With the Knicks on the verge of locking up the 3-seed in the Eastern Conference before the playoffs, Brunson appears to be gearing up to make his return from this ankle injury.</p><p>After the All-Star guard recently told reporters that he’s been feeling a lot better and doing on-court work, Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau provided a minor update on Brunson’s status after the team’s 124-105 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night.</p><p>Although he still has some checkpoints to cross before fully returning, Thibodeau said Brunson has been <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/04/03/sports/jalen-brunson-could-be-back-in-knicks-lineup-this-weekend/" rel="noopener">cleared for “basketball activities,”</a> according to Stefan Bondy of the New York Post.</p><p>Brunson traveled with the team to Cleveland, and he will be with them again in Atlanta for Saturday’s game, leading to speculation that he could be cleared in time to play against Trae Young and the Hawks.</p><p>With two full days off to prepare in Atlanta, Brunson can continue to receive around-the-clock treatment on his ankle and have the medical staff evaluate his on-court work. If he can practice in full with no limitations, there is real optimism that he will return either Saturday against the Hawks or on Sunday in the second night of a back-to-back when the Knicks host the Phoenix Suns.</p><p>The important factor for Brunson to return at this stage of the season is the dreaded 65-game minimum rule for players to remain eligible for postseason awards and honors. Brunson has played 61 games for the Knicks, meaning he will need to play at least 20 minutes in four of their remaining six games to qualify for the All-NBA list.</p><p>In the 14 games that Brunson missed, the Knicks have gone 8-6 with some concerning losses to the San Antonio Spurs and Charlotte Hornets in this span.</p><p>The Knicks are currently 48-28 following Wednesday’s loss in Cleveland and own the fifth-best record in the NBA, and third-best in the Eastern Conference. All-Star point guard Jalen Brunson <a href="https://x.com/KnicksMSGN/status/1906460934681632989?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet" rel="noopener">revealed</a> before the Knicks 110-93 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers that he hopes to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-rumors-jalen-brunsons-injury-rehab-moving-faster-than-expected">return before the playoffs</a>. That means that <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-news-new-york-jalen-brunson-return-injury-2025">New York will probably be whole</a> before the season is over, allowing them to ramp back up just in time for the postseason.</p><p>However, in playing the past 12 games without Brunson, the Knicks were forced to do some soul searching. They had to figure out how to initiate their offense, make up a considerable chunk of points per game, and replace their crunch time leader. Well, they have gone 7-5 so far during Brunson’s absence, and they have learned a considerable amount about their team in the process. Let’s review exactly what’s been learned.</p><h2><b>Mikal Bridges is confident, and he needs more freedom</b></h2><p>Mikal Bridges has had a difficult time finding a role for much of the 2024-25 season. He was offensively inconsistent and struggled to locate shot opportunities and fluidity.</p><p>However, during Brunson’s absence, Bridges has looked to be enjoying his newfound freedom. Over the aforementioned 12-game stretch, Bridges is averaging 22.2 points and 5.2 assists in 36.9 minutes per game. That’s up from 17.2 points and 3.4 assists in 37.8 minutes per game in the previous 62 contests.</p><p>Bridges simply looks more comfortable without a ball dominant point guard on the flood. He’s holding the ball a little longer, and in this case, that’s a good thing. He’s finding his spots and taking good shots. And it’s important to note that this isn’t necessarily a Brunson problem. This is about Bridges struggling to understand how to play as a fourth option. Maybe getting back to having a bigger role will lead to him playing differently alongside Brunson. Either way, Bridges regaining his confidence can’t hurt New York.</p><h2><b>OG Anunoby has shifted into another gear</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/OG-Anunoby-drives-to-the-basket-against-Milwaukee-Bucks-forward-Giannis-Antetokounmpo-in-the-second-half-of-a-recent-road-game.jpg"><figcaption>Mandatory Credit: Michael McLoone-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p> </p><p>OG Anunoby has been great for most of this season, but he’s had a similar jump in productivity as Bridges since Brunson’s been out.</p><p>Receiving essentially the exact same playing time, Anunoby is averaging 22.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.3 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game during the past 12 contests. Comparatively, he was averaging 16.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.1, assists, 1.3 steals, 0.9 blocks per game in the 56 games he played before Brunson’s injury.