The superstar point guard suffered an ankle injury during the team’s preseason game against the Dallas Mavericks, and they need him at full strength. The Grizzlies could have something scary brewing with the Ja Morant and Zach Edey two-man game, at least teammate Marcus Smart thinks so.</p><p>Marcus Smart recently spoke about how the addition of Edey <a href="https://www.sportskeeda.com/basketball/news-it-s-going-deadly-marcus-smart-talks-ja-morant-zach-edey-pick-and-roll-potential-grizzlies-defensive-ceiling-exclusive" rel="noopener">will impact the team</a> on the court this upcoming season, as per Grant Afseth of Sportskeeda.</p><p>“Oh it’s going to be deadly, man. It’s just going to open up things even more for us, especially for Ja. We all know what Ja can do with a little bit of space, so just image what he can do with a lot of space cleared out by a big like Zach.”</p><p>Zach Edey gives the Grizzlies a legit center and size in the frontcourt. The team selected Edey with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft amid concerns about how his game might translate to the NBA. But the former Purdue big man played well in summer league.</p><p>And he played well in the Grizzlies preseason opener against the Mavericks. He finished with six points, seven rebounds, one steal and one blocked shot.</p><h2><b>Ja Morant’s return to the Grizzlies<br></b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Morant-during-preseason.jpg"><figcaption>Jerome Miron-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Ja Morant was suspended for the first 25 games of the 2023-24 season, but when he made his season debut he showed no signs of being rusty or out of shape. Unfortunately for the Grizzlies, Morant suffered a shoulder injury that ended up sidelining him for the majority of the year.</p><p>But Morant is back and set to make his return to the Grizzlies lineup. With him in the lineup, the Grizzlies’ ceiling is raised significantly. Last year they did not make the playoffs amid several key injuries. But if fully healthy, this team looks like they could be a factor in the Western Conference standings.</p><p>Morant had been coming off consecutive All-Star seasons before last year. He was only able to appear in nine games for the Grizzlies during 2023-24. He averaged 25.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 8.1 assists with splits of 47.1 percent shooting from the field, 27.5 percent shooting from the three-point line and 81.3 percent shooting from the free-throw line.</p><p>One of the next steps in his continued elevation is getting his three-point percentage up to a slightly higher efficiency. He’s a career 31.8 percent shooter from three and the highest percentage he’s ever shot is 34.4 percent. Although Morant did suffer an ankle sprain during the contest, it is reportedly not expected to be something that will affect his availability for the regular season.</p><p>Morant and the Grizzlies profile as perhaps an under the radar contender in the Western Conference heading into the 2024-25 campaign, as the team suffered essentially a lost season due to an overwhelming amount of injuries last year, including to Morant himself.</p><p>Recently, the NBA released some of the results from its annual general manager survey, and one of the questions asked was which player is poised for a breakout campaign in 2024-25. Morant’s name, for reasons unknown, somehow made the list despite the fact that he has already established himself as a star in the league, and Morant himself took to X, formerly Twitter, <a href="https://x.com/JaMorant/status/1844074609550975449" rel="noopener">to respond to</a> NBA TV’s report of the poll.</p><p>“respectfully .. why i’m on here?” wondered Morant, alongside a face palm emoji.</p><p>Winning the number one slot with 13 percent of the vote was Jalen Williams of the Oklahoma City Thunder, while Morant was tied with Evan Mobely of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs for second place.</p><h2><b>Can the Grizzlies return to relevance?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Morant-during-preseason.jpg"><figcaption>Jerome Miron-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Perhaps there’s been no team in modern NBA history that went from irrelevance, to marquee attention, and then back to being under the radar than the Memphis Grizzlies, who have endured all three of those stages of beings since the turn of the decade.</p><p>While just a year or two ago, Morant was arguably the most exciting young star in the league and the Grizzlies its most entertaining young team, those thrones have now been taken over by squads like the Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder.</p><p>However, Morant remains just 25 years of age and has arguably the deepest roster of his career intact this year, with veterans like Marcus Smart (who was brought in a year ago but missed much of last season due to injury) in the fold to help provide a stabilizing presence.