Their latest was against the Denver Nuggets as they went into overtime to get the 137-131. With 40 seconds left, the Warriors went up six points <a href="https://x.com/NickFriedell/status/1981582956104917346" rel="noopener">after a big 3-pointer</a>.</p><p>“Jimmy hits a huge three. Steph tries to get him to hit the night night — Jimmy runs back on defense — Warriors get another stop and another Steph bucket. Chase is roaring. Warriors players are beaming down on the floor. The group’s confidence is sky high,” Nick Friedell wrote on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>After the game, Curry shared that he was hoping that Butler would do the ‘night-night’ celebration, but he never did it.</p><p>“I was hoping he’d give it back, but he left me on an island,” Curry said. “Draymond hit one last year, so I thought I could share the honor. Nuggets</b></h2><p>Down the stretch of the game, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-new-death-lineup-beat-nuggets">Warriors deployed a new lineup</a> of Curry, Butler, Jonathan Kuminga, Draymond Green, and Al Horford. It was a lineup that didn’t have any reps together going into the season, but they were able to find out how to work together and get a win.</p><p>“It was during a timeout. Terry [Stotts] suggested it, Chris DeMarco also suggested it,” Kerr said via Kenzo Fukuda of ClutchPoints.</p><p>“They just thought the way Steph [Curry] was going with Jimmy [Butler] out there, we were going to score,” Kerr continued. “That was my biggest concern: Could we execute? And they just reminded me we have Steph and Jimmy and they’ll find a way to score. And they did. It was fantastic to watch the defense with that kind of size and length.”</p><p>That lineup may be considered the new version of the “Death lineup” that many people remember when Kevin Durant was with the team. Fox Sports 1’s Colin Cowherd thinks it should be prioritized. As <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-jimmy-butler-once-again-destroy-trade-skeptics">Butler sets out to prove his critics wrong</a> in his first full season with the Warriors, Cowherd is skeptical, while the Bucks are one disappointing season away from receiving an Antetokounmpo trade request.</p><p>Some say it’s less as the clock is ticking on whether the Bucks can make their first deep playoff run following three consecutive first-round exits. The six-time All-Star caused a lot of turmoil during the end of his Miami Heat stint after he requested a trade, but he proved to be a good fit once he joined the Warriors. Butler is still proving the skeptics wrong, and his skill set was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-jimmy-butler-sends-strong-message-with-dubs-career-high">on display in the Warriors’ opener</a> against the Los Angeles Lakers.</p><h2><b>Jimmy Butler keeps proving that he is a great fit for the Warriors</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Jimmy-Butler-Warriors-Lakers.jpg"><figcaption>William Liang-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Warriors went from being vulnerable to missing the playoffs last season to a team that won a playoff series once Butler joined the team. Butler isn’t the typical superstar in the sense that he does all of the dirty work. He doesn’t need to put up high scoring totals to impact the game. He is a great rebounder, he plays elite defense, and he is a solid playmaker. Butler always plays with intensity and effort, too.</p><p>Butler can certainly score in bunches when need be, though. That was evident in the first game of the season. Butler led all Golden State scorers with 31 points. He was <a href="https://www.nba.com/game/gsw-vs-lal-0022500002/box-score" rel="noopener">16-for-16</a> from the charity stripe, and his ability to draw contact and make free throws might be his biggest contribution to the team. After all, Curry has never shot as many free throws as many of the other superstars around the league, and Draymond Green is obviously limited when it comes to being a self-creator and overall scorer.</p><p>Butler helped lift the Warriors to a 119-109 victory in a game in which the Lakers’ Luka Doncic went off, and his performance should give the Warriors more hope that their title window is still open. With Steve Kerr coaching the team, the Warriors have won four championships, and they shouldn’t be written off yet. After all, their last championship came as a surprise to many. The Western Conference is stacked, but young teams like the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, and San Antonio Spurs are still finding their way.