He joined ClutchPoints in 2023.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/knicks-news-spike-lee-puts-celtics-notice">The New York Knicks are looking to challenge the Boston Celtics</a> for Eastern Conference supremacy this year following their shocking trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves for Karl-Anthony Towns. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/knicks-news-karl-anthony-towns-has-hilarious-reaction-after-ending-preseason-drought">Towns is already starting to look comfortable</a> in his new threads, and New York is now just one week ago from kicking off their season in Boston.</p><p>The Knicks of course are led by star point guard Jalen Brunson, who put together the best season of his career a year ago and looks poised for another All-NBA caliber campaign in 2024-25.</p><p>Recently, former Washington Wizards star Gilbert Arenas hit Brunson with <a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1846243368827080850" rel="noopener">a lofty comparison</a> that perfectly encapsulates what he brings to the table as a point guard, via the Gils Arena Show podcast.</p><p>“He’s a scoring Chris Paul,” said Arenas. “…Brunson ain’t going to hit two threes and then come down and try to take a 40 footer just for a heat check.”</p><p>While Brunson’s passing ability might not be quite up to the all-time great level of future Hall of Famer Chris Paul, he does bring a floor general quality to the game, one that the Knicks were sorely missing before his arrival during the 2022 offseason.</p><h2><b>Is this the year for the Knicks?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Brunson-during-preseason.jpg"><figcaption>Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Towns move made it clear, if it wasn’t abundantly so already, that the Knicks’ brass are pushing all of their chips into the center of the table for this upcoming 2024-25 season.</p><p>Prior to that deal, the Knicks had already resigned OG Anunoby to a long term contract as well as traded a shocking amount of first round draft picks for Mikal Bridges of the crosstown rival Brooklyn Nets.</p><p>By adding Towns, New York shored up the one true weakness on its roster in its frontcourt depth, something that was going to be a major concern with Mitchell Robinson expected to miss the opening chunk of the season due to injury.</p><p>The Knicks also alleviated themselves of the stress of having to count on Julius Randle to produce in the playoffs, and also provided more spacing to their offense for Brunson to have room to operate both in isolation and within the flow of the game.</p><p>Now, New York can run two-big lineups similar to what Towns did with the Minnesota Timberwolves once Robinson is healthy or can play a five out style, depending on the opponent.</p><p>In any case, the Knicks’ season is set to begin on October 22 on the road vs the Celtics at 7:30 PM ET.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Anthony Edwards is taking the NBA’s tune-up time personally, bringing the intensity for the Minnesota Timberwolves.</p><p>Edwards was everywhere in the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/timberwolves-news-donte-divincenzo-flames-knicks-karl-anthony-towns-trade">Timberwolves’ 115-110 loss to the New York Knicks</a> at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. I ain’t never seen a star Athlete with his caliber getting so excited and pump on defense.. Ant didn’t even care for the rebound he was locked in on Brunson 😭😭,” one fan wrote on X, formerly Twitter. Another added, “Lmaoo I’m so glad I bought that fan stock early for Antman. My favorite young player in the league.”</p><p>Edwards is also bringing back the excitement to the NBA preseason as the regular season inches closer.</p><p>“These preseason games this year ooze so much passion, can they just start the season already,” a fan posted.</p><h2><b>Anthony Edwards, Timberwolves trying to back up deep playoff run in 2024-25</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Anthony-Edwards_7e39b5.jpg"><figcaption>Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>One year after making a deep playoff run to the Western Conference Finals, the Timberwolves are looking to take it a step further this season. That was evidenced by their last-minute desperation trade attempt to shake up the roster, as they sent <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/timberwolves-news-julius-randle-unfinished-business-truth-bomb-knicks-trade">Karl-Anthony Towns to the Knicks for Julius Randle</a>, Donte DiVincenzo and draft compensation.