As a result, it is incumbent upon him to stay healthy. However, on Monday, Giddey was <a href="https://ak-static.cms.nba.com/referee/injury/Injury-Report_2025-10-27_10AM.pdf" rel="noopener">officially listed</a> as questionable on the injured list before the Bulls’ game against the Atlanta Hawks. </p><p>Giddey is battling a right 4th metacarpophalangeal (MCP) sprain. On Saturday, Giddey sat out the final four minutes of the game against the Orlando Magic, in which the Bulls won 110-98. Altogether, he played 32 minutes and scored 21 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished out three assists. </p><p>Earlier on Monday, Giddey did <a href="https://x.com/KCJHoop/status/1982842586437202163" rel="noopener">take part in shootaround</a> in the lead-up to the Hawks’ game, per K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Sports Network. Meanwhile, two other notable Bulls are out on the injured list. One of them is Coby White, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-news-coby-white-will-miss-start-of-season-with-calf-injury" rel="noopener">who’s out with a calf injury</a> for at least two weeks. The other being Zach Collins, who’s out with a fracture in his left scaphoid. </p><p>Meanwhile, the Hawks have two of their top players listed as questionable for Monday. They are Jalen Johnson (right ankle sprain) and Kristaps Porzingis (flu-like symptoms). The Bulls are looking to start the season at 3-0 after dispatching the Detroit Pistons in their season opener, 115-111, as well as the Magic. </p><h2><b>Josh Giddey has to be present for the Bulls. </b></h2><p>With White out for the time being, it is incumbent upon Giddey to remain fresh for a variety of reasons. One, because he has that $100 million deal hanging over his head and the obvious pressure that comes along with that. Essentially, trying to prove that he is worthy of that kind of money for a lowly team. </p><p>Plus, in White’s absence, Giddey has to be one of the guys who takes over in the realm as playmaker, although Matas Buzelis can pick up the slack in some areas. For obvious reasons, he <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-news-josh-giddey-bonkers-100-million-contract-free-agency">signed a four-year $100 million contract</a> that makes him the guy they want to build around for the future.</p><p>The culminating point of a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-rumors-josh-giddeys-expected-contract-compromise-after-standoff">longstanding stalemate that plagued the summer</a>. Then of course, there is the fact that Giddey had a solid second half to the 2024-2025 season. Overall, he <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-news-josh-giddey-steals-short-chicago-feat-david-robinson">accumulated five or more triple-doubles</a>, achieved a career-high 37.8% three-point percentage, and developed into an effective playmaker and leader.</p><p>However, just like with most, the dollar amount doesn’t tell the whole story. As the Bulls go through the preseason, there have been some promising signs based on Giddey’s performance against the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday.</p><p>During that game, he scored 25 points and was 8-for-8 from the foul line. Additionally, Giddey hit two three-pointers to start off the game. Those numbers alone got Bulls’ <a href="https://www.si.com/nba/bulls/news/nba-fans-react-to-josh-giddey-s-performance-in-bulls-nuggets-01k7jyt86mft" rel="noopener">fans excited</a>, per Will Despart of Sports Illustrated. The Bulls will conclude the postseason against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday at the United Center.</p><p>However, it is worth noting that the Bulls lost 124-117 to the Nuggets and their defense <a href="https://www.nba.com/stats/team/1610612741/players-advanced?dir=D&amp;sort=NET_RATING" rel="noopener">played a huge factor</a> in it, most notably Giddey.</p><p>Overall, he finished with a negative rating of 21.9 and a defensive rating of 123.9, which is not good by any measure. That in and of itself speaks to a much larger, long-term problem Giddey must prioritize: his defense.</p><h2><b>Josh Giddey needs to get it together before it is too late</b></h2><p>Throughout his career, Giddey has never been known as a defensive asset, let alone a threat. A major reason for that is his overall lack of consistency. He has these moments where has lapses and doesn’t know how to react during a play.</p><p>That also includes moments where gets lost in the shuffle, doesn’t anticipate screens, thus leading to back door cuts on his watch.</p><p>In fact, he admittedly said his poor defense <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-news-josh-giddey-having-existential-crisis-over-awful-defense-nba-cup-loss-to-cavs">led to the Bulls losing to the Cleveland Cavaliers</a> in the NBA Cup Group Play last November. Also, he wasn’t contributing offensively and played with an overall lack of confidence. As a result, Coach Billy Donovan pulled him from the game.</p><p>He also has difficulty guarding the perimeter, leading to drives to the basket. Plus, Giddey has a tendency to leap into the air on shot fakes.</p><p>Having said all that, Giddey does execute some positive attributes. For instance, he can guard multiple positions fairly well and is generally good on the defensive boards.</p><p>On Tuesday, Giddey grabbed nine defensive rebounds against the Nuggets. Nevertheless, he still has plenty of work to do.