As the Blazers began their rebuild, the 2023-24 season went as expected — a 21-61 record and a last-place finish in the Western Conference standings.</p><p>Ahead of the 2024-25 season, the Blazers once again seem destined to miss the playoffs, yet what their roster will ultimately look like remains a mystery due to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-lakers-linked-to-jonas-valanciunas-jerami-grant">trade rumors</a> surrounding Simons and veteran forward Jerami Grant.</p><p>The Blazers’ only concern right now is finding ways to get their young core as much experience as possible. Swinging a trade involving one of these players may make the most sense to open up minutes and accumulate future assets. While recently appearing on Sactown Sports 1140 in Sacramento, Aaron Fentress of The Oregonian discussed Portland’s options involving Simons and Grant, pointing out that one of the two will <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uaforS0n88" rel="noopener">likely be moved</a>.</p><p>“I would be surprised if Jerami (Grant) or Anfernee Simons, that one of the two is not moved,” Fentress said on Monday. “I was told that’s definitely the goal, that one of the two would probably be gone before training camp. Both being gone might be different. They obviously have time. They can wait until the trade deadline and see if someone else will offer more.”</p><p>The main reason why the Blazers may be active on the trade market as sellers ahead of training camp is because Simons and Grant don’t appear to be their future. Henderson, Shaedon Sharpe, and rookie Donovan Clingan are going to be the young talents Portland moves forward with, making Simons and Grant disposable.</p><h2><b>Anfernee Simons, Jerami Grant trade value</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Jerami-Grant.jpg"><figcaption>Jaime Valdez-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Both Simons and Grant could contribute to various playoff-contending teams right away, which is why they hold some value on the open market. However, at this point in the offseason, the Blazers may have a hard time finding legitimate trade partners due to salary restraints, and many organizations are already finalizing their rosters for the start of the 2024-25 season.</p><p>Between the two players, Grant is certainly the player many teams would have interest in due to his two-way play. Over the last two seasons in Portland, Grant has averaged 20.7 points and 4.1 rebounds per game while shooting 40.2 percent from three-point range.</p><p>The problem with pursuing a trade for Grant is that he is under contract through the 2027-28 season and still has over $132 million left on his contract. Very few teams in the league would have the ability to not only put together a trade package with at least $30 million in salary to equate Grant’s current deal, but many teams are struggling with remaining below the first and second tax aprons.</p><p>In Simons’ case, he has just two more years left on his contract and is owed a total that is slightly above $50 million. At 25 years old, Simons has proven that he can be a lead guard both as a scorer from the perimeter and a facilitator. Over the last two seasons, the Blazers guard has averaged 21.7 points and 4.7 assists per game while shooting 38.1 percent from three-point range.</p><p>The idea of building around Henderson and Sharpe is the main reason why Portland could look to move off of Simons while he holds a fair amount of value. Still, the idea of beginning the season with both players may be more appealing to the Blazers, especially considering that a team may be willing to pay more for either Simons or Grant ahead of the trade deadline.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Well, you've come to the right place.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Mini-Editorials</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>When it comes to NBA content on ESPN, it’s only a matter of time before even the most veteran reporters have to comment on the Los Angeles Lakers.</p><p>Call it a byproduct of being the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-news-research-claims-lakers-warriors-have-most-annoying-fans">most popular team in the NBA</a>, call it a byproduct of the team being so gosh darn perplexing in their week-to-week activities, but when in a conversation about the less-heralded teams in the association, Zach Lowe still had to touch on the Lakers as part of a segment discussing the Western Conference with Tim McMahon, and in less than a minute, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eiks_oJDPZ8&amp;embeds_referring_euri=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.reddit.com%2F" rel="noopener">he delivered an absolute doozie</a>.</p><p>“Should we start printing the Jerami Grant-Lakers jerseys, by the way?” Lowe asked. “Should we just do it now? I might order one.”