Giddey spent the first three seasons of his career with the Thunder before being traded to the Bulls during this past offseason. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-news-view-josh-giddeys-half-court-game-winner-lakers-cinema">Giddey has been one of the best players in the NBA</a> during the last month, but that didn’t show on Monday night as he finished with just 15 points in a 145-117 loss.</p><p>The Thunder were simply too much for the Bulls to handle on Monday night. Things <a href="https://www.nba.com/bulls/news/bulls-struggle-against-thunder-fall-to-10th-place-in-eastern-conference" rel="noopener">quickly got out of hand</a> in the game as Oklahoma City ended up leading by over 40 points, and Chicago emptied the bench.</p><p>“We couldn’t make a shot (3-of-19 threes at half); they are the best defensive team in the league,” Giddey said after the game, according to an article from NBA.com. “They make it tough on you. We turned the ball over too much, myself included. We dug ourselves a hole and couldn’t find a way out of it; that is the best team in the league for a reason. If we want to get up to par with teams like this, we’ve got to be way better. And if we want to be serious about the team we want to be or where we want to get to, tonight was not good enough from myself or a lot of guys.”</p><p>Giddey wasn’t the only player who struggled for the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-news-coby-white-joins-michael-jordan-franchise-history-award-win">Bulls. Coby White has also been red-hot lately</a>, and he was held to just seven points. The Bulls have been winning a lot of games recently because of the way that White and Giddey have taken over contests. If they combine for 22 points, Chicago isn’t going to win a lot of games.</p><p>The Thunder are one of the best teams in the NBA this season, and there is no shame in losing to that squad. However, Bulls head coach Billy Donovan wasn’t happy with how his team looked on Monday.</p><p>“I was really disappointed, quite honestly,” Billy Donovan said. “We could have played our very best game and still not won, but I was disappointed. They are a very good team and have been the most consistent team in the league. The things we talked about coming into the game were taking care of the basketball, especially coming off the last game against Dallas where we gave up turnovers. We talked about their slapping and reaching and grabbing and being active with their hands, and when the ball does get to the paint they are going to collapse. But I don’t think we gave ourselves enough of a chance.”</p><p>Losing is one thing, but not showing any competitiveness is another. The Bulls were dominated from the very start of the game, and that was very discouraging to see based on the way that the team has looked this past month.</p><p>The Bulls had won nine of their last 11 games before their home contest against the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday. When I was here with them my rookie year, we were toward the bottom of the league, and then, my third year, we were the first seed.”</p><p>Still, Giddey is proud to have contributed to the Thunder’s historic ascension despite playing for the Bulls in the Eastern Conference.</p><p>“I’m very grateful to be a part of building something here. Obviously, they’re still the best team in the league now,” Giddey added. “They’ve got a lot of great pieces on this team, in the building, obviously, they’re very, very well-run organization. Josh is obviously able to play a role there that shows his talent in a contract year, and he is maximizing that. We’re certainly happy for him. Not surprised. He was a really talented player, but we’re happy for him.”</p><p>Giddey is producing some of the best averages of his career this season, including assists (6.9), steals (1.2), and blocks (0.6), while averaging 14.2 points and shooting at a career-best 38% clip from three.</p><p>The same can’t be said about Caruso from a statistical standpoint. The 22-year-old <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/josh-giddey-perfectly-breaks-down-heroic-shot-vs-lakers">drained a half-court buzzer-beater to beat the Los Angeles Lakers</a> on Thursday. However, he struggled during Saturday’s 120-119 loss to the Dallas Mavericks, posting eight points, eight rebounds and four assists on 3-of-12 shooting in 27 minutes.</p><p>A questionable tag for Monday’s matchup indicates Giddey is experiencing discomfort in his hip, but he will have a chance to suit up vs. the Thunder. The matchup will mark his first game in Oklahoma City since his former team traded him for Alex Caruso last summer.</p><p>Giddey is in the midst of a breakout stretch for the Bulls as their lead ball-handler. The former No. 6 overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft has averaged 21.7 points, 10.3 rebounds and 8.9 assists on 52/49/81 shooting splits over 14 appearances since the All-Star break. He’s one of five players averaging over 14 points, six rebounds and seven assists per game this season, joining Nikola Jokic, LeBron James, Domantas Sabonis and Luka Doncic.</p><p>The Bulls have won nine of their last 12 games. They rank 10th in offense, eighth in defense and sixth in net rating (7.6) during that span. Chicago has the same record as the Miami Heat but holds the Eastern Conference’s No. 9 seed by way of a tiebreaker. If the season ended today, they would host Miami in the play-in tournament for a chance to face the winner of the Atlanta Hawks and Orlando Magic for the No. 8 seed.</p><p>Meanwhile, the Thunder have won 16 of their last 17 games. They hold a 2.5-game lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers for the NBA’s top record with eight contests remaining. Chet Holmgren (Left Hip; Injury Management) and Isaiah Hartenstein (Left Hip; Soreness) are questionable for Monday’s game.</p><p>So, regarding whether Josh Giddey is playing on Monday night vs. the Thunder, the Bulls will need the breakout guard available if they hope to compete.