</p><p>Butler seems like the piece that has been missing, and it makes sense because the Marquette product does a little bit of everything. It was a team effort, but Jimmy Butler and Stephen Curry led the way for the team throughout most of the game. One thing that helped them stay afloat was free throws, as Butler went 16-for-16 at the line, while Curry went 8-for-8. There might be extra motivation for Butler to not miss many free throws this season, as he <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/46681601/jimmy-butler-jonathan-kuminga-carry-warriors-opening-win" rel="noopener">revealed a bet</a> he made with Draymond Green.</p><p>“I don’t think it’s a bad bet. But it’s kind of a bad bet,” Butler said via ESPN’s Anthony Slater. “I’ve got a bet with Dray that I got to shoot a better (FT) percentage than No. 30 (Steph) on our team.”</p><p>Funny enough, it seems like everybody knew about the bet except Curry. Butler has a long way to go this season if he wants a chance at winning the bet, because it seems like Curry barely misses when he gets to the line.</p><h2><b>Jimmy Butler leads the way for Warriors in season opener</b></h2><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-jimmy-butler-sends-strong-message-with-dubs-career-high">Butler proved to be a key piece</a> for the Warriors when he was traded to the team last season, and he continued that narrative in the first game of the season. He got the Warriors in a rhythm to start the game, scoring 12 points in the first nine minutes.</p><p>“He was the reason we became a good team last year,” head coach Steve Kerr said. “He provides that stability, that ability to get fouled, go to the line and settle the game down.</p><p>“He just controls the game out there for us. We need that. We’ve always been at our best when we can provide the support for Draymond and Steph’s chaos with stability. The chaos is really powerful, but it can get away from us. Jimmy settles us down.”</p><p>When the Lakers looked like they were going to make a run, Butler was indeed the stabilizer at times, getting to the line and knocking down his free throws. But a new season is upon us, and Butler now has even more time to integrate himself within the Warriors fabric. And what better way to open his first full season for the Dubs than to score 31 points to power them to a 119-109 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night.</p><p>Butler may no longer be the man who can carry the scoring load night-in, night-out, but he raises his game against the best competition, which is what he did against the Lakers. The Warriors star forward took advantage of a Lakers defense that was in disarray, as he <a href="https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/jimmy-butler-stats-today" rel="noopener">scored more than half</a> of his points from the charity stripe (he went 16-16 from the foul line).</p><p>And in so doing, he managed to score his <a href="https://x.com/PolymarketHoops/status/1980861023533035584" rel="noopener">biggest points total in a single game</a> in his brief Dubs tenure thus far, as pointed out by Polymarket Hoops on X (formerly Twitter).</p><p>Butler knows that there is a growing sense of urgency both for him and the Warriors to compete for a championship. He’s not exactly a spring chicken, and Curry and Draymond Green are both getting up there in age as well.</p><p>Time is ticking on them to win a championship, although in the loaded Western Conference, no team can afford to slip up. The Warriors’ strong start to the year as buoyed by an incredible performance from Butler means that they’re ready to step up to the plate and challenge the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Western Conference supremacy.</p><h2><b>Jimmy Butler’s Robin takes center stage as Warriors’ Batman takes a backseat</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Steph-curry-with-Jimmy-Butler.jpg"></figure><p>Butler knows that the Warriors brought him in back in February to be the secondary star to Curry. He has no delusions of grandeur; he knows his role is to be the best sidekick he can be to the Warriors’ GOAT.</p><p>But there are nights where Batman simply doesn’t have it going, and Robin has to pick up the slack. That’s exactly <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-buddy-hield-jimmy-butler-robin-comparison-stephen-curry-batman">what Butler did for the Warriors</a>, as he was a constant threat to put points on the board all night long against a shaky Lakers defense with Curry not exactly being at his best.</p><p>The Warriors will now look to keep it going on Thursday night as they face the Denver Nuggets for their home opener.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
