This year is no different, as the Lakers are constantly tied to several players on the trade block. Their counterparts, the Los Angeles Clippers, aren’t always as aggressive when it comes to making trades, yet they will also be on the hunt for upgrades before the Feb. 6 deadline. With talents like Jerami Grant and Collin Sexton being made available, perhaps there is a chance both the Lakers and Clippers will be buyers on the trade market.</p><p>Before we flipped our calendars to 2025, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-dorian-finney-smith-shares-eye-opening-take-nets-la-difference">Lakers had already made a move to try and increase their chances of winning</a> this season by moving D’Angelo Russell, Maxwell Lewis, and three second-round picks for Dorian Finney-Smith and Shake Milton from the Brooklyn Nets. While Finney-Smith presents clear upside as a two-way wing in LA, there are still some holes the Lakers are going to look to fill, especially in their frontcourt next to Anthony Davis.</p><p>Over in Inglewood, California, Steve Ballmer and the Clippers await the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/clippers-news-kawhi-leonard-takes-next-step-in-return-from-knee-injury">return of superstar forward Kawhi Leonard</a>. Although he has not played at all this season as he continues to rehab from ongoing knee issues, Leonard is expected to make his season debut for the Clippers at some point in January. Without Kawhi, the Clippers have been one of the biggest surprises of the 2024-25 season to this point, as they are 19-15 and emerging as one of the better defensive teams in the league.</p><p>In addition to searching the market for potential big men to have alongside starting center Ivica Zubac, the Clippers have also been exploring opportunities to add another scoring weapon by utilizing the contracts of PJ Tucker and Bones Hyland. These two players add up to over $15 million in salaries for the Clippers, which creates a sizeable market of players for LA to pursue before the trade deadline.</p><p>The Lakers and Clippers are going to be looking to buy talent ahead of the trade deadline, and here are some hypothetical trade scenarios involving Sexton, Grant, and others that could make sense for both organizations.</p><h2><b>Clippers secure Collin Sexton</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Collin-Sexton.jpg"><figcaption>Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p><i>Los Angeles Clippers receive: G Collin Sexton, G Patty Mills</i></p><p><i>Utah Jazz receive: F PJ Tucker, C Cody Zeller, F Kobe Brown, MEM 2026 2nd round pick (protected 31-42, via ATL), LAC 2030 2nd round pick (full rights, UTA currently owns rights to swap), LAC 2031 2nd round pick</i></p><p><i>Atlanta Hawks receive: G Bones Hyland</i></p><p>The Utah Jazz are going to be open for business ahead of the trade deadline, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/will-heat-move-jimmy-butler-latest-nba-trade-deadline-intel-siegels-scoop">making both Jordan Clarkson and Collin Sexton available</a> in trade talks. Sexton, who the Jazz acquired from the Cleveland Cavaliers when trading away Donovan Mitchell, has seen his role in Utah change over the last three seasons.</p><p>At times, the Jazz have utilized Sexton off the bench as a spark of scoring. Other times, he’s been in the starting lineup and proven to be one of the team’s main offensive weapons alongside Lauri Markkanen. If the Jazz are to seriously consider trading Sexton this season, they won’t do so at a discount.</p><p>That is the main issue with the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/latest-jimmy-butler-zach-lavine-nba-trade-rumors-siegels-scoop">Clippers’ potential pursuit of Sexton</a>, as LA doesn’t have many assets to offer up. The Clippers can’t trade a first-round pick until 2030, and they wouldn’t want to do so in this scenario. All that is left from the Clippers in terms of draft assets is two second-round picks in 2030 and 2031.</p><p>These two second-round picks, along with one from the Atlanta Hawks by way of bringing in Hyland, may be the only path to the Clippers landing Sexton if Utah is willing to do a trade without there being a first-round pick involved. The other important asset going to the Jazz in this scenario is former first-round pick Kobe Brown, who still hasn’t cracked Tyronn Lue’s rotations in his second season with the Clippers.</p><p>While Tucker and Cody Zeller are nothing more than players that Utah would likely reach a buyout with, this does create a path to immediate cap relief and extra draft capital. As far as the Hawks involvement in this trade goes, Atlanta is in the market for extra backcourt help on their bench. Hyland is in the final year of his contract and would be worth a swing by the Hawks for a low-end second-round pick.