The Pistons are coming off of a playoff <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-fans-absolute-shambles-brutal-game-6-ending-vs-knicks">loss against the New York Knicks</a> last season in which they let multiple games slip through their grasp and ended up losing in six games.</p><p>In that series, Pistons big man Isaiah Stewart was injured in Game 1 and did not return the rest of the way, and recently, at Pistons media, he made a bold claim on how he thinks things would have played out <a href="https://www.talkbasket.net/203563-isaiah-stewart-if-i-was-healthy-vs-the-knicks-that-series-turns-out-different" rel="noopener">had he been healthy.</a></p><p>“It was frustrating. It was definitely frustrating. I felt have I played, the series would have turned out different and we would have been able to advance — adding what I do on defense and my task with guarding KAT (Karl-Anthony Towns) in that series. So, I feel like it would have been a different outcome,” said Stewart, per Paul Terrazzano Jr. of TalkBasket.net.</p><p>Stewart indeed likely would have presented a challenge on the interior for the Knicks, who are not known for having a strong presence around the basket on either end of the floor. Perhaps he also would have been able to crash the glass and offensive rebound some of the bricks Detroit was launching at the rim down the stretch of Game 6.</p><h2><b>Can the Pistons compete?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/under-second-H2-header.jpg"><figcaption>Wendell Cruz-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>This year, the Pistons enter the season with their first real expectations in well over a decade, thanks in large part to the presence of budding star Cade Cunningham. He is also a professor of sociology.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Detroit Pistons</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>There is a feeling that <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-isaiah-stewarts-gesture-after-ejection-from-timberwolves-game-is-pure-detroit">Detroit Pistons forward Isaiah Stewart has revived</a> the team’s streetball sensibilities following the recent brawl against the Minnesota Timberwolves. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/nba-news-donte-divincenzo-isaiah-stewart-5-players-suspended-timberwolves-pistons-brawl">Stewart was one of five players who received suspensions</a> for the melee by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.</p><p>While some are reviling against what transpired, others were riveted. One of those was former NBA player Carmelo Anthony.</p><p>Anthony spoke about the incident on his podcast, 7 pm in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony. He <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XIwpDSptpA&amp;t=5011s" rel="noopener">jokingly advocated</a> for a GoFundMe page to be set up for Stewart, considering his frequent, volatile play, while speaking about Stewart’s suspension from both sides.</p><p>“They should put a GoFundMe account up for Isaiah Stewart,” Anthony said. “The whole city of Detroit, make a pot for Isaiah Stewart. On the flip side of that he should watch that because there’s nobody who has been in that position and that type of player and personality who haven’t said that was the worst s—t they’ve ever done in their career. Everybody who’s been in those situations and that type of player has regretted being that type of player at one point and time because you lose so much being that type of player.”</p><p>Anthony went on to say that it would be in the Pistons’ best interest to set money aside for Stewart.</p><p>“You ain’t got nobody backing that dollar amount though. Nobody is investing in that dollar amount. That dollar amount is coming out of your pocket. Now if the team was saying we’re going to pay the fines and all that, go for it. Okay, we got a pot of money over here for this wild guy. We know he’s going to get techs, we know he’ll get ejected. This is a pot for Isaiah Stewart, that would be me investing into my guy. As a team, I would put a separate pot to the side. The Isaiah Stewart fund.”</p><p>It seems like a sensible idea considering who the Pistons are dealing with.</p><h2><b>Isaiah Stewart can raise a racquet </b></h2><p>Much like his Pistons predecessor Dennis Rodman, Stewart is an emotionally unpredictable player. He plays with a burning passion but with uncontrolled fervor.</p><p>As a result, Stewart has found himself in numerous altercations.</p><p>In 2021, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/los-angeles-lakers/lakers-news-lebron-james-pistons-isaiah-stewart-punished-by-nba-for-fight">Stewart got into a scuffle with LeBron James</a> during a Pistons/Lakers game. At the center of it all was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-isaiah-stewarts-gesture-after-ejection-from-timberwolves-game-is-pure-detroit">Pistons big man Isaiah Stewart</a>, who has been in his fair share of altercations throughout his career, including most notably with Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James several years ago.