</p><p>To give credit where credit is do, Giddey has said before that he <a href="https://www.foxsports.com.au/basketball/nba/nba-2024-josh-giddey-problems-and-resolutions-shooting-and-defensive-issues-chicago-bulls-analysis-latest-news/news-story/e8131a4f065332b5093b80b554d067ae#:~:text=Drawing%20those%20close%2Douts%20also,worth%20a%20long%2Dterm%20deal." rel="noopener">needs to work</a> on his game on the other side of the floor. Part of that includes watching film and assessing the damage done as well as recognizing signs of growth.</p><p>Luckily, Giddey is now <a href="https://chicago.suntimes.com/bulls/2024/11/17/bulls-guard-josh-giddey-has-got-to-execute-to-stay-on-the-floor-defen#:~:text=On%20a%20team%20full%20of%20suspect%20defenders%2C,easier%20for%20guards%20to%20blow%20past%20him." rel="noopener">part of a system</a> under Donovan where defense is the priority. The Australian guard played well with Coby White down the stretch of the season. He is a key piece for the Bulls moving forward. However, head coach Billy Donovan won’t have him for a stretch.</p><p>As Chicago works its way through the preseason, Donovan is getting his players back into peak physical shape. However, Giddey suffered a lower body injury during the Bulls’ 118-117 win over the Miami Heat. The guard missed the second half of the game, leading some fans worried that the young star would have to miss an extended stretch of games.</p><p>Fortunately for Bulls supporters everywhere, the injury was not that serious. Donovan spoke with Chicago Sports Networks Insider K.C. Johnson, saying that he held Giddey out in order to <a href="https://x.com/KCJHoop/status/1975995316445888734" rel="noopener">look out for his health</a>.</p><p>“Billy Donovan said Josh Giddey didn’t start second half merely as precaution,” Johnson said. “Minor tweak of ankle last week in practice and Giddey had issues getting visa and arrived in Chicago shortly before camp so is still working into game shape.”</p><p>Giddey, White, and Nikola Vucevic will lead the way for the Bulls again this season. However, Donovan has some young players, including second-year pro Matas Buzelis, who could take significant steps forward this season. That will <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/josh-giddey-bulls-grades-100-million-contract-extension">inevitably bring on heightened expectations</a> about whether he is worthy of that kind of money.</p><p>It was the elephant in the room during Bulls Media Day on Monday. However, Giddey <a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1973042230995702130" rel="noopener">made it clear</a> that the money is one thing, but it doesn’t change how he approaches the game.</p><p>“Signing a new contract it doesn’t change anything for me,” he said. “There’s always expectations when you’re in the NBA, especially when you play for a big market team like this expectations are always high.”</p><figure class="op-interactive"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">"Signing a new contract it doesn't change anything for me. Last year, he averaged 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game. But it was after the All-Star break where Giddey really started to blossom.</p><p>In March, he averaged 22.5 points, 10 rebounds, and 9.5 assists per game. Along the way, Giddey garnered many triple doubles and even <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-news-josh-giddey-steals-short-chicago-feat-david-robinson">had a near quadruple double</a> against the Los Angeles Lakers on March 22.</p><p>Five days later, Giddey became a highlight reel with his <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/los-angeles-lakers/lakers-gutted-as-bulls-josh-giddey-sinks-half-court-buzzer-beater">half court buzzer beater against the Lakers</a>.</p><p>Additionally, Giddey emerged into a strong leader who exuded a tremendous amount of confidence. All of which laid the groundwork for the deal of a lifetime.</p><h2><b>Josh Giddey is the last one standing for the Bulls</b></h2><p>For the last few years, the Bulls have been able to establish a solid core. One that includes Giddey, Coby White, Ayo Dosunmu, Matas Buzelis, and Nikola Vucevic. However, after this year, with the exception of Giddey, the three out of those five will become unrestricted free agents.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/nba-rumors-bulls-reporter-suggests-coby-white-trade-to-rockets">White refused a contract extension</a> and will hit the market after this year. Also, there is speculation a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-rumors-ayo-dosunmus-future-update-trade-speculation">trade is in the works with Dosunmu</a>. Despite the dollar amount, ESPN appears to not think too highly of Giddey.</p><p>On Tuesday, ESPN <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/46347085/nba-rank-2025-2026-10-players-unranked-giddey-harper-clingan" rel="noopener">officially released</a> its NBA rankings of the 100 best players, and Giddey was not there, per Kevin Pelton of ESPN. Something that Pelton himself said was a mistake, considering the numbers Giddey put up last year following the All-Star break.</p><p>“This is one where I think NBA Rank missed the mark,” Pelton wrote. “As high as No. 53 in 2023, entering his final season with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Giddey dropped off the list after a lackluster 2024 playoffs. That now seems like an overcorrection after Giddey averaged 21.2 points, 10.7 rebounds and 9.3 assists following the 2025 All-Star break, shooting 46% on 3-point attempts. Giddey’s weaknesses make him a challenging fit in a supporting role, but given the keys to the offense as in Chicago, Giddey can be the engine of a capable attack.”