His life consists of sports, music and Seinfeld.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Houston Rockets</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>When the Houston Rockets traded for Kevin Durant, most of the discussion centered around <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/houston-rockets/rockets-news-jalen-green-emotional-goodbye-houston-trade">moving on from former No. 2 pick Jalen Green</a>. But as the Phoenix Suns return to Houston for the first time since that deal, it’s clear that the bigger loss for Houston wasn’t Green: it was Dillon Brooks.</p><p>Brooks is averaging 22.3 points per game this season, which is nearly 10 more than his average during his two years in Houston.</p><p>“Thanks to Jordan Ott for trusting me to play with the ball in my hands. He trusts me to make plays,” Brooks explained before Friday’s game.</p><p>But it isn’t the scoring that Houston is missing. They have plenty of offense, as they currently boast the league’s <a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_2026.html" rel="noopener">second-best offensive rating</a>. And for as good as Brooks has been, you’d still much rather have Durant, especially in the playoffs.</p><p>But where Brooks’ absence has been felt by Houston has been on the defensive end, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/houston-rockets/rockets-defense-regressing-year-3-ime-udoka">which has regressed this year without him</a>. Under Ime Udoka, the Rockets built their identity on defense, culminating in the <a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/HOU/2025.html" rel="noopener">fourth-best defensive rating</a> during last year’s 52-win season.</p><p>Brooks embodied the tough-nosed, physical, defensive culture that Udoka instilled, as he helped guide the franchise from 22 wins to championship contention in under three years.</p><p>“I think we have the same-liked minds,” Brooks said of Udoka. “We both pride ourselves on defense. No-b.s. mentality. And I think we instilled that from both sides – on the coaching staff and from the players. I got along with Ime; he’s one of my good friends, and I can’t wait to go against him.”</p><p>Brooks acknowledged that Houston wanted him to step in as a leader for a young roster.</p><p>“Yeah. They knew I did that for Memphis, so they wanted the same thing. Grow the young guys in the right direction, and I feel like I did a good job,” he explained.</p><p>“It was instilling the little things… defensive coverages, discipline, and sacrifices you have to make, you just see stuff,” Brooks added.</p><p>Beyond leadership and defense, Brooks also brought a bulldog nature to the roster that seems to be lacking without him. Part of that shift is natural, as the Rockets went from scrappy underdog to one of the favorites in the Western Conference. But <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/phoenix-suns/suns-news-dillon-brooks-refuses-to-bow-down-to-lebron-james-in-emphatic-statement">Brooks’ willingness to mix it up with the opposition</a> added an attitude and presence that no one else on the current roster replicates.</p><p>In fact, when these two teams faced off in Phoenix last week, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/phoenix-suns/suns-news-dillon-brooks-message-rockets-coach-ime-udoka">Brooks even got into it with Udoka</a>. When asked about the run-in, Brooks said they’ll have “another one today if he doesn’t look away.”</p><p>That edge is tough to replace. The Rockets have more than filled the gaps that Green left behind. But what Brooks brought – leadership, defense, and an unapologetic toughness – remains unmatched. And after helping to turn around Houston, he’s now doing the same in his first season with the Suns.</p><p>When asked what sort of reaction he expects from the Rockets fans tonight, Brooks didn’t blink: “Whatever. He recently covered the Phoenix Mercury for The Next Hoops and PHNX Sports.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>A team-building exercise unlike any other: the Phoenix Suns took their off day to celebrate Jalen Green’s high school jersey retirement ceremony in Fresno, California.</p><p>He played at San Joaquin Memorial in Fresno for the first three years of his high school career. There, he developed into one of the most prolific athletes and players who would be a part of the 2021 NBA draft class.</p><p>Since <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/phoenix-suns/suns-news-jalen-green-season-debut-sparks-phoenix-culture-shift">Green has made an immediate splash with the Suns</a>, he’s unfortunately dealt with a lingering hamstring. Still, that hasn’t kept him from showing the same passion and enthusiasm.</p><p>However, those <a href="https://x.com/DuaneRankin/status/1991718868025512029?s=20" rel="noopener">two feelings were reciprocated</a> by his teammates and head coach Jordan Ott on the team’s off day.</p><p>“Really cool. So thankful to fit it into our schedule with the no-practice day. It was easy to get in and out, and the guys showed up for him,” Ott said after Thursday’s practice via AZCentral’s Duane Rankin.</p><p>“It was really cool to see the high school and all his teammates come back, along with his family and friends. It was cool to be a part of.”</p><h2><b>Suns’ camaraderie continues to be highlighted with Jalen Green’s trip</b></h2><p>Throughout the season, the consistent theme was how prepared the Suns would be. Safe to say that they weren’t messing around. The guys were in the gym working and building that team chemistry.</p><p>Even Devin Booker talked about taking the team up to Sedona in a few weeks before media day. Now, the team went to support Green in his hometown.</p><p>Little things like this continue to trickle into how the chemistry continues to grow. Guys don’t have to commit themselves to things like this, but they <a href="https://x.com/YoungNBA/status/1991635255888069117?s=20" rel="noopener">chose to do so</a>, as Mark Williams explained.</p><p>“We just wanted to support our brother. A moment like that is super special,” Williams said via Shane Young of Suns.com</p><p>That alone shows how tight-knit the group is, especially with only 15 games in. Not to mention, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/phoenix-suns/suns-news-jalen-green-to-miss-numerous-weeks-hamstring-injury">Green has only played in two games</a>, but his presence is felt every night.