On Tuesday night, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/pacers-news-indiana-adds-ex-76ers-no-3-pick">Okafor suited up for the Indiana Pacers</a>, playing three minutes of garbage time in what ended up being a 128-115 defeat to the New York Knicks.</p><p>Okafor entered the NBA back in 2015 and was the second overall pick of the draft, selected by the Philadelphia 76ers. It was a bit poetic for him to return to the NBA and face off against the number one pick of that year, Karl-Anthony Towns. And while Okafor may not have met the expectations many had for him coming out of Duke, the fact that he was able to return to the NBA is already a major win in the eyes of fans.</p><p>“Good to see Jahlil Okafor back in the NBA,” X user @Fantasticslack <a href="https://x.com/Fantasticslack/status/1889511320891826508" rel="noopener">wrote</a>.</p><p>“Did I just see Jahlil Okafor??? Wow that’s wassup man,” @OnMahThrone <a href="https://x.com/OnMahThrone/status/1889511161428607209" rel="noopener">added</a>.</p><p>“Jahlil Okafor vs KAT in 2025 Telling someone that in 2015, they would’ve expected it… but now?” @KingBacca22x <a href="https://x.com/KingBacca22x/status/1889509503944597757" rel="noopener">furthered</a>.</p><p>Okafor, of course, was an emergency depth signing for the Pacers amid the injury to Myles Turner. The 29-year-old center was playing very well for Indiana’s G-League affiliate, averaging 18.6 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in 15 games, earning himself a call-up as a result.</p><p>It’s not quite clear just how big of a role Okafor can fashion for himself on the Pacers even with Turner out due to injury. But with Obi Toppin functioning as the team’s backup center at the moment, there is a chance that Okafor can earn himself some real rotation minutes depending on the matchup.</p><h2><b>The rise and fall of Pacers’ Jahlil Okafor</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Pacers-center-Jahlil-Okafor-15-defends.jpg"><figcaption>© Trevor Ruszkowski-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Jahlil Okafor was supposed to be one of the crown jewels of the Philadelphia 76ers’ infamous “Trust the Process” rebuild in the mid-2010s. But Okafor’s game was quickly outmoded upon his return to the NBA. A traditional back-to-the-basket center did not have much of a place in the modern game anymore, and Okafor did not have the defensive or athletic tools to impact the game far beyond his ability to put the ball through the basket.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-news-jahlil-okafor-former-top-draft-pick-new-team">Okafor did receive plenty of chances</a> to prove himself through his first six years in the league, but no other team gave him a shot after he flamed out by the end of the 2020-21 season. Meanwhile former Duke star Jahlil Okafor is out of the NBA, signing a deal <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-news-jahlil-okafor-former-top-draft-pick-new-team" rel="noopener">to play in Spain</a> recently.</p><p>Star Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton got <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/team-usa-news-tyrese-haliburton-steve-kerr-quarterback-comments" rel="noopener">a ‘quarterback’ comparison</a> from Team USA coach Steve Kerr that bodes well for the 2023-2024 NBA season. The star center Turner had a startling prediction that will <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/pacers-news-myles-turners-bold-tyrese-haliburton-indiana-prediction-will-hype-up-fans'" rel="noopener">fire up Indiana basketball fans</a>.</p><p>On Saturday it was revealed that Turner, who attended the University of Texas to play for the Longhorns, didn’t always have the Lone Star State in mind. With strong play on the inside from Turner, outside shooting from Haliburton and Buddy Hield, and a young team that has been making strides in recent years, the ingredients are there for a playoff run.</p><p>Turner is still just 27 years old and put up over 18 points per game last season for Indiana. He <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/3133628/myles-turner" rel="noopener">shot nearly 55%</a> from the field and snagged nearly 8 rebounds for the Pacers while improving his three-point percentage to over 37, up from 33 percent the previous season.</p><p>The budding star Turner won’t be mistaken for Nikola Jokic anytime soon, but he has outlasted his former rival Okafor and appears poised to take the next step in his career under Head Coach Rick Carlisle.</p><p>The hope for Pacers fans is that he has staying power, and more tricks up his sleeve, heading into a crucial season for a proud Eastern Conference franchise.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

In 2020/21 with the Pistons, the big man played in just 27 games due to a knee injury, averaging 5.4 points on 12.9 minutes per night. In fact, across the last seasons, he’s featured in just 57 games.</p><p>The Hawks have their main man at center in Clint Capela, but past him, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sports/nba/atlanta-hawks/roster">their depth is limited at the position</a>. Okafor could prove to be a solid backup when Capela needs a rest. The former Duke standout’s best campaign came way back in his rookie season in 2015/16, putting up 17.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest. He’s also capable of playing power forward if need be.</p><p>Okafor is still just 25-years-old as well. There’s more left in the tank but it will simply come down to if he can stay healthy enough. Well, we have an answer and another NBA trade.</p><p><a href="https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1433889032291954691">According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN,</a> Jordan is headed to the Detroit Pistons.</p><figure class="op-interactive"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">ESPN Sources: Brooklyn is trading C DeAndre Jordan, four future-second round picks and $5.78M to Detroit for Jahlil Okafor and Sekou Doumbouya. The Pistons are also receiving Sekou Doumbouya and four future picks in a nice haul for Detroit.</p><p>But, according to Woj, the Pistons are likely to work out on a buyout for Jordan, leaving his next team up in the air with <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-rumos-3-reasons-deandre-jordan-makes-zero-sense-for-la/">rumors circulating</a> about the Los Angeles Lakers being one potential option.</p><p>A buyout was always likely, and the Nets might be inclined to keep Okafor on the roster and received another young player in Sekou Doumbouya as well just to get rid of Jordan.</p><p>After the Nets brought in Paul Millsap and Patty Mills, not to mention re-signing Blake Griffin and apparently being linked to LaMarcus Aldridge in his NBA return, this move makes a ton of sense for Brooklyn as they get rid of Jordan’s contract.</p><p>Now, where is Jordan headed after his buyout with the Pistons?</p><p> </p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He joins the team on a two-year deal, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.</p><figure class="op-interactive"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">Free agent center Jahlil Okafor has agreed to a two-year deal with the Detroit Pistons, sources tell ESPN.</p><p>— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) <a href="https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1329938585043267584?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw" target="_blank">November 21, 2020</a></p></blockquote><p></p></figure><p>The 6-foot-11 center is coming off a decent year with the New Orleans Pelicans, which surely helped increase his value on the free agent market this offseason. He averaged 8.1 points along with 4.2 rebounds per game on only 15.6 minutes per game. With the Pelicans not having much of an identity at the center position, Okafor was able to make the most of his time through only 30 games last season. He battled a few injuries during his time with New Orleans, however, which hindered his production at times.</p><p>After getting off to a magnificent start his rookie season with the Philadelphia 76ers, Okafor’s production has steadily declined as the years have went on. The Pistons are in the midst of revamping their frontcourt after signing Mason Plumlee on Friday as well. Both Plumlee and Okafor will likely see interchangeable minutes at the center spot alongside Blake Griffin.</p><p>Newly hired general manager Troy Weaver is obviously attempting to trend in a different direction versus what the team has been able to accomplish in the past.