</p><p>While Memphis isn’t expected to be a championship contender by most, it’s certainly not outside the realm of possibility that they could raise some eyebrows in 2024-25.</p><p>The Grizzlies’ season is set to get underway on October 23 on the road vs the Utah Jazz.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Even before Wednesday’s report that Morant would be fine, Jenkins and the Grizzlies didn’t seem to be worrying all that much about the light tweak their star suffered.</p><p>Regardless of how Morant feels over the course of the next couple of weeks in practice, the Grizzlies are going to monitor him very closely. It would not be a surprise if he plays limited minutes or is simply benched for the rest of the preseason in order to be ready for the start of the regular season.</p><p>The Grizzlies were hit harder than any other team by injuries last season, which is why the organization is going to be cautious with their approach to Morant’s latest mild ankle sprain.</p><p>Morant is a vital part of the Grizzlies’ potential success. After all, the team has won close to 58 percent of their games over the last five seasons when he plays.</p><p>Unfortunately, Morant’s 2023-24 campaign was cut short due to a shoulder injury once he was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/when-will-grizzlies-star-ja-morant-return-from-25-game-suspension">reinstated from his suspension to begin the year</a>. In the nine games he played, Morant averaged 25.1 points and 8.1 assists per game while shooting 47.1 percent from the floor.</p><p>Playoff expectations once again exist in Memphis, which is why Morant’s health comes before anything else for this franchise. With Stephen Curry, LeBron James and Kevin Durant likely headed to retirement by then, there will be some new faces on that squad. Two players getting a lot of buzz to fill the roster are Zion Williamson and Ja Morant.</p><p>Many analysts feel those two players are the key to the success of the Team USA 2028 Olympics basketball team.</p><p>“We will still have a great chance to win gold, but <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5825604/2024/10/08/zion-williamson-ja-morant-usa-basketball-void-pelicans-grizzlies/" rel="noopener">it won’t be easy</a>,” one USA Basketball source said, per The Athletic. “Ja and Zion need to be in the mix. Moving forward, hopefully they can get on track and stay on track.”</p><p>Williamson and Morant were both out of the mix for the 2024 Team USA squad. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/team-usa-news-tyrese-haliburton-coming-off-the-bench-for-america">That squad was loaded</a> with veteran talent, and ended up winning the gold medal at the Paris Olympics.</p><p>“If they (Team USA) would have called, you know, I would definitely have picked up, but I guess it wasn’t my time, which is OK,” Williamson said. “They went and went out there and brought gold home, which was great for the country. The men’s basketball as well as women’s basketball competitions in recent Olympics have been carried by the Americans. Team USA has won gold going back to the 2004 games, when the squad took bronze.</p><p>Williamson and Morant will have a lot of talent around them in 2028. While it’s not certain if Joel Embiid will return, Team USA should still have Anthony Davis, Anthony Edwards, and Jayson Tatum just to name a few. Team USA fans are quite excited to see what so many younger faces will do.</p><p>There will be competition for the gold medal in the 2028 games. Serbia pushed the American squad in Paris, and former NBA star Carmelo Anthony is openly <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/team-usa-news-carmelo-anthony-france-canada-warning-olympics">a fan of several other countries</a>. Even South Sudan gave Team USA all they wanted in warm-up game before the 2024 Paris Olympics.</p><p>Of course, there are still years to go before the 2028 Olympics. First and foremost, Williamson and Morant have to worry about the upcoming NBA season. Williamson is expected to be a key contributor for the New Orleans Pelicans, where he averaged nearly 23 points last season. Memphis held a 93-90 advantage over the Mavs by the end of the third quarter. However, the Grizzlies took note of an injury concern from Ja Morant after he rolled his ankle for the second time during the game.</p><p>Morant first tweaked his ankle during the second quarter while defending a two-on-one fastbreak. Then, he returned and suffered another ankle ailment after a cut and dunk to the basket in the third. He looked at the Grizzlies athletic trainer and <a href="https://x.com/NickVanExit/status/1843464575506620429" rel="noopener">gave the “I’m done” sign</a> after the second occurrence, per Nick Angstadt of the Locked On Network.</p><p>After the game, Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins said Morant <a href="https://x.com/espn_macmahon/status/1843483784936861858?