</p><p>The changes are interesting, as Randle’s fit next to Rudy Gobert in the Timberwolves’ front court is murky, but DiVincenzo should provide a huge boost to the team on the wing as both a shooter and a defender. Regardless, Minnesota’s ceiling comes down to Edwards taking one more leap.</p><p>Edwards jumped from a promising young player to a superstar last season, upping his aggression and his efficiency on his way to averaging a career-high 25.9 points per game. He had a few legendary playoff moments during the Timberwolves’ series wins against the Phoenix Suns and the Denver Nuggets before running out of gas a little bit in against the Mavericks in the Conference Finals.</p><p>Edwards also took a big leap as a playmaker and as a defender, averaging a career-high 5.1 assists per game while morphing into an All-Defense contender.</p><p>He has already taken the big leap into superstardom, but Edwards has another small improvement to make in order to truly become one of the few best players in the league. If he can increase his shooting efficiency, become a quicker decision maker with the ball in his hands and continue on his trajectory to becoming one of the premier wing stoppers in basketball, we could quickly be talking about Edwards as a perennial MVP candidate.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Donte DiVincenzo and Jalen Brunson’s father Rick Brunson had to be separated after the Knicks defeated the Timberwolves 115-110 on Sunday night.</p><p>DiVincenzo, who was recently traded by the Knicks to the Timberwolves, <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/10/13/sports/donte-divincenzo-appears-to-chirp-at-knicks-tom-thibodeau-in-msg-return/?utm_campaign=iphone_nyp&amp;utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social" rel="noopener">had a heated exchange</a> with Brunson’s father, who walked up to him when players were shaking hands (via New York Post Sports on X, formerly Twitter). I don’t know fully well what was said,” DiVincenzo said after facing the Knicks for the first time since they traded him last month. “A lot of people there. But I really have no comment on the situation. I think we’ll both be men and talk about it privately.”</p><p>Jalen Brunson was doing his best with lightening the occurrence, but the whole incident appeared to be as DiVincenzo said.</p><p>“My relationship with Jalen — that’s my brother, my best friend,” DiVincenzo said. “That’s a separate relationship. I said I’ll talk about that privately and figure that out.”</p><p>There were times during Sunday’s game where DiVincenzo was seen chirping at the Knicks bench, but it appears as if it was all just words in the heat of the battle.</p><h2><b>Jalen Brunson weighs in about incident between Donte DiVincenzo and Rick Brunson</b></h2><p>Brunson, who led the Knicks in scoring with 24 points on Sunday, had a chance to address whatever was going on between his good friend and father. The All-Star point guard put it simple.</p><p>“Two people talking,” he said. “Words of affirmation.”</p><p>It’s still uncertain what exactly the issue was between DiVincenzo and Brunson, but it’s likely that whatever gripe they have with each other is yet to be fully settled.</p><p>The former Villanova teammates got their first opportunity to play against each other in a long time. DiVincenzo signed with the Knicks in July 2023 with <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/knicks-news-josh-hart-details-tough-mindset-donte-divincenzo-departure">other college teammate Josh Hart</a> being traded there in February 2023.</p><p>Sadly, the Knicks won’t fully have all of their star pieces from the 2017-18 national champion roster, but they will certainly be close by adding Mikal Bridges in the offseason. After <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/knicks-news-jalen-brunson-karl-anthony-towns-fit">Brunson revealed what he said about the trade</a>, Towns spoke about the <a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1841936471931969982" rel="noopener">first thing he said</a> to his new teammate.</p><p>“First thing I did,” Towns said, via KNICKS ON MSG. “I walked up to Jalen [Brunson] &amp; introduced myself. Said that my name was Karl. I know that was a struggle for him… It’s not my home. It’s our home. These guys have done something special.”</p><p>Towns has one of the most unique skill sets the league has ever seen. It’s a blend of post moves, shooting, and touch around the rim. After the Knicks have used Mitchell Robinson as their center, this is a new change of pace for New York. Both Towns and Brunson can greatly benefit from each other in the two-man game. Pick-and-rolls and pick-and-pop situations will be lethal for any team to cover.</p><p>However, it’s not only the product on the court that can improve for the Knicks.