In the NBA, one of those moments is seeing <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/los-angeles-lakers/lakers-news-lebron-james-adds-fuel-nba-draft-lottery-rigging-conspiracy-theories">LeBron James get drafted to the Cleveland Cavaliers</a>, and then coming back later in his career to win them their first championship. Recently, Jaylen Brown was asked about <a href="https://www.hoopshype.com/story/sports/nba/rumors/2025/09/11/given-his-hometown-ties-to-georgia-radio-host-darian/86088531007/" rel="noopener">playing for his hometown team</a>, the Atlanta Hawks.</p><p>“I would love to see you play for the hometown,” radio personality Big Tigger said to Brown on V-103.</p><p>“I feel you. I think my grandma would too,” Brown said.</p><p>Brown noted that his grandmother had talked to him about potentially playing for the Hawks in the future.</p><p>“Yeah, but you never know. We’ll see,” Brown said.</p><p>It may be fun to see Brown play for the Hawks one day, but he is still in the middle of a big contract with the Boston Celtics, and it’s hard to see a team trading for a number that large. At the same time, he doesn’t have to particularly play for the Hawks while he’s in his prime, it could be when he’s set to get another contract.</p><p>Regardless, Brown is probably not worried about playing for any other team right now than the Celtics, and he’ll be the leader on the team this season with <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/boston-celtics/celtics-news-jayson-tatum-encouraging-update-tedious-achilles-injury-rehab">Jayson Tatum still recovering from his Achilles injury</a>.</p><h2><b>Jaylen Brown will have to lead Celtics this season</b></h2><p>After Tatum went down with the Achilles injury, the future of the Celtics was put in the spotlight, and they made some big moves throughout the offseason. The traded Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday, two key players that they had brought in to help them win the championship two seasons ago. Those moves were made for financial reasons and to avoid the second apron.</p><p>Now, with Tatum possibly out for the entire upcoming season, it will be up to Brown and Derrick White to lead the the Celtics. They were able to acquire Anfernee Simons in the Holiday trade, but it still seems like they’re open to moving him again. If he stays with the Celtics, Simons could be another key scorer for the team.</p><p>This won’t be the same dominant team that they’ve been for the past few years, and it will be interesting to see where they stack up in the Eastern Conference with what they currently have.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Jayson Tatum has also done his fair share of traveling, albeit <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/boston-celtics/celtics-news-jayson-tatum-encouraging-update-tedious-achilles-injury-rehab">while rehabbing from a serious Achilles injury</a> for the first time in his career.</p><p>One of Tatum’s most recent trips brought him to California, where he attended the wedding of three-time All-Star Bradley Beal. It won’t be a normal trip to “The A” for Boston as Tatum will be sidelined and Brown will serve as the primary scoring option for the Green Team.</p><p>And for the first time in years, the Hawks will enter a season with better prospects than the Celtics. They had a productive offseason, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/boston-celtics/kristaps-porzingis-trade-grade-hawks-celtics-deal">trading for ex-Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis</a> and landing two-way guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker in free agency.</p><p>Conversely, Boston’s offseason was prolific as well, yet there was more subtraction than addition. To shed salary, the C’s dealt Porzingis and former starting guard Jrue Holiday. Plus, they let backup center Luke Kornet walk and may have <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-stephen-curry-al-horford-fit-reaction">the same happen with veteran big man Al Horford</a>.</p><p>No matter where Horford ends up, the 2025-26 regular season will be a new experience for the Jays. Tatum has never missed a significant stretch of games in the NBA, and Brown has never been the sole go-to guy on the Celtics. The publication reported that the elder Brown “was arrested for attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a youth football coach in a dispute over a parking spot.”</p><p>The incident <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2025/08/21/jaylen-brown-dad-arrested-attempted-murder-parking-spot-dispute/?adid=social-tw&amp;adid=social-tws" rel="noopener">reportedly went down</a> at the All American Park in Las Vegas when the victim was stabbed in the stomach, after which the suspect fled the scene but was later tracked down and taken into custody.</p><p>The victim was taken into surgery at a nearby hospital and his condition is currently unknown.</p><p>TMZ also reported that “Jaylen doesn’t have a close relationship with his father and was unaware of the arrest or incident.”</p><p>Marselles Brown is a former professional boxer.</p><p>The news comes amid what has been a turbulent offseason for Brown <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/boston-celtics/boston-celtics-2025-26-season-predictions">and the Celtics</a>, who parted ways with several key pieces, including 2024 champions Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday, in an attempt to get under the dreaded second apron.</p><p>Jaylen Brown will likely be called upon to do a lot of the heavy lifting in the 2025 season with his co-star Jayson Tatum sidelined with an Achilles injury he suffered in the playoffs vs the New York Knicks, one that will likely keep him out for the entirety of the 2025-26 season.