As of now, it looks like Gilgeous-Alexander can run away with the award after Jokic has missed the past few games for the Denver Nuggets, but the battle is not over until the season ends. Though Gilgeous-Alexander may be the best player this season, Jeff Teague thinks that Jayson Tatum <a href="https://youtu.be/EZdWDxjRGRA?t=192" rel="noopener">should be ranked higher</a> than him.</p><p>“It’s no biased either, but Joker is number one for me,” Teague said on the Club 520 Podcast. “Then I’ll take Jayson Tatum, then I’ll take Luka, then I’ll take Shai.”</p><p>There have been some narratives floating around this season that Tatum doesn’t get the recognition that he deserves despite all that he’s accomplished in his career, which has some truth to it. Every year, Tatum puts up big numbers for the Celtics, and he gets them into a deep playoff run. That isn’t to take away from anything that Gilgeous-Alexander has done, but he doesn’t have the accolades that Tatum has.</p><p>Luka Doncic just got to the NBA Finals for the first time in his career last season, but he’s been putting up crazy numbers since he got into the league. Some people may be upset with Teague’s list, but it makes sense when you look throughout these player’s careers instead of one season.</p><h2><b>Is Jayson Tatum better than Shai Gilgeous-Alexander?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Jayson-Tatum_cf557f.jpg"><figcaption>Alonzo Adams-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The narrative of Tatum being one of the most disrespected stars in the league may be true because many people don’t talk about him the way they should. At just 26 years old, Tatum has one of the most loaded resumes, and he’s only going to get better. This season, he’s averaging 27.1 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game, and the Celtics are second in the Eastern Conference.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/thunder-news-shai-gilgeous-alexander-mvp-statement-nikola-jokic-nuggets">Gilgeous-Alexander is having an amazing season</a> and is putting up big numbers every single night. There’s no doubt that he should be the frontrunner for the MVP, and there’s no doubt that he’s been better than Tatum this season. As a whole, or even over just the past few years, Tatum has proved to be one of the top players in the NBA, as he’s consistently been in Eastern Conference Finals and two NBA Finals.</p><p>Anybody could make an argument for either player on who’s the best because they’re both playing at a high level, but Tatum has been doing it a bit longer.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The Razorbacks’ head coach is receiving some newfound appreciation from doubters after leading the program back to the Sweet 16.</p><p>In the clash of the Hall of Famers, 10-seeded <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/ncaa-basketball/arkansas-basketball-news-fans-bonkers-razorbacks-upset-st-johns-march-madness">Arkansas notched an impressive 75-66</a> victory against second-seeded St. John’s in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Calipari is now into the second weekend for the first time since 2019.</p><p>This result surprised the former NBA point guard, and he <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=129&amp;v=0CZVcTtVEdk&amp;feature=youtu.be" rel="noopener">discussed his doubts</a> about Calipari over the years on the Club 520 Podcast.</p><p>“I was more impressed with Calipari, though, because I never looked at Coach Cal as a great basketball coach. I always thought he was a great recruiter and got hella talent. If you look back, you get Marcus Camby, unbelievable talent when he was at UMass.</p><p>“Then you look at his Memphis run, and you get Derrick Rose, Tyreke Evans, and Dajuan Wagner. You can get talent. I never looked at him as a great coach; he never puts people in position to win. Look at all these teams full of talent he had, and he won only one time.</p><p>“If you watch his X’s and O’s, I ain’t going to lie; if I had a whiteboard, I could write the plays that they did every single time down. They swing, swing, DJ Wagner, goes to the middle of the paint, he gets a pin down, comes back up and goes to a ball screen. They did it every single time down.</p><p>“I used to watch Marquis and them. It will be a tall task for this group to take down the Red Raiders.</p><p>However, it’s also fair to say that this group is athletic, experienced, and playing with house money. He joined ClutchPoints in 2023.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>On Wednesday evening, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-news-mikal-bridges-trail-blazers-home-crazy-3-pointer-buzzer">New York Knicks picked up a big road win</a> against the Portland Trail Blazers thanks to a game-winning <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-news-josh-hart-reacts-mikal-bridges-game-winner-minutes-drama">buzzer beater by Mikal Bridges.</a> The win pushed the Knicks’ record to 2-1 since losing Jalen Brunson to a foot injury and allowed them to hold serve in the Eastern Conference standings.</p><p>Recently, Bridges raised eyebrows with his comments about head coach Tom Thibodeau’s demanding usage rate for his starters, which Thibodeau revealed at a recent press conference, per The Athletic.</p><p>One person pushing back <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=1772&amp;v=W3MP5cG_jWY&amp;feature=youtu.be" rel="noopener">against that narrative</a> is former point guard Jeff Teague, who played under Thibodeau with the Minnesota Timberwolves.