</p><p>Unless they are willing to include a first-round pick for Sexton, this is the best offer the Clippers can present to Utah.</p><h2><b>Jerami Grant to Lakers?</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Jerami-Grant-after-three-pointer.jpg"><figcaption>Gary A. In today’s league, you can never have too many two-way wings, which is why Grant is still worth discussing for Los Angeles.</p><p>Grant is in his third season with Portland and has seen his usage rate drop drastically. He is no longer the go-to scoring option for the Blazers, which has led to some speculation among league circles that the team will explore the market for his value. Still, there haven’t been any real indications suggesting that the Blazers will look to move Grant at the trade deadline.</p><p>The veteran has been a valuable asset for the Trail Blazers during their rebuild, and they did sacrifice a first-round pick in 2025 to originally trade for him from the Detroit Pistons. With the market for veteran players set at multiple second-round picks right now, perhaps there is a path to the Lakers pulling off a move for Grant without sacrificing first-round assets.</p><p>However, a steep price of Rui Hachimura, Gabe Vincent, and the remainder of their second-round assets following the Finney-Smith trade would be included in a package for Grant and Duop Reath. At the same time, Grant’s proven two-way abilities can’t be overlooked, and the addition of Reath gives the Lakers that extra stretch big man they have been wanting for depth behind Davis.</p><p>Losing Vincent and Jalen Hood-Schifino, who the Lakers declined the fourth-year team option of prior to the 2024-25 season, wouldn’t be a drastic hit to the Lakers depth chart now that Max Christie has emerged in the backcourt.</p><p>As long as it doesn’t cost them a first-round pick, swapping Hachimura for Grant gives the Lakers a slightly better chance to contend in the West.</p><h2><b>Lakers finally land Nick Richards</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Hornets-Nick-Richards-2.jpg"><figcaption>Sam Sharpe-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p><i>Los Angeles Lakers receive: C Nick Richards, G Seth Curry</i></p><p><i>Charlotte Hornets receive: G Jalen Hood-Schifino, F/C Christian Wood, LAC 2025 2nd round pick (via LAL), LAL 2026 1st round pick (swap, more favorable to CHA)</i></p><p>Charlotte Hornets center <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sources-lakers-involved-offseason-trade-pursuited-coveted-hornets-center">Nick Richards was a player the Lakers expressed interest in</a> during the offseason, sources told ClutchPoints. Between his rebounding abilities and being a lob threat off the bench, Richards checked off the boxes for the type of big man Los Angeles wanted to add behind Davis.</p><p>Ahead of the trade deadline, Richards has heard his name in some rumors. The Hornets are in no shape to turn their season around at this point, which is why players like Richards, Caleb Martin, and Vasilije Micic could be dealt for the right price.</p><p>What would that price be regarding the Lakers?</p><p>Well, Rob Pelinka and the Lakers’ front office don’t have many second-round picks to offer up after trading for Dorian Finney-Smith, but they could attach one in 2025 to this deal with Charlotte. The key to this trade is a 2026 first-round pick swap, which isn’t all that crazy for the Lakers to sacrifice since they should be in a better position than the Hornets at this point anyways.</p><p>By moving on from Richards and Seth Curry, the Hornets would gain a second-round pick, potentially the option to swap firsts in 2026 if they can improve with LaMelo Ball and Brandon Ingram, plus a look at a recent first-round pick in Hood-Schifino. Would this be enough value for the Hornets?</p><h2><b>Robert Williams joins Clippers in 4-team trade</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Blazers-Robert-Williams-III.jpg"><figcaption>Soobum Im-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p><i>Los Angeles Clippers receive: C Robert Williams III</i></p><p><i>Portland Trail Blazers receive: C Marvin Bagley III, F David Roddy, LAC 2030 1st round pick (Top-10 protected)</i></p><p><i>Washington Wizards receive: F PJ Tucker, C Cody Zeller, MEM 2025 2nd round pick (protected 31-42, via ATL), LAC 2030 2nd round pick (UTA owns rights to swap)</i></p><p><i>Atlanta Hawks receive: G Bones Hyland</i></p><p>No matter what trade options the Clippers explore between now and the trade deadline, all of these scenarios will involve Tucker and Hyland being on the move with some sort of minimal draft compensation that LA still has.