Their latest was against the Denver Nuggets as they went into overtime to get the 137-131. With 40 seconds left, the Warriors went up six points <a href="https://x.com/NickFriedell/status/1981582956104917346" rel="noopener">after a big 3-pointer</a>.</p><p>“Jimmy hits a huge three. Steph tries to get him to hit the night night — Jimmy runs back on defense — Warriors get another stop and another Steph bucket. Chase is roaring. Warriors players are beaming down on the floor. The group’s confidence is sky high,” Nick Friedell wrote on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>After the game, Curry shared that he was hoping that Butler would do the ‘night-night’ celebration, but he never did it.</p><p>“I was hoping he’d give it back, but he left me on an island,” Curry said. “Draymond hit one last year, so I thought I could share the honor. Nuggets</b></h2><p>Down the stretch of the game, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-new-death-lineup-beat-nuggets">Warriors deployed a new lineup</a> of Curry, Butler, Jonathan Kuminga, Draymond Green, and Al Horford. It was a lineup that didn’t have any reps together going into the season, but they were able to find out how to work together and get a win.</p><p>“It was during a timeout. Terry [Stotts] suggested it, Chris DeMarco also suggested it,” Kerr said via Kenzo Fukuda of ClutchPoints.</p><p>“They just thought the way Steph [Curry] was going with Jimmy [Butler] out there, we were going to score,” Kerr continued. “That was my biggest concern: Could we execute? And they just reminded me we have Steph and Jimmy and they’ll find a way to score. And they did. It was fantastic to watch the defense with that kind of size and length.”</p><p>That lineup may be considered the new version of the “Death lineup” that many people remember when Kevin Durant was with the team. Fox Sports 1’s Colin Cowherd thinks it should be prioritized. As <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-jimmy-butler-once-again-destroy-trade-skeptics">Butler sets out to prove his critics wrong</a> in his first full season with the Warriors, Cowherd is skeptical, while the Bucks are one disappointing season away from receiving an Antetokounmpo trade request.</p><p>Some say it’s less as the clock is ticking on whether the Bucks can make their first deep playoff run following three consecutive first-round exits. The six-time All-Star caused a lot of turmoil during the end of his Miami Heat stint after he requested a trade, but he proved to be a good fit once he joined the Warriors. Butler is still proving the skeptics wrong, and his skill set was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-jimmy-butler-sends-strong-message-with-dubs-career-high">on display in the Warriors’ opener</a> against the Los Angeles Lakers.</p><h2><b>Jimmy Butler keeps proving that he is a great fit for the Warriors</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Jimmy-Butler-Warriors-Lakers.jpg"><figcaption>William Liang-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The Warriors went from being vulnerable to missing the playoffs last season to a team that won a playoff series once Butler joined the team. Butler isn’t the typical superstar in the sense that he does all of the dirty work. He doesn’t need to put up high scoring totals to impact the game. He is a great rebounder, he plays elite defense, and he is a solid playmaker. Butler always plays with intensity and effort, too.</p><p>Butler can certainly score in bunches when need be, though. That was evident in the first game of the season. Butler led all Golden State scorers with 31 points. He was <a href="https://www.nba.com/game/gsw-vs-lal-0022500002/box-score" rel="noopener">16-for-16</a> from the charity stripe, and his ability to draw contact and make free throws might be his biggest contribution to the team. After all, Curry has never shot as many free throws as many of the other superstars around the league, and Draymond Green is obviously limited when it comes to being a self-creator and overall scorer.</p><p>Butler helped lift the Warriors to a 119-109 victory in a game in which the Lakers’ Luka Doncic went off, and his performance should give the Warriors more hope that their title window is still open. With Steve Kerr coaching the team, the Warriors have won four championships, and they shouldn’t be written off yet. After all, their last championship came as a surprise to many. The Western Conference is stacked, but young teams like the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, and San Antonio Spurs are still finding their way.</p><p>Butler seems like the piece that has been missing, and it makes sense because the Marquette product does a little bit of everything. It was a team effort, but Jimmy Butler and Stephen Curry led the way for the team throughout most of the game. One thing that helped them stay afloat was free throws, as Butler went 16-for-16 at the line, while Curry went 8-for-8. There might be extra motivation for Butler to not miss many free throws this season, as he <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/46681601/jimmy-butler-jonathan-kuminga-carry-warriors-opening-win" rel="noopener">revealed a bet</a> he made with Draymond Green.