</p><p>In fact, the only Bulls player to <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/46304114/nba-rank-2025-2026-flagg-beal-reaves-best-players-100-51" rel="noopener">make the list</a> was Coby White at 71. Ironically, his ascendance comes at a time when <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-rumors-chicago-bracing-coby-white-ask-for-more-josh-giddey">White may be demanding more money</a> following Giddey’s contract.</p><h2><b>Josh Giddey has grown immensely in his game </b></h2><p>Following the All-Star break, the Bulls got the best of Giddey. In addition to the other numbers, he finished with a career high three-point shooting percentage of 37.8% His game evolved tremendously as he began to play with aggressiveness, driving to the basket more often, and getting more attempts at the free-throw line.</p><p>On the defensive side, Giddey was able to duplicate that intensity by using his size of 6’8 to his advantage and most notably fighting over screens. Additionally, Giddey has emerged into a playmaker who is able to push the offensive tempo after grabbing the defense board.</p><p>Also, Giddey has taken on a leadership role after filling the void <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-trade-grade-for-zach-lavine-blockbuster">left behind by Zach LaVine</a> back in February.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The Warriors have put a two-year, $45 million extension on the table, while Kuminga’s side has wanted to look into possible sign-and-trade options. Unfortunately, the Warriors did not see an offer they liked.</p><p>With Josh Giddey recently agreeing to a four-year, $10o million deal, it looks like Kuminga is likely to accept his $7.9 million qualifying offer, according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.</p><p>“There haven’t been any indications suggesting that the Warriors are thinking of changing their offer, and unless they do so over the course of the next week, Kuminga is prepared to end talks and accept his qualifying offer, league sources said,” Siegel wrote.</p><p>That plan seems to be coming more to fruition, as it looks like Kuminga is <a href="https://www.nbcsportsbayarea.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/jonathan-kuminga-josh-giddey-cam-thomas-free-agency/1873520/" rel="noopener">valuing more flexibility</a> rather than signing a two-year deal, according to Monte Poole of NBC Sports.</p><p>“Kuminga has shown more interest in the qualifying offer – which gives him trade veto power and puts him on the market next summer – than the two-year deal preferred by Golden State that pays more but diminishes his leverage,” Poole wrote.</p><p>The relationship between the Warriors and Kuminga feels rocky, and the best thing for the young forward to do at this point is to play out this year and decide his future next season.</p><h2><b>How will Jonathan Kuminga’s future play out with the Warriors?</b></h2><p>Kuminga’s role with the team was shaky last season, and it’s uncertain how things will look this upcoming season, especially with Jimmy Butler in the fold. From going to the starting lineup, to coming off the bench, to not playing at all, Kuminga is probably looking for some consistency.</p><p>Despite what has happened throughout the past few months, his teammates still have his back, and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-brandin-podziemski-locker-room-feels-jonathan-kuminga">Brandin Podziemski showed support for Kuminga</a> on 95.7 The Game’s Willard and Dibs.</p><p>“No matter how [Kuminga]’s situation is resolved, it doesn’t change how we view JK as a person, as a player. Obviously, we all want him to be in Golden State. It doesn’t change anything,” Podziemski said.</p><p>If Kuminga decides to accept the qualifying offer, it will be interesting to see what happens with the Warriors from there. Talks of an extension for Giddey have been going on all offseason, and it did take longer than expected for the two parties to reach a deal. Better late than never right? Giddey didn’t end up getting the $30 million per year that he was originally seeking, but it became apparent that wasn’t going to happen. And still, $25M annually isn’t too shabby. Let’s take a look a look at contract grades for both Giddey and the Bulls.</p><h2><b>Josh Giddey contract grade: A-</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Josh-Giddey_2a3f1a.jpg"><figcaption>© David Banks-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Josh Giddey didn’t get the $30 million that he was hoping for, but he still has to be feeling good about this deal. This is a good pay day for Giddey, and it comes on the heals of about two months of high-level basketball. For the majority of last season, Giddey did not play at a level that warranted a contract extension like this. However, he turned on the jets at the end of the season, and he forced the Bulls to give him a healthy raise.</p><p>Giddey only averaged 12.2 points per game before the All-Star break, but he looked like a different player down the stretch. After the All-Star break, he averaged 21.2 PPG and shot nearly 46% from three. Giddey completely changed his game, and the Bulls looked like a much better team because of it.</p><p>At the end of the last season, Giddey was an outstanding player for the Bulls. Now, it is important that he keeps this up. It is clear that his team has a lot of faith in him, and he is now getting the big bucks. Giddey needs to keep up this level of play.</p><p>All in all, this is a win for Josh Giddey. He put it all together at the end of the last year, and now he has been rewarded for it.