</p><p>Robert Williams III is arguably the best big man to hear his name in trade rumors, yet the Blazers, like Grant, aren’t actively shopping him. Teams that have approached the Trail Blazers to inquire about Williams haven’t necessarily been met with open arms, especially since Portland values the big man’s skillset. After all, he was a player that the organization really wanted from the Boston Celtics when they traded Jrue Holiday.</p><p>Although Deandre Ayton and rookie Donovan Clingan exist in Portland’s frontcourt, Williams still commands high value. That is where things get complicated for the Clippers, as they don’t have virtually any high-value assets to offer up. To make up for this lack of value, the Clippers would undoubtedly need to include a first-round pick going to the Blazers if they want any shot at landing Williams, who is the change-of-pace big man this franchise wants behind Zubac.</p><p>This acquisition of Williams could potentially be accomplished if LA got on the phone with the Hawks and Washington Wizards as well. The Blazers wouldn’t want Tucker or Hyland, which is where the two Eastern Conference teams come in handy. While the Wizards would trade Marvin Bagley III and take on the contracts of Tucker and Zeller, they would be rewarded with two second-round picks — one from LA and one from Atlanta.</p><p>Then, the Hawks would be rewarded with Hyland, a guard that can supply them with more scoring depth on their bench, at the expense of Zeller’s and Roddy’s contracts and a low-end second-round pick.</p><p>From the Blazers’ perspective, Bagley brings versatility at the power forward and center positions in the final year of his contract. The only problem is that Bagley suffered a sprained knee recently and could wind up missing a large chunk of time. This injury could wind up throwing off the whole balance of this trade scenario.</p><p>The Clippers, Wizards, and Hawks all get what they need in this trade, but it is hard to imagine that the Blazers would be willing to give up Williams for a future first-round pick and two salary fillers. If anything, the Clippers would likely need to remove any protections from this 2030 first-round pick.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He now writes about sports instead as a form of therapy.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Editorials</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>In 2022, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-3-key-blazers-drawing-trade-interest">Portland Trail Blazers acquired Jerami Grant</a> in one last-ditch effort to surround Damian Lillard with as much talent as possible. In the end, it was all for naught, as the Blazers finished with a 33-49 record amid another lost season. Trade rumors surrounding Lillard were only growing louder, but the Blazers still decided to put forth one last try to convince their franchise cornerstone to stay — keeping Grant on a five-year, $160 million contract.</p><p>In the end, of course, Lillard still decided to request a trade, and the Blazers granted (pun unintended) this wish of his — leaving the team stuck with <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/jerami-grant-grading-blazers-5-year-160-million-contract-in-2023-nba-free-agency">Grant making an average of $32 million per season</a> until the 2027-28 campaign. But now, that may be one of the worst decisions the Blazers have ever made.</p><p>The 2024-25 season has not gone swimmingly at all for Grant; he has had a few good games here and there, but to say that his overall play can be considered good would be a lie. At the time of writing,s the 30-year-old forward is averaging 16.1 points per game — his worst mark since becoming a full-time starter in 2020 — on a true shooting percentage of 53.6, his worst mark since his sophomore campaign.</p><p>The Blazers, for better of for worse, appear stuck with Grant. They are still on the hook for about <a href="https://www.spotrac.com/nba/player/_/id/15391/jerami-grant" rel="noopener">$132 million on his contract</a>, and not too many teams would want to stomach that kind of money for someone who is struggling. Now, the hope for any contending team that will be acquiring Grant is for him to settle into a lower role in the offensive pecking order and become more of a defensive specialist who can hit shots — the same role he had for the last winning team that he played for, the 2019-20 Denver Nuggets.