As a result, it is incumbent upon him to stay healthy. However, on Monday, Giddey was <a href="https://ak-static.cms.nba.com/referee/injury/Injury-Report_2025-10-27_10AM.pdf" rel="noopener">officially listed</a> as questionable on the injured list before the Bulls’ game against the Atlanta Hawks. </p><p>Giddey is battling a right 4th metacarpophalangeal (MCP) sprain. On Saturday, Giddey sat out the final four minutes of the game against the Orlando Magic, in which the Bulls won 110-98. Altogether, he played 32 minutes and scored 21 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished out three assists. </p><p>Earlier on Monday, Giddey did <a href="https://x.com/KCJHoop/status/1982842586437202163" rel="noopener">take part in shootaround</a> in the lead-up to the Hawks’ game, per K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Sports Network. Meanwhile, two other notable Bulls are out on the injured list. One of them is Coby White, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-news-coby-white-will-miss-start-of-season-with-calf-injury" rel="noopener">who’s out with a calf injury</a> for at least two weeks. The other being Zach Collins, who’s out with a fracture in his left scaphoid. </p><p>Meanwhile, the Hawks have two of their top players listed as questionable for Monday. They are Jalen Johnson (right ankle sprain) and Kristaps Porzingis (flu-like symptoms). The Bulls are looking to start the season at 3-0 after dispatching the Detroit Pistons in their season opener, 115-111, as well as the Magic. </p><h2><b>Josh Giddey has to be present for the Bulls. </b></h2><p>With White out for the time being, it is incumbent upon Giddey to remain fresh for a variety of reasons. One, because he has that $100 million deal hanging over his head and the obvious pressure that comes along with that. Essentially, trying to prove that he is worthy of that kind of money for a lowly team. </p><p>Plus, in White’s absence, Giddey has to be one of the guys who takes over in the realm as playmaker, although Matas Buzelis can pick up the slack in some areas. For obvious reasons, he <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-news-josh-giddey-bonkers-100-million-contract-free-agency">signed a four-year $100 million contract</a> that makes him the guy they want to build around for the future.</p><p>The culminating point of a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-rumors-josh-giddeys-expected-contract-compromise-after-standoff">longstanding stalemate that plagued the summer</a>. Then of course, there is the fact that Giddey had a solid second half to the 2024-2025 season. Overall, he <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-news-josh-giddey-steals-short-chicago-feat-david-robinson">accumulated five or more triple-doubles</a>, achieved a career-high 37.8% three-point percentage, and developed into an effective playmaker and leader.</p><p>However, just like with most, the dollar amount doesn’t tell the whole story. As the Bulls go through the preseason, there have been some promising signs based on Giddey’s performance against the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday.</p><p>During that game, he scored 25 points and was 8-for-8 from the foul line. Additionally, Giddey hit two three-pointers to start off the game. Those numbers alone got Bulls’ <a href="https://www.si.com/nba/bulls/news/nba-fans-react-to-josh-giddey-s-performance-in-bulls-nuggets-01k7jyt86mft" rel="noopener">fans excited</a>, per Will Despart of Sports Illustrated. The Bulls will conclude the postseason against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday at the United Center.</p><p>However, it is worth noting that the Bulls lost 124-117 to the Nuggets and their defense <a href="https://www.nba.com/stats/team/1610612741/players-advanced?dir=D&amp;sort=NET_RATING" rel="noopener">played a huge factor</a> in it, most notably Giddey.</p><p>Overall, he finished with a negative rating of 21.9 and a defensive rating of 123.9, which is not good by any measure. That in and of itself speaks to a much larger, long-term problem Giddey must prioritize: his defense.</p><h2><b>Josh Giddey needs to get it together before it is too late</b></h2><p>Throughout his career, Giddey has never been known as a defensive asset, let alone a threat. A major reason for that is his overall lack of consistency. He has these moments where has lapses and doesn’t know how to react during a play.</p><p>That also includes moments where gets lost in the shuffle, doesn’t anticipate screens, thus leading to back door cuts on his watch.</p><p>In fact, he admittedly said his poor defense <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-news-josh-giddey-having-existential-crisis-over-awful-defense-nba-cup-loss-to-cavs">led to the Bulls losing to the Cleveland Cavaliers</a> in the NBA Cup Group Play last November. Also, he wasn’t contributing offensively and played with an overall lack of confidence. As a result, Coach Billy Donovan pulled him from the game.</p><p>He also has difficulty guarding the perimeter, leading to drives to the basket. Plus, Giddey has a tendency to leap into the air on shot fakes.</p><p>Having said all that, Giddey does execute some positive attributes. For instance, he can guard multiple positions fairly well and is generally good on the defensive boards.</p><p>On Tuesday, Giddey grabbed nine defensive rebounds against the Nuggets. Nevertheless, he still has plenty of work to do.