</p><p>“I don’t think it’s a bad bet. But it’s kind of a bad bet,” Butler said via ESPN’s Anthony Slater. “I’ve got a bet with Dray that I got to shoot a better (FT) percentage than No. 30 (Steph) on our team.”</p><p>Funny enough, it seems like everybody knew about the bet except Curry. Butler has a long way to go this season if he wants a chance at winning the bet, because it seems like Curry barely misses when he gets to the line.</p><h2><b>Jimmy Butler leads the way for Warriors in season opener</b></h2><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-jimmy-butler-sends-strong-message-with-dubs-career-high">Butler proved to be a key piece</a> for the Warriors when he was traded to the team last season, and he continued that narrative in the first game of the season. He got the Warriors in a rhythm to start the game, scoring 12 points in the first nine minutes.</p><p>“He was the reason we became a good team last year,” head coach Steve Kerr said. “He provides that stability, that ability to get fouled, go to the line and settle the game down.</p><p>“He just controls the game out there for us. We need that. We’ve always been at our best when we can provide the support for Draymond and Steph’s chaos with stability. The chaos is really powerful, but it can get away from us. Jimmy settles us down.”</p><p>When the Lakers looked like they were going to make a run, Butler was indeed the stabilizer at times, getting to the line and knocking down his free throws. But a new season is upon us, and Butler now has even more time to integrate himself within the Warriors fabric. And what better way to open his first full season for the Dubs than to score 31 points to power them to a 119-109 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night.</p><p>Butler may no longer be the man who can carry the scoring load night-in, night-out, but he raises his game against the best competition, which is what he did against the Lakers. The Warriors star forward took advantage of a Lakers defense that was in disarray, as he <a href="https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/jimmy-butler-stats-today" rel="noopener">scored more than half</a> of his points from the charity stripe (he went 16-16 from the foul line).</p><p>And in so doing, he managed to score his <a href="https://x.com/PolymarketHoops/status/1980861023533035584" rel="noopener">biggest points total in a single game</a> in his brief Dubs tenure thus far, as pointed out by Polymarket Hoops on X (formerly Twitter).</p><p>Butler knows that there is a growing sense of urgency both for him and the Warriors to compete for a championship. He’s not exactly a spring chicken, and Curry and Draymond Green are both getting up there in age as well.</p><p>Time is ticking on them to win a championship, although in the loaded Western Conference, no team can afford to slip up. The Warriors’ strong start to the year as buoyed by an incredible performance from Butler means that they’re ready to step up to the plate and challenge the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Western Conference supremacy.</p><h2><b>Jimmy Butler’s Robin takes center stage as Warriors’ Batman takes a backseat</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Steph-curry-with-Jimmy-Butler.jpg"></figure><p>Butler knows that the Warriors brought him in back in February to be the secondary star to Curry. He has no delusions of grandeur; he knows his role is to be the best sidekick he can be to the Warriors’ GOAT.</p><p>But there are nights where Batman simply doesn’t have it going, and Robin has to pick up the slack. After stops in Chicago, Minnesota, Philadelphia, and Miami, the 14-year veteran landed in Golden State via trade earlier this year. As a result, both forwards landed on the <a href="https://ak-static.cms.nba.com/referee/injury/Injury-Report_2025-10-20_06PM.pdf" rel="noopener">team’s injury report</a>.</p><p>The good news is that Butler and Kuminga have each been dealing with “minor ankle inflammation,” and they will be <a href="https://x.com/BrettSiegelNBA/status/1980699948493713778" rel="noopener">available to play</a> on Tuesday to open the season in Los Angeles, a team source told ClutchPoints.</p><p>Both players practiced leading up to the season opener in Los Angeles and di not experience any setbacks.</p><p>Butler has been dealing with on-and-off again ankle problems during the preseason, and he <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/sources-warriors-confident-jimmy-butler-ankle-tweak-wont-impact-season-opener-vs-lakers">tweaked his ankle during a preseason practice</a>, resulting in him missing Golden State’s final two preseason games.</p><p>This injury was never a concern to the Warriors, as they remained confident that the All-Star forward would be ready for the first game of the regular season and continued downplaying the severity of his ankle sprain. As a result of some minor swelling, the Dubs operated with caution to end the preseason, sources said.