</p><p>With that in mind, here are some teams that could benefit from a trade with the Blazers for Grant.</p><h2><b>3. Indiana Pacers</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Tyrese-Haliburton-and-Pascal-Siakam-celebrate-win-against-Celtics.jpg"><figcaption>© Grace Smith/USA Today Network via Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Much like Jerami Grant’s 2024-25 season, this current campaign has <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/pacers-news-tyrese-haliburton-broken-record-latest-pitiful-performance">not gone according to plan</a> for the reigning Eastern Conference finalist Pacers. Despite having the services of Pascal Siakam from the jump, the Pacers have not strung together a consistent run of solid play yet this season, as they have a 12-15 record at the time of writing.</p><p>But the Pacers can thank their lucky stars that they reside in the East and that their slow start to the season hasn’t yet cost them much in terms of playoff positioning. They sit in eighth place in the standings, which puts them right in the thick of the hunt for an outright playoff berth.</p><p>While the Pacers already pushed their chips to the middle of the table when they traded for Siakam, perhaps they can look at Grant as someone who can bolster their wing depth further. The loss of Aaron Nesmith hasn’t been talked about as much, but it’s been clear that Indiana has been missing his 3-and-D contributions on the wing.</p><p>The problem, however, is that the Pacers won’t want to lose both Nesmith and Obi Toppin in a trade for Grant. However, that is the only feasible way for them to match salaries with the Blazers. They entered their 123-98 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night already down five players in Deandre Ayton, Donovan Clingan, Scoot Henderson, Kris Murray, and Matisse Thybulle, but things somehow found a way to go from bad to worse.</p><p>The Blazers not only lost the battle but also lost the war of attrition on Monday night as they saw two starters of theirs, Jerami Grant and Robert Williams III, go down with injuries on the night. Grant sustained a blow to his left knee and <a href="https://x.com/trailblazers/status/1861244126257115538" rel="noopener">did not return</a> after exiting at the 9:58 mark of the third quarter, while Williams, who has been been pressed into starting duties with injuries to Ayton and Clingan, was not able to suit up for Portland after the halftime intermission as he <a href="https://x.com/trailblazers/status/1861245673934299278" rel="noopener">underwent concussion protocol</a>.</p><p>Both Grant and Williams have considerable injury histories, so it’s no surprise to see the Blazers err on the side of caution especially when the Grizzlies began to run away with the game in the middle of the third quarter. As the Blazers began their rebuild, the 2023-24 season went as expected — a 21-61 record and a last-place finish in the Western Conference standings.</p><p>Ahead of the 2024-25 season, the Blazers once again seem destined to miss the playoffs, yet what their roster will ultimately look like remains a mystery due to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-lakers-linked-to-jonas-valanciunas-jerami-grant">trade rumors</a> surrounding Simons and veteran forward Jerami Grant.</p><p>The Blazers’ only concern right now is finding ways to get their young core as much experience as possible. Swinging a trade involving one of these players may make the most sense to open up minutes and accumulate future assets. While recently appearing on Sactown Sports 1140 in Sacramento, Aaron Fentress of The Oregonian discussed Portland’s options involving Simons and Grant, pointing out that one of the two will <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uaforS0n88" rel="noopener">likely be moved</a>.</p><p>“I would be surprised if Jerami (Grant) or Anfernee Simons, that one of the two is not moved,” Fentress said on Monday. “I was told that’s definitely the goal, that one of the two would probably be gone before training camp. Both being gone might be different. They obviously have time. They can wait until the trade deadline and see if someone else will offer more.”</p><p>The main reason why the Blazers may be active on the trade market as sellers ahead of training camp is because Simons and Grant don’t appear to be their future. Henderson, Shaedon Sharpe, and rookie Donovan Clingan are going to be the young talents Portland moves forward with, making Simons and Grant disposable.