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1843483784936861858%7Ctwgr%5Ebde8cd79a338fd13b4d76b566876c6fffeb45820%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.redditmedia.com%2Fmediaembed%2F1fypw8w%2F%3Fresponsive%3Dtrueis_nightmode%3Dfalse" rel="noopener">will be evaluated</a>, per ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, but the early signs are this “minor ankle tweak” is not serious. Morant himself said he’s “good” and that there was no reason to push things in the preseason.</p><p>Hopefully, Ja Morant will undergo a safe and speedy injury recovery. He finished the game with 13 points, four rebounds, and three assists. The Grizzlies will need the star point guard healthy if they want to avenge their 2023-24 showing.</p><p>Morant missed the latter half of the season due to a serious shoulder injury. Before that, he averaged 25.1 points, 8.1 assists, and 5.6 rebounds in nine appearances. Memphis is looking forward to having Morant’s services back, although, he might need to use a bit of extra caution with his dunks.</p><p>Still, anyone who knows Ja Morant knows he is a competitor who will not back down, not even from his own teammates. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/grizzlies-news-ja-morant-hilarious-zach-edey-response-dunk-question">Morant named fellow Grizzlies teammate Zach Edey</a> as one of the NBA players he has not dunked on yet that he would like to.</p><p>The Grizzlies held on to defeat the Mavericks 121-116 in their preseason opener. He joined ClutchPoints in 2023.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies are currently preparing for the upcoming 2024-25 season, which is slated to begin on October 23. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/grizzlies-news-ja-morant-sends-happy-message-doubters-after-lost-season">Morant missed the</a> majority of the 2023-24 season with an injury, which, combined with several other injuries, made for a bit of a lost season <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/grizzlies-news-memphis-reveal-new-starting-five-with-zach-edey">for the Grizzlies.</a></p><p>However, <a href="https://x.com/espn_macmahon/status/1841209171653370179" rel="noopener">there is optimism</a> that the Grizzlies can once again reassume there position among the Western Conference’s contenders this year with a roster fully healthy and intact.</p><p>One person who is putting a lot of pressure on himself and his teammates to perform this year is Morant himself, who recently spoke on media day about his outlook on this upcoming campaign.</p><p>“We all feel like we ain’t done s— yet,” said Morant, per Tim MacMahon of ESPN on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>Morant would be correct in his assessment.</p><p>While the Grizzlies were an exciting young team between 2021 and 2023, the team never actually accomplished much of note in the NBA playoffs besides a second round appearance in the 2022 playoffs, where they were sent home by the Golden State Warriors.</p><p>The 2023 season, the last time we saw Memphis healthy, resulted in a six game dismissal by the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the playoffs despite the Grizzlies being the second seed to the Lakers’ seventh.</p><h2><b>What is the Grizzlies’ ceiling?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Morant-at-media-day.jpg"><figcaption>Petre Thomas-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>On paper, there is quite a bit to like about this Grizzlies squad.</p><p>Morant remains one of the most electrifying players in the NBA, capable of carrying a team on his back at times and putting relentless pressure on opposing defenses with his athleticism and explosiveness.</p><p>Desmond Bane figures to only improve from his place in the league, which is already one of the better shooting guards in the NBA. And then there’s also Marcus Smart, a somewhat forgotten addition who also missed much of last season due to injury but is still just a couple of years removed from his (highly questionable) Defensive Player of the Year win with the Boston Celtics.</p><p>Jaren Jackson Jr. remains one of the league’s best shot blockers and more unique offensive weapons, capable of torching defenses everywhere from one foot to 25 feet away from the basket.</p><p>Combine all of these pieces and a bit of luck on the injury front, and the Grizzlies could once again represent one of the Western Conference’s higher seeds this year despite the improvements of the teams around them.</p><p>Memphis opens its season on October 23 vs the Utah Jazz.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Not only has the Memphis Grizzlies superstar had to deal with all of the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/grizzlies-star-ja-morant-takes-accountability-after-eye-opening-therapy">drama that came with his suspensions</a> from the team and league as a result of flashing a gun while on a live stream during the 2022-23 season, but the 2023-24 season came to a screeching halt for <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/grizzlies-news-ja-morant-season-ending-shoulder-surgery">Morant last year due to a labral tear in his right shoulder</a>.