</p><p>Now granted, was the veteran journalist joking? Maybe, he said it was an air of sarcasm in his voice, and McMahon joked along about the prospects of the Lakers finally breaking their free agency draught with a big swing, noting that seemingly every good player in the NBA has been linked to <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-news-jalen-rose-says-clippers-will-never-surpass-lakers-as-most-popular-la-team">Los Angeles’ A-Time</a> at one point or another, but why would Lowe poke the proverbial bear if there isn’t any fire behind it?</p><p>At this point, the Lakers are really looking to bounce back from a down free agency, with fans openly linking the team to darn near everyone from Paul George to Tyus Jones at one point or another throughout the offseason. If Lowe is comfortable enough to make that joke off the cuff, who knows, maybe there really is some smoke behind the fire, and fans could see Gants in place of someone like Rui Hachimora or D’Angelo Russell in JJ Redick’s starting five this fall.</p><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/Jerami-Grant-playing-against-the-Lakers.jpg"><figcaption>Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><h2><b>An NBA exec questions why the Lakers would trade for Jerami Grant</b></h2><p>Discussing the prospects of a team like the Los Angeles Lakers or the Miami Heat trading for Jerami Grant, an anonymous NBA executive told Sean Deveney of Heavy that he isn’t sure why another team would trade for the Trail Blazers’ leading scorer from 2023-24, as at best he’s a<a href="https://heavy.com/sports/nba/los-angeles-lakers/jerami-grant-trade-picks/" rel="noopener"> third option on a good team</a>.</p><p>“Jerami Grant can play, he is a shooter, he is a good, active defender when he is engaged, he is going to do a lot of things that help your team. But he is a third option. He has some big numbers the last few years, but he has done it on terrible teams. No one is going to make a big trade for a guy who gives you 20 (points) on a bad team and 13 (points) on a good one,” an NBA exec told Sean Deveney of Heavy.</p><p>“Not with his contract. He is going to make $30 (million) next year $32 the year after that. Then he has two more years. You can’t pay your third option $34, 35 million. If Portland wants the Lakers, the Heat, any of these teams to take him, they’ve got to recognize that… They’re stubborn. Part of the job is to be stubborn, though. But part of the job is also seeing your mistakes and getting out of them. Grant was a mistake. Trading him now just to get out of that salary is the right thing to do, take whatever picks or young guys you can get.”</p><p>Can the Lakers really afford to give up their assets for a third-option forward who can do a little bit of everything but isn’t elite at anything? No, they probably shouldn’t cash it all in on that sort of player. He graduated from Marist College in May of 2022 and has written for TheKnicksWall.com and CenterFieldMarist.com in the past.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>Now that the Los Angeles Lakers have their coaching vacancy squared away, they can turn their full attention to the upcoming draft and filling out their roster.</p><p>The roster for <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-jj-redick-nsfw-message-head-coach">rookie head coach</a> JJ Redick will have to be a very good one in order for the Lakers to compete with the best of the best. LeBron James and Anthony Davis aren’t going anywhere barring a crazy change in developments but it will take more than them to make another deep playoff run.</p><p>The Lakers have plenty of options to go to this offseason. Two veterans <a href="https://sports.yahoo.com/with-new-coach-jj-redick-at-the-helm-the-lakers-draft-strategy-beginning-to-take-shape-232824674.html" rel="noopener">on the team’s radar</a>, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo! Sports are Jonas Valanciunas and Jerami Grant. The former is an unrestricted free agent while the latter is under contract for at least three more seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers.</p><h2><b>Lakers considering additions of Jonas Valanciunas, Jerami Grant</b></h2><p>Fischer writes the following: “There have since been several centers linked to the Lakers at No. 17 in Wednesday’s NBA Draft, most recently Baylor freshman Yves Missi as well as Indiana sophomore Ke’lel Ware. Pelicans center Jonas Valančiūnas, who’s approaching unrestricted free agency, has been another big man often mentioned by NBA figures as a potential Lakers frontcourt addition this summer.”</p><p>The Lakers adding Missi or Ware would give them an infusion of youth, size and athleticism. Adding Valanciunas, whose tenure in New Orleans <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-pelicans-phase-jonas-valanciunas-out-future-plans">appears to be over</a>, would give them a different type of size. It would also be another instance of a Pelicans center heading to the Lakers.