</p><p>Anunoby looked even more aggressive over the past few weeks. He’s relentlessly attacking the basket, and his jump shot looks great. His defensive intensity has remained high too, while he has figured out how to have a greater impact on the offensive end of the floor.</p><h2><b>Delon Wright can be trusted, if need be</b></h2><p>Delon Wright was a throw-in of sorts in a trade with the Milwaukee Bucks. The deal allowed New York to shed the salary of Jericho Sims, who they didn’t really need anymore.</p><p>Well, Wright’s presence finally paid off. He’s started the last two games, and he’s played well.</p><p>Wright has scored the basketball (9.5 points per game), even making some big shots along the way. He’s also averaging 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 block in 32.5 minutes per game. And he’s been a part of the Knicks winning two straight games.</p><p>Wright’s long-term future remains unclear, and he’ll obviously play significantly fewer minutes once Brunson and Miles McBride, who also suffered an injury a few games back, return. However, it’s great to know that coach Tom Thibodeau has someone else to whom he can turn to orchestrate the offense.</p><h2><b>Tyler Kolek is ready for a bigger role with the Knicks</b></h2><p>New York has established that <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/tyler-kolek-continues-prove-himself-first-real-nba-test-knicks">Tyler Kolek is likely ready for a bigger role</a>—if not immediately, then definitely next season. Kolek’s role changed dramatically once McBride went down. Across the last five games, Kolek has averaged 2.2 points, 6.4 assists, and only 0.4 turnovers in 17.4 minutes per game. While his stats don’t jump off the page, they’re meaningful—especially when considering how well he’s taken care of the ball—to a coach like Thibodeau.</p><p>While a healthy rotation probably dictates that Kolek get reacquainted with the bench for the remainder of this season, his recent play should be cause for discussion about a bigger role next season. Cam Payne, the team’s primary backup point guard, will be a free agent this offseason. And while Payne might be retainable, elevating Kolek to the primary backup would be ideal if he can handle it, as it means money spent on a backup point guard can be re-directed elsewhere. And the last few games give the front office game tape on which they can base their decision.</p><p>New York seems to be hitting their stride at just the right time. They still have to successfully reintegrate Brunson, but assuming that happens, his recent absence probably helped the team significantly more than it hurt them. New York has since dropped puzzling contests against the San Antonio Spurs and Charlotte Hornets, among others, but are still entrenched firmly in the Eastern Conference’s third seed.</p><p>Of course, any chances that the Knicks have of making noise this postseason rise and fall with Brunson’s playing status, and recently, head coach Tom Thibodeau gave <a href="https://sny.tv/articles/knicks-jalen-brunson-progressing-faster-ankle-injury-3242025" rel="noopener">an optimistic update</a> regarding just that, per Ian Begley of SNY.</p><p>“He’s doing more and more each day. He’s feeling a lot better,” Thibodeau said recently. “So really good progress. But day-to-day, basically.”</p><p>Thibodeau also noted that Brunson is “doing a lot of shooting, working the pool, working the bike. Stuff like that. So his conditioning is pretty good actually,” and that being cleared for practice is likely the next step in his recovery process.</p><p>Begley added that Brunson’s rehab is “progressing faster than initially anticipated.”</p><h2><b>Good news for the Knicks</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Brunson-vs-the-Lakers.jpg"><figcaption>Gary A. Had <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/dallas-mavericks/mavs-news-jalen-brunsons-nba-dad-fires-warning-to-mark-cuban-dallas-on-free-agency">Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks</a> played their proverbial cards right, however, Brunson may have never donned a Knicks jersey at all.</p><p>During the 2021-22 season, Brunson broke out as a Mavericks starter and one of the team’s best players. In the postseason, particularly, Brunson shined.</p><p>Fortunately for him, 2022 marked the year his contract with the Mavericks expired, and he was due for a big bump in pay. As a second-round draft pick in 2018, Brunson made about $6 million over the first four seasons of his NBA career.</p><p>The Mavericks could have extended Brunson before the 2022 offseason; in the summer of 2021, Brunson became eligible for a four-year, $55.5 million extension.</p><p>But Dallas opted to not extend an offer to keep Brunson long term at that time, and once the following summer arrived, it was clear Brunson had his eyes pointing toward the Knicks, who had recently hired<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-news-ny-breaks-silence-on-nbas-rumored-investigation-of-rick-brunsons-promotion"> his father Rick</a> as an assistant coach and his former agent Leon Rose as the team’s president.