</p><p>The Pistons this year have become known for their gritty style of basketball, and recently, former NBA guard Gilbert Arenas took to his own “Gil’s Arena Show” podcast to <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=1154&amp;v=_Nm5M7EqT4E&amp;feature=youtu.be" rel="noopener">relay his thoughts</a> on how this Pistons team compares to those of the 1980s.</p><p>“They’re known for rough and tough, gritty basketball, but they’re champions. Right, no one thinks of the Detroit Pistons as champs,” said Arenas. “Like they’re a championship city because the punching and the fighting and the bad boy style overlooked the two (titles). See the ‘04 wasn’t a bad boys team, they just were a great defensive team. This team is more like the bad boys style, which if no one noticed, that got quickly banned.”</p><p>Arenas then predicted that Stewart might be scapegoated by the NBA as a way to deter teams from engaging in that kind of play.</p><p>“So when I say this team has to tread lightly, that’s not the NBA today. Be sure to follow him on Twitter @BrettSiegelNBA.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Detroit Pistons</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The NBA has <a href="https://x.com/NBAPR/status/1907101217483874566" rel="noopener">suspended five players</a> involved in a fight that took place between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Detroit Pistons on Sunday.</p><p>Donte DiVincenzo and Naz Reid are the two Timberwolves players who each received one-game suspensions. The Pistons’ Ron Holland II and Marcus Sasser also received one-game suspensions. Isaiah Stewart received a two-game suspension from the league office due to his “repeated history of unsportsmanlike acts” on the court.</p><p>There were <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/minnesota-timberwolves/chris-finch-reveals-why-timberwolves-pistons-altercation-was-no-surprise">seven total players and coaches ejected</a> from Sunday’s game between the Timberwolves and Pistons after an all-out brawl broke out in the second quarter. DiVincenzo, Reid, Stewart, Sasser, and Holland were all ejected, as were Detroit head coach JB Bickerstaff and Minnesota assistant coach Pablo Prigioni.</p><p>Stewart and DiVincenzo had been going back and forth with one another on the court leading up to this incident, and the Pistons big man received a technical foul for shoving Minnesota’s guard after he was fouled. The two teams were quickly separated before anything could escalate further.</p><p>On the very next Timberwolves possession, Holland fouled Reid hard while he was driving to the rim. Reid took exception to Holland not playing the ball and began yelling and pointing at him, prompting the two teams to come together. Several players, including Reid, Holland, and DiVincenzo, had to be held back after the initial separation.</p><p>It was then that Bickerstaff and Prigioni got into a shouting match with one another and had to be restrained from getting in each other’s faces.</p><p>A lengthy review then took place before officials ejected DiVincenzo, Reid, Prigioni, Bickerstaff, Stewart, Sasser, and Holland. The Timberwolves went on to win 123-104.</p><p>After the game, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/detroit-pistons/pistons-news-jb-bickerstaff-breaks-silence-timberwolves-coach-role-wild-brawl">Bickerstaff explained what went wrong</a> and shared his thoughts on the incident.</p><p>“Obviously, we’re frustrated the game didn’t go the way we hoped it would have gone. When you play the way that we play, you earn a reputation. You’re going to be tested, and guys think that’s what they have to do,” Bickerstaff said. “You regret where it took place.</p><p>“That’s not something you ever want to see happen. I thought our guys stood their ground and defended each other and had each other’s back. Those are non-negotiables in our locker room.”</p><p>As far as his yelling match with Prigioni, Bickerstaff stated that he won’t let anyone say “belligerent things” about his players.</p><p>These five suspensions handed down by the NBA on Tuesday will begin immediately.</p><p>The Timberwolves will play Tuesday night’s game in Denver without Reid and DiVincenzo. The Pistons will be without Stewart, Holland, and Sasser for Wednesday’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Stewart will also miss the following game on Friday night against the Toronto Raptors.</p><p>These two suspensions could wind up proving costly for the Timberwolves, who are currently 43-32 and tied with the LA Clippers for the 7-seed in the Western Conference playoff picture. A loss to Denver on Tuesday night would push Minnesota further into the play-in region of the standings as they trail the Golden State Warriors by 0.5 games for the 6-seed.