</p><p>Kuminga missed the Warriors’ final preseason game on Friday after tweaking his ankle in the team’s previous game on Tuesday.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-jonathan-kuminga-ejected-blazers-game-gesture-ref">The young forward was ejected</a> after playing just 18 minutes after arguing a no-call while driving to the rim against the Portland Trail Blazers. When he attempted to finish a layup after clear contact to his legs, Kuminga approached the referee and was irate.</p><p>For the first time in his career, Kuminga was ejected from the game and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-jonathan-kuminga-fined-35000-nba-first-career-ejection-preseason">later fined $35,000 by the NBA</a> for “inappropriate contact with and continuing to pursue a game official.”</p><p>After the game, Kuminga said his ankle was clipped from behind, resulting in some minor swelling. This was the same ankle Kuminga injured during the 2024-25 season and missed over two months as a result.</p><p>Both Butler and Kuminga are ready to play in Los Angeles, and they should not face any limitation, barring an unforeseen setback in pregame warmups. Ankle injuries can be tough and flare up at any time, but these initial injuries were said to be minor, and both players are ready for the Warriors’ season opener.</p><p>However, the Dubs will be without fifth-year wing Moses Moody, as he is currently dealing with a calf injury that will sideline him for some time to begin the new season. That will change on Tuesday night, as <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-jimmy-butler-miss-dubs-next-preseason-game-ankle-injury">Butler will miss the Warriors’ fourth preseason game</a> on the road against the Portland Trail Blazers due to an ankle sprain.</p><p>While Butler has been dealing with on-and-off again ankle problems during the preseason, this <a href="https://x.com/BrettSiegelNBA/status/1978125822759252305" rel="noopener">injury occurred</a> on Friday during practice when the Dubs star “tweaked” his ankle, as described to ClutchPoints. He is being held out from Tuesday’s game against the Blazers out of precaution, head coach Steve Kerr said on Monday.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-stephen-curry-jimmy-butler-wont-play-vs-lakers">Butler missed Sunday night’s game</a> against the Los Angeles Lakers due to an excused absence.</p><p>The good news surrounding Butler and the Warriors is that this is a minor ankle injury and it is not expected to sideline him for an extended period of time, sources told ClutchPoints. Butler is being labeled as “day-to-day,” and this minor ankle roll is not expected to keep him out for Golden State’s season opener on October 21 against the Lakers.</p><p>Although some swelling in his ankle remains, the Warriors are confident that Butler will be available and ready for Opening Night in Los Angeles, sources said.</p><p>More concern surrounds Moses Moody, who is <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-moses-moody-dealing-calf-injury">dealing with a calf injury</a> he had imaging done on, than Butler.</p><p>So far this preseason, Butler has made two appearances, registering 21 points, six rebounds, and five assists in 32 total minutes. Much like Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, the 36-year-old forward has been easing his way into full speed and letting others get involved during these tune-up games.</p><p>In 30 games with Golden State last season, Butler averaged 17.9 points, 5.9 assists, and 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting 47.6 percent from the floor.</p><p>With Butler on the floor, the Warriors posted a 23-7 record during the 2024-25 regular season and went on to advance to the 2025 Western Conference semifinals, where they fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, Al Horford and Moses Moody <a href="https://x.com/anthonyVslater/status/1977107994304565675" rel="noopener">are all out</a> versus the Los Angeles Lakers, per ESPN’s Anthony Slater.</p><p>“Curry is banged up, per {head coach Steve Kerr}, but plan is to play Tuesday in Portland,” Slater posted on X. Additionally, Moody has <a href="https://x.com/anthonyvslater/status/1977108435813732487?s=46&amp;t=vnLDgTn4yNZudl1UzUUjJA" rel="noopener">a calf issue</a> that the team believes is minor. He will get an MRI on Saturday.</p><p>It is always nice to get in some reps before <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/golden-state-warriors-2025-26-season-predictions-nba-schedule-release">the new season</a>, but at least these four inactive players were able to play together in Golden State’s first two exhibition matchups. With an aging roster, which is only behind the Los Angeles Clippers for oldest average age in the NBA, the Warriors must stay as fresh as possible entering the new campaign.