</p><p>The 32-year-old Valanciunas played in all 82 games last season but his numbers took a hit. He averaged 12.2 points and 8.8 rebounds per game while shooting 55.9 percent from the field. Having JV would give the Lakers a solid scoring option down low and a tough rebounder. But it would limit their ability to play with a lot of pace or space or defensive versatility. If Redick wants to instill a more methodical style of play, Valanciunas is a solid option to have.</p><p>Fischer writes that Grant is “believed to be another potential addition on the Lakers’ wishlist.” Since the Blazers are rebuilding, it stands to reason that they would be willing to trade him away. The Lakers do have some contracts to couple together and trade, though they may not have enough intriguing young players or draft picks to make Portland want to give up Grant, a player the team values a lot.</p><p>Grant played just 54 games last season, averaging 21.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists per contest. He shot 40.2 percent from deep and can defend multiple positions, making him an intriguing player to put next to James as the other starting forward. Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving will continue to lead the way for the Mavs moving forward, but they could use a bit more help after getting overwhelmed by the Boston Celtics. Could Jerami Grant be a trade option this offseason?</p><p>SNY’s Ian Begley reports Dallas as one of <a href="https://sny.tv/articles/knicks-notes-center-on-the-radar-mitchell-robinson-isaiah-hartenstein" rel="noopener">“several teams”</a> that have “checked in on Grant’s situation in Portland.” Grant just finished up his second season with the Portland Trail Blazers and has four years left on his contract after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/blazers-news-jerami-grant-free-agency-5-year-160-million-contract">signing a five-year, $160 million deal</a> last summer.</p><h2><b>Jerami Grant’s situation with Blazers</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Blazers-Jerami-Grant-guarding-Mavs-Luka-Doncic.jpg"><figcaption>Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Jerami Grant agreed to that long-term deal with the Blazers before Damian Lillard demanded a trade out of Portland. Grant put up solid numbers last season, averaging 21.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists while shooting 45.1% from the field and 40.2% from 3-point range. However, the 30-year-old only played in 54 games and missed the last month of the season.</p><p>The Blazers finished with a 21-61 record, the worst mark in the Western Conference. Unfortunately for them, they wound up with the No. 7 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, falling three spots from their initial No. 4 slot.</p><p>With Portland still in rebuilding mode, general manager Joe Cronin could look to sell Grant at a high price given how much team control is left on his contract. On the flip side, there’s no real rush to trade him because of all that time left on his contract, and the Blazers could look to get back to respectability quickly. Grant can help them do that, so it would likely take a big offer to get a deal done.</p><h2><b>What Mavericks have to offer</b></h2><p>It’s already known that the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-tim-hardaway-jr-floated-as-key-mavericks-trade-asset">Mavericks will look to trade Tim Hardaway Jr.</a> this summer. Hardaway is set to make over $16 million in the final year of his contract in 2024-25, so that provides good salary for matching in a deal. Youngster Josh Green is making over $12 million next season and could be a coveted trade piece in a deal. PJ Washington and Daniel Gafford likely aren’t going anywhere after the roles they played in the NBA Finals run, unless it’s for a legitimate star upgrade, but Maxi Kleber and his $11 million salary is another trade candidate.</p><p>Dallas does have some <a href="https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/draft/future_drafts/detailed" rel="noopener">future draft picks available</a> to trade as well, with 2025 and 2031 first-round picks available to move on the night of the 2024 draft. The Mavericks do already owe first-round picks this year, in 2027 and 2029, and their 2028 and 2030 firsts are owed as swaps. Dallas can swap firsts in 2025, 2026 and 2031. They also have four second-round picks to play with.</p><h2><b>Grant’s fit on the Mavs</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Kyrie-Irving.jpg"><figcaption>© Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>The Mavericks found a lot of success with their new-look roster after the trade deadline, with the arrivals of Washington and Gafford helping jumpstart them. Derrick Jones Jr. found a home in the starting lineup and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mavericks-dallas-re-sign-2024-nba-free-agency">is a priority in free agency</a>.</p><p>While Washington and Jones were pivotal in their starting roles in Dallas this season, Grant would be an upgrade as a two-way threat who can shoot it from deep. Grant would become even more dangerous playing off Doncic and Irving, which would also allow him to expend more energy on the defensive end.</p><p>The Mavs could look to acquire Grant and then bring either Washington or Jones off the bench, assuming they’re both back, which would help their depth. It’s unclear if the Blazers are serious at all about trading Grant, but it’s worth a look for Dallas.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