</p><h2><b>What can Karl-Anthony Towns bring that will benefit Jalen Brunson and the Knicks?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Karl-Anthony-Towns-reveals-the-first-thing-he-said-to-Knicks-point-guard-Jalen-Brunson.jpg"><figcaption>© Jerome Miron-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Towns can bring that Knicks attitude that the identity has been since head coach Tom Thibodeau took over. The former No. 1 pick was coached by Thibodeau when he was in Minnesota. The two have a strong relationship and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-tom-thibodeau-karl-anthony-towns-trade">Thibodeau was a significant factor</a> as to why Towns landed in New York. He had some of his best seasons under the current Knicks head coach.</p><p>Despite the criticism about his mentality, an <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/knicks-news-karl-anthony-towns-soft-label-put-on-blast">NBA insider pushed back about Towns being soft</a>. Ever since the incident with Miami Heat guard Jimmy Butler, the perception around Towns hasn’t changed. Although he’s looked to be dominant, people have clouded judgment against the All-Star.</p><p>Towns isn’t the bruiser type of player. He’s about finesse and it’s guided him to several awards. One of those awards, though, hasn’t been achieved and that’s an NBA championship. New York is hoping to make it past the Eastern Conference Semifinals, where Brunson went down with a broken hand. Although that injury derailed the rest of the season, the potential is there for the Knicks to be a powerhouse.</p><p>While they have to compete with a tough Eastern Conference, the addition of Towns can ultimately be a deciding factor. After they missed out on the Eastern Conference Finals, they upgraded hugely. Brunson teased <a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1841161347645505871" rel="noopener">KAT’s impact once he landed in the Big Apple</a>.<br><br>“He’s going to be a great piece once he gets here and then we’ll go from there,” Brunson said.<br><br>The Knicks had a solid center rotation throughout the 2023-24 season with Isaiah Hartenstein and Mitchell Robison. The latter missed a decent chunk of the season with a knee injury, so Hartenstein stepped in. While he was a solid contributor, not many centers can bring what Anthony Towns brings.<br><br>He has a unique blend of shooting, ball-handling, playmaking and post-work. While he’s spent the last two seasons with Rudy Gobert, he was forced to play the power forward position. Even though KAT still succeeded, it limited his offensive prowess. He wasn’t able to dominate the paint as effectively, since Gobert was establishing his presence there.</p><h2><b>How can Karl-Anthony Towns fit in with Jalen Brunson and the Knicks?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Jalen-Brunson-is-excited-for-Karl-Anthony-Towns-on-the-Knicks.jpg"><figcaption>© Brad Penner-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Now, there is a plethora of space for Anthony Towns to use. He has <a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/NYK/2025.html" rel="noopener">Brunson, Mikal Bridges, and Josh Hart within the starting lineup</a>. All of those players can make threes at an efficient rate. The interesting thing will be the two-man game between Brunson and KAT. The latter isn’t a rim-runner like Mitchell Robinson is. He’s more of a true scorer.</p><p>There can be a lot more pick-and-pop situations with the two, in addition to simple post-ups. Both Brunson and KAT are excellent for their positions with operating on the block. As a result, the Knicks can be a heavy free-throw shooting team. The inside-out presence with two of the most important positions can be great.</p><p>However, there are still some concerns about the defense. While Brunson was alright defensively, he had Robinson as the rim protector. KAT hasn’t shown much of being an elite rim protector. Although he’s improved every season, it might not be at the level necessary to win.</p><p>Both the Knicks and the Timberwolves were great teams because of not only their perimeter defense but the rim protection. Both Robinson and Gobert are fantastic rim protectors for their position. Having Anthony Towns replace Robinson could be a downgrade on the defensive side of the ball.</p><p>Despite the defensive concerns, the Knicks are getting one of the most talented and gifted centers in the NBA. Now that he’s reunited with head coach Tom Thibodeau, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-knicks-real-reason-for-karl-anthony-towns-blockbuster-trade">KAT should be a focal point of the offense once again</a>, along with Brunson.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