</p><p>Ahead of training camp and the start of the new season, Morant has a new aura to him. Since entering the league in 2019, Morant has grown as a leader for the Grizzlies, but more importantly, all of his experiences have helped shape him into a better man for his family.</p><p>At media day on Monday, Morant <a href="https://x.com/Brax_Avery" rel="noopener">explained</a> how he feels entering the new year and that he is very excited to enter this new chapter of his life.</p><p>“No matter what situation it was, I feel like it helped me a lot,” Morant told reporters, according to Avery Braxton of ABC24 Memphis. “Helped me grow more into a better Ja. Right now, I am probably the happiest I feel like I’ve been in a while. Just having my family, my AAU team, and the little things I was doing to keep me going.</p><p>“It makes me happy being able to do it this offseason; catching up with a lot of my family has been good.”</p><p>To say the last few years have been a struggle for Morant would be an understatement. Being just 25 years old and having to battle the mental strain his mistakes and injuries have caused takes a toll. But Morant has had a great support system around him, and he is using his past mistakes and failures as a pivotal point in his life to change.</p><p>That is why Morant has been able to plant the seeds for his comeback and why he is finally happy.</p><h2><b>Ja Morant gets uplifting support around NBA</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Ja-Morant-reacts-to-a-call.jpg"><figcaption>Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>The NBA is a brotherhood. Although players may be rivals and competitors on the court, many of them share close bonds off the court in their normal lives.</p><p>That is the case for Morant and Brooklyn Nets center Nic Claxton, as the two young players were once AAU teammates together before they even entered the NBA. While he was focused on answering questions about the Nets heading into the 2024-25 season at media day on Monday, Claxton took a moment to talk about his good friend, offering him the uplifting support Morant preached about at his media day press conference.</p><p>“I think he’s going to get back to himself. That’s all he has to do,” Claxton said of Morant on YES Network’s broadcast of Nets media day. “Get back to himself. I saw him this summer (and) he’s healthy, seems like mentally and physically. I always want to see us South Carolina guys win.”</p><p>Morant has made some mistakes. There are no questions about that. All three players come from South Carolina: Morant was born there; Williamson went to high school there; and Wilson played for the South Carolina Gamecocks in college.</p><p>Recognizing this heritage, SLAMOnline posted photos of the three athletes on X, formerly Twitter. In response, Morant <a href="https://x.com/JaMorant/status/1835823805861609705" rel="noopener">quoted the original post</a> and replied, “Stamp dat!!”</p><h2><b>Ja Morant builds a legacy with the Grizzlies</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Ja-Morant-guarded-by-Zion-Williamson.jpg"><figcaption>© Stephen Lew-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Besides their shared provenance, Ja Morant, Zion Williamson, and A’ja Wilson have made names for themselves in the world of basketball.</p><p>First, the Grizzlies drafted Morant second overall in 2019, hoping to find their franchise player as the Grit ‘n’ Grind Grizzlies ended their prolific run in the West.</p><p>The explosive guard out of Murray State University quickly became one of the league’s rising stars, thanks to his burst, athletic ability, and fearlessness to finish in the paint reminiscent of a younger Russell Westbrook.</p><p>Moreover, the two-time All-Star helped lead the Grizz back into the playoffs for three straight seasons, though the deepest they went was the second round in 2022, where they lost to the eventual champions Golden State Warriors.</p><p>Over that span, Morant and the Grizzlies have also built a reputation as brash young players who liked to talk, even though they haven’t really won anything to back it up.</p><p>Their overconfidence might have also rubbed players the wrong way, such as the time <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-lebron-james-responds-to-dillon-brooks-grizzlies-game-3">Dillon Brooks called LeBron old</a>, after which the Lakers eliminated them 125-85 in Game 6 of the 2023 first round.</p><p>Sending Brooks to the Rockets seemed to mark a new direction for the team, but <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/grizzlies-news-ja-morant-25-game-suspension-latest-ig-live-gun-incident">Ja Morant’s gun videos and consequent suspensions</a> also seemed to push them back. Still, a more mature Morant, with the addition of veteran Marcus Smart, should stabilize the Grizzlies and push them forward to their former spot as legitimate title contenders.