Now, the Pelicans are once again having to deal with the injury bug, as Jose Alvarado and Larry Nance Jr. will not be available for the start of training camp.</p><p>On Thursday afternoon, the <a href="https://www.nba.com/pelicans/news/pelicans-medical-updates-jose-alvarado-larry-nance-jr-092823" rel="noopener">team released injury updates</a> for both Alvarado and Nance, stating that both players are expected to return to basketball activities in two-to-three weeks.</p><p>Per the Pelicans, “Jose Alvarado sustained a right ankle sprain during an offseason workout and is expected to return to basketball activities in approximately 2-3 weeks. Larry Nance Jr. received a biologic injection to stimulate the healing process in his left ankle. He is expected to make a full recovery before the start of the regular season and is anticipated to return to basketball activities in approximately 2-3 weeks.”</p><p>Alvarado’s injury occurred a couple of weeks ago, as Shams Charania from The Athletic reported on Sept. 17 that the 25-year-old guard had <a href="https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/1703541163771224130?s=20" rel="noopener">suffered an ankle sprain</a> during a workout, leaving his status for training camp in question.</p><p>The Pelicans guard was forced to miss the team’s final 20 games during the 2022-23 season due to a stress fracture in his right tibia. He did not participate in their play-in tournament game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.</p><p>As for Nance, he too did not play in the play-in tournament game against Oklahoma City. This past year, Nance played in a total of 65 games, missing some time here and there due to ankle soreness. The injection he received ahead of training camp will supposedly help any soreness and pain that still exists from prior injuries.</p><p>The Pelicans finished the 2022-23 season with a 42-40 record, failing to make the playoffs for the fourth time in the last five years. Injuries derailed their chances to make it back to the postseason, as All-Stars Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson also missed large parts of the season for different ailments. One of those is Jose Alvarado. The New Orleans <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/pelicans-news-new-orleans-jose-alvarado-injury-update-ahead-of-2023-24-nba-season" rel="noopener">Pelicans guard suffered</a> an ankle injury during a workout within weeks of the NBA season start. This is concerning given that his biggest strengths are his lateral coverage on defense and quickness. Although, the young player knows that as much as this is a physical discomfort most of the battle happens mentally.</p><p>Jose Alvarado outlined his mentality during the injury recovery process <a href="https://twitter.com/AlvaradoJose15/status/1703579417732079702" rel="noopener">in a Twitter post</a>, “You tougher than you think.”</p><p>The Pelicans guard was a key asset in the team’s campaign last year. He was their defensive specialist and went viral for his quick steals that took advantage of a player that is not facing him. But, his presence has been steady and reliable for the Pelicans. Alvarado played for 61 games last year which means a lot of rotation minutes will be up for grabs if he gets ruled.</p><p>His loss adds to a slew of injury problems on the roster. Zion Williamson has been nursing a hamstring injury but is on his way back. Prior to Alvarado’s injury, the Pelicans also saw their other guard, Trey Murphy, go down. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/trey-murphy-iii-pelicans-absence-impacts-zion-williamson-brandon-ingram" rel="noopener">Murphy is set to miss</a> the start of NBA Training Camps and the early parts of the season. The Pelicans did not make any major roster moves this offseason suggesting that they are comfortable running it back provided that they have a clean slate of health. The offseason hasn’t been so kind to them, however. Just a few weeks ago, they <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/trey-murphy-iii-pelicans-absence-impacts-zion-williamson-brandon-ingram" rel="noopener">received bad news</a> on forward Trey Murphy who will miss the start of the season. Alvarado is entering his third season in the NBA after going undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft.</p><p>This past season, Alvarado suited up in 61 games for the Pelicans, including ten starts in 21.5 minutes per game. Alvarado averaged 9.0 points per game, 2.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.1 steals with splits of 41.1 percent shooting from the field, 33.6 percent shooting from the three-point line and 81.3 percent shooting from the free-throw line.</p><p>Alvarado was originally signed to a two-way contract by the Pelicans as a rookie but ultimately had his contract converted to a standard one.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Someday maybe it will -- especially when he's been working for ClutchPoints since August 2022.)</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>Brandon Ingram has had a few <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/brandon-ingram-joins-exclusive-club-with-huge-triple-double" rel="noopener">high points</a> in his career, but his choice for the happiest moment of his career thus far proves that he’s the ultimate teammate for the New Orleans Pelicans.</p><p>Speaking with William Guillory of The Athletic, Ingram revealed what the <a href="https://theathletic.com/4757983/2023/08/09/brandon-ingram-team-usa-pelicans-future/" rel="noopener">best moment of his career</a> thus far has been — and it has nothing to do with his own personal achievement or gain. Instead, the happiest he’s been is when he saw his beloved teammates reap the financial rewards Jose Alvarado and Herb Jones reap the financial rewards of their hard work.</p><p>“Someone asked me the other day what my best moment has been in the NBA so far. I told them seeing Jose (Alvarado) and Herb get paid. I get to see them work every day. I know their personalities and I know how much they love basketball,” Ingram said.</p><p>In a league where the salaries of every player is common knowledge, there’s certainly a risk for players to grow envious of one another. But it’s refreshing to see Pelicans star Brandon Ingram be secure in his own worth and wish nothing but prosperity for his Pelicans teammates who have had to overcome a ton of adversity on their way to financial security.</p><p>” I know how much they put into this. And those guys played four years in college, so they had to earn this. They had to wait their turn,” Ingram added.</p><p>Both Herb Jones and Jose Alvarado weren’t highly sought-after prospects when they entered the NBA. Jones was a second-round draft pick who quickly impressed the Pelicans brass with his defensive chops — earning himself a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/pelicans-2023-nba-free-agency-grades-for-every-signing" rel="noopener">four-year, $54 million deal</a> during the 2023 offseason that should end up being a bargain for the team in the long haul.</p><p>Meanwhile, Alvarado even went undrafted, with the Pelicans taking a chance on the 6’0 guard out of Georgia Tech off the undrafted market. Alvarado then endeared himself to both the team and its fanbase with his defensive peskiness and timely shot-making. He’s now one of the team’s most beloved players. Despite that, there is still a lot of uncertainty regarding Zion Williamson’s possible return as nothing is definite. If that wasn’t enough, the Pelicans received some ominous news regarding fan favorite and backup point guard Jose Alvarado’s injury. Alvarado is set to be re-examined in two to three weeks and he could also <a href="https://twitter.com/MarcJSpears/status/1638604881517748245?s=20" rel="noopener">miss</a> the remainder of the regular season as per Marc J. Spears of ESPN’s Andscape.</p><figure class="op-interactive"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">Season could be over for Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado. He has missed the last 10 games due to a stress reaction in his right tibia, showed incremental improvement. The last time Alvarado was on the court was on Feb. 27 against the Orlando Magic. Alvarado has developed into a fan-favorite for the Pelicans with his energy and tenacity on the court. Before his injury, Alvarado was averaging 9.0 points per game, 2.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.1 steals with shooting splits of 41.4 percent shooting from the field, 33.6 percent shooting from the three-point line and 81.3 percent shooting from the free-throw line.</p><p>With the Pelicans injury woes mounting including Williamson and Alvarado, their postseason chances in the Western Conference are slowly slipping away. They have managed win two games in a row and they currently sit at 35-37 and in 12th place in the Western Conference standings. They are essentially tied with the Los Angeles Lakers for 11th and they are half a game back of the Utah Jazz for the 10th spot in the West.