</p><p>Still, Rick claims in an ESPN story by Tim McMahon that Jalen was <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/44320045/the-wonder-boy-jalen-brunson-tim-macmahon" rel="noopener">willing to sign an</a> extension with the Mavericks if they came in with the right number.</p><p>“Yo man, I know what [Cuban is] doing,” Rick Brunson purportedly told his wife and son of a scheduled free-agent meeting between Jalen and the Mavericks. “He’s going to come to New York and say, ‘Here goes a max deal.’ I’m thinking the guy got money coming off his ass. So he’s coming with a max deal and then going to say, ‘What you going to do?'”</p><p>Jalen Brunson, according to Rick, said he would take the max deal, which would have been $175.5 million over five years. However, the meeting never came to fruition, as the Mavericks canceled it. Soon thereafter, Jalen signed a four-year, $104 million deal with the Knicks. He has since signed a four-year, $156.5 million extension with New York, which begins next season.</p><p>Although Rick Brunson said he wanted his son to leave Dallas after perceived disrespect, he said a bigger offer from Dallas would have at least made Jalen have to think about whether he was ready to leave for New York.</p><p>“But I tell you this, this is a conversation we had: if Dallas offers the same money or more, I don’t know if he leaves. Come with the money. Make it hard! You didn’t. You made it easy,” Rick Brunson said.</p><p>With Brunson leading the way, the Knicks have established themselves as one of the top Eastern Conference teams. That stability on defense will be crucial as they await Brunson’s return.</p><h2><b>The Charlotte Hornets handing the New York Knicks their second straight loss</b></h2><p>With Brunson sidelined Thursday night, the Charlotte Hornets capitalized and pulled off an upset in Uptown, securing a 115-98 victory.</p><p>The Knicks (43-26) dropped their second consecutive road game against a struggling opponent, following Wednesday’s setback in San Antonio. Their offense faltered, hitting just 40 percent of their shots, while Charlotte took advantage with a 48.9 percent shooting display.</p><p>OG Anunoby contributed 25 points, while Karl-Anthony Towns added 24 points and 10 rebounds. After waiting months for <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-ongoing-struggles-overshadow-mitchell-robinson-return">Mitchell Robinson to return from an injury suffered in last season’s playoffs</a>, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-news-jalen-brunson-injury-update">Knicks recently lost their All-Star point guard to an ankle injury</a>. Thus, reviews of the team remain incomplete, as there is limited game tape of a fully healthy Knicks’ roster to review. Still, there is a light at the end of the tunnel in the form of defensive progress <i>and</i> an increasing hope around a Jalen Brunson return.</p><p>First, the good news. Brunson is <a href="https://x.com/StevePopper/status/1902838070019338745" rel="noopener">reportedly out of his walking boot</a> and has begun some shooting work, per Steve Popper of Newsday Sports. So, it’s plausible to think that Brunson can return by early to mid-April.</p><h2><b>Brunson’s absence hurt Knicks’ offense</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Jalen-Brunson-drives-to-the-basket.jpg"><figcaption>Wendell Cruz-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Knicks are obviously better with Brunson. It’s hard to say how good they are defensively with him and Robinson. But their offense is <i>clearly</i> worse without him. New York is tied for seventh in points per game (116.6) and fifth in offensive rating (117.7) on the entire season, which includes their sub-par play of late with their captain.</p><p>However, since losing Brunson, New York is  averaging 109.5 points per game, which would rank 25th in the league if extrapolated for the year.</p><p>Looking at why the team’s offense has stagnated, one thing jumps out—New York’s poor field goal percentage. On the season, which (again) includes some recent poor performances, the Knicks are shooting just 48.7%, which is good for fourth in the league. They are shooting just 43.9% from the field in the six games without Brunson. For context, that would be tied with the Brooklyn Nets and Washington Wizards for second-worst in the league.</p><h2><b>Robinson’s return gives signs of things to come for Knicks defense </b></h2><p>Conversely, the Knicks defense has been playing incredibly well of late, and that’s to the credit of Robinson—and in fairness, has little to do with Brunson’s absence.</p><p>The Knicks have a defensive rating of 112.4 through nine games with Robinson this season, compared to 116 without him. Their updated defensive rating includes a recent let-down game against the undermanned San Antonio Spurs, in which the Spurs dropped 120 points.</p><p>Through nine games, Robinson is tied for the fifth-best defensive box plus/minus among centers (1.4) in the NBA and seventh-best overall box plus/minus among centers (3.3).