</p><p>It likely won’t be the last time the team does something of this caliber for a player. On Monday evening, the Suns got 42 points <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/phoenix-suns/suns-news-what-grayson-allen-said-mvp-chants-historic-3-point-explosion">from Grayson Allen</a> in a blowout win over the New Orleans Pelicans to get themselves over the .500 mark on the season.</p><p>Out of the lineup for that game was Jalen Green, who missed the first few games of the season, took the court one time, and has since been out of the lineup with a hamstring injury. On Tuesday, ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania <a href="https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/1988358588436234470?s=20" rel="noopener">dropped the latest update</a> on Green’s status moving forward, and it isn’t one that will be encouraging for Suns fans.</p><p>“Phoenix Suns guard Jalen Green will be re-evaluated in four-to-six weeks with a right hamstring strain, sources tell ESPN,” reported Charania on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>Green of course was the key piece that the Suns got back over the offseason in their trade of Kevin Durant for the Houston Rockets. While Green had an abysmal showing in last year’s playoffs against the Golden State Warriors, he is still a talented young guard with theoretical room to grow and a great teammate to learn from in Suns All-Star Devin Booker.</p><p>Losing him for the next month-plus will certainly be a blow for a Phoenix team that is looking to raise eyebrows in the Western Conference this year.</p><p>Up next for the Suns is a road game against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

When the newest member of the Phoenix Suns played alongside Devin Booker, it felt like a match made in heaven.</p><p>The latter is a savant of getting to his spot and allowing the game to come to him. For Green, he’s a true downhill threat and puts immediate pressure on the basket with his athleticism. Not to mention, the elite shot-making has been essential.</p><p>After all, Green posted 29 points in 23 minutes in his first game with Phoenix. One game later and seven minutes into it, he re-injured his hamstring on a drive and hobbled back to the locker room.</p><p>Booker understands the familiarity of hamstring injuries, but knows that his backcourt mate <a href="https://www.azcentral.com/story/sports/nba/suns/2025/11/09/phoenix-suns-support-jalen-green-after-reaggravating-injury/87187065007/?gnt-cfr=1&amp;gca-cat=p&amp;gca-uir=true&amp;gca-epti=z114742p000950c000950d00----v114742b0073xxd117365&amp;gca-ft=177&amp;gca-ds=sophi" rel="noopener">will be just fine</a>.</p><p>“It’s tough. I’ve definitely been through it. We’re going to rally around him,” Booker said following Saturday’s 114-103 win over the Los Angeles Clippers via AZCentral’s Duane Rankin.</p><h2><b>Other Suns feel Jalen Green’s injury setback</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Jalen-Green.jpg"><figcaption>© Patrick Breen/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Considering how hard he worked and the frustration involved in the recovery process, the hamstring injury feels like another dagger. Still, Green continues to remain optimistic, which caught Royce O’Neale’s attention.</p><p>“Checked in on him. He’s in good spirits,” O’Neale said via Rankin. “It sucks to see him go down again with the hamstring, but we’re going to hold it down. Make sure he gets it right.”</p><p>Someone who thought the young guard was “right” health-wise would be head coach Jordan Ott. Although he’s not the physical trainer, but the head coach, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/phoenix-suns/suns-news-jordan-ott-doubling-down-speedy-jalen-green-recovery">Ott remained optimistic for Green to return before the Suns’ season opener</a> when he was first injured.</p><p>Fast forward to another setback, and that optimism might vanish. For the first-year coach, he empathizes with Green, but knows what his team <a href="https://x.com/DuaneRankin/status/1987425917392638216?s=20" rel="noopener">has to do collectively</a>.</p><p>“You just feel for him. He worked so hard to get back,” Ott said via Rankin. “This team will have no excuses. We lace them up, go out and play.”</p><p>It’s unknown how long Green will be out for. Regardless of the injury, Phoenix has won its last three games and continues to show the growing chemistry.</p><p>For however long he’s out for, it’ll already be one of the biggest hypothetical scenarios of the season whether or not the Suns continue their sustained success or not.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He grabbed his right hamstring during the second quarter against the Los Angeles Clippers.</p><p>He went for a drive, got by James Harden, and made a pass to Ryan Dunn, who was wide open in the corner. Immediately after, he grabbed the same hamstring and was hobbling towards the bench.</p><p>Within the next possession, Green was being helped to the locker room. It’s unfortunate news for the Suns, who missed Green for the season opener and the next seven games.</p><p>In only one game, he showed immediate chemistry with teammate Devin Booker. he presented a true downhill threat and someone who can create his own shot. In that game, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/phoenix-suns/suns-news-jalen-green-season-debut-sparks-phoenix-culture-shift">Green posted 29 points in 23 minutes</a> and revealed what all the hype was.</p><h2><b>Jalen Green’s injury is gut-wrenching for the Suns</b></h2><p>Considering this was his second game back from injury, it’s telling that he wasn’t fully recovered. However, Suns head coach Jordan Ott has been cautious about Green’s return because it was a soft tissue injury.</p><p>It wasn’t as easy to diagnose and to give the proper treatment for. At times, some thought that Ott was being overly cautious with his young guard.</p><p>Still, the team has shown promise without Green. For instance, Booker is having an All-NBA season and has been extremely effective as a scorer and playmaker.</p><p>Guys like Royce O’Neale and Grayson Allen are having career years. Young players like Ryan Dunn and Collin Gillespie are rising to the occasion.</p><p>Losing Green sucks, but it could be a next-man-up mentality for a team <a href="https://burncitysports.com/2025/06/22/phoenix-suns-jalengreen-brooks-trade/" rel="noopener">loaded with people looking for any opportunity</a>.</p><p>For the former Houston Rockets guard, it’ll be going back to square one.