</p><h2><b>Anfernee Simons, Jerami Grant trade value</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Jerami-Grant.jpg"><figcaption>Jaime Valdez-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Both Simons and Grant could contribute to various playoff-contending teams right away, which is why they hold some value on the open market. However, at this point in the offseason, the Blazers may have a hard time finding legitimate trade partners due to salary restraints, and many organizations are already finalizing their rosters for the start of the 2024-25 season.</p><p>Between the two players, Grant is certainly the player many teams would have interest in due to his two-way play. Over the last two seasons in Portland, Grant has averaged 20.7 points and 4.1 rebounds per game while shooting 40.2 percent from three-point range.</p><p>The problem with pursuing a trade for Grant is that he is under contract through the 2027-28 season and still has over $132 million left on his contract. Very few teams in the league would have the ability to not only put together a trade package with at least $30 million in salary to equate Grant’s current deal, but many teams are struggling with remaining below the first and second tax aprons.</p><p>In Simons’ case, he has just two more years left on his contract and is owed a total that is slightly above $50 million. At 25 years old, Simons has proven that he can be a lead guard both as a scorer from the perimeter and a facilitator. Over the last two seasons, the Blazers guard has averaged 21.7 points and 4.7 assists per game while shooting 38.1 percent from three-point range.</p><p>The idea of building around Henderson and Sharpe is the main reason why Portland could look to move off of Simons while he holds a fair amount of value. Still, the idea of beginning the season with both players may be more appealing to the Blazers, especially considering that a team may be willing to pay more for either Simons or Grant ahead of the trade deadline.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Maybe, he said it was an air of sarcasm in his voice, and McMahon joked along about the prospects of the Lakers finally breaking their free agency draught with a big swing, noting that seemingly every good player in the NBA has been linked to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-news-jalen-rose-says-clippers-will-never-surpass-lakers-as-most-popular-la-team">Los Angeles’ A-Time</a> at one point or another, but why would Lowe poke the proverbial bear if there isn’t any fire behind it?</p><p>At this point, the Lakers are really looking to bounce back from a down free agency, with fans openly linking the team to darn near everyone from Paul George to Tyus Jones at one point or another throughout the offseason. LeBron James and Anthony Davis aren’t going anywhere barring a crazy change in developments but it will take more than them to make another deep playoff run.</p><p>The Lakers have plenty of options to go to this offseason. Two veterans <a href="https://sports.yahoo.com/with-new-coach-jj-redick-at-the-helm-the-lakers-draft-strategy-beginning-to-take-shape-232824674.html" rel="noopener">on the team’s radar</a>, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo! Sports are Jonas Valanciunas and Jerami Grant. The former is an unrestricted free agent while the latter is under contract for at least three more seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers.</p><h2><b>Lakers considering additions of Jonas Valanciunas, Jerami Grant</b></h2><p>Fischer writes the following: “There have since been several centers linked to the Lakers at No. 17 in Wednesday’s NBA Draft, most recently Baylor freshman Yves Missi as well as Indiana sophomore Ke’lel Ware. Pelicans center Jonas Valančiūnas, who’s approaching unrestricted free agency, has been another big man often mentioned by NBA figures as a potential Lakers frontcourt addition this summer.”</p><p>The Lakers adding Missi or Ware would give them an infusion of youth, size and athleticism. Adding Valanciunas, whose tenure in New Orleans <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-pelicans-phase-jonas-valanciunas-out-future-plans">appears to be over</a>, would give them a different type of size. It would also be another instance of a Pelicans center heading to the Lakers.</p><p>The 32-year-old Valanciunas played in all 82 games last season but his numbers took a hit. He averaged 12.2 points and 8.8 rebounds per game while shooting 55.9 percent from the field. Having JV would give the Lakers a solid scoring option down low and a tough rebounder. But it would limit their ability to play with a lot of pace or space or defensive versatility. If Redick wants to instill a more methodical style of play, Valanciunas is a solid option to have.