</p><p>And the Knicks should be optimistic about their future with Robinson. The seven footer is far from ramped up. He’s only achieved a season-high 23 minutes, which came in a recent win against the Miami Heat. And Robinson is averaging only 16 minutes per game since returning. A lighter work load makes a lot of sense considering how injury prone Robinson has been through his seven-year career.</p><p>But when healthy and locked in, there are few centers like Robinson. He provides a near perfect mix of physicality, length, and grit. He has a nose for the ball, especially on the offensive glass. And he’s among the best rim protectors in the league.</p><p>There have been some encouraging signs for Robinson—namely, a recent double-double (13 points and 11 rebounds in just 17 minutes) in their loss to San Antonio. And his impact should continue to grow as he plays more minutes.</p><h2><b>Knicks immediate future <i>could</i> be brighter than we thought</b></h2><p>What the Knicks need is simple and, dare we say, probable (albeit not guaranteed)—a Brunson return before the playoffs <i>with</i> Robinson remaining healthy and improving his conditioning. If that happens, the Knicks could theoretically merge the second-ranked defense with an elite offense. Granted, there are still depth issues that New York must solve, but a healthy Robinson makes them easier to navigate. Remember, a healthy Robinson means there are essentially seven starting caliber players in the team’s rotation (which includes Miles McBride, as well).</p><p>Further, the Knicks depth issues aren’t as much of a problem in the playoffs, as rotations typically shrink. At that point, rest becomes more of a priority than depth. So, much of the onus falls on the team to put away whomever they face in the first-round as quickly as possible. Getting an extra day or two of rest before a possible second-round appearance could make a tremendous difference.</p><p>Obviously, that’s easier said than done, as the Knicks will likely face the Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, or Milwaukee Bucks—with all three being dangerous in their own right. But at the end of the day, New York has bigger fish to fry after the first-round. They cannot afford to look past any opponent. But they must remember which teams they would be set to face farther along in the playoffs. Hopefully they respond accordingly.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

During the time that Brunson has been sidelined, the Knicks have gone 2-1 with a big game against the Golden State Warriors coming up. With the final stretch of the regular season coming up, the Knicks recently <a href="https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/1901070886201160136" rel="noopener">received a timeline update</a> for Brunson’s return, as per Shams Charania of ESPN.</p><p>During an appearance on NBA Countdown on ABC/ESPN ahead of the Knicks’ game against the Warriors, Charania reported that Jalen Brunson is not expected to return to the lineup from his injury until late March or early April. That would put the Knicks right near the start of the playoffs. The Knicks have eight games in April until the postseason.</p><p>The Knicks are currently 42-23 and in third place in the Eastern Conference standings. They are 5-5 in their last ten games, and hold a five game lead over the Milwaukee Bucks who are in fourth place in the standings.</p><p>The Knicks lost Brunson during overtime of the Lakers game when he took a hard fall after drawing a foul at the basket. He stayed in the game to shoot his free-throws before heading to the locker room. He had 39 points, four rebounds and ten assists before exiting.</p><p>This season, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/knicks-news-jalen-brunson-dishes-humble-mindset-ahead-second-all-star-game">Brunson was selected to his second consecutive career All-Star appearance</a>. This is his third season with the Knicks after signing as a free agent ahead of the 2022-23 season.</p><p>This year, Brunson has appeared in 61 games for the Knicks, at a little over 35 minutes per game. With Brunson now officially out for the contest against one of the best guards in the game, Stephen Curry, and his very interesting Warriors in a post-Jimmy Butler trade world, all eyes will be on McBride once more to see if he can further stack his resume down the stretch.</p><p>Since coming over from the Dallas Mavericks in one of the most eyebrow-raising moves of the last NBA decade – which is, unfortunately, becoming a common occurrence for the Mavs fans at this point – Brunson has appeared in 206 regular season games for the Knicks, missing just 26 games over his first two seasons with the team. While some wear and tear is to be expected from a smaller guard, especially for a guard who plays as physically as Brunson, he’s held up quite well all things considered, what with Tom Thibodeau already having played the guard 433 more minutes and counting than his Mavericks run despite appearing in 71 fewer regular season games.</p><p>When will Brunson return to the court for the Knicks? Frankly, it’s hard to say, as every ankle injury is different, and the return time changes too. With that being said, his not playing vs. the Warriors wouldn’t be news if he wasn’t close to a return, so who knows, maybe the Knicks will have their All-Star guard back a few weeks before the playoffs, when the team will need his hard-nosed style of play and leadership most of all.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