</p><h2><b>Bulls’ Josh Giddey contract grade: B</b></h2><p>If Giddey continues to play how he did down the stretch of last season, then this deal will pay off for the Bulls. However, this is a bit of a gamble based on how last year played out. Yes, Giddey looked great at the end of the season, but he wasn’t anything special for the majority of the year. If Giddey slips back into that level productivity that we saw before the All-Star break, this contract is not going to be looking good for Chicago.</p><p>The Bulls clearly believe in Giddey, and they proved that with this contract. After all, the team looked a lot better down the stretch when Giddey was hot. Chicago went 12-7 after the All-Star break, and they finished the regular season 11-4 in their final 15 games. We haven’t seen the Bulls put together many stretches like that in recent years. It didn’t lead to any success in the postseason, but it was a good sign of what’s to come if Giddey continues to play like that.</p><p>Josh Giddey is paid, Coby White is coming back, Matas Buzelis has developed into an elite young talent. The Bulls have some good pieces, and it all starts with getting the Giddey that we saw at the end of the last year. This deal has been in the works for the entire offseason, and Giddey ended up getting a nice pay day. Reports initially stated that <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-rumors-josh-giddey-contract-chicago">Giddey was hoping to receive $30 million annually</a>, and then it was noted that he might have to settle for $20M. Instead, Giddey got $25M, and Matas Buzelis is happy for his teammate.</p><p>Matas Buzelis took to Instagram shortly after the news broke as he wanted to celebrate Josh Giddey and his new deal. Buzelis was taken in the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft, and he really came into his own during his rookie season last year. After starting on the bench, Buzelis ended up earning a spot in the starting lineup for the final stretch of the season.</p><p>Giddey has also only been in Chicago for one season. He was traded to the Bulls by the Oklahoma City Thunder prior to last season, and he emerged as one of the best players on the team after the All-Star break. Giddey’s play down the stretch is what earned him this big contract extension.</p><p>For a good chunk of the season, Giddey didn’t do anything special for the Bulls. He only averaged 12.2 points per game before the All-Star break. However, he averaged over 21 PPG after the All-Star break. Not only was Giddey performing well, but his play elevated the entire team. The Bulls played their best basketball down the stretch, and while it didn’t translate to postseason success, it was still good to see a glimpse of competitive basketball.</p><p>It is a bit of a risk for the Bulls to be shelling out this kind of money after just a couple of months of strong play, but it is clear that they believe in Josh Giddey. Be sure to follow him on Twitter @BrettSiegelNBA.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Chicago Bulls</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The Chicago Bulls and restricted free agent guard Josh Giddey are in agreement on a new four-year, $100 million contract that will keep him with the team through the 2028-29 NBA season, <a href="https://x.com/BrettSiegelNBA/status/1965493667378201007" rel="noopener">league sources told</a> ClutchPoints on Tuesday afternoon. There are no options on the contract, making it a straight $25 million-per-year deal, sources confirm.</p><p>Giddey’s agent, Daniel Moldovan of Lighthouse Sports, had been working with Chicago’s front office before the free agency period began in order to secure his client’s future with the organization. While the two sides had been far apart in discussions, with Giddey viewing himself as a $30 million per year player, there was never much doubt about the Australian guard remaining one of the faces of the Bulls.</p><p>At no point did the Bulls engage in sign-and-trade talks with other organizations around the league, sources said. Giddey and his agent explored the idea of what his value looked like from rival teams, yet Chicago never had any interest in exploring those avenues.</p><p>The Bulls entered the offseason with the mindset of finding common ground on a new deal for Giddey, and they did just that with this $80 million contract.</p><p>Now, the skilled ball handler and former sixth-overall pick has cemented himself as one of the key contributors in Chicago next to Matas Buzelis for years to come.</p><p>Giddey, 22, was <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/oklahoma-city-thunder/grading-bulls-thunder-blockbuster-trade-involving-josh-giddey-alex-caruso">traded to the Bulls</a> before the start of the 2024-25 season in a deal that sent Alex Caruso to the Oklahoma City Thunder. No draft picks or other assets were involved in this two-player swap between the two teams. Caruso thrived in his first season with the Thunder, helping <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/oklahoma-city-thunder/thunder-news-alex-caruso-opens-up-full-circle-moment">lead the team to their first championship</a> in franchise history since relocating to Oklahoma City.</p><p>Although many criticized the Bulls for making such a trade, Giddey was a player this organization pinpointed as a young talent who could lead them into the future. He has established himself as this type of player in Chicago.</p><p>The exact terms of Giddey’s new contract with Chicago were first reported by ESPN.