</p><p>Fischer writes that Grant is “believed to be another potential addition on the Lakers’ wishlist.” Since the Blazers are rebuilding, it stands to reason that they would be willing to trade him away. The Lakers do have some contracts to couple together and trade, though they may not have enough intriguing young players or draft picks to make Portland want to give up Grant, a player the team values a lot.</p><p>Grant played just 54 games last season, averaging 21.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists per contest. He shot 40.2 percent from deep and can defend multiple positions, making him an intriguing player to put next to James as the other starting forward. Over the past few seasons, he became more of a shot creator, which means he could take some of the pressure off of James or Davis from time to time.</p><p>The Lakers don’t have any time to search through a bunch of options before finding the right mix of guys. Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving will continue to lead the way for the Mavs moving forward, but they could use a bit more help after getting overwhelmed by the Boston Celtics. Could Jerami Grant be a trade option this offseason?</p><p>SNY’s Ian Begley reports Dallas as one of <a href="https://sny.tv/articles/knicks-notes-center-on-the-radar-mitchell-robinson-isaiah-hartenstein" rel="noopener">“several teams”</a> that have “checked in on Grant’s situation in Portland.” Grant just finished up his second season with the Portland Trail Blazers and has four years left on his contract after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/blazers-news-jerami-grant-free-agency-5-year-160-million-contract">signing a five-year, $160 million deal</a> last summer.</p><h2><b>Jerami Grant’s situation with Blazers</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Blazers-Jerami-Grant-guarding-Mavs-Luka-Doncic.jpg"><figcaption>Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Jerami Grant agreed to that long-term deal with the Blazers before Damian Lillard demanded a trade out of Portland. Grant put up solid numbers last season, averaging 21.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists while shooting 45.1% from the field and 40.2% from 3-point range. However, the 30-year-old only played in 54 games and missed the last month of the season.</p><p>The Blazers finished with a 21-61 record, the worst mark in the Western Conference. Unfortunately for them, they wound up with the No. 7 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, falling three spots from their initial No. 4 slot.</p><p>With Portland still in rebuilding mode, general manager Joe Cronin could look to sell Grant at a high price given how much team control is left on his contract. On the flip side, there’s no real rush to trade him because of all that time left on his contract, and the Blazers could look to get back to respectability quickly. Grant can help them do that, so it would likely take a big offer to get a deal done.</p><h2><b>What Mavericks have to offer</b></h2><p>It’s already known that the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-tim-hardaway-jr-floated-as-key-mavericks-trade-asset">Mavericks will look to trade Tim Hardaway Jr.</a> this summer. Hardaway is set to make over $16 million in the final year of his contract in 2024-25, so that provides good salary for matching in a deal. Youngster Josh Green is making over $12 million next season and could be a coveted trade piece in a deal. PJ Washington and Daniel Gafford likely aren’t going anywhere after the roles they played in the NBA Finals run, unless it’s for a legitimate star upgrade, but Maxi Kleber and his $11 million salary is another trade candidate.</p><p>Dallas does have some <a href="https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/draft/future_drafts/detailed" rel="noopener">future draft picks available</a> to trade as well, with 2025 and 2031 first-round picks available to move on the night of the 2024 draft. The Mavericks do already owe first-round picks this year, in 2027 and 2029, and their 2028 and 2030 firsts are owed as swaps. Dallas can swap firsts in 2025, 2026 and 2031. They also have four second-round picks to play with.</p><h2><b>Grant’s fit on the Mavs</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Kyrie-Irving.jpg"><figcaption>© Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>The Mavericks found a lot of success with their new-look roster after the trade deadline, with the arrivals of Washington and Gafford helping jumpstart them. Derrick Jones Jr. found a home in the starting lineup and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mavericks-dallas-re-sign-2024-nba-free-agency">is a priority in free agency</a>.