But in the meantime, the Knicks appear to be in good hands, relatively speaking, as backup guard Miles “Deuce” McBride looks capable of keeping the team afloat.</p><h2>How did the Knicks land McBride?</h2><p>McBride was the 26th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. He played much of his rookie season with the Westchester Knicks, and many thought he was merely a defensive stopper. But slowly but surely, he developed a well-rounded game.</p><p>New York lucked out in the timing of the long-term deal to which they agreed with McBride. Both parties agreed to a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/knicks-news-miles-mcbride-3-word-reaction-to-13-million-new-york-extension">three-year, $13 million contract extension</a> immediately after the Knicks traded Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett to the Toronto Raptors. While $13 million is a great haul for most anyone, it became clear shortly after the agreement was reached that McBride was probably worth considerably more.</p><p>The Knicks and McBride find themselves in a similar situation to that which they were in with Quickley. McBride might be worthy of a larger role on a different team. And if given such an opportunity, who knows how he might flourish. But the Knicks probably can’t consolidate talent again in the way they did when trading for OG Anunoby. Thus, McBride is probably stuck in his current role—not a bad thing for the Knicks, as his shot-making and tenacity are incredibly valuable to a team with limited reliable role players.</p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Knicks-guard-Miles-McBride-2-controls-the-ball.jpg"><figcaption>© Brad Penner-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><h2><b>How have the Knicks fared so far with McBride? </b></h2><p>McBride has started the past two games for the Knicks. They are 1-1 in those games, losing by 10 to the Los Angeles Clippers and winning by 29 against the Sacramento Kings. McBride played fine in only his second start of the season against the Clippers, scoring seven points and dishing out six assists. But he had one heck of a night against the Kings. In the Knicks’ blowout win, McBride tallied 21 points, seven assists, three rebounds, and two steals. And his shooting stroke was on point, as he connected on four of his five 3-point attempts.</p><p>The type of game McBride put up against the Kings isn’t terribly uncommon for McBride when starting. Despite starting only 14 games last season, McBride stepped up consistently. He averaged 17.9 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.2 rebounds, and he secured a respectable 46-41-88  shooting split in those contests.</p><p>McBride has grown into a confident player capable of coming off the bench with a hot hand, regardless of how many minutes he receives. He’s a pesky and physical defender, and he possesses a much improved—and dare we say natural—shooting stroke. Further, he is stronger than most players his size, capable of elevating on a dime, and possesses a seemingly endless amount of endurance. In other words, he’s pretty valuable to New York’s playoff aspirations.</p><h2><b>How far can the Knicks ride McBride?</b></h2><p>McBride is an incredibly capable player. One day, he might even grow into a Sixth-Man of the Year candidate. He is, however, a far cry from Brunson.</p><p>But McBride can almost certainly keep New York above water for the time being. And considering that five of their next six opponents are the Miami Heat post-Jimmy Butler trade, San Antonio Spurs without Victor Wembanyama,  Charlotte Hornets, Washington Wizards, and Dallas Mavericks sans-Luka Doncic, they should be fine for the next week or two.</p><p>But eventually, the Knicks will face playoff teams again. Hopefully by then, Brunson. But if not, McBride could find himself in a situation to once again prove himself to doubters around the league. Only this time, he could catapult himself onto a short list of guys who opposing teams feel they can’t live without come the 2025 offseason. And as recent NBA events have shown, there’s a right price for every player.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

