Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue is planning to increase Zubac’s usage on offense, as Windhorst noted, and believes will ascend the veteran to become one of the NBA’s best centers.</p><p>Windhorst is confident that Zubac will be recognized as <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsJ8JPg30Y0&amp;t=252s" rel="noopener">one of the league’s best bigs</a> by the end of the season, he said, per ESPN’s Hoop Collective.</p><p>“I’m going to tell you something else. Ivica Zubac is going to make All-NBA,” Windhorst said. “Yes, he is. Zubac looks awesome.”</p><p>ESPN’s Tim MacMahon is skeptical over Windhorst’s prediction.</p><p>“You want to tell me Zubac will be a top-three center in the NBA? I’d say that’s bold,” MacMahon said. “But okay, we can chit-chat about it.”</p><p>Brian Windhorst is confident that the 10-year center is primed for an increased role in the Clippers’ offense.</p><p>“I’m telling you,” Windhorst added. “They’re running stuff through him.”</p><p>Zubac averaged 16.8 points on 62.8% shooting, 12.6 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks last season. While expectations on the outside were unclear heading into the 2024-25 season, the Clippers maintained belief that they were legitimate title contenders. At the center of those beliefs was Ivica Zubac.</p><p>Zubac entered last season with a colossal opportunity to become a focal point of his team’s offense after already anchoring their defense. The result was a career year that’s put Zubac in conversations for Most Improved Player, Defensive Player of the Year, All-NBA team honors, and All-Defensive team honors.</p><p>The Clippers center recorded career-highs across the board with 16.8 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 2.7 assists in 32.8 minutes per game across 80 appearances. Zubac also recorded a career-high 59 double-doubles and his first career triple-double.</p><p>“Last year was a lot of fun,” Zubac told ClutchPoints ahead of the start of training camp. “Going into the season, I knew that I was going to be included in the offense more and that I’ll play more. That’s how I spent my whole summer, just kind of getting ready for that role and trying to make the most out of it. Once the season started, it was fun, man.</p><p>“A lot of people counted us out and we had that chip on our shoulders. Jeff Van Gundy came in with his defensive identity. We brought on guys who are really good defensively, and it was just a joy playing every single night, being on the court for that many minutes, competing, and, at the end, winning 50 games that no one even gave us close to 50. It was a really fun season.”</p><p>The Clippers pushed the Denver Nuggets to seven games in their first round series before collapsing in the decisive game. Amid the disappointing end to their season, the franchise retooled and equipped themselves with more athleticism, shooting, size, and versatility.</p><h2><b>The Clippers offseason moves</b></h2><p>To start the summer, the Clippers reached an agreement on a surprising deal with Brook Lopez. Lopez left the Milwaukee Bucks in free agency following seven strong seasons alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo, which included an NBA Championship in 2021. Reports in the weeks leading up to Lopez’s free agency decision stated the center would either remain in Milwaukee or go to Los Angeles’ other team in the Lakers.</p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Ivica-Zubac-Brook-Lopez-Los-Angeles-Clippers-Milwaukee-Bucks.jpg"><figcaption>Michael McLoone-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Lopez also happens to be a familiar face for Zubac, who played with the 17-year NBA veteran on the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2017-18 season. The Clippers center was thrilled when he heard the news that his vet would be joining the franchise.</p><p>“I was very excited when we signed him,” Zubac said. “Brook’s an amazing player and he’s been in the league forever. He’s one of the best defensive bigs in the last I don’t know how many years. He won a championship, he’s got that championship experience, great guy, great locker room guy. I can’t say enough good stuff about him, so I’m very excited that he’s going to be joining us.”</p><p>The next move the Clippers made was trading for forward/center John Collins, who had been an afterthought after a couple of seasons on a tanking Utah Jazz team. Collins averaged 19 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.0 steal, and 1.0 block per game while shooting 52.7 percent from the field and 40 percent from three last season before the Jazz shut him down for, essentially, being too productive.</p><p>Ivica Zubac will now share the frontcourt with Collins, who is expected to be the team’s starting power forward when camp opens up next Tuesday.</p><p>“I like him a lot. I always like to play with another big — a four man — more. That was maybe one thing that we missed the most last season, just having like a real power forward. Going against Denver, who was a little bigger than us, I think that was one of the things that we needed and I’m really glad we got him. I think he’s going to be huge for us.”</p><p>Acquiring a player of John Collins’ caliber wasn’t possible for the Clippers without trading one of their best players from last season in Norman Powell.</p><p>Alongside Zubac, Powell also had a career year for the Clippers that nearly resulted in him being named an NBA All-Star. His media day “addition by subtraction” comments a year ago about the departure of Paul George shocked basketball fans, but the guard backed it up and made another injury absence of Kawhi Leonard’s to start the season much more manageable.