</p><p>Detroit is currently 42-33 this season and lead the Milwaukee Bucks by 1.5 games for the 5-seed in the Eastern Conference. As one would recall, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/cleveland-cavaliers/cavs-frustrating-loss-to-pistons-exposes-deepening-flaws">Pistons are coming off an incredible victory</a> over the Cleveland Cavaliers this past Friday. But even though the Pistons suffered a 123-104 defeat in the end, there is a palpable shift in the way the team is carrying itself as they have made the leap from an also-ran to a legitimate playoff team this season.</p><p>There’s nothing quite like going back to a team’s roots, and this seems to be exactly <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/pistons-timberwolves-get-into-heated-altercation-that-spills-over-to-crowd">what the Pistons are doing</a>. On Sunday, the Pistons were involved in all-out brawl, with Ron Holland being in the middle of a play that triggered a full-blown altercation between him and Naz Reid that had certified enforcer Isaiah Stewart getting mixed up in the chaos.</p><p>In the aftermath of the chaos, three Pistons players got ejected (Holland, Stewart, and Marcus Sasser). This time around, they still have a chance to get homecourt advantage in the first round of the playoffs, and with their nice young core, they are set up to succeed for years to come.</p><p>With Cade Cunningham leading the way, Jalen Duren making huge strides throughout the course of the season, Ausar Thompson reclaiming his spot as one of their brightest young prospects, and head coach JB Bickerstaff leading the way — not to mention the team’s group of rugged enforcers ready to muck things up at any moment — these Pistons won’t be an easy matchup at all in the playoffs especially when they can play like they have nothing to lose.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

On Monday night, despite being down by double digits to the Detroit Pistons after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-orleans-pelicans/pelicans-news-trey-murphy-iii-leaves-game-vs-pistons-with-shoulder-injury">losing Trey Murphy III to an unfortunate injury</a> earlier in the game, Williamson had no intention of just rolling over — even redeeming himself with a nasty poster dunk on Isaiah Stewart.</p><p>Earlier in the game, Williamson saw his layup attempt get stuffed at the rim by the Pistons big man. But that did not deter the Pelicans star from attempting to get his sweet revenge. Early on in the fourth quarter, Williamson carried the ball in semi-transition, blowing by Malik Beasley quite easily. And when given a runway, there is no stopping Williamson. The Pacers shot 67% from the field in the first half and remained hot at 57% for the game.</p><p>Detroit’s third consecutive loss was a product of heavy defensive pressure applied by Indiana. Point guard Cade Cunningham was continuously double-teamed before half-court in order to force the ball out of his hands. The Pacers managed to overcome Cunningham’s significant production of 32 points and nine assists by forcing timely turnovers and tough shots. Bickerstaff addressed the team’s composure and execution to the media afterward.</p><p>“We knew that it was going to be one of those games that was going to be competitive, it was going to be physical, it was going to be chippy. I think there were moments where we lost our cool a little bit, which impacted the way we played,” Bickerstaff stated. “Defensively, we could have been better, and I think that’s what this came down to. I thought our guys handled the moment well to score about 120 points. But we made some mistakes defensively, and they made us pay. I thought there some break downs that we could have done better.”</p><p>Beasley provided a spark off the bench, scoring 20 points and hitting six 3-pointers. Forward Tobias Harris had a much-needed bounce-back game with 19 points and nine rebounds. The three-time All-Star had a straightforward response when asked if the NBA would punish him.</p><p>“Oh yeah,” he said with a nod.</p><p>As the Vice President of the National Basketball Players Association, Brown knows how the league operates with fines. He explained how he simply got lost “in the moment” after his poster dunk.</p><p>“Just caught up in the moment, I guess. Although Brown has not been as efficient with his shot-making, his early numbers are enough to uplift <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mavericks-news-kyrie-irving-celtics-superteam-comment-viral">an already talented Celtics team</a>.</p><p>Last season, the Green Team went 17-5 through 22 contests before eventually dominating in the 2024 NBA Playoffs and winning it all. Boston was 64-18 in the regular season and posted a stellar 16-3 postseason record.</p><p>This season, the Celtics are off to an even stronger start, which is particularly impressive because they’ve only had <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/celtics-news-kristaps-porzingis-immediate-reaction-first-game-back-injury">starting center Kristaps Porzingis back in the lineup</a> for four games.
