Honestly, it does feel like it was that recent.</p><p>Anthony spoke about Lin and all of the hoopla that surrounded him back in 2012 during a recent episode of his 7PM In Brooklyn podcast, and he and former Knicks teammate Baron Davis squashed any notion that they were jealous of the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3Ver9z3-VA&amp;t=3508s" rel="noopener">attention Lin attracted</a>.</p><p>People always talk about the, nobody liked Linsanity, personally me, you get what I’m saying,” Anthony said. “They throw that out there. People don’t know that behind the scenes we were very supportive of this thing.”</p><p>Anthony and Davis went on to say that they were trying to help Lin get business deals, but that Lin really didn’t have much interest in it.</p><p>“He was like, ‘No I’m not brought up on that, my parents,'” Anthony said. “But I respected that, like I hear that. Matter of fact, bring your parents in here, let us talk to them.”</p><p>Anthony added that he felt Linsanity could have been a $100 million venture if Lin would have played his cards right.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hbo-set-to-release-jeremy-lin-linsanity-documentary-on-epic-2012-knicks-season">Linsanity lasted</a> about two weeks during the 2011-12 campaign, where Lin played like a legitimate All-Star. After that, he cooled down.</p><h2><b>Jeremy Lin remained a solid player even after his Knicks days</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Jeremy-Lin.jpg"><figcaption>Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Funny enough, Lin only played 35 games for the Knicks, as he was forced to undergo knee surgery in April of that season and ended up missing the playoffs as a result. That ensuing summer, he ended up signing with the Houston Rockets in free agency.</p><p>While Lin never quite recaptured the magic of his scintillating two-week run in February 2012, he did remain a solid player, averaging 13.4 points and 6.1 assists over 32.2 minutes per game with the Rockets in the 2012-13 campaign.</p><p>He spent two years in Houston overall and then bounced around a bit, spending time with the Los Angeles Lakers, Charlotte Hornets, Brooklyn Nets, Atlanta Hawks and Toronto Raptors. For most of that time, Lin posted very similar numbers throughout. His best season came with the Nets in 2016-17 when he registered 14.5 points, 5.1 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game on 43.8/37.2/81.6 shooting splits, although he was limited to just 36 games that year due to injuries.</p><p>Lin was certainly not an All-Star-caliber player, but he was a good slasher who was solid at drawing contact. He wasn’t a fantastic perimeter shooter, but he made up for it with his quickness and decent ball skills.</p><p>The 35-year-old last appeared in the NBA five years ago.</p><p>Lin leaves behind one of the more interesting legacies of the last 15-20 years. At the time, New York was starving for success, so Lin’s run brought some excitement back to Madison Square Garden. To this day, people still remember that stretch where Lin was one of the most dominant players in the NBA. His <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/jeremy-lin-describes-disrespected-mindset-of-facing-kobe-bryant-ahead-of-iconic-msg-performance">crowning achievement</a> was when he dropped 38 points against Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers on Feb. 10 of that year.</p><p>During that month of February, Lin averaged 20.9 points, 8.4 assists and four rebounds per game.</p><p>We may never see anything like Linsanity ever again.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Jeremy Lin tried it once, and even though his shot went in, the damage had been done.</p><p>From the moment the Los Angeles Lakers traded away Shaquille O’Neal to the Miami Heat in 2004, Bryant was the undeniable face of their franchise. He dominated the league for years and showed no signs of slowing down. When Bryant tore his Achilles on April 12, 2013, then suffered a lateral tibial plateau fracture a season later, most thought it was the end of his basketball career. But Kobe being Kobe, was determined to prove the doubters wrong.</p><p>In the 2014-2015 season, Jeremy Lin signed with the Lakers at arguably the worst time. The team was coming off a season of winning only 27 games and carried lofty expectations heading into the season. From the start, the pairing seemed like a match made in heaven. Bryant and Lin often watched film and texted each other before games.