</p><p>“Norm was one of my best friends on the team,” Zubac explained to ClutchPoints. “We talked a lot throughout this summer. We’re going to miss him a lot, he was amazing for us last year. He was almost an All-Star, had a great year, and we wouldn’t be able to win 50 games without Norm. We wouldn’t even be able to get to the playoffs without Norm, so we’re going to miss him a lot.</p><p>“I’m happy for him, he’s going to have a great opportunity in Miami. UTG man, Understand The Grind,” Zubac added, referring to Norman Powell’s motto and foundation. “He works crazy every summer, I’m sure he’s going to make the most out of his opportunity this year. I expect the same things like last year, maybe even more and it’s going to be tough playing against him.”</p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Powell.jpg"><figcaption>Troy Wayrynen-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The trade of Norman Powell and the All-Star caliber season he put together left a crater for the Clippers at the shooting guard position. Luckily for them, Bradley Beal became an available free agent following a buyout with the Phoenix Suns.</p><p>Phoenix was a mess the last two seasons with Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Beal together. While the postgame boxscores appeared to show solid performances with good shooting percentages — Beal shot 50.5 percent from the field and 40.7 percent from three during his 106 games — those Suns teams were never well-constructed around their stars.</p><p>Beal is looking for a career resurgence in Los Angeles, now playing next to an established star guard in James Harden, a two-way star in Kawhi Leonard, a dominant interior presence in Ivica Zubac, and a veteran coaching staff committed to the defensive end of the floor.</p><p>“I think he’s going to be a great fit with us,” Zubac said. “I think the fit in Phoenix, I don’t think it was really good for him. He’s got a real point guard now in James and now Chris too. I think that’s going to make life so much easier for him. We saw when he played for the Wizards, playing with the real point guard in John Wall and then later with Russell Westbrook, he’s a scoring machine. He can get you a 30 points a night, so I think the fit with us is going to be much better and that’s going to make life much easier for him.”</p><p>The final offseason addition for the Clippers was one they rolled out the red carpet for. Chris Paul agreed to terms on a deal to return to the franchise he helped get off the ground 14 years ago.</p><p>Paul departed the Clippers via a sign-and-trade with the Houston Rockets in 2017. Subsequent games between Paul and the Clippers have always had a heightened level of competitiveness. But a return to the place he calls, “home,” should only aid in the Clippers’ pursuit of their first championship.</p><p>“I think there was always little extra when you play against Chris Paul. He’s very competitive, he’s got a super high IQ, and he’s legend of the game. Just to have him back with the Clippers, I think it’s amazing and I think he’s going to bring a lot for us. He’s a leader, he’s been through everything. He’s one of the best point guards ever and I think he’s going to be great for us.”</p><h2><b>Ivica Zubac eyeing another leap in 2025-26</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Ivica-Zubac-Norman-Powell-James-Harden-Kawhi-Leonard-Los-Angeles-Clippers-Miami-Heat.jpg"><figcaption>CP</figcaption></figure><p>Entering the offseason, the Clippers were limited in what was available to them to improve the roster. The additions of Brook Lopez, John Collins, Bradley Beal, and Chris Paul made this summer a home run for the Clippers, but even more will be asked of the players they retained.</p><p>James Harden re-signed with the franchise on a two-year deal and Kawhi Leonard was healthy all summer so he’ll entering training camp at 100 percent. But all eyes will be on 28 year old Ivica Zubac, entering the prime of his NBA career when the Clippers need him most.</p><p>After averaging just under 17 points and 13 rebounds, playing career highs in minutes and games, leading the league in total rebounds, and receiving votes for multiple awards, where does Zubac improve his game next?</p><p>“Everything I did, I want to do better,” Zubac told ClutchPoints. “I want to be more efficient, I want to be more aggressive, I want to get more rebounds, I want to be better with the offensive rebounding. Like the put-backs, I want to be more efficient on that. I want to improve my free throws, but I’ve been working a lot of my mid-range shot this summer, so who knows.</p><p>“In the post, I saw a lot of double-teams last year, so I want to be able to face up and see that double team and if the guys back off, I want to be able to shoot that little mid-range shot. I want to be better with passing out of the double-team, finding the right man, and just trying to improve in everything that I did last year and years before. I’m just trying to be better, more confident, and trying to be better at everything what I did.”</p><p>With media day next Monday and training camp beginning the following day in Inglewood, the Clippers are set to embark on a season with championship aspirations and expectations. What lies beyond the horizon, however, is up to them.