However, they are 24th in opponents’ field goal percentage, allowing teams to shoot 47.3% from the floor. The two had big games for their respective teams, but the Lakers came out victorious, and after the game, they swapped jerseys with each other. Dallas Mavericks fans have to be in shambles after seeing the video because they once had both Doncic and Brunson but let them go.</p><p>Fans made sure to let the Mavericks <a href="https://x.com/analleline/status/1897905984820986044" rel="noopener">know on social media</a> how poor of a job they’ve done to keep their star players.</p><p>“Former Dallas Mavericks teammates. Dallas FO let Jalen walk, and traded Luka. Unbelievable mismanagement. Anyway, congrats Lakers,” one user wrote on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>“Can’t believe the Mavs drafted both of them in the same year. They must’ve got a haul in return and are now one of the better young teams…wait,” <a href="https://x.com/Chris_DChavez/status/1897975775673880802" rel="noopener">another user wrote</a>.</p><p>“Nico Harrison let Brunson walked btw. Just to add to his list of accomplishments,” a <a href="https://x.com/nelson_m1/status/1897988447870091297" rel="noopener">third user wrote</a>.</p><p>The Mavericks drafted both Doncic and Brunson in the same draft, and though they weren’t the players they are now, it was a solid foundation that the team was building. When it was time for Brunson to get paid, the Mavericks decided to let him walk and signed with the Knicks and has turned into one of the better guards in the league.</p><p>The story of Doncic getting traded is still fresh in everybody’s mind, and as of now, the Mavericks don’t have much to show for the move. In addition to falling 113-109 in overtime to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Knicks saw All-Star point guard Jalen Brunson depart with 1:20 left in the extra period due to a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-jalen-brunson-suffers-painful-injury-in-ot-vs-lakers">severe-looking right ankle sprain.</a></p><p>On Friday evening, before the second night of a back-to-back against the LA Clippers, the Knicks announced <a href="https://x.com/NY_KnicksPR/status/1898161708507840640" rel="noopener">Brunson would miss at least two weeks</a> due to this ankle injury. An update on his status will be provided upon being evaluated again on Friday, March 21.</p><p>Brunson, who drove the ball hard in transition towards Lakers’ Austin Reaves in an attempt to tie the game at 107 in overtime, was fouled and subsequently rolled his right ankle.</p><p>After being on the ground for a few minutes writhing in pain, Brunson was helped up and limped over to the Knicks’ bench during a challenge by the Lakers. With the call standing and Brunson being fouled on the play he got hurt on, the Knicks star limped to the free-throw line and knocked down both attempts to tie the game.</p><p>Without immediately shifting his weight and moving from the free-throw line, Brunson went straight to the locker room after the Knicks intentionally fouled Los Angeles.</p><p><a href="https://x.com/IanBegley/status/1898118358265913598" rel="noopener">X-rays taken of Brunson’s ankle</a> came back negative and he has no broken bones, according to Ian Begley of SNY.</p><p>Further imaging by way of an MRI revealed the extent of Brunson’s injury, which will sideline him for at least the next two weeks. At this time, there is no word on if he will be able to return before the conclusion of the regular season.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-news-josh-hart-hints-jalen-brunson-injury-absence">Josh Hart hinted at Brunson preparing to miss a chunk of time</a> after Thursday’s game, claiming that the team “expects” their leader to “be out for a little bit.” The Knicks’ official injury update on Friday confirmed that Brunson will have his ankle sprain re-evaluated in two weeks.</p><p>With Brunson out, Deuce McBride will be the main beneficiary and likely be elevated to the starting lineup. Aside from suffering their fourth loss in the last seven games, the Knicks lost <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-jalen-brunson-suffers-painful-injury-in-ot-vs-lakers">Jalen Brunson in overtime due to what looked like a painful ankle injury</a>. After the loss in LA, Josh Hart spoke about his teammate’s injury, citing that Brunson will <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/44146328/knicks-say-next-man-jalen-brunson-rolls-ankle" rel="noopener">likely miss time</a>.</p><p>“It’s a bummer of an injury,” Hart said, via the Associated Press. “We expect him to be out for a little bit.”</p><p>While pushing the pace in transition and seeking to tie the game with about 1:24 left on the clock, Brunson severely rolled his right ankle and was on the ground writhing in pain. Mitchell Robinson immediately fouled the Lakers after the inbounds pass, allowing <a href="https://twitter.com/ClutchPoints/status/1897888464668140006" rel="noopener">Brunson to limp off the court</a> and straight to the locker room.</p><p>The Knicks didn’t give any updates on Brunson’s injury status Thursday night.</p><p>New York’s All-Star point guard put together one of his best games of the season in Los Angeles on Thursday night, tallying 39 points and 10 assists. He was the main reason why the Knicks had a chance to win this game in overtime after converting a three-point play with just over 40 seconds left in regulation.</p><p>If Brunson has to miss extended time, which the team and Hart are bracing for, this will be a massive blow to the Knicks’ end-of-season push.