</p><p>“Don’t nobody want to come out of the game, they don’t want to come out of the game. It’s cap, I was talking to PJ Tucker yesterday. People do not want to come out of the game. I used to see him run to the bench and be mad when they subbed him out,” said Teague, per the Club 520 Podcast. “You played 43 minutes.”</p><p>Teague then spoke on his own experiences with the dilemma.</p><p>“Like when I was in my prime, I did not want to come out of the game. I used to be s—ty. Like sit on the bench for 8 minutes straight, and you watch Kyle Lowry play 38 minutes per game. I’m just saying you do not want to come out of the game. After the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-jimmy-butler-heat-trade">Heat traded away Jimmy Butler</a> and ended that saga, former NBA player Jeff Teague thinks a majority of the problems have to do with Pat Riley.</p><p>The team’s president was the main proponent that forced Butler out of Miami. Teague feels the same way. Even with what the Heat got back in the trade, the former all-star wants to see the team do <a href="https://youtu.be/uB-7-TDRCqk?t=16" rel="noopener">a complete teardown</a>.</p><p>“It’s time for the Heat to blow it up,” Teague said on the Club 520 Podcast. “It’s time for the whole organization to just start over. Let Pat Riley just go ahead and retire man somewhere. You’re 88, let’s just start it over.</p><p>“Let Erik Spoelstra run the team from the top to the bottom. Be the coach and the general manager. Just let him do it, just start over bro.”</p><p>Teague thinks after trading Butler, this would be the time for Riley to retire. He also mentioned that the Heat should let Spoelestra take over Riley’s role in the front office as well as continue his coaching duties.</p><p>The Heat are under .500 at 29-35 sitting in 9th place in the East. They would participate in the play-in tournament, but that isn’t what the organization is accustomed to.</p><h2><b>Jeff Teague thinks the Heat’s future isn’t going anywhere</b></h2><p>While the Heat has some formidable pieces around them, the mediocrity isn’t appealing to Teague. After all, Butler was the key guy that helped them reach the NBA Finals, twice (2020, 2023).</p><p>Now that Butler is gone, who do they have to fall back on? Tyler Herro <a href="https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nba/miami-heat/article299464459.html" rel="noopener">made his first All-Star appearance</a> this season and Bam Adebayo is a three-time All-Star (2020, 2023, 2024).</p><p>Having two All-Star-level players should mean they could contend. Despite that though, Teague thinks they need to just rebuild and start over.</p><p>“They’re going to be like this every year, they don’t have anybody who moves the needle,” Teague said. “Tyler Herro had a good year.</p><p>“Bam, he does the same s**t every year. He’s a good defensive player, they don’t have anybody that moves the needle. Jimmy was their guy, they let Jimmy go. Wig going to always get 20 but he isn’t going to move the needle.”</p><p>While <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/miami-heat/heat-news-bam-adebayo-tyler-herros-stern-warning-after-another-collapse">Adebayo and Herro have proven to be leaders on the Heat</a>, Teague says that they aren’t doing enough to impact winning. It’s only a small sample size without Butler, but time will tell if a rebuild is on the way.</p><p>Spoelstra has never undergone a legitimate rebuild, so this could be a first for many in the organization if it happens.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Which caused former NBA player Jeff Teague to chime in with his thoughts about the situation.</p><p>Teague provided his stance in a segment of the Club 520 Podcast on Monday. He says Budenholzer needs players to <a href="https://youtu.be/d5AsSJ_Fz9I?t=183" rel="noopener">buy into his system more so than he just needs superstars</a>, suggesting he will be better off without Durant.</p><p>“If they trade KD, and it’s not KD’s fault, but they’re going to have more continuity. It’s going to a lot easier. I told you Coach Bud does a lot better with less. He’s going to find some glue guys, some guys that he can build around,” Teague said, who played for the head coach in both Atlanta and Milwaukee.</p><p>“Make D Book the focal point and it’s going to be a lot smoother for them. With all that talent over there, it’s just too much for him on his plate. He’s used to that San Antonio s—t where everybody is buying in, it ain’t the same.”</p><h2><b>Time is running out for Kevin Durant, Suns</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Kevin-Durant.jpg"><figcaption>Joe Camporeale-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The old way of bringing in a Big 3 of superstars isn’t working anymore when teams like the Thunder and Cavs are building around talented younger stars and depth. This is <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/thunder-news-stephen-a-smith-floats-kevin-durant-reunion-amid-suns-chaos">certainly the case for Kevin Durant’s Suns,</a> which explains why Jeff Teague believes in Mike Budenholzer doing better without the star forward.</p><p>Since the NBA All-Star break, the Suns have gone 2-5 in their last seven games. They are averaging 118 points on 49.9% shooting from the field, including 39.4% from beyond the arc. However, their defense has given up 123 points on shooting splits of 47.4% overall and 40.1% from downtown.</p><p>Phoenix currently has a 28-33 record on the season, outside the playoff picture at the 11th spot. They are four games behind the Dallas Mavericks and Sacramento Kings.</p><p>Following Sunday’s loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Suns will prepare for their next matchup.