</p><p>“I feel great. I really like the moves that we made. I think the whole team is confident, this roster will look really good on paper, I’m just excited to get it going, for October 1st to start, and kind of see how it looks on the court, how it plays out.</p><p>“Like I said, I think we addressed all our weaknesses that we had and I really like all the moves. The Clippers’ Center is coming off his best year yet, and the developers over at Visual Concepts have rewarded him with a great NBA 2K rating. At launch, he’ll boast a rating higher than players like Jimmy Butler, Tyrese Maxey, and more. This puts him higher than players like Jimmy Butler, Tyrese Maxey, De’Aaron Fox, and more. A post from Basketball Forever on X asked fans if this rating was “valid”.</p><p>“I mean Zubac was much better this season” one user posted. “Zubac is the 2nd best center in the league under Jokic,” said another. Overall, most people seem to agree with the rating.</p><p>Of course, there were a few who didn’t agree. “No, that had to be a typo, right <a href="https://nba.2k.com/2k26/" rel="noopener">@NBA2K</a>?” Most of the disagreement stems comes from comparing his rating to other players. But what do we think?</p><p><b>Does Ivica Zubac deserve an 87 OVR in NBA 2K26?</b></p><p>Yes, Ivica Zubac enjoyed the best season of his career in 2024-2025, and deserves his 87 rating in NBA 2K26. Without comparing him to players like Maxey or Butler, let’s just look at Zubac the invidual.</p><p>In 2024-2025, he started and played 80 games, averaging over 30 minutes per game. That’s tied for second most for all centers, only under Jarrett Allen. Furthermore, Zubac earned career highs in:</p><ul><li>Rebounds per game (12.6)</li><li>Assists per game (2.7)</li><li>Steals per game (.7)</li><li>Points per game (16.8)</li></ul><p>What’s more important is that Zubac continued to play well in the postseason, averaging over 10 rebounds and 18 points per game. Zubac and the Clippers lost to the Nuggets in the First Round in seven games. He led the team in rebounds in 4 out of seven games, while leading the team in points in their Game 5 loss.</p><p>Overall, Zubac has played well enough to garner a high rating in NBA 2K26. But he’s also not at the level of someone like Nikola Jokic. Therefore, an 87 rating makes sense to us.</p><p>Now, when comparing his rating to other players, that’s where things get subjective. We won’t argue who deserves which rating. Perhaps Jimmy Butler could use a higher rating. At the same time, he turns 36 this season.</p><p>And Tyrese Maxey is a phenomenal player. However, a season-ending injury ended his 2024-2025 campaign early. The top 60 high school age boys and girls, coming from 27 countries, participated in the Europe camp in Manchester, England, with a number of special coaches on hand, including Los Angeles Clippers center Ivica Zubac.</p><p>Zubac was joined by Chicago Bulls guard Kevin Huerter, former NBA Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Tyson Chandler, five-time NBA Champion Derek Fisher, as well as two-time WNBA Champion and four-time Olympic Gold Medalist Sylvia Fowles.</p><p>Additionally, Philadelphia 76ers head coach Nick Nurse, Sixers assistant coach Bryan Gates, and former NBA player and veteran assistant coach Roy Rogers were also in attendance to help coach the camp. Nurse is also a two-time British Basketball League champion (1996 and 2000) and two-time coach of the year (2000 and 2004).</p><p>“Hosting Basketball Without Borders in Manchester for the first time reflects the city’s thriving basketball culture and the growing level of talent in England and across the UK,” Neal Meyer, NBA Europe and Middle East Vice President of Basketball Operations, said in a statement. “We look forward to bringing together the next generation of European prospects to learn from players and coaches who have succeeded at the highest levels of the game.”</p><h2><b>Ivica Zubac puts coaching hat on for Basketball Without Borders, excited for Clippers season</b></h2><p>The Europe camp marked the first time that Basketball Without Borders — the NBA and FIBA’s global basketball development and community outreach program — was held in the United Kingdom.</p><p>LA Clippers center Ivica Zubac spoke with ClutchPoints exclusively during the Basketball Without Borders camp, discussing the importance of imparting his knowledge on the next generation of potential European pros.</p><p>“It’s been great,” Zubac said during the four-day basketball camp. “I like sharing my knowledge and experience with the young guys, especially guys coming from Europe kind of going through a similar path that I was going through. Just being around them, around their energy, it feels good. It’s kind of a different than the NBA stuff. It’s very fun and fulfilling coaching and getting my advice to these guys.”</p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/LA-Clippers-center-Ivica-Zubac-coaching-at-Basketball-Without-Borders-camp-2.jpg"><figcaption>Image credit: NBA</figcaption></figure><p>Zubac’s Croatian National Team failed to qualify for the 2025 Eurobasket tournament, freeing up the big man for the summer.</p><p>“Jabarri [Reynolds – Head of International Player &amp; Team Operations] hit me up, asked me about this camp,” the Clippers center added. “I was very intrigued and wanted to see the next European generation. To see the best out of European talents and that was definitely a big thing.”</p><p>During the camp, which runs from August 12-15, the boys and girls will go through a variety of activities led by the players and coaches, including movement efficiency drills, offensive and defensive skill stations, three-point contests, and 5-on-5 live games. Additionally, the campers will also go through sessions where they’ll learn life-skills and work on leadership development.