</p><h2><b>The downfall of Jeremy Lin and Kobe Bryant’s tenure as teammates</b></h2><p>After a rough start to the season, losing their first two games, Lin wanted to try something new. In their <a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/201410310LAL.html" rel="noopener">third game of the year</a> against the Los Angeles Clippers, tied ball game with under four minutes left, Lin did the unthinkable. He waved off Bryant instead of giving him an elbow iso against the smaller Chris Paul and asked for a screen. Bryant obliged, Lin made a three to give them the lead, everything should be fine, right?</p><p>The Lakers ended up losing that game by seven points and the two teammates never spoke to each other for four months. Lin later revealed when he appeared on an episode of the All The Smoke Podcast <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XU6LNiDhr9s&amp;t=3539s" rel="noopener">what led to the incident</a> and his four-month beef with Bryant:</p><p>“We would be texting at three or four in the morning, arguing, conflicting with each other,” Lin said.</p><p>“It got to the point, I told him I’m ok with anything as long as you talk to me like a man in terms of don’t talk down to me like a boy talk to me like a man and respect me. So, for me in that situation, as we’re going back and forth, I finally had enough that’s why I waived him off that one time,” Lin continued.</p><p>The beef fizzled out when Lin signed with the Hornets the next season. In their first game against each other, Lin said they walked up to each other like nothing ever happened and Kobe Bryant continued to mentor Lin for the rest of his career.</p><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Unfortunately, Lin suffered one of the scariest types of injury in sports: a head injury. During one of his games in Taiwan, Lin <a href="https://twitter.com/ClutchPointsApp/status/1657755325750030337" rel="noopener">received an inadvertent elbow</a> from former Brooklyn Nets teammate Chris McCollough. The blow shook Lin, with his fingers going into the dreaded fencing position. Still, blows like that are terrifying to see. None of this is McCollough’s fault: it was a honest attempt at a rebound that went awry.</p><p>Jeremy Lin will likely be monitored closely for a possible concussion after this accidental hit. The “fencing” position (arms outstretched and fingers curling up) is a clear sign of a traumatic brain injury. The most notable recent instance of this happening was in the NFL, when Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa suffered a serious concussion in Week 4 of the 2022 season.</p><p>The injury to Lin comes at the heels of another NBA player taking an elbow to the head.  Game 5 of the Lakers-Warriors series saw Anthony Davis <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-anthony-davis-exits-game-5-with-injury-scare-after-smack-to-the-face" rel="noopener">take an accidental elbow</a> to the temple from Kevon Looney. While Davis didn’t go into the fencing position like Lin, the star center was clearly dazed and disoriented after the hit.</p><p>Here’s to hoping that Jeremy Lin recovers fully from this scary injury. Lin went an incredibly efficient 19-30 from the field and 4-8 from beyond the arc. He also hit eight of his nine free throw attempts.</p><p>Lin made a name for himself in 2012 with the Knicks. He averaged 14.6 points per game on just under 45 percent field goal shooting with New York during his second season in the NBA. The term <i>Linsanity</i> emerged during Lin’s breakout campaign. He had a number of clutch moments which will surely bring back nostalgic feelings for Knicks fans. HBO even <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/hbo-set-to-release-jeremy-lin-linsanity-documentary-on-epic-2012-knicks-season" rel="noopener">previously released a documentary</a> on Linsanity in 2022.</p><p>Jeremy Lin performed fairly well after that special 2011-12 campaign with the Knicks. However, he never truly became a superstar in the league. Regardless, he was a reliable option capable of making big plays on occasion. Lin’s final season in the NBA came in 2018-19 with the Toronto Raptors. He’s since attempted to return to the NBA, but it <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/i-deserved-it-jeremy-lin-vocal-on-harsh-reality-he-endured-as-nba-teams-shunned-him" rel="noopener">hasn’t worked out for him</a>.</p><p>In all likelihood, Jeremy Lin’s time in the NBA is probably over for good. Following this epic performance though, perhaps NBA teams will reconsider their stances on Lin. For this piece, let’s take a look at 10 NBA one hit wonders.