</p><p>While Washington and Jones were pivotal in their starting roles in Dallas this season, Grant would be an upgrade as a two-way threat who can shoot it from deep. Grant would become even more dangerous playing off Doncic and Irving, which would also allow him to expend more energy on the defensive end.</p><p>The Mavs could look to acquire Grant and then bring either Washington or Jones off the bench, assuming they’re both back, which would help their depth. It’s unclear if the Blazers are serious at all about trading Grant, but it’s worth a look for Dallas.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

It was recently discovered that the Piston had a typo in their press release about the move.</p><p>Towards the end of the statement, the statement reads: “His notable trade and free agent acquisitions included Simone Fontecchio and Quentin Grimes at the past season’s trade deadline along with <b>Jeremy Grant</b> (2020 sign-and-trade), Kelly Olynyk (2021) and Cory Joseph (trade with Sacramento).”</p><p>This is of course a <a href="https://x.com/DuncanSmithNBA/status/1797001515036516539" rel="noopener">misspelling of Jerami Grant’s name</a>. While he hasn’t matched the offensive efficiency that he displayed playing next to Damian Lillard last season, Grant’s shooting is a far cry from the inefficient nights Detroit Pistons fans saw from him in the two years prior.</p><p>The Blazers struggled to score points throughout the year, due to challenges with both experience and talent. Having a player like Grant available meant that Portland had someone to give the ball to on the wing that could iso and create a reasonably efficient shot.</p><p>Of course, if you’re the Blazers, having your 30-year-old forward repeatedly iso-ing isn’t necessarily what you’re going for this season. Portland’s biggest goal this year was to develop their young talent and establish some chemistry among the roster. Injuries have been the biggest issue in regard to those goals, but Grant needing his shots, especially late in games, hasn’t helped.</p><h2>Jerami Grant’s future with the Blazers</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Jerami-Grant-hunched-over.jpg"><figcaption>© Jaime Valdez-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>When the Blazers signed Grant to his massive extension last summer, it was done under the assumption that he would be teaming with Lillard for a second straight season. Of course, things didn’t work out that way and Dame ended up being traded to the Milwaukee Bucks after trying to force his way to the Miami Heat.</p><p>With the Blazers looking to go young, many questions were raised over the last several months regarding Grant’s future with the team.</p><p>By all accounts, he likes Portland, and the Blazers are happy with him as well. It wasn’t a surprise to anyone paying close attention that Grant wasn’t moved this trade deadline. With so many young players, a team like Portland needs to have a couple of veterans on the roster to keep things rolling smoothly and help the coach establish good locker room habits.</p><p>But, one year into his deal, it’s more likely that Grant is moved this offseason. While a big argument for keeping Grant this year was the fact that he wasn’t really in anyone’s way, development-wise, the Blazers are likely to take a forward (or two) in the NBA Draft this season.</p><p>Additionally, with the salary cap set to take a massive spike with the new TV deal being negotiated, Grant’s contract will represent a much smaller part of a team’s overall balance sheet. It’s a lot easier for a GM to talk themselves into Grant’s production at 15 percent of the salary cap vs. 20 percent.</p><p>Grant has done well with the Blazers and represented the franchise well in his time here. It certainly wouldn’t be disappointing for him to stay with Portland. However, the team is simply in a position where they need to start to develop some younger guys. Of course, there’s a salary floor, and they have to pay <i>somebody</i>, but expect Grant to be moved either this offseason or the following year as the team makes room for younger players on the roster.</p><p>So far in the 2023-24 NBA season, Jerami Grant has averaged exactly 21 points per game, along with 3.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per night for the Portland Trail Blazers. They entered Saturday’s game with just 16 games on the season against 42 losses.</p><p>The Blazers will be taking a rest on Sunday before playing the Grizzlies again at the same venue Monday night.