While he hasn’t matched the offensive efficiency that he displayed playing next to Damian Lillard last season, Grant’s shooting is a far cry from the inefficient nights Detroit Pistons fans saw from him in the two years prior.</p><p>The Blazers struggled to score points throughout the year, due to challenges with both experience and talent. Having a player like Grant available meant that Portland had someone to give the ball to on the wing that could iso and create a reasonably efficient shot.</p><p>Of course, if you’re the Blazers, having your 30-year-old forward repeatedly iso-ing isn’t necessarily what you’re going for this season. Portland’s biggest goal this year was to develop their young talent and establish some chemistry among the roster. Injuries have been the biggest issue in regard to those goals, but Grant needing his shots, especially late in games, hasn’t helped.</p><h2>Jerami Grant’s future with the Blazers</h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Jerami-Grant-hunched-over.jpg"><figcaption>© Jaime Valdez-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>When the Blazers signed Grant to his massive extension last summer, it was done under the assumption that he would be teaming with Lillard for a second straight season. Of course, things didn’t work out that way and Dame ended up being traded to the Milwaukee Bucks after trying to force his way to the Miami Heat.</p><p>With the Blazers looking to go young, many questions were raised over the last several months regarding Grant’s future with the team.</p><p>By all accounts, he likes Portland, and the Blazers are happy with him as well. It wasn’t a surprise to anyone paying close attention that Grant wasn’t moved this trade deadline. With so many young players, a team like Portland needs to have a couple of veterans on the roster to keep things rolling smoothly and help the coach establish good locker room habits.</p><p>But, one year into his deal, it’s more likely that Grant is moved this offseason. While a big argument for keeping Grant this year was the fact that he wasn’t really in anyone’s way, development-wise, the Blazers are likely to take a forward (or two) in the NBA Draft this season.</p><p>Additionally, with the salary cap set to take a massive spike with the new TV deal being negotiated, Grant’s contract will represent a much smaller part of a team’s overall balance sheet. It’s a lot easier for a GM to talk themselves into Grant’s production at 15 percent of the salary cap vs. 20 percent.</p><p>Grant has done well with the Blazers and represented the franchise well in his time here. It certainly wouldn’t be disappointing for him to stay with Portland. However, the team is simply in a position where they need to start to develop some younger guys. Of course, there’s a salary floor, and they have to pay <i>somebody</i>, but expect Grant to be moved either this offseason or the following year as the team makes room for younger players on the roster.</p><p>So far in the 2023-24 NBA season, Jerami Grant has averaged exactly 21 points per game, along with 3.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per night for the Portland Trail Blazers. There is no urgent need for the Blazers to force Grant back into action since they’re obviously not going to the NBA Playoffs. They entered Saturday’s game with just 16 games on the season against 42 losses.</p><p>The Blazers will be taking a rest on Sunday before playing the Grizzlies again at the same venue Monday night. I think I’m okay. A little tightness, nothing too serious though.”</p><p>That’s good news for a Blazers team that needs a healthy Jerami Grant as it approaches the NBA All-Star break. Portland has guards Scoot Henderson, Malcolm Brogdon, Shaedon Sharpe, and Anfernee Simons all deserving playing time in the backcourt. That means that, while it hurts, missing a Shaedon Sharpe for two weeks here, or an Anfernee Simons for a month there isn’t the end of the world.</p><p>But Grant isn’t really standing in anyone’s way in the frontcourt. Jabari Walker is starting at the other forward spot, ostensibly making Grant the team’s small forward. But the only real reserves that Portland has at the forward spots are Matisse Thybulle and Toumani Camara. Both players are defensive stalwarts, but neither can reasonably fill Grant’s ability to iso and get the Blazers a bucket when they need one.</p><p>Hopefully, Grant’s injury doesn’t linger. Lower back issues can be tricky, and usually the only thing that fixes them is rest.