Smith’s uncanny behavior while on the Henny.</p><p>We all know what a drunk Smith looks like and this clip isn’t really shocking. Smith hilariously never put a shirt back on while celebrating the Cavs championship up until the parade that happened in downtown Cleveland.</p><p>It isn’t really known if Jefferson was in a relationship or married at that point. But what we do know is that he was one of the elder statesmen of the Cavs during those years.</p><p>Jefferson was apparently engaged to Kesha Ni’Cole Nichols in 2009, but the wedding never happened. Smith</a>, a player whose talent was only matched by his immaturity for well-documented segments of his career. Now largely matured, the 37-year-old Smith is a student at North Carolina A&amp;T State University, where he plays for their golf team.</p><p>Making an appearance on former NBA guard J.J. Redick’s highly regarded podcast, The Old Man &amp; the 3, Smith claims that Karl’s inability to draw up suitable Out-Of-Bounds plays was the reason the Nuggets lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the <a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/playoffs/2009-nba-western-conference-finals-nuggets-vs-lakers.html" rel="noopener">2009 Western Conference Finals</a>.</p><p>“Seriously,” Smith begins, before laying into the 2013 Coach of the Year. “We didn’t have one out of bounds play my whole time playing for this man. However, he did so while shooting 38.7 percent shooting from the field and 29.8 percent from 3-point range.</p><p>Not one to take an insult laying down, Karl offered a backhanded compliment to J.R. in response.</p><p>On the one hand, he says he’s happy to see what Smith is currently doing in life. The former MVP was especially effective during his new team’s short-lived playoff run, ably picking up ample offensive slack left by injuries to Paul George and Kawhi Leonard while serving as a true impact defender.</p><p>The Clippers, no surprise, are reportedly <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/clippers-news-paul-george-drops-truth-bomb-on-russell-westbrook-suns-series-future-with-la" rel="noopener">hoping Westbrook re-signs</a> this summer. No matter where he plays going forward, though, it’s pretty safe to say the veteran point guard will be better off than he was during an ill-fated tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers.</p><p>J.R. Smith addressed that dynamic over the weekend, telling Brandon ‘Scoop’ Robinson he was pleased to see <a href="https://twitter.com/hoops_bot/status/1654870731824709633" rel="noopener">Westbrook thrive with the Clippers</a> after his stint as a Laker proved disastrous.</p><p>“I understand what he was going through. Given the passion that he has for the game and then seeing people around you who are supposed to be ‘the closest to you’ and your teammates and your organization, kind of flip on you, and then the fan base…He’s a LA guy. He’s from LA. I’m pretty sure he grew up a Lakers fan,” Smith lamented. “So to have that type of experience with your home team, with your home city is really tough. Fortunately, I’m happy to see him go to the Clippers and have the success he’s had. Now he’s still able to have some type of reputable space when it’s all said and done and all over. The pair are friends and won a title together in 2016, but who could forget the lambasting Smith received for his infamous gaffe in the waning moments of Game 1 of the 2018 Finals, marring one of the greatest performances of James’ career?</p><p>Resonating more with Smith than any perils of being James’ teammate, though, was the harsh treatment Westbrook received from hometown fans—a lot like the type Smith got from New York Knicks fans earlier in his career.</p><p>“Being booed at home is a really tough thing. I got booed at the Garden; I’m from Jersey. I understand that, I know that and it’s hard,” Smith said. “But the end of the day, Russ is a competitor and I don’t think he really pays attention to too much outside noise. If you know the game and you’ve been around the game, I think he was way more of a respect for it. But if you don’t I don’t even really think he cares, honestly.”</p><p>Smith turned his career around after leaving the Knicks in 2014. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar made Brooks eat his words, though, by doing exactly what the outspoken Grizzlies said in LA’s Game 3 win over the Grizzlies. However, one particular moment that sticks out for the two-time NBA champ is when he first got the opportunity to face off against <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-spencer-dinwiddie-rick-fox-slander-has-fans-fuming" rel="noopener">Los Angeles Lakers</a> icon <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-paul-pierce-on-kobe-bryant-always-trying-to-take-my-head-off" rel="noopener">Kobe Bryant</a>. This was in Smith’s rookie year with the New Orleans Hornets, and let’s just say it didn’t exactly end well for him.