</p><h2><b>South Carolina stars</b></h2><p>Meanwhile, the two-time All-Star Zion Williamson has yet to lead the Pelicans on a deep playoff run, but the addition of Dejounte Murray could help their quest. Moreover, the team seems to want to place all their cards on Williamson as they have yet to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/pelicans-news-brandon-ingram-drops-cryptic-post-about-value-amid-contract-drama">settle an extension with Brandon Ingram</a>, <a href="https://www.si.com/nba/pelicans/news/pelicans-ship-out-brandon-ingram-in-shocking-blockbuster-trade-proposal" rel="noopener">making a trade likely</a>.</p><p>On the WNBA side, A’ja Wilson scored 1,000 points in the Las Vegas Aces’ win over the Connecticut Sun on Sunday, becoming the first player in league history to do so in a single season. He gave Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson major props for her WNBA record-breaking feat in mid-September.</p><p>During the Aces’ Sep. 11 win over the Indiana Fever, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/aces-news-aja-wilson-fans-going-bonkers-breaking-single-season-wnba-record">A’ja Wilson broke the WNBA’s single-season scoring record</a> with her 941st point. Several players and fans congratulated Wilson for her incredible achievement, and Ja Morant gave the former MVP <a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1835786347963105670" rel="noopener">a fitting reaction</a> as well:</p><p>“Da mayor of SC. Known for his explosive athleticism and electrifying style of play, Morant recently drew comparisons to former NBA MVP Derrick Rose from none other than Joakim Noah, Rose’s former teammate with the Chicago Bulls.</p><p><a href="https://scoopb.com/2024/09/joakim-noah-dishes-on-mjs-influence-knicks-fandom-lebron-cleveland-dwight-howard-nabbing-his-lakers-roster-spot-d-rose-ja-morant-comparisons/" rel="noopener">During an interview</a> with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, Noah highlighted the similarities between Morant and Rose, stating, “I see it. I see a lot of similarities. They’re definitely hood favorites. It’s cool. I think there’s similarities in their explosiveness.”</p><p>While acknowledging the parallels, Noah also pointed out some key differences, noting that “physically I think D-Rose is a little bit more explosive.”</p><p>The comparison between Morant and Rose is not without merit. In their 97-79 win, Wilson scored 40 points and grabbed 17 rebounds, while shooting an incredible 70% from the field. Moreover, with this performance, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/aces-news-aja-wilson-replicates-candace-parker-feat-monster-game-vs-mercury">Aces star joined Candace Parker</a> as the only two WNBA players to score 40+ points and haul 15+ rebounds. Many of their early-season games were without point guard Chelsea Gray, who’d suffered a leg injury in last season’s WNBA Finals, and they played without a clear identity as a team.</p><p>Despite these struggles, A’ja Wilson remained the team’s biggest plus. She had set a WNBA record for scoring 20 points in 14 straight games to help keep the team afloat. Additionally, Wilson also became the third-fastest player to score 4,000 career points in the WNBA, only behind the Breanna Stewart and Diana Taurasi.</p><p>Now, though, after winning three of their last four games, the Aces have climbed up to a 20-12 record and a No. 4 seed for the playoffs. The Aces might have had a relatively lackluster season after their dominant 2022-2023 campaign, but they remain a dangerous team in a playoff series.</p><p>If Ja Morant’s assessment of A’ja Wilson proves correct, the Aces might have a three-peat on their hands.</p><h2>Outlook</h2><p>Meanwhile, the Memphis Grizzlies want to bounce back from a poor season that saw injuries decimate the roster. Having served his <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/grizzlies-news-ja-morant-25-game-suspension-latest-ig-live-gun-incident">hefty suspension, Ja Morant</a> ended up playing only nine games before an injury took him out for the season. Injuries also sidelined Desmond Bane and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/celtics-news-kristaps-porzingis-traded-to-boston-in-new-3-team-stunner-including-marcus-smart-grizzlies">new acquisition Marcus Smart</a>, and another injury caused the team to trade Steven Adams to the Houston Rockets.</p><p>Eventually, the Golden State Warriors put the Grizzlies out of their misery and eliminated them from postseason contention. Depending on how you look at the team, last season was either a slice of humble pie or an extreme setback.