out due to various injuries, Joe was tasked with starting at point guard. This expanded role did not phase the young wing player, and he managed to dish three assists in his time initiating the offense. Most importantly, Joe continues to shoot the lights out from beyond the arc.</p><p>Through three preseason games, the 22-year-old is shooting an incredible 63.2% from deep on just over six attempts per game. In Monday’s win over Brooklyn, Joe managed to rack up 20 points on just nine shot attempts, with 15 of those points came from made threes.</p><p>Multiple players have praised Isaiah Joe for the work he’s put in on the court, most recently Joel Embiid. The All-Star center sees a bright future ahead for the young sharpshooter.</p><p>“Isaiah [Joe] is someone that I really think has a chance. You got someone that can handle the ball, can shoot the ball, defend. I think he’s going to be in the league for a long time, and he’s going to be really good, so that’s something I’m excited about,” Joel Embiid said postgame.</p><p><a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/draft/NBA_2020.html" rel="noopener">The 2020 draft continues</a> to look like a home run for Daryl Morey and the Sixers’ scouting department. Not only did they land the steal of the night in Tyrese Maxey, but they also found potential rotation pieces late in the second round with Joe and Paul Reed.</p><p>Last season, it was Maxey who made it harder and harder for Doc Rivers not to play him more. This season, Isaiah Joe is shaping up to be that player. With how well he’s performed in the preseason, it would be outrageous not to give him a chance to earn rotation minutes.</p><p>Joe has put in the work to grow his game in the offseason and should get an opportunity to be rewarded for it. Not only has he continued to be a deadeye shooter, but grown as a ballhandler as well. There have been multiple plays Joe has made thus far that he was incapable of doing last season. Mix those factors with good defensive fundamentals and IQ, and you have the makings of a reliable three-and-D wing player.</p><p>His style of play is exactly what Rivers<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sports/nba/philadelphia-76ers/roster" rel="noopener"> is looking for</a>, giving him a greater chance to see more playing time in year two. During training camp, Rivers said he wants the team getting more attempts up from three, and Joe has shown he can do that in bunches. His improved ballhandling also makes him a capable secondary initiator to pair alongside whoever ends up being the point guard for the second unit.</p><p>While it is only preseason and three-game sample size, Isaiah Joe has turned a lot of heads. Only time will tell if this hot streak lands him a spot in Rivers’ rotation when the regular season kicks off next week.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