</p><p>At 40-22 overall, New York occupies the 3-seed in the Eastern Conference. While they are 3.5 games ahead of the Milwaukee Bucks, the Knicks are in the middle of a tough five-game West Coast road trip.</p><p>Brunson will undoubtedly miss Friday’s game against the LA Clippers, and he could miss the remainder of this road trip against the Sacramento Kings, Portland Trail Blazers, and Golden State Warriors.</p><p>Without Brunson, Deuce McBride would be the one to see his minutes increase and likely be elevated to the starting lineup. Landry Shamet and Cameron Payne would also see their minutes increase off the bench as a result.</p><p>Brunson has only missed one game this season, and he is four games away from reaching the minimum requirement to remain eligible for end-of-season honors such as All-NBA.</p><p>The Knicks will provide further updates on Brunson’s status before Friday night’s game against the Clippers.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-news-fans-abuzz-epic-comeback-vs-heat">Knicks simply don’t know when to quit</a>, as evidenced by the resiliency they showed during their 116-112 overtime win over the Miami Heat on Sunday night that required them to come back from 19 points down.</p><p>In the first half, the Knicks struggled to find a rhythm; they shot 17-47 from the field (36.2 percent) and 6-23 from beyond the arc, which is far from a recipe for success. But in the second half, New York <a href="https://twitter.com/KnicksMSGN/status/1896378715577446746" rel="noopener">came alive</a>, thanks in large part to Jalen Brunson. Brunson scored 20 of his 31 points in the second half, willing his team back into the game and then hitting the three in overtime that gave the Knicks a lead that they would no longer relinquish.</p><p>“It doesn’t matter what the score is. I mean, we’re gonna keep fighting no matter what. I don’t really care what clicks. That’s what we’re gonna do,” Brunson said in his postgame interview, via Knicks on MSG. “We’re capable as a team, and Thibs knows that. He just had to remind us. Now, the Knicks, despite moving to 40-20 on the year with their win over the Heat, barely missed out on this distinction, as they lost their 20th game of the season before they won their 40th.</p><p>While this is not an exact science, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-news-new-yorks-extremely-concerning-stat-vs-top-teams-in-the-nba">Knicks will be facing an uphill climb</a> in their quest to win a title. He has words and will travel, just not on the court.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Memphis Grizzlies</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>In a heartbreaking turn of events, Taylor Jenkins found himself shouldering the blame after a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/fans-erupt-after-og-anunobys-game-winner-punctuates-wild-knicks-grizzlies-finish">last-second Memphis Grizzlies loss to the visiting New York Knicks.</a> Despite a valiant effort from Ja Morant, Jalen Brunson now holds the season’s bragging rights having swept both meetings. The Big Apple got to see a blowout (143-106) but the FedEx Forum was in a fingernail biting frenzy until the final seconds. Unfortunately, Jenkins couldn’t help but replay a critical decision in his mind, one that may have <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/memphis-grizzlies/grizzlies-news-ja-morant-jaren-jackson-jr-geared-4-team-fight-claim-top-2-spot-western-conference-standings-nba-playoffs">cost the Grizzlies (38-21) a much-needed victory </a>against a top-tier Eastern Conference opponent.</p><p>Jalen Brunson hit a floater to tie the game at 108 with exactly 2:00 on the clock and dial up the intensity in this All-Star duel. In fact, only Ja Morant and Brunson made buckets until OG Anunoby’s Brunson-assisted corner-three pointer with 5.1 seconds left. It was a crushing way to lose considering the now third-placed Grizzlies were up by two (113-111) with 14.1 seconds remaining following Morant’s successful and-1 opportunity.</p><p>However, Jenkins told Vince Williams Jr. to <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-8i9MvpHcw" rel="noopener">shade a bit further away</a> from OG Anunoby on the last play to help stop Brunson’s inevitable drive.</p><p>“I’m going to be beating myself up on that one,” Jenkins admitted.” I made a call, (the Knicks) made a play…We’ve been playing in a lot of tight ball games.”</p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Ja-Morant-Taylor-Jenkins-Grizzlies-makes-a-call.jpg"><figcaption>Petre Thomas-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Though Jenkins did not have the same smile as after the overtime win over the Phoenix Suns (28-32), the coaching staff was driving home the same message following a home loss to the Knicks (39-20).</p><p>“Proud of the fight in this group,” Jenkins asserted. “That was a very high level basketball game and it will make us better.”</p><p>The Grizzlies had a great opportunity to close out the win but a failure to create a cushion when the Knicks went cold in the third quarter was crucial. Jalen Brunson was able to get a breather before taking over in the biggest moments.