</p><p>This past year with the Bulls, Giddey averaged 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game while shooting 46.5 percent from the floor and a career-high 37.8 percent from 3-point range. Giddey registered seven triple-doubles in 70 games this past season, the seventh-most in the league.</p><p>After being drafted sixth overall by the Thunder in 2021, Giddey has flown under the radar as an all-around playmaker at the point guard position. While his shooting can be streaky at times, Giddey continues to improve as a lead playmaker. He was one of two players to average at least eight rebounds and seven assists per game this season, joining just Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic.</p><p>Since trading for Giddey, the Bulls have continued to reshuffle their roster.</p><p>DeMar DeRozan was sent to the Sacramento Kings last July in a sign-and-trade agreement, and Chicago was involved in a three-team deal with the Kings at the trade deadline when All-Star point guard De’Aaron Fox was sent to the San Antonio Spurs.</p><p>More recently, the Bulls <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/grading-cavs-bulls-lonzo-ball-trade">traded former second-overall pick Lonzo Ball</a> to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Isaac Okoro. Like the Giddey trade in 2024, this was also a deal involving just two players.</p><p>As Giddey returns to be one of the long-term faces of the Bulls, questions continue to surround the direction of this franchise.</p><p>Coby White continues to hear his name in offseason trade discussions, and the Bulls have also been open to discussing Patrick Williams’ future in trade talks, sources said. Nikola Vucevic, Kevin Huerter, and Ayo Dosunmu are all entering the final years of their respective contracts as well and will be hot topics of offseason trade talks before the 2025-26 season.</p><p>Giddey, along with Buzelis and 2025 first-round pick Noa Essengue, are the only certain long-term building blocks that Chicago will continue to build around. Giddey and the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-rumors-josh-giddey-contract-chicago">Bulls have not yet seen</a> eye to eye on a potential new deal, and recently, NBA insider Marc Stein took to his Substack to report on <a href="https://marcstein.substack.com/p/monday-best-the-latest-nba-trade?utm_source=post-email-title&amp;publication_id=392205&amp;post_id=173056493&amp;utm_campaign=email-post-title&amp;isFreemail=false&amp;r=39f60&amp;triedRedirect=true&amp;utm_medium=email" rel="noopener">the latest on</a> those negotiations, as well as what could be on the horizon next summer for the Bulls regarding Coby White.</p><p>“Giddey has until Oct. 1 to seize upon a one-year qualifying worth $11 million that would position him to become an unrestricted free agent on June 30, 2026, if he and the Bulls can’t come to terms on a long-term agreement between now and then,” Stein reported, confirming ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel’s report that the Bulls’ updated offer was still not enough for Giddey’s liking.</p><p>“The Bulls, of course, are bracing amid the Giddey negotiations for the prospect of Coby White seeking a four-year deal worth more than the $30 million-per-season pact that Giddey has sought when White is the Chicago backcourt cornerstone eligible for a nine-figure deal next summer,” added Stein.</p><h2><b>An interesting decision for the Bulls</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Tyler-Herro-on-April-9-2025-1-1.jpg"><figcaption>David Banks-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>On the one hand, the Chicago Bulls haven’t had much in the way of young talent for quite some time, so it would certainly appear to be in their best interests to keep both Giddey and White on their books for the long term, even if it means paying slightly above market value.</p><p>On the other, a Giddey and White backcourt, while intriguing, is probably not particularly close to being a legitimately good backcourt in the modern NBA, even if both players reach the fully realized versions of themselves. Neither Giddey nor White provides much in the way of defense, and both struggle to play off the ball, which led to some awkward offense at times last year in Chicago.</p><p>Still, the alternative may be losing one or both of them for nothing, so the Bulls certainly have some big decisions to make.</p><p>The Bulls are slated to kick off their 2025-26 season at home against the Detroit Pistons at 8:00 PM ET.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Altogether, the Bulls have been unwavering in offering Giddey $20 million per year.</p><p>However, Giddey believes he is worth $30 million.</p><p>Recently, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-rumors-the-80-million-contract-chicago-offered-josh-giddey-start-free-agency">Bulls made Giddey an offer of $80 million for four years</a>, approximately $22 million each year. That is well below his demanding price.</p><p>According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, this could be the<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/siegels-scoop-jonathan-kuminga-josh-giddey-follow-cam-thomas-qualifying-offer"> last attempt at a compromise from both sides</a>.</p><p><i>“Although they held firm on their offer of around $20 million per season, the Bulls have recently increased their proposed contract to try and end this stalemate. Chicago has presented Giddey and his representation with a four-year contract in the ballpark of $85 million to $90 million, league sources said.”</i></p><p><i>“This is likely the last contract proposal the Bulls will offer this offseason, as it’s essentially a compromise from what both sides wanted. Whereas the Bulls entered the summer wanting to keep Giddey on a deal around $20 million per season, he wanted to be paid close to $30 million per year.”