</p><p>The Blazers won’t have a chance to rest after battling the Bulls. Dallas is a contender and they were originally reported to be interested in Pascal Siakam before he was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/pacers-news-pascal-siakam-raptors-pelicans-three-team-trade" rel="noopener">traded to the Indiana Pacers</a>. The Mavericks still may look to upgrade at the forward position, however.</p><p>Dallas has reportedly “<a href="https://hoopshype.com/lists/nba-trade-deadline-intel-lakers-knicks-nets-mavs-hawks-pacers-blazers-pistons-wizards-pelicans/" rel="noopener">kept tabs</a>” on Jerami Grant of the Portland Trail Blazers, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. Scotto also mentioned Washington Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma as a potential trade target for the Mavs.</p><p>It should be noted that Dallas is not expected to make Dereck Lively II available in trade talks. This was already known for the most part, but Scotto revealed that league sources confirmed the Mavericks’ unwillingness to trade Lively.</p><p>And keeping Lively, a 19-year-old rookie with a high-ceiling, is unquestionably the correct decision. The Mavs big man has played a pivotal role for Dallas. The Mavericks are a better team when Lively is on the floor.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-mavericks-andrew-wiggins-pascal-siakam" rel="noopener">Dallas was recently linked</a> to Andrew Wiggins, PJ Washington, and Dorian Finney-Smith. Acquiring depth at the center position is also an option for Dallas. Andre Drummond is a player <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/mavericks-dallas-need-2024-nba-trade-deadline" rel="noopener">who makes a lot of sense</a> for Dallas.</p><p>To summarize, the Mavs have plenty of potential trade targets. So do Kuzma and Grant make sense for Dallas?</p><h2><b>Mavs linked to Kuzma, Grant ahead of NBA trade deadline</b></h2><p>The Mavericks have endured struggles in the rebounding department this year. Adding size is likely their top priority.</p><p>Kuzma is a 6’9 forward who is capable of stretching the floor. He is also a respectable rebounder and can hold his own on the defensive end of the floor. So far in 2023-24, Kuzma is averaging 22.4 points per game on 45.6 percent field goal and 34.8 percent three-point shooting to go along with 6.3 rebounds per outing.</p><p>Grant, a 6’7 forward, is averaging 21.4 points per game. He is shooting 45.9 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from beyond the arc. Additionally, he’s recorded 3.6 rebounds per game.</p><p>Both players are possible fits for Dallas. Of course, the Washington Wizards and Portland Trail Blazers are looking for significant returns in trades for Kuzma and Grant.</p><p>The odds of Dallas acquiring one of these players will likely come down to how much the Mavs will be willing to surrender in a trade.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

As rumors continue to swirl around the league, teams are now wondering which forward could be on the move next. Portland Trail Blazers forward Jerami Grant has been <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-trade-deadline-2024-best-tradable-player-all-30-teams" rel="noopener">brought up in discussions</a> recently, especially since he can be of value to several playoff-contending teams right now.</p><p>Grant, who signed a five-year, $160 million contract with the Blazers this past offseason, has been one of the lone bright spots in Portland. Currently rebuilding, the Trail Blazers would be able to create a bidding war for Grant’s services at the trade deadline. With Siakam now off the market, several teams who lost out in the Spicy P sweepstakes such as the Dallas Mavericks and the Sacramento Kings are now looking towards a Plan B. Jerami Grant of the Portland Trail Blazers could be their next trade target. However, <a href="https://sports.yahoo.com/toronto-appears-to-be-seeking-established-young-players-in-deal-for-pascal-siakam-165933967.html">according to</a> Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the Blazers reportedly aren’t expected to take <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-blazers-jerami-grant-legitimate-trade-candidate-before-deadline">calls on Grant</a>.</p><p>“Jerami Grant would represent an absolute difference-maker for both Dallas and the Sacramento Kings, another leading suitor for Siakam,” Fischer wrote. “The Kings have made Harrison Barnes, Kevin Huerter and Davion Mitchell available in trade conversations, sources said. However, Portland is not expected to seriously entertain offers for Grant, league sources told Yahoo Sports, in contrast to veteran point guard Malcolm Brogdon.”</p><p>This is certainly a bummer for the Kings and the Mavericks, who have reportedly been linked to Jerami Grant. A player of his caliber could ideally help playoff contenders like Dallas and Sacramento, who are looking for roster upgrades to bolster their chances to make a deep playoff run this year. Instead, he is on Blazers team that is headed toward the tank.</p><p>Nonetheless, there is no point for Portland to be in a hurry to trade Jerami Grant.