</p><p>To give credit where credit is do, Giddey has said before that he <a href="https://www.foxsports.com.au/basketball/nba/nba-2024-josh-giddey-problems-and-resolutions-shooting-and-defensive-issues-chicago-bulls-analysis-latest-news/news-story/e8131a4f065332b5093b80b554d067ae#:~:text=Drawing%20those%20close%2Douts%20also,worth%20a%20long%2Dterm%20deal." rel="noopener">needs to work</a> on his game on the other side of the floor. Part of that includes watching film and assessing the damage done as well as recognizing signs of growth.</p><p>Luckily, Giddey is now <a href="https://chicago.suntimes.com/bulls/2024/11/17/bulls-guard-josh-giddey-has-got-to-execute-to-stay-on-the-floor-defen#:~:text=On%20a%20team%20full%20of%20suspect%20defenders%2C,easier%20for%20guards%20to%20blow%20past%20him." rel="noopener">part of a system</a> under Donovan where defense is the priority. The Australian guard played well with Coby White down the stretch of the season. He is a key piece for the Bulls moving forward. However, head coach Billy Donovan won’t have him for a stretch.</p><p>As Chicago works its way through the preseason, Donovan is getting his players back into peak physical shape. However, Giddey suffered a lower body injury during the Bulls’ 118-117 win over the Miami Heat. The guard missed the second half of the game, leading some fans worried that the young star would have to miss an extended stretch of games.</p><p>Fortunately for Bulls supporters everywhere, the injury was not that serious. Donovan spoke with Chicago Sports Networks Insider K.C. Johnson, saying that he held Giddey out in order to <a href="https://x.com/KCJHoop/status/1975995316445888734" rel="noopener">look out for his health</a>.</p><p>“Billy Donovan said Josh Giddey didn’t start second half merely as precaution,” Johnson said. “Minor tweak of ankle last week in practice and Giddey had issues getting visa and arrived in Chicago shortly before camp so is still working into game shape.”</p><p>Giddey, White, and Nikola Vucevic will lead the way for the Bulls again this season. However, Donovan has some young players, including second-year pro Matas Buzelis, who could take significant steps forward this season. As the team develops, Giddey’s production will make or break its season as Chicago tries to compete for a spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-news-plan-break-through-next-level">The Bulls have a plan in place to break out</a> of the middle of the standings this season. That will <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/josh-giddey-bulls-grades-100-million-contract-extension">inevitably bring on heightened expectations</a> about whether he is worthy of that kind of money.</p><p>It was the elephant in the room during Bulls Media Day on Monday. However, Giddey <a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1973042230995702130" rel="noopener">made it clear</a> that the money is one thing, but it doesn’t change how he approaches the game.</p><p>“Signing a new contract it doesn’t change anything for me,” he said. “There’s always expectations when you’re in the NBA, especially when you play for a big market team like this expectations are always high.”</p><figure class="op-interactive"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">"Signing a new contract it doesn't change anything for me. Last year, he averaged 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game. But it was after the All-Star break where Giddey really started to blossom.</p><p>In March, he averaged 22.5 points, 10 rebounds, and 9.5 assists per game. Along the way, Giddey garnered many triple doubles and even <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-news-josh-giddey-steals-short-chicago-feat-david-robinson">had a near quadruple double</a> against the Los Angeles Lakers on March 22.</p><p>Five days later, Giddey became a highlight reel with his <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/los-angeles-lakers/lakers-gutted-as-bulls-josh-giddey-sinks-half-court-buzzer-beater">half court buzzer beater against the Lakers</a>.</p><p>Additionally, Giddey emerged into a strong leader who exuded a tremendous amount of confidence. All of which laid the groundwork for the deal of a lifetime.</p><h2><b>Josh Giddey is the last one standing for the Bulls</b></h2><p>For the last few years, the Bulls have been able to establish a solid core. One that includes Giddey, Coby White, Ayo Dosunmu, Matas Buzelis, and Nikola Vucevic. However, after this year, with the exception of Giddey, the three out of those five will become unrestricted free agents.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/nba-rumors-bulls-reporter-suggests-coby-white-trade-to-rockets">White refused a contract extension</a> and will hit the market after this year. Also, there is speculation a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-rumors-ayo-dosunmus-future-update-trade-speculation">trade is in the works with Dosunmu</a>. Meanwhile, Vucevic will play out the final year of his three year $60 million contract from 2023 and is <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-rumors-insider-hard-nikola-vucevic-trade-prediction">being considered for a trade</a>.</p><p>That leaves Giddey to lead the way with Buzelis right behind him and emerging into a potential star in his own right.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