</p><p>After all, this was a brash young team who liked to talk, particularly Dillon Brooks, even though they didn’t have enough to back it up as effective heels. This cocky attitude even got a rise out of <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-lebron-james-responds-to-dillon-brooks-grizzlies-game-3">LeBron James, after Brooks called him “old.”</a></p><p>Now, though, the Grizzlies might have realized that anything can happen in the NBA. But Morant’s return isn’t the only cause for excitement for Grizzlies fans. They will also be getting the services of the 2024 Naismith College Basketball Player of the Year Zach Edey, who will presumably be their starting center for the upcoming season.</p><p>Fans got a glimpse of the future one-five pick-and-roll pairing after Morant <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C-6drblNH2c/" rel="noopener">posted a photo and video</a> of himself working out with Edey at Southern Methodist University’s basketball facilities. Per Cole, Draper has a history with Edey, with the former being an assistant coach at IMG Academy while the latter played on the team.</p><p>Given how many question marks Morant and Edey have heading into the 2024-25 season, it will be a sight for sore Grizzlies fans eyes to witness them getting in the lab and putting some work in. They will have huge burdens on their shoulder to lift Memphis back to contention in the loaded Western Conference, and it looks as though they are preparing for themselves for the herculean task that lies ahead.</p><h2>Grizzlies gear up for a bounce-back 2024-25 campaign</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Ja-Morant-sprints-past-a-defender.jpg"></figure><p>There’s no question that the 2023-24 season was a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/grizzlies-bold-predictions-after-2024-25-season-schedule-release">lost one for the Grizzlies</a>. They lost a plethora of key players to injuries, with Ja Morant most notably missing a chunk of the season after suffering a serious shoulder injury shortly after returning from a 25-game suspension to begin the year.</p><p>It may be hard to see just how impactful of a player Morant can be especially after a rough past 1.5 years, due to his troubles with firearms and other off-court issues, but he’s only 25 years old, and he’s only about to enter the prime of his career. He is an athletic marvel and one of the best floor-raisers in the association, with his ability to put pressure on the rim accentuating his ability to set up his teammates.</p><p>But Morant is expected to be back to superstar form, especially if he has truly put his off-court woes in the rearview mirror. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies’ starting center picture remains a bit hazy. It’s not quite clear who will assume the mantle of the starting five for Memphis, but given the investment in Zach Edey, it’s only logical for him to get a legitimate shot.</p><p>There are plenty of concerns from scouts surrounding Edey’s NBA-viability. Some believe that the Purdue product does not have enough athleticism to survive in a spaced-out league. He did flourish in the college game for sure, but the NBA game is a different animal that he may not be able to maximize his size advantage on the interior.</p><p>However, Edey has been opening eyes throughout Summer League, and now, partnering with Morant helps him get up to game speed. They’ve been released in a multitude of unique colorways, playing into the fact that Morant is a unique player in his own right. Just a month ago, we saw a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ja-morant-nike-ja-2-may-be-coming-soon-after-cryptic-leak">brief leak on social media</a> that seemed to capture the outsole of what was rumored to be the upcoming Nike Ja 2. Here, we see a slightly higher ankle cut with additional padding and support, along with an updated, oversized Nike Swoosh along the sides. We see a Nike Zoom outsole reminiscent of previous <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nike-kobe-6-protro-sail-set-for-spring-2025">Kobe sneakers</a> and we see a wavy, padded design along the upper comparable to the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/first-look-at-kevin-durants-new-nike-kd-16-slim-reaper">Nike KD 16</a>. The hallmark feature is the speckled midsole and Milky Way galaxy pattern along the back heels, ultimately highlighted where the shoe derives its “Stargazer” nickname.</p><p>The official style code for these will read <i>Bold Berry/Light Lemon Twist-Dark Raisin-Baltic Blue, </i>an interesting and vibrant combination that seems to work very well together. The offsetting blue and yellow logos are a solid touch and we see “12:AM” stitched onto both back heel tabs, another small yet effective detail for these shoes. All in all, we’d say this is an extremely clean debut colorway for the Nike Ja 2.</p><p>The Nike Ja 2 “Stargazer” is expected to release sometime in October 2024, with a rumored release date of October 3. They’ll come with a $120 retail tag, sticking with the mantra of being an affordable and accessible basketball sneaker to all.
