Getting Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Cole Anthony, and four first-rounders plus a swap option from the Orlando Magic for Desmond Bane was too good of an offer to pass up. There are plenty of reasons to believe EVP/GM Zach Kleiman is not done shaking up the roster as well. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/cleveland-cavaliers/cavs-news-cleveland-resist-trading-darius-garland-jarrett-allen">Leveraging Jarrett Allen away from the Cleveland Cavaliers</a> might be the low-key move that elevates the Ja Morant-Jaren Jackson Jr. pairing.</p><p>Jarrett Allen’s 13.5 points, 9.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.8 blocks/steals per game in 2024-25 make him a <a href="https://www.nba.com/stats/player/1628386?SeasonType=Regular+Season" rel="noopener">near-perfect complement to the current core</a>. An elite rim protector and lob threat for Morant, Allen would also help Jackson Jr. significantly in the rebounding department. Portland pushes the reset button, flipping the spare parts at the trade deadline. The Grizzlies should be asking about the price immediately. Allen’s relatively cheap rim protection (0.9 BPG) would allow Jackson Jr. to roam as a weak-side defender. Allen’s roll gravity (71.2% RimFGA) would create lanes for Morant, who thrives with vertical threats. Edey could then dominate second units, preserving his development path without starter pressure.</p><p>Against bigger teams (e.g., Minnesota, Denver), Allen and Edey could share minutes as a twin-towers duo, leveraging Allen’s mobility to cover Edey’s defensive limitations. Edey played 21.5 minutes per game as a rookie. Allen’s arrival would reduce his workload but not his role. The 7-foot-4 phenom could still play 18-22 minutes as a high-impact reserve, mirroring Cleveland’s successful Mobley-Allen pairing.</p><p>Jarrett Allen’s rebounding and defense patch fatal flaws, while Cleveland’s financial desperation creates a rare buy-low opportunity. With a strategic fit that aligns with their core, the Grizzlies must call the Cavaliers to explore a trade. This move could solidify their frontcourt, boost their playoff prospects, and signal their intent to compete at the highest level next season. With rumors swirling around Allen, one name has emerged as a potential trade return; Los Angeles Lakers forward Dorian Finney-Smith.</p><p>Finney-Smith has been one of the best 3-and-D wings in the NBA over the last few seasons. His skillset saw him bounce around the league from the Dallas Mavericks to the Brooklyn Nets and finally to the Lakers. With Los Angeles and general manager Rob Pelinka looking to add a center to play alongside Luka Doncic, an Allen for Finney-Smith swap could be a win-win deal.</p><p>According to Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz, Finney-Smith <a href="https://bleacherreport.com/articles/25198303-3-dream-trade-targets-every-nba-team-summer" rel="noopener">could fit the lineup well</a>, especially if an Allen trade happens.</p><p>“Finney-Smith would be a superb 3-and-D starting power forward if Jarrett Allen is traded and the Cavaliers move Mobley to center,” Swartz said.</p><p>Allen has been a key piece of the Cavaliers’ success over the past few seasons. The former All-Star has played well on both sides of the court with Cleveland. However, his playoff numbers did not take a jump, leaving fans wanting more out him.</p><p>Finney-Smith, on the other hand, is a star in his role. As a catch-and-shoot role player for Los Angeles, the wing shot close to 40% from deep while playing great perimeter defense.</p><p>Any trade involving one of the Cavaliers’ four All-Stars will make headlines this summer. Cleveland has already accomplished the difficult task of drafting and developing an All-Star-caliber guard. Trading him for a collection of question marks would compromise that progress.</p><p>The same logic applies to Allen. His fit next to Evan Mobley may not be seamless, but Allen is still one of the most dependable rim protectors and rebounders in the NBA. Proposals featuring the likes of Rui Hachimura or Austin Reaves simply do not offer enough of an upgrade, if any, to justify moving a player who has anchored Cleveland’s defense for multiple seasons.</p><p>What makes the situation even more complex is the Cavs’ proximity to contention. Team president Koby Altman has acknowledged the organization’s high expectations, referencing a “wide-open championship window” that remains intact.</p><p>The Cavs, he noted, are past the rebuild phase and into the territory of consistent playoff appearances and deep postseason aspirations. Garland and Allen are part of that framework. They are not perfect, but they are reliable, talented, and already integrated into the team’s culture and chemistry.</p><p>Altman has emphasized that staying the course should not be mistaken for complacency. Last summer, despite external pressure following a first-round loss to the Knicks, the Cavs resisted the urge to overreact. That decision proved wise, resulting in a 48-win season and their first playoff series win since 2018. Altman sees no reason to abandon that approach now.</p><h2><b>Cleveland’s internal growth could be the way forward</b></h2><p>Internal growth remains the most logical path forward, particularly under the constraints of the new collective bargaining agreement. With limited trade options and little financial wiggle room, Cleveland’s best shot at elevating its ceiling may come from within. That means Garland must get stronger and more durable. Mobley needs to continue developing offensively. The roster needs shooting, spacing, and health—none of which require sacrificing core talent to address.