</p><p>Brown has established himself as one of the elite wings in the NBA today and won both the Eastern Conference Finals and NBA Finals MVP awards during the Celtics’ title run a year ago.</p><p>He’s also become known for his work in the Boston community, helping to revitalize underserved areas and raise awareness about various issues.</p><p>The Celtics’ 2025-26 season is set to begin on October 22 at home against the divisional rival Philadelphia 76ers at 7:30 PM ET. It all comes as <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/boston-celtics/celtics-news-executive-optimistic-jayson-tatum-recovery-update">the Celtics prepare</a> for a year in which Jayson Tatum will be sidelined due to the Achilles injury he suffered vs the New York Knicks in last season’s playoffs.</p><p>While the Celtics still have two elite wings in Derrick White and Jaylen Brown, recently, team legend Bob Cousy questioned whether that <a href="https://www.hoopshype.com/story/sports/nba/rumors/2025/08/09/celtics-legend-bob-cousy-jaylen-brown-certainly-wont-bring-them-to-the-promised-land/85595261007/" rel="noopener">would be enough</a> to make Boston truly competitive without Tatum in the lineup.</p><p>“In my judgment, Jaylen is not quite at the superstar level that Tatum is at,” Cousy said, per the Boston Globe, via Hoopshype. ”Can he carry the load by himself? But that’s the thing. Brown didn’t say these were the greatest of all time. He said they were his favorites. That’s personal. That’s generational. He was born in 1996, so he saw peak Kobe and Iverson, not Jordan in his prime.</p><p>It’s also not like Brown has ever disrespected Jordan’s legacy. If asked to name the top five players ever, there’s no doubt MJ makes that cut. This was about inspiration, influence, and style. You can see Brown’s own game carries shades of T-Mac’s smooth scoring and Kobe’s footwork.</p><h2><b>Cousy’s comments and the Celtics question</b></h2><p>While Brown was showing love to his basketball idols, Celtics legend Bob Cousy stirred the pot in a different way. The Hall of Famer recently told The Boston Globe he doesn’t see Jaylen as someone who can carry Boston on his own.</p><p>“In my judgment, Jaylen is not quite at the superstar level that Tatum is at,” Cousy said. “Can he carry the load by himself? I see a major rebuilding effort here.”</p><p>That’s a tough assessment, especially after a year where Boston looked primed to make a repeat run. Cousy’s comments seem to echo a recurring theme around Brown, which is that no matter how much he achieves, he’s still fighting for respect. Outside of Derrick White, he’s the only starter left from the starting lineup that won it all last year. I’ve been to some very dark places,” Brown said. “But I feel like those dark places have allowed my light to shine.”</p><p>For Brown, having the mindset to keep going without giving up or feeling desparate is key.</p><p>“It’s OK. Never let anything break your spirit,” Brown said. “Everybody’s gonna deal with adversity at some point—even plants struggle to get sunlight.”</p><p>This isn’t the first time Brown’s had to switch roles. After his rookie season, Jaylen came off the bench for veteran Gordon Hayward. He’s also had to often defend the opposing team’s best player as he ascended to the starting lineup and blossomed into an All-Star who earned Finals MVP after the Celtics captured a title in five games against the Dallas Mavericks.</p><p>“I’ve had to change roles, styles. I’ve had to do things that other players of my talent just haven’t had to do,” Brown added. “I’ve always been a team guy. I feel like sometimes that gets taken for granted.”</p><p>Heading into 2025-26, there’s no question as to who the Celtics’ go-to option will be. It’s Brown. Amid offers leading up to the 2025 NBA Draft, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/boston-celtics/sources-raptors-offer-celtics-no-9-pick-derrick-white-trade">Boston’s stance on its two cornerstone players remained firm</a>. Both <a href="https://www.clnsmedia.com/fischer-raptors-offered-celtics-9th-pick-for-derrick-white-or-jrue-holiday/" rel="noopener">players were off the table</a>.</p><p>League sources confirmed with Siegel that the phone “rang nonstop” for both players in the days leading up to the draft, particularly after Jayson Tatum’s Achilles injury was expected to sideline him for most, if not all, of the 2025-26 season. Toronto aggressively pursued White, even offering the No. 9 overall pick and attempting to include RJ Barrett’s contract. But the Celtics, wary of luxury tax penalties and cap inflexibility, declined.</p><p>Golden State also made inquiries. Still, as Fischer stated, “Nothing ever got really close.”</p><p>As for Brown, who is entering the second year of a $300 million extension, the Utah Jazz, led by Danny and Austin Ainge, made a strong push, reportedly involving the No. 5 pick and expiring contracts. There’s strong optimism around Payton Pritchard leveling up, with Fischer suggesting an All-Star nod isn’t out of the question. And while trade talks continue around veterans like Simons and Georges Niang, both Brown and White appear locked in for the foreseeable future.</p><p>This isn’t a team preparing to tank. In the Porzingis deal, which sent the Latvian big man to the Atlanta Hawks, the Celtics got back wing shooter Georges Niang.</p><p>As it happens, Niang has quite a history with the Celtics, most notably during the 2023 NBA playoffs, when he was a member of the Philadelphia 76ers. During the second round series between those two teams, Niang drew the fury of the Celtics’ fanbase when he appeared to grab Celtics star Jaylen Brown’s knee on the sidelines during Game 7, which led to a brief skirmish between the two sides.