</i></p><h2><b>The Bulls want to keep Josh Giddey</b></h2><p>Undoubtedly, the Bulls are doing everything they can to keep Giddey.</p><p>He is a restricted free agent. This gives the Bulls the right to match any offer another team would give him, thus giving them leverage.</p><p>Furthermore, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/nba-rumors-bulls-still-not-talking-josh-giddey-sign-trade-despite-threat">Bulls are not engaging in any sign-and-trade deals</a>.</p><p>Meanwhile, they<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-news-chicagos-90-million-patrick-williams-plan-revealed"> signed Patrick Williams to a five-year $90 million contract</a> in 2024. This past year, Giddey had a considerably better season than Williams.</p><p>He averaged 14.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game. In contrast, Williams finished averaging 9.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.</p><p>Those numbers along <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXttWS6z1EY&amp;t=815s">doesn’t bode well</a> in terms of who’s more valuable to the franchise, per Bobby Marks of ESPN.</p><p>“So when you dig around the Josh Giddey situation, who had a terrific year, certainly the last 25 games, he was offered four years, $80 million when free agency started, that number has gone up to four years, $88 million,” Marks said.</p><p>“That number is at the bottom of the starting point guards here. So, if you’re the Bulls and you just committed five years, $90 million to Patrick Williams based on a lesser body of work, now you’re all of a sudden drawing a line in the sand as far as where you are with Josh Giddey here.”</p><p>Giddey has the option to <a href="https://sports.yahoo.com/article/josh-giddey-gets-long-term-183246211.html#:~:text=Recently%2C%20reports%20have%20come%20out,the%20Bulls'%20side%20of%20things.">accept a qualifying offer</a> from the Bulls. While the restricted free agency market has dragged on, leaving the likes of Jonathan Kuminga and Josh Giddey without contracts, the first domino has fallen with Cam Thomas.</p><p>Although he wanted to secure his long-term future, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/brooklyn-nets/nets-news-cam-thomas-signing-6-million-qualifying-offer-stalemate">Thomas accepted his $5.9 million qualifying offer</a> from the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday.</p><p>This is a bold move by the 23-year-old shooting guard, especially considering that he left a good amount of money on the table. While the Nets and Thomas were never close to reaching a long-term commitment with one another, the Nets were willing to increase his pay on a small deal.</p><p>The best offer, from a financial perspective for Thomas, was a <a href="https://x.com/BrettSiegelNBA/status/1963595759724495236" rel="noopener">short-term contract</a> valued around the mid-level exception ($14.1 million for the 2025-26 season), league sources told ClutchPoints.</p><p>It turns out this deal was a <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/46153839/sources-nets-cam-thomas-picks-6m-deal-fa-2026" rel="noopener">two-year, $30 million offer</a> that contained a team option, according to ESPN. Thomas declined this offer, as well as a one-year, $9.5 million contract that would have paid him more during the 2025-26 season, but he would have had to waive his no-trade clause.</p><p>As a result of not getting the exact terms he wanted in a deal with the Nets, Thomas has set the stage for the rest of this year’s restricted free agent market to settle their disputes.</p><p>Kuminga, Giddey, and Quentin Grimes remain in their convoluted situations, and they have less than four weeks to decide on whether they too will follow in Thomas’ footsteps by accepting the qualifying offer.</p><p>Out of these three players, Kuminga is the most likely to do so.</p><h2><b>Jonathan Kuminga trending towards no deal</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Warriors-Jonathan-Kuminga-dribbling-.jpg"><figcaption>Stephen Lew-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>All along, the Golden State Warriors have called Jonathan Kuminga’s “bluff” about his $7.9 million qualifying offer.</p><p>Between <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/siegels-scoop-jonathan-kuminga-standoff-warriors-final-stages">shutting the door on sign-and-trade opportunities</a> and offering him a large sum of money on a short-term deal, the Warriors have remained confident in their standing with the restricted free agent this offseason.</p><p>However, this situation has given Golden State fans and those supporting Kuminga every reason not to be confident in the trajectory of where things are heading.</p><p>Kuminga has essentially been handcuffed by the Dubs as a restricted free agent this offseason.</p><p>While there was an understanding entering the summer that the team and 22-year-old forward would <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/sources-warriors-unmoved-kings-suns-jonathan-kuminga-sign-trade-pursuit">explore sign-and-trade opportunities</a>, no deal of value ever materialized to the Warriors’ liking. Not to mention, owner Joe Lacob, general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr., and the front office made it clear they would not be bullied into a deal.</p><p>If there was a trade that brought them draft compensation and a young talent to replace Kuminga, the Warriors would’ve been open to said deal, sources said. But that’s the problem — this type of trade was never offered to the Dubs despite the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns expressing strong interest in Kuminga.