</p><p>The Cavs are not a broken team. They are a competitive team that needs tweaks, not a teardown. Mitchell remains the star centerpiece. Mobley is still ascending. Garland and Allen, for all their limitations, remain valuable contributors under manageable contracts. That kind of continuity matters, especially when so many of their Eastern Conference rivals face uncertainty of their own.</p><p>The temptation to make a splash is real. But not every offseason demands a blockbuster. Sometimes the boldest move is restraint. The Cavs have every reason to believe in their core because the pieces are already in place. Now it’s about refining, not reinventing. The loss brought an abrupt end to what had otherwise been a historic season <a href="https://cavsnation.com/news/cavs-rumors-donovan-mitchell-loves-cleveland">for the Cavs</a>, who are still looking to make their first Conference Finals appearance in the post-LeBron James era.</p><p>The loss to the Pacers opened up unexpected questions about whether the Cavs would look to make any big moves this offseason, and recently, Cavs insider Chris Fedor took to the Wine and Gold podcast to <a href="https://www.cleveland.com/cavs/2025/05/clevelands-championship-conundrum-why-the-cavs-must-consider-trading-all-star-point-guard-darius-garland.html" rel="noopener">shed some light</a> on Cleveland’s mindset.</p><p>“I think the two untouchables are Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley,” Fedor said, per Cleveland.com. “I have been getting the sense that the Cavs would be more willing to entertain and at least consider possibilities for Jarrett Allen and Darius Garland than they have in the past.”</p><p>Both Garland and Allen underperformed in the Cavs’ playoff loss to the Pacers, although it should be noted that Garland was clearly not operating at 100%, having rushed back from a toe injury that caused him to miss two games in the previous round as well as the first two games of the Pacers series.</p><h2><b>A big offseason for the Cavs</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.cavsnation.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Cavs-guard-Donovan-Mitchell-45-walks-off-the-court.jpg"></figure><p>The Cavs likely did not expect this to be a highly consequential offseason for the future direction of the franchise after dominating the regular season this year, but that’s exactly the position they now find themselves in as they watch the Eastern Conference Finals from home.</p><p>As Fedor mentioned, it’s highly unlikely that the Cavs would consider parting with either Mitchell or Mobley, each of whom played at a star level this year. However, it’s worth wondering if the redundancy between Mitchell and Garland or Mobley and Allen could be traded in for some better depth on the wing, which is the one true weak point on the Cavs’ roster currently.</p><p>In any case, the Cavs will have some big decisions to make over the next few months.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

It’s the second consecutive year in which Cleveland exits the postseason in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. With the team receiving plenty of flak, it appears one former champion is tired of seeing how Jarrett Allen plays in the playoffs.</p><p>During the latest episode of the “Road Trippin'” podcast hosted by Richard Jefferson, Channing Frye, Kendrick Perkins, and Allie Clifton, Frye blasted Allen <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQSlECVQpPU" rel="noopener">for his lack of toughness</a> in the playoffs. The former Cavaliers champ claims that the 27-year-old center just doesn’t show up when it matters most.</p><p>“It’s really been bothering me… Jarrett Allen is not a playoff big man. That is my statement. He is not physically dominant. He is not physically aggressive… At some point, as the main dude – the biggest dude on your team – you’ve gotta f*** somebody up once in a while.”</p><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><p>Despite the criticism, Frye does credit Allen for being a good center in the regular season. It appears his main issue with the Cavaliers center is that he shies away from contact and physicality in the playoffs. Frye even used some examples from playoff performances from the 2022-23 season to critique Jarrett Allen’s play.</p><p>Through nine games played in the postseason, the one-time All-Star averaged 13.4 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.4 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game. In comparison to his regular season numbers, Allen was right on par with his average points (13.5 in the regular season). However, his rebounds dropped in the playoffs, as he averaged 9.7 before the start of the postseason.</p><p>He did improve his efficiency in steals, though, after averaging just 0.9 steals per game in the regular season, and his blocks remained the exact same. In terms of statistical play, the Cavaliers’ center essentially brought the same efficiency to the table as he had throughout the entire season.</p><p>Regardless, Channing Frye just simply isn’t a fan of how Allen seems to back away from the physicality of the NBA Playoffs. With the offseason around the corner, the Cavaliers could make some serious changes to the lineup.