</p><p>In a recent episode of JJ Redick’s <i>The </i><i>Old Man &amp; the Three </i>podcast, Smith recalled his unforgettable first encounter with the fallen Lakers icon. Smith explained how he and then-Hornets head coach Byron Scott prepared for their meeting by studying Kobe’s habits in practice:</p><p>“<a href="https://twitter.com/ClutchPointsApp/status/1646965865059962883" rel="noopener">First time guarding Kobe</a>,” Smith started, via ClutchPoints on Twitter. “In practice, we go over like little walkthrough, whatever. [Scott] is like, ‘Yeah, he’s gonna go two dribbles baseline, he’s gonna pump fake, he’s gonna pump fake again. Just stay down. No matter how many times he pump fakes, just stay down.'”</p><p>Smith and the Hornets had a game plan in place for Kobe, and it probably would have bore fruit for them if only JR stuck with it. Instead, he did the exact opposite:</p><p>“I tell you, I wasn’t in the game seven seconds,” Smith said. “Sure enough, out of a timeout I get subbed in. (Kobe) catches the ball in the wing. Two dribbles right. What do I do? And one. Sub. Smith talked about the 2015 NBA Finals vs the Golden State Warriors, and how Dellavedova pushed his body to the limits guarding Stephen Curry.</p><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><p>“Literally, almost died. We have footage of this man in the ice tub randomly to his neck trying to guard this man.”</p><p>The authenticity in Smith’s voice is apparent. He <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wp5oyO9auQ0" rel="noopener">tells about the sheer effort</a> that Dellavedova exhibited both on and off the court to be the best potential defender on Curry. Because of this effort, Smith chronicles how much respect that Dellavedova earned from him.</p><p>“He literally gave everything he had, and there was no excuse. There wasn’t like ‘oh he just had it going’ or ‘oh I’m trying’…it wasn’t none of that. He could barely talk after that’s how hard he was trying.”</p><p>Claiming that Dellavedova couldn’t even muster the energy to speak after puts the difficulty of guarding Stephen Curry into a little more perspective. It also speaks to how hard Dellavedova worked himself to guard him, but there is little doubt that Curry is one of the most mobile players in the game.</p><p>Matthew Dellavedova earned notoriety in Cleveland for his Cavaliers’ days, including ones during the 2016 NBA Finals run. It was a major move for the controversial swingman, and you can be sure that there will be a lot of interesting bits in this show. True enough, former Los Angeles Lakers teammate LeBron James is all for it.</p><p>LeBron did his bit to hype up the docuseries by <a href="https://twitter.com/KingJames/status/1643374856699002881" rel="noopener">sharing the trailer</a> on his own Twitter account. After all, this is JR Smith we’re talking about here, and there never really is a dull moment with this dude. Just ask LeBron James.</p><p>It is also worth noting that the show was produced by LeBron’s own production company/brand, Uninterrupted, and they have been pumping out some great content of late. This should be no different.</p><p>For those that need a reminder, LeBron and JR go way back. Smith was teammates with LeBron for many years with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and it resulted in the former’s first-ever career championship. JR then joined LeBron with the Lakers in 2020 in the bubble, and despite playing a minor role for the squad as a pandemic substitution, Smith still earned his second ring alongside the great LeBron James.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Not only did he win his first championship there, but their incredible 2016 title was also the first for the city. However, there’s one thing he “hated” about the whole run.</p><p>In a <a href="https://hoopshype.com/lists/jr-smith-knicks-carmelo-anthony-cavaliers-lebron-james-george-karl/" rel="noopener">new interview</a>, Smith opened up about his time in Cleveland and how special it was for him. However, he also shared that he didn’t like the way how it ended, especially since they could have dominated for many more years if they were able to keep their core.