</p><p>Since the start of free agency, the two parties have been far apart in contract negotiations.</p><p>This is not only due to Golden State’s unwillingness to adjust its offer but also in large part because Kuminga doesn’t envision a future with the Warriors after their ongoing, failed contract discussions over the last two years.</p><p>The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-stories/jonathan-kuminga-josh-giddey-intel-entering-september-siegels-scoop">Warriors’ offer has stood firm</a> to this point: a two-year, $45 million contract with a team option in Year 2 and language that would force Kuminga to waive his no-trade clause.</p><p>Essentially, they want Kuminga to return on their terms and on a contract that can easily be flipped into value before the trade deadline in February. From Kuminga’s point of view, this deal would strip away any ounce of leverage he still owns over the Warriors, and it results in him not having a say on his future.</p><p>Unless Golden State was willing to offer him a long-term deal in the $25 million to $30 million per year range this offseason, Kuminga and his representation have had their eyes set on 2026 free agency, when multiple teams will have a lot of cap space to pursue the athletic forward.</p><p>If the Warriors were to slightly alter this two-year proposal, giving some leverage back to Kuminga in the form of a player option or guaranteed money, then perhaps a compromise could be reached.</p><p>There haven’t been any indications suggesting that the Warriors are thinking of changing their offer, and unless they do so over the course of the next week, Kuminga is prepared to end talks and accept his qualifying offer, league sources said.</p><p>At the end of the day, Kuminga wants to feel valued, and the Warriors haven’t given him ample reasons to want to stay.</p><p>That is why all roads currently lead to Kuminga becoming an unrestricted free agent next summer and being able to choose his next home without the Dubs dictating such.</p><p>From the Warriors’ perspective, this puts them in a bind.</p><p>The whole idea of not settling on anything regarding Kuminga over the last two years was that the organization didn’t want to lose him for nothing. Well, if Kuminga accepts his qualifying offer as a result of the Warriors not changing their current contract offer, that is exactly what will happen.</p><p>With the way things have been trending, Kuminga’s “bluff” of accepting his qualifying offer appears to be on the verge of becoming the Warriors’ reality.</p><h2><b>Bulls confident in Josh Giddey approach</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Josh-Giddey-walking-into-Bulls-arena.jpg"><figcaption>Matt Marton-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>When the Chicago Bulls traded Alex Caruso for Josh Giddey last offseason, they did so with the mindset that the Australian guard would be one of the faces of their franchise moving forward.</p><p>In his one season with the organization, Giddey proved to be the all-around talent this franchise needs to expedite its rebuild, which has been happening since the 1997-98 season.</p><p>That is why the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/editorials/siegels-scoop-josh-giddey-jonathan-kuminga-rfa-market-unchanged">Bulls haven’t entertained any sign-and-trade talks</a> regarding Giddey this offseason. At no point did the team pursue such an idea, nor did they hold discussions with any team about moving Giddey, sources said.</p><p>Throughout the summer, the long-standing belief from Chicago was that they would reach a long-term deal with the 22-year-old. He clearly wants to return, and the team can’t afford to lose Giddey at this juncture.</p><p>However, the Bulls clearly need Giddey more than he needs them, which is why he does hold some leverage in this restricted free agency situation and has held out to this point.</p><p>Although they held firm on their offer of around $20 million per season, the Bulls have recently increased their proposed contract to try and end this stalemate. Chicago has presented Giddey and his representation with a four-year contract in the ballpark of $85 million to $90 million, league sources said.</p><p>This is likely the last contract proposal the Bulls will offer this offseason, as it’s essentially a compromise from what both sides wanted. Whereas the Bulls entered the summer wanting to keep Giddey on a deal around $20 million per season, he wanted to be paid close to $30 million per year.</p><p>While the Bulls had hoped that a deal would’ve been reached by now, they remain confident that Giddey won’t follow the same path as Kuminga and Thomas in restricted free agency.</p><p>Then again, if he isn’t happy with this new offer from the Bulls, then the $11.1 million qualifying offer is the only other choice.</p><h2><b>Cam Thomas sets stage for Jonathan Kuminga, Josh Giddey</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Nets-Cam-Thomas-with-hands-on-hips.jpg"><figcaption>Brad Penner-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>It always seemed likely that <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/brooklyn-nets/nets-rumors-why-cam-thomas-showing-increasing-interest-6-million-qualifying-offer">Cam Thomas would accept his qualifying offer.</a></p><p>Since the start of the 2024-25 season, the Nets had been signaling a change with Thomas. Aside from his role slightly changing on the court and the team wanting him to become more of a passer than he had been previously, Brooklyn didn’t seem interested in a long-term extension.