</p><p>Celtics fans were quick to recall that memory when the team announced the trade for Niang–the reception wasn’t exactly warm. However, Brown and Niang appear to have squashed their beef, if <a href="https://x.com/celtics/status/1945314717569896927" rel="noopener">a recent photo</a> posted by the Celtics of the two at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas is any indication.</p><p>https://x.com/celtics/status/1945314717569896927</p><p>Still, fans in the comment section on X, formerly Twitter, weren’t thrilled.</p><p>“Still don’t forgive him, get him off the team,” wrote one angry fan.</p><p>However, other fans were more understanding.</p><p>“Ok if JB forgives him my beef is over,” wrote another.</p><h2><b>A vastly different Celtics squad</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Porzingis.jpg"><figcaption>Dale Zanine-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>There’s a real possibility that Georges Niang will start for the Celtics in 2025-26, at least to begin the year.</p><p>The only two guaranteed starters for Boston at this point are Brown and Derrick White. Jayson Tatum is expected to miss the entirety of the season with the torn Achilles injury he suffered in the second round this year against the New York Knicks. With no Jayson Tatum and a new-look roster, can Brown lead the Celtics back to the postseason?</p><p>The Cal Berkeley product has been one of the league’s biggest improvements since being drafted in 2016. The star forward is now entering Year 9, and is coming off a knee surgery earlier this offseason. Brown dealt with a partially torn meniscus last year but was able to play through it, for the most part.</p><p><a href="https://x.com/BobbyKrivitsky/status/1942620349473964218" rel="noopener">Brad Stevens spoke on Tuesday</a> about the situation. Stevens mentions that Brown worked out earlier in the day, doing shooting drills.</p><p>“We have no reason to believe that Jaylen won’t be all cleared and ready to go fairly shortly.”</p><p>This is great news for the Celtics. Boston needs him healthy. He was not last season and it was visual. His game didn’t model the performances he put on the season prior, when he won NBA Finals MVP against the Dallas Mavericks. A healthy Brown is one of the top two-way players in the NBA and gives the Celtics a leader on the floor.</p><p>Brown will team up with Derrick White and Alfernee Simons. The Celtics traded away <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/boston-celtics/celtics-news-jrue-holiday-anfernee-simons-trade-blazers-catch">Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers</a>, and then sent <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/boston-celtics/celtics-news-kristaps-porzingis-reacts-to-bostons-touching-farewell-message">Kristaps Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks</a> the following day. With Jayson Tatum likely out this entire 2025-26 season, Brown will have to be the guy on both ends. He won’t need to lead the charge on offense every night, as the Celtics still contain some offensive weapons (Payton Pritchard, Sam Hauser).</p><p>However, without Tatum, Holiday, Porzingis, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/boston-celtics/celtics-news-brad-stevens-makes-al-horford-admission-amid-warriors-buzz">Al Horford</a>, and Luke Kornet, Brown will be tasked with being one of the primary defenders in the frontcourt. White is a phenomenal defender as well. But the Celtics are losing one of the league’s best defenders (Tatum), who doesn’t get enough credit for what he does on that side of the floor.</p><p>The 2025-26 Boston Celtics will be Brown’s team. Celtics legend Paul Pierce has made his stance <a href="https://hoopshype.com/rumor/3731326/" rel="noopener">abundantly clear.</a></p><p>“You’re in the business of making money. Yeah, you want to win, but you want a cheaper version to try to win. And I get what they’re trying to do—stay competitive. But I still think their window is open. I hope they don’t trade JB though. As long as you’ve got Tatum and Brown, you can figure out the other pieces,” Pierce said on ‘Podcast P with Paul George.’</p><p>“They’re still relatively young. I mean, JB will be 29 coming up, and Tatum 27 next year. So they still got a long way. And the way y’all playing—look at KD, he’s 37 and still playing at a high level. Steph, 37. LeBron, 40. Even yourself, in your 30s, y’all still played at a high level. So they’re in their prime. The moves came with the team’s ownership and front office attempting to move under the second apron. Additionally, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/celtics-news-kristaps-porzingis-luke-kornet-securing-spurs-bag">Luke Kornet inked a four-year deal with the San Antonio Spurs</a> despite Boston’s interest in bringing him back.</p><p>The crux of the Celtics’ 2024 championship run was fueled by the play of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. While Tatum will likely miss the entirety of next season due to an Achilles injury, Brown has cemented himself as an All-Star talent in his own right.</p><p>The former NBA Finals MVP averaged 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists across 63 games last season. This much we know. However, would Stevens consider moving Brown?</p><p>Pierce cautioned Stevens <a href="https://twitter.com/ClutchPoints/status/1939748732620480827" rel="noopener">not to do so</a>, considering that the Celtics had traded Jrue Holiday and Porzingis, splitting the All-NBA tandem while they were in their prime years and under contract, could be too much for the franchise to bear, per Podcast P with Paul George.</p><p>“You don’t like it because you looked at a team when they won last year, you’re like, man, this team could be a dynasty because they were all relatively young,” Pierce said. “They had already gone through their growing pains. You start to understand the business of it now. Because of this new ownership, I still think their window was open. I hope they don’t trade JB, though.