</p><p>“I had a great time in Cleveland. The fans were great, regardless of the meme or not. Winning that championship was something that will forever be in the history of basketball, but especially in the history of Cleveland, especially in the fashion that we did. I hated that it ended the way it did because I feel like that’s the only thing people harp on as much as we accomplished as a team,” Smith explained, via Hoops Hype.</p><p>“On top of that, we went to four straight (Finals) with obviously a dynasty in Golden State. Then, they acquired KD too. So that situation was a whole different dynamic. We lost Kyrie (Irving) too. So there were many variables. I’m thankful for my time in Cleveland. It was a great experience.”</p><p>The 2017-18 seasons was definitely quite a weird year for the Cavs. As JR Smith mentioned, they lost Kyrie Irving in the previous offseason, with the superstar guard demanding a trade out of Cleveland. It basically marked the beginning of an end for the team.</p><p>LeBron James and co. then made it all the way to the NBA Finals, but in the end, they were just lacking <a href="https://cavsnation.com/cavs-news-jr-smith-drops-truth-bomb-star-studded-2016-17-warriors" rel="noopener">against the Golden State Warriors</a> and got swept. James then left in free agency and the Cavs’ golden era was over in just a snap.</p><p>True enough, it’s hard to blame Smith for thinking what they could have accomplished if the group stayed for a couple more years. There hasn’t been a lot of interest in him as well, though he was recently linked with the Phoenix Suns after rumors spread that <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/suns-news-kevin-durant-hints-at-potentially-recruiting-carmelo-anthony" rel="noopener">Chris Paul and Kevin Durant</a> are trying to recruit him.</p><p>Amid Anthony’s free agency, Smith expressed his shock that teams aren’t signing him despite knowing what he can do offensively. The two-time NBA champion was already surprised when it took Melo nine months to find a job after his time with the Houston Rockets, and despite proving himself, teams are still doubting what he can do.</p><p><b>“</b>It’s <a href="https://hoopshype.com/lists/jr-smith-knicks-carmelo-anthony-cavaliers-lebron-james-george-karl/" rel="noopener">crazy to see that happen</a> to Melo because, to me, he’s always been one of the most talented people I’ve seen. With the playoffs coming and just a few NBA regular season games left, it seems unlikely any team will take a gamble on him.</p><p>Hopefully, though, Melo still gets a shot at the NBA and the title. As JR Smith said, he can still contribute to a team. Smith. It is set to release via Amazon’s Prime Video on April 4th. LeBron is producing the miniseries “Redefined: J.R. Smith” through <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lebron-james-net-worth" rel="noopener">his brand UNINTERRUPTED</a>.</p><p>The miniseries will focus on the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-lebron-james-jr-smith-honest-admission-about-playing-with-star" rel="noopener">former Cavalier guard’s career</a> after his NBA playing days. J.R. Smith enrolled in North Carolina A&amp;T after retiring and is currently a member of the men’s golf team at the university. Amazon includes a description of the series that reads as following:</p><p>“Redefined: J.R. Smith is a four-part docuseries following J.R. Smith, whose story serves as a powerful reminder that with determination and resilience, one can overcome even the toughest setbacks and achieve success. Drafted to the NBA straight out of high school at just 19 years old, J.R. suddenly finds himself without an NBA team to call home and in search of redefining his life and career. The series picks up with J.R. as he sets a new intention for himself, getting a college education and pursuing a new athletic passion as a member of the Men’s Golf Team at North Carolina A&amp;T, the nation’s largest Historically Black University.”</p><p>J.R. Smith is most known for playing with the Cleveland Cavaliers and was a member of the LeBron-led 2016 NBA champions. Smith made a huge <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-jr-smith-is-mvp-of-celebrations-per-danny-green" rel="noopener">splash during the championship parade</a>, taking his shirt off and becoming a viral sensation.</p><p>Other than the Cavs, Smith also played for the New Orleans Hornets, Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, and Los Angeles Lakers. With Spida’s lone triple of the game in the third quarter, he became the <a href="https://twitter.com/NBA/status/1633653684222525442" rel="noopener">all-time leader</a> in Cavs history for single-season three-pointers, passing JR Smith.