</p><p>Ongoing rumors of Thomas being shopped around the trade deadline led to the foregone conclusion that his long-term future wouldn’t be with the Nets.</p><p>At no point did the Nets want to commit long-term money to Thomas this offseason, sources said. Brooklyn wanted to maintain cap flexibility after not utilizing their cap space in free agency, and the organization structured their conversations with Thomas around this idea.</p><p>The Nets never offered more than a short-term deal valued around the mid-level exception.</p><p>With Thomas wanting a fresh start and not seeing his NBA future being in Brooklyn, especially after the team invested so many first-round picks in guards over the last two years, a decision to accept his qualifying offer was easy.</p><p>Thomas will now play out his one-year contract with the Nets and is determined to prove his value entering 2026 free agency in hopes of securing a long-term contract over $20 million per season from another team, sources said.</p><p>So, where do the Nets and Thomas go from here?</p><p>After accepting his qualifying offer, Thomas now owns a no-trade clause and has full control over his future. The Nets can’t trade him without his permission, and it’s hard to imagine any team would target the young guard before the 2026 trade deadline since he will be entering unrestricted free agency.</p><p>With the Nets still rebuilding and focusing on their youth, it will be interesting to see if Thomas is shut down late in the year or sees his overall minutes decrease.</p><h2><b>76ers’ financial problems with Quentin Grimes</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/76ers-Quentin-Grimes.jpg"><figcaption>Brett Davis-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Like the Bulls with Giddey, there is no reason for Philadelphia 76ers fans to worry about Quentin Grimes not being on the team’s roster for the 2025-26 season.</p><p>Grimes will be filling the Sixers’ 14th roster spot and once again be a key offensive weapon for the team to turn to. The only question is whether he will accept his qualifying offer to find common ground on a new deal from the organization.</p><p>The problem with a new, long-term contract from the 76ers is that they find themselves in a <a href="https://www.capsheets.com/philadelphia-76ers-cap-sheet/" rel="noopener">financial crunch.</a></p><p>With 13 players under contract for the 2025-26 season, Philadelphia is right at the luxury tax line and about $10 million from the first apron.</p><p>Any long-term contract with Grimes immediately pushes the 76ers over the first apron, and it could result in them becoming a second-apron team this year. If this were an option for the Sixers, then a new deal would’ve been agreed upon by now. As a result, it’s safe to assume that Daryl Morey and his front office will be avoiding the second apron altogether.</p><p>As far as what Grimes wants, he has followed a similar approach as the other restricted free agents this offseason by asking for a contract that exceeds his overall value to the team. Grimes has wanted a deal over $20 million per season, but the Sixers don’t want to surpass $15 million since doing so would force them to go over the second apron.</p><p>There haven’t been any updates about where Grimes and the 76ers stand in their holdout, and it’s unknown if there is some sort of compromise the two sides can reach before the 2021 first-round pick is forced to pick up his qualifying offer.</p><p>If a new deal is reached with Grimes and he doesn’t accept his qualifying offer, the Sixers will be an apron team during the 2025-26 season. Grimes’ qualifying offer is valued at $8.7 million, which would put the 76ers right below the first apron entering the year with 14 players under contract.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The expectation is for the two parties to get something done soon, but so far, they haven’t seen eye to eye. As the contract saga continues, there are reportedly some other teams across the league that have shown interest in Giddey. However, the Bulls are not engaging in any sign-and-trade discussions.</p><p>Obviously, the Bulls don’t have all the say here. Josh Giddey has to agree to what Chicago wants to do, but <a href="https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/281724/Josh-Giddey-Bulls-Remain-Far-Apart-On-Contract-With-Qualifying-Offer-Resolution-Possible" rel="noopener">it is clear</a> that the Bulls do not want to lose their star.</p><p>“Will Giddey sign the qualifying offer?” Jake Fischer said in a report. “That is his threat. That is his leverage right now over the Chicago Bulls. Chicago doesn’t want to lose Josh Giddey at all,” said Fischer. “They’ve been telling other teams, they’ve been telling agents since the combine, that they are not interested in having any discussion whatsoever with Josh Giddey. They value Josh Giddey.”</p><p>It has been evident from the start how much the Bulls value Giddey. They took a risk to get him after turning down what seemed like better offers, but Giddey’s play at the end of the last season showed why Chicago liked him so much.</p><p>“They traded Alex Caruso straight up for Josh Giddey when they had offers from various teams over the years for multiple first-round picks for Alex Caruso,” Fischer added. “That’s how much they value Josh Giddey. They see him as a major focal point of their roster moving forward. But they are not going to engage in any sign-and-trade scenario, and they’re not really going to move off their offer.