</p><h2>Sundiata Gaines</h2><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><p>After playing overseas and in the D-League, now called the G-League, Sundiata Gaines finally received his NBA call-up. His breakout game came against LeBron James and the Cavaliers. Gaines finished with nine points, including the game-winning buzzer beating three to upset the Cavs. Three would also be Gaines’ first in his NBA career. While the Lakers were in the midst of another losing season, they found solace in Andre Ingram’s strong debut. He dropped 19 points, spiked by four of five shooting from rainbow country. After going off, it’s safe to say Ingram called it a career, scoring only five points total after that game.</p><h2>Corey Brewer</h2><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><p>While Brewer is mostly known for being a role player, he exploded in a game against the Rockets by dropping 51 points. For a player that has never averaged more than 13.0 points per game in his career, it was an impressive feat. After making history for the Timberwolves, Brewer would go back to becoming a role player, albeit a solid rotational piece.</p><h2>Terrence Ross</h2><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><p>Speaking of 50-point games, Terrence Ross also had a similar explosion in 2014 against the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/clippers-news-i-dont-do-st-russell-westbrook-tired-of-the-haters-amid-new-role-since-joining-clippers" rel="noopener">Los Angeles Clippers</a>. Coming into the game, the then-Raptors guard was only averaging 9.8 points per outing. While Ross was credited for his masterful performance, he’d never become anything more than that.</p><h2>Tyreke Evans</h2><figure class="op-interactive"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">Evans, 32, was a 2010 NBA Rookie of the Year. I think this is Kobe Bryant.'”</p><p>That’s a pretty awesome story. Also, it’s not at all surprising considering how this is Kobe Bryant we’re talking about here. It appears as if the addition of Jalen Brunson, fresh off a four-year $104 million deal that was signed off the back of a stellar 2022 postseason performance, is <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/knicks-news-jalen-brunson-love-fest-spreading-in-new-york-after-big-time-play-vs-hornets/">already paying dividends</a>.</p><p>In fact, Brunson is already reminding Knicks fans of a certain guard who set the world ablaze with his performances ten years ago. There have been direct sequels to movies before that did not cast the same actor for the leading role, having pivoted to an entirely different story which is still set in the same universe, right?</p><p>And a spin-off makes so much sense too: both Lin and Brunson were unheralded guards, the former being undrafted out of Harvard and the latter slipping to the 33rd overall pick back in 2018. Both have shown a smidge of scoring and playmaking early in their careers, but they have seized the sizable opportunity when it was thrown their way, with Lin stepping into the fold as an immediate star in February 2012 and Brunson emerging as a borderline All-Star talent in the playoffs with the Mavs.</p><p>While Jeremy Lin has had an overall solid career, his performances never quite reached his February 2012 levels again, tailing off after he signed with the Houston Rockets in the ensuing offseason, and after only seven years, he was out of the league. However, it seems as if Brunson is primed to sustain these levels of performances, as it does not seem like he’d be hampered with <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/i-deserved-it-jeremy-lin-vocal-on-harsh-reality-he-endured-as-nba-teams-shunned-him/">off-court issues</a> the way Lin was.</p><p>Nevertheless, the season is still in its infancy, and Jalen Brunson and the Knicks know that there is still a lot of work left to be done in their quest to make it back to the postseason.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Out of nowhere, Lin showed what he was capable of, leading Knicks fans to the kind of euphoria that hasn’t been seen in New York since their title-contending days. However, despite Lin’s All-Star caliber performances in the Big Apple, the Knicks let him walk to the Houston Rockets during the 2012 free agency.</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/carmelo-anthony-jeremy-lin-story-did-melo-force-linsanity-out-of-new-york/">common theory</a> behind Jeremy Lin’s departure from New York is that then-franchise player Carmelo Anthony had grown to resent the fame Lin was attracting and pushed the Knicks brass not to resign him. However, Lin acknowledged in a recent interview that it’s difficult to pin the blame solely on Anthony’s shoulders.