</p><p>Following the game, Mitchell admitted it was a full-circle moment because of his relationship with Smith:</p><p>“It’s an honor,” <a href="https://www.cleveland.com/cavs/2023/03/cavs-beat-former-teammate-kevin-love-miami-heat-104-100.html" rel="noopener">Mitchell said</a>, via Cleveland.com. “The season he did it, I was a Cleveland Cavalier fan. I’m watching the Cavs on TV and screaming. To be able to say I’m part of history in this organization and a guy who lives not too far from me, I’ve worked out with him a thousand times, played pickup with him a thousand times, it’s truly special. Swish, sorry I had to do it to you but it’s a full-circle moment for me and I really appreciate it.”</p><p>That’s 205 made three-pointers for Donovan Mitchell on 535 attempts. In other words, a 38.3% clip from long range. Very respectable. Mitchell has always been a solid shooter from beyond the arc and this latest achievement reflects just that. Smith held the record since 2016 when he drained 204 in 77 contests. It’s only taken Spida 57 games to reach 205.</p><p>Mitchell finished Wednesday’s matchup with 18 points in 33 minutes of action but went just 1 for 7 from downtown. Nevertheless, the rest of the rotation stepped up and produced, with Darius Garland leading the charge with 25.</p><p>While this latest record is an honor for Donovan Mitchell, the ultimate goal is to still bring a title back to Cleveland. Smith went on to say, “I love Bron to death and I love playing on his team because for me, I feel like I thrive more under the pressure. But a lot of guys don’t like it because it can go one of two ways.”</p><p>Of course, playing with LeBron James proved to be a relatively fruitful exercise <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/celtics-news-paul-pierce-jayson-tatum-roasted-by-jr-smith" rel="noopener">for JR Smith</a>, who won both of his NBA Championships alongside him – the first for the Cleveland Cavaliers, the second for the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.</p><p>Despite those victories, however, in the eyes of many the most memorable moment the two shared on the court was not a positive one. JR Smith’s infamous brain-fade at the conclusion of the 2018 NBA Finals between the Cavs and the Golden State Warriors is etched into the annals of basketball history, with Smith seemingly forgetting the scores and failing to attempt to score in the final seconds of a tied game which LeBron ended with 51-8-8. The Warriors went on to win 124-114.</p><p>If anything, that such a moment is so widely remembered is testament to Smith’s comments. He may have proven a valuable team member to LeBron for many years and won two championships alongside him, but mention their playing relationship to any NBA fan and you’ll most likely hear about the aforementioned incident.</p><p>It’s hard to imagine too many NBA players not wanting to play alongside one of the greatest to ever play the game. At 37-15, they hold the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/celtics-news-jayson-tatum-gets-100-real-jaylen-brown-partnership-after-blowout-nets" rel="noopener">best record</a> in the entire league, as they have been for pretty much the entire season. In his mind, Celtics icon <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/celtics-news-jayson-tatum-draws-jaw-dropping-praise-from-paul-pierce" rel="noopener">Paul Pierce</a> believes that the current Boston starting 5 is unbeatable, especially if you throw himself and Kevin Garnett into the picture. Well, JR Smith clearly does not agree with Pierce’s bold claim.</p><p>It all started with Pierce asking who the fans believe would be able to defeat a five-man lineup that featured Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, Pierce, and Garnett. To be fair to JR, he does seem to have a point here. There’s no knocking down the Celtics’ current Big 3 of Tatum, Brown, and Smart. However, while there’s no denying that Pierce and Garnett are two of the greatest to ever do it, they’re not exactly in the best shape of their lives right now. Well, KG is still looking like he can ball out, but the truth about Pierce is that he’s put on quite a bit of weight since his retirement.</p><p>It would have been a different question if both Pierce and KG were in their prime. After all, this is the same duo that led the Celtics to their last title back in 2008. Then again, as JR Smith seems to want to point out, that was literally 15 years ago from today.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