</p><p>A strong start is important for a veteran-heavy squad that could accrue some absences later in the season. Curry’s health obviously takes precedence above all else.</p><h2><b>Warriors believe they can cause trouble if Stephen Curry is on the floor</b></h2><p>Before he suffered <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-star-stephen-currys-hamstring-injury-rehab-to-begin-right-away">a hamstring strain</a> versus the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Semifinals, the Warriors looked like a legitimate threat to make a deep run in the playoffs. Perhaps they would have run out of gas regardless, but the greatest shooter of all-time certainly could have made some sort of a difference.</p><p>There are few gimme games to be found in the arduous West, so Golden State may not be able to survive unless Stephen Curry is in action for most of the 2025-26 season. He understands as much and is surely focused on getting himself right by opening tip-off. The four-time NBA champion and 2022 Finals MVP averaged 24.5 points while shooting 39.7 percent from 3-point land during his age-36 campaign, which suggests he has <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-mike-dunleavy-jr-stephen-curry">plenty left to give</a> this sport.</p><p>Curry alone will not be enough, however. Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green will have to remain available as well, and young guys like Moses Moody, Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski need to take a collective step forward. Kenzo is also an avid filmmaker and holds extensive knowledge of basketball.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Golden State Warriors</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>SAN FRANCISCO – With messy contract negotiations out of the way, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-insider-claims-jonathan-kuminga-peace-inking-new-contract">next step for the Golden State Warriors and Jonathan Kuminga</a> is figuring out how to maximize his fit with the rest of the team on the court.</p><p>In <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-3-observations-al-horford-debut">the Warriors’ 111-103 preseason win</a> over the Los Angeles Lakers, Steve Kerr used their time on the court to get a glimpse at some potential rotations this upcoming season. While Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler played limited minutes, Kerr used their time on the court to get Kuminga into the mix with them.</p><p>One of those lineups included Kuminga next to Green and Butler, a three-man combination the Warriors tried out last season in limited minutes with mixed results. On Tuesday afternoon, the Dubs’ head coach talked about what he saw from that lineup and how he foresees the playability of those <a href="https://x.com/kenzofuku/status/1975668525785358463" rel="noopener">three together moving forward</a>.</p><p>“Well, there wasn’t much spacing, which is the big concern. And while they only played 38 minutes together all of last season, the Kuminga-Green-Butler trio generated a poor negative-24.9 net rating. The lack of spacing muddied the Warriors’ offense (97.5 ORTG), and to add insult to injury, they struggled defensively (122.4 DRTG).</p><p>“It still feels to me like if we’re trying to play Jimmy-JK-Draymond, just from the other night, immediately it was the spacing was not great, and it puts pressure on our offense to really have to execute,” Kerr said.</p><p>“But it’s early in camp, too. And so if we can execute the stuff we’re trying to operate, then it can be effective. But it’s just not a smooth, smooth fit.”</p><h2><b>The Al Horford piece</b></h2><p>While the Kuminga-Green-Butler lineup remains a work in progress, Kerr believes <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-fans-finally-get-first-look-at-al-horford-in-action-with-golden-state">crucial free agent acquisition Al Horford</a> could be the guy who can solve some of the spacing concerns that come with those three players.</p><p>“I think Al [Horford] kind of changes the equation here,” Kerr said. “I’m really intrigued to put Al and JK together with Draymond or Jimmy. Like that lineup makes perfect sense.”</p><p>In his media availability, Tuesday afternoon, Horford <a href="https://x.com/kenzofuku/status/1975669651108733354" rel="noopener">talked about his fit</a> next to Kuminga.</p><p>“With his athleticism, the way he moves, and how much pressure he generates at the rim, it’s going to be great,” Horford said. “I feel like with me out there, I’ll be able to give him some space. He probably won’t always have an extra defender there. And while nothing directly came from those newly installed preseason sets, the spacing Kuminga had was far better than what he had with Green and Butler.</p><p>It’s clear the Warriors are going to continue tinkering with that duo, and Horford is more than excited to play with a player like Kuminga.</p><p>“It’s really fun to play with a player like that,” Horford continued. “The pace that he wants to play at and how he wants to attack the basket, I actually enjoy playing in that way.