</p><p>“That’s the theory, and that’s what everyone says, but I can’t feed the speculation train because I don’t actually know. The one-time NBA champ joined the Golden State Warriors’ NBA G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors, in 2021 with the hopes of being called up to the big leagues. This move follows a two-year stint with the Beijing Ducks, also of the CBA.</p><p>Now at 34, this recent move by Jeremy Lin feels like the final straw in terms of his dream to return to the NBA. Father Time is catching up with the former New York Knicks sensation (could anyone forget about <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/knicks-news-jeremy-lin-4-word-message-to-new-york-on-10-year-anniversary-of-linsanity/">Linsanity</a>?), and it seems like we’ve already seen Lin play in his last NBA game.</p><p>In nine years in the league, Lin was a journeyman who played for no less than eight different teams. The Harvard product went undrafted in 2010 before the Warriors signed him, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-jeremy-lin-reveals-harsh-reality-stephen-curry-faced-before-superstar-rise/" rel="noopener">during which he saw how Steph was poorly treated by then head coach Keith Smart</a>.</p><p>The now 33-year-old playmaker–who last played in the NBA in 2019 with the Toronto Raptors–confessed that while he felt Curry could be “great” and “really, really good” in the NBA, he didn’t expect him to build a career like he did with the Warriors.</p><p>Curry basically transformed how basketball is played in the NBA and the whole world, in the process becoming the greatest shooter of all time.</p><p>“I did not think he was going to be that good. But I didn’t understand why Steph was treated the way he was in that one season I was there. I felt like he was really, really good. As poorly as he was treated, he still averaged 18 or 19 points. I thought, ‘Imagine when this guy gets a couple more years of experience under his belt, and really gets the reins, the keys to the franchise, what he will be able to do,” Lin shared in an interview with <a href="https://www.skysports.com/nba/news/36226/12670687/jeremy-lin-on-the-fight-stephen-curry-faced-to-play-his-own-way-and-lasting-effects-of-linsanity" rel="noopener">Sky Sports</a>.</p><p>“So, I always knew he was going to be great. I did not expect all of that.”</p><p>For what it’s worth, Jeremy Lin is hardly alone in his take. However, according to Jeremy Lin, their head coach when he was still with the Dubs didn’t even believe in Steph.</p><p>Before the legend of Linsanity began in New York, Lin spent his early years in the NBA with the Warriors. The Dubs signed him as an undrafted rookie in 2010, during which he teamed up with a then sophomore guard in Curry.</p><p>It was at that time when Lin saw how Curry was harshly treated by their head coach Keith Smart. Instead of wavering, though, Steph worked harder and never lost belief in himself. With that, Lin was not surprised to see Steph become the great player that he is now.</p><p>“I was with him my rookie year. The coach that we had didn’t believe that much in Steph and would bench him a lot, get on him, yell at him a lot, was just really tough on him,” Lin shared in an interview with <a href="http://skysports.com/nba/news/36226/12670687/jeremy-lin-on-the-fight-stephen-curry-faced-to-play-his-own-way-and-lasting-effects-of-linsanity" rel="noopener">Sky Sports</a>.</p><p>“It almost became normal that every fourth quarter, he would get benched for a certain stretch. I felt that would shake any player to some degree and even though his confidence would kind of waver a little bit – because of the way that he was being coached – he had a deep, deep, very strong belief that he was a great player and that he would become a great player, and that the way things were going at that time was not how they were always going to go.”</p><p>Jeremy Lin also shared how Stephen Curry has always hold himself to a high standard, even on defense which is not his specialty. He recalled how he used to attack Steph during Warriors practice and how the sharpshooter would be upset at himself. It was no offense to Lin, as it is Curry simply putting higher expectations on himself.</p><p>Perhaps that experience Curry had early in his career pushed him to be a better player. Nonetheless, credit should be given to Curry alone for not letting it shake his confidence.