</p><p>Ivica Zubac, who just earned All-Defensive Team honors and finished second in Most Improved Player of the Year voting, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/reel/DNVBACztN8o/" rel="noopener">took time to coach players</a> with a focus the defensive end of the floor.</p><p>“It depends from player to player. I try to focus on the big guys, trying to help them out a little bit. Defensively, just trying to instill in them that they’ve got to communicate, they’ve got to be the loudest ones in the gym, they’ve got to navigate their guards and wings on a defensive end, they’ve got to call out the coverages early, they’ve got to be loud, and also just trying to help them with positioning [on the floor].</p><p>And then offensively, the same thing: trying to help them get to the right spot, help them with the angles of pick-and-rolls, of setting screens, and just trying to see as it goes. When I see something, I try to help them and try to share my knowledge and experience.”</p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/LA-Clippers-center-Ivica-Zubac-coaching-at-Basketball-Without-Borders-camp.jpg"><figcaption>Image credit: NBA</figcaption></figure><p>Aside from the 60 campers and the programs they’re going through, the Basketball Without Borders camp also includes Jr. NBA, Jr. WNBA, and Her Time to Play clinics for more than 250 kids from the local community between the ages of 12 and 16.</p><p>“Oh yeah, for sure,” Zubac responded when asked if his European background makes it even more important for him to attend these camps and coach the youth. “I was once in their shoes trying to get to the league, trying to become a professional player. So yeah, I think it’s more important for me to help them than some other guys.”</p><p>Coming off a surprising 50-win regular season but a disappointing first round exit, the LA Clippers made some big moves to bolster their roster around Zubac, Kawhi Leonard, and James Harden.</p><p>To start free agency, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/los-angeles-clippers/why-james-harden-was-superstar-la-clippers-needed">the Clippers brought in</a> Brook Lopez, traded for John Collins, signed Bradley Beal, and finished their offseason by bringing back former Clipper great and future Hall-of-Famer Chris Paul. The team lost a big piece in Norman Powell, but put together depth that could be unmatched by any other team in the NBA.</p><p>“I feel great,” Zubac told ClutchPoints. “The team, I really like the moves that we made. I think the whole team is confident, this roster looks really good on paper. I’m just excited to get it going, for October 1st to start, and to kind of see how it looks in the court, how it plays out. I think we addressed all our weaknesses that we had and I really like all the moves, so it’s all up to us now.”</p><p>Zubac is coming off a career-year with the Clippers, averaging 16.8 points, 12.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.1 blocks per game while shooting 62.8 percent from the field. The Los Angeles Clippers are one team that can benefit greatly from Durant’s skillset.</p><p>While <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-rumors-heat-rockets-spurs-named-kevin-durant-preferred-trade-destinations">Durant has said that he wants to commit</a> to either the Miami Heat, Houston Rockets or San Antonio Spurs, the Suns still owe it to themselves to pursue the best possible return for him. The Clippers have valuable players and assets that could go back to Phoenix in a Durant trade, including starting center Ivica Zubac.</p><p>Unfortunately for the Suns, the Clippers <a href="https://marcstein.substack.com/p/orlando-memphis-kevin-durant-and?utm_source=post-email-title&amp;publication_id=392205&amp;post_id=166031248&amp;utm_campaign=email-post-title&amp;isFreemail=false&amp;r=39f60&amp;triedRedirect=true&amp;utm_medium=email" rel="noopener">aren’t going to want to let go</a> of their emerging big man, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.</p><p>“We’ve been consistently told LA has no desire to part with Ivica Zubac … as much as Phoenix surely covets the consistently improving center,” Fischer wrote. “The Clippers, however, do hold two future first-round picks and some available swap rights to sweeten a potential Durant offer that would almost certainly require the inclusion of Norman Powell, Bogdan Bogdanovic and Derrick Jones Jr.”</p><p>The Clippers have plenty of good reasons for wanting to hold onto Zubac. He has developed from a role player into a two-way force, dominating games on the glass as well as on the defensive end. Offensively, he has great touch around the rim and has become a strong play-finisher around the basket, so he would be an immediate impact player on both ends of the floor.</p><p>Not putting Zubac in a trade will make it very difficult for the Clippers to pull off a Durant trade, but Los Angeles will feel that it is close to competing in the Western Conference either way.</p><p>Despite losing in seven games in the first round of the playoffs to the Denver Nuggets this season, the Clippers were playing some of the best basketball in the NBA during the back half of the season this year. If they can bring back a majority of that core into the 2025-26 season, Tyronn Lue and company will have confidence that they can beat just about anyone.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
