But after spending time with four different teams to start his career, Carter finally found his way back home to Chicago in free agency this offseason, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bulls-news-chicago-agrees-to-contract-with-former-bucks-guard-that-will-excite-demar-derozan" rel="noopener">landing with the Bulls</a> on a 3-year, $20 million dollar contract.</p><p>Carter, 27, grew up in Chicago as a diehard Bulls fan and has been <a href="https://www.nbcsportschicago.com/nba/chicago-bulls/how-bulls-jevon-carter-plans-to-make-on-off-court-impact/495141/" rel="noopener">waiting for this moment</a> for as long as he can remember, via KC Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago.</p><p>“I can’t even really put it in words, to be honest. Anytime I dreamed about going to the NBA as a kid, it was always in a Chicago Bulls uniform,” Carter said. “So getting that call and hearing, ‘Congratulations, you’re going to be a Chicago Bull,’ like, I don’t even know what to say. My feelings are all over the place.</p><p>“I used to watch every game as a kid. Every single game. My whole life growing up, all I could think about was, ‘I’m going to be a Chicago Bull.’”</p><p>Jevon Carter’s emotional return home has been widely praised as one of the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bulls-2023-nba-free-agency-grades-every-signing" rel="noopener">Bulls’ best moves</a> in free agency, as his defense at the point of attack and much-improved three-point shooting should help solidify a Chicago backcourt that has more questions than answers. Carter’s defensive prowess is his main calling card, and in combination with Alex Caruso (and perhaps Lonzo Ball <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bulls-news-chicago-applies-injury-exception-due-lonzo-balls-status-2023-24" rel="noopener">somewhere down the line</a>), the Bulls can regularly trot out one of the best defensive backcourts in the league. He emerged as a key rotational player for head coach Mike Budenholzer as the campaign progressed, which included starting in each of the team’s playoff games.</p><p>On the other hand, Carter signed with the Bucks in February after being waived by the Brooklyn Nets. The versatile point guard featured in all but one of the Bucks’ playoff contests this year, and he also ended up exerting a keen impact on the defensive side of the ball.</p><p>From Bucks general manager Jon Horst’s standpoint, he much <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/bucks-news-gm-jon-horst-speaks-out-on-wesley-matthews-future-ahead-of-free-agency/" rel="noopener">aspired</a> to see Matthews and Carter stay put in Milwaukee. For one, he noted earlier this month that he hoped to “figure something out when the time’s right” in regard to Matthews’ future with the team. He was originally selected in the second round of the 2018 draft with the 32nd overall pick by the Memphis Grizzles. He primarily played with the Memphis Hustle, the Grizzlies’ G League affiliate, before being traded to Phoenix during the 2019 offseason.</p><p>The Suns are looking to improve following a 34-39 season in 2019-20. The main focal point for Phoenix in 2020 would be the signing of Chris Paul, which they hope will help them get into the playoffs for the first time in over a decade. Phoenix’s last playoff appearance occurred during the 2009-10 season when Amar’e Stoudemire was still on the team.</p><p>Phoenix has also <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/suns-news-jae-crowder-agrees-to-3-year-deal-with-phoenix/" rel="noopener noreferrer">signed</a> Jae Crowder to a three-year deal worth around $30 million. With the recent signings and a young core of Deandre Ayton and Devin Booker, the Suns look to be a team on the rise. It will not be an easy road, however, with the Western Conference loaded with talent on multiple franchises.</p><p>The teams who were above the Suns and made it into the playoffs in the West do not look like they are going anywhere, with clubs like the Utah Jazz and Dallas Mavericks having young stars.
