A restricted free agent, the Bulls have always had the inside track when it comes to keeping Giddey around, but to this point, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/bulls-rumors-josh-giddey-wont-get-30-million-annually-contract">no deal has been reached</a>. According to one NBA insider, Giddey has made an intriguing move during the Bulls’ Summer League action that has drawn some attention.</p><p>Giddey starred for the Bulls down the stretch of the 2024-25 campaign, as he averaged 20.2 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 8.1 assists per game over his final 24 contests of the season. As a result, Giddey wants a substantial pay raise, but Chicago hasn’t met his asking price just yet. While Giddey is in Las Vegas for the team’s Summer League action, he <a href="https://x.com/JakeLFischer/status/1944214555808477673" rel="noopener">hasn’t shown up</a> to any of the Bulls’ games, suggesting that contract talks between the two sides aren’t going well.</p><p>“Josh Giddey is in Las Vegas, but has noticeably been absent from both Bulls games at Summer League,” Jake Fischer reported in a post on X. “Several veterans just sat courtside here. Certainly seems like an indication that negotiations between the point guard and Chicago are not trending in an amicable direction.”</p><h2><b>Bulls have ground to cover in Josh Giddey contract negotiations</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Josh-Giddey.jpg"><figcaption>Alonzo Adams-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>Once Giddey took on a bigger role for the Bulls, he quickly showed what he is capable of, which has incentivized the team to try to find a way to keep him in town. Giddey’s RFA status has made his negotiations a bit more complex, and while it has seemed like Chicago has been close to extending him at several points, the fact that he’s skipping the team’s Summer League games, when several of the team’s other veteran players are showing up and supporting their team, isn’t a great sign.</p><p>There is still time for the Bulls to meet Giddey’s asking price, but the longer they wait, the more time they give other teams to craft an offer for him that he could end up signing. One big decision the Warriors have yet to make is what to do <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/golden-state-warriors/warriors-news-draymond-green-denies-nba-free-agency-cba-rant-jonathan-kuminga">about Jonathan Kuminga</a>, who remains unsigned and is a polarizing player both for Golden State and around the league.</p><p>Recently, Gilbert Arenas took to his own “Gil’s Arena Show” podcast <a href="https://youtu.be/r0kQdolJSUM?t=1132" rel="noopener">with an idea</a> that would send Kuminga to the Chicago Bulls.</p><p>“They’re looking like they’d try to go after like a (Josh) Giddey type. That’s their type of player. Giddey,” said Arenas of the Warriors.</p><p>Podcast guest Nick Young also weighed in on the idea.</p><p>“For sure Giddey. Oh he’d love Giddey. That’d be his favorite new position,” he said.</p><p>Arenas then broke down what Giddey’s potential fit in a Warriors jersey would look like.</p><p>“They’d put Giddey at the one,” he said. “They’d put him at the Point and say, ‘Yeah, just do you.’ Now they have a guy who’s going to rebound, pass the ball, shoot like he’ll hit shots.”</p><h2><b>An interesting idea</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Josh-Giddey-of-the-Bulls.jpg"><figcaption>David Banks-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Complicating Gilbert Arenas’ idea is the fact that Josh Giddey is also currently a restricted free agent and is widely expected to return to the Chicago Bulls, who traded for him last summer, on a new, lucrative contract.</p><p>However, in theory, the idea of Giddey on the Warriors could be enticing. Giddey is an outstanding playmaker at 6’8″, able to see above the defense and make solid reads. As history has proven, Stephen Curry is more than comfortable playing off the ball at times,  using the threat of his all-time great shooting and incredible stamina to keep defenses off balance while Giddey would theoretically orchestrate the offense.</p><p>Giddey also showed signs of an improved outside jumper down the stretch of last season for the Bulls, but it remains to be seen whether that was evidence of a long-term change of just a blip on the radar.</p><p>While a Giddey-Kuminga swap seems unlikely at best, this is the time of the offseason when fans’ minds start to wander.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

It’s not clear when he’ll sign a new deal, but the latest rumors suggest he’s likely to head back to the Chicago Bulls. However, he may not receive the $30 million annually that’s been noted by the media in recent weeks.</p><p>In the latest episode of “The Fastbreak,” featuring Bulls insider K.C. Johnson, Johnson claims that both the organization and Josh Giddey <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WO0KByRE7M" rel="noopener">want to finalize a deal</a>.</p><p>Chicago is in no rush, as the franchise holds the upper hand due to Giddey being a restricted free agent. But overall, Johnson claims he has not heard from the rumor mill that the front office plans to pay Giddey $30 million annually.</p><p>“The Bulls and Giddey want to get a deal done,” said Bulls insider K.C. Johnson. “I don’t have particular numbers other than to say that Josh Giddey’s $30 million a year price tag that has been well-documented in media and out there since last fall when the rookie contract extension was discussed, has not ever crossed my radar.</p><p>“I have never heard the Bulls mention that number. So I would not expect Josh Giddey to sign a $30 million [annual] deal.”</p><figure class="op-interactive"></figure><p>Chicago traded for Josh Giddey in the summer of 2024, giving the team a solid young guard to develop with the rest of the young players on the roster.</p><p>In his first year with the Bulls, the 22-year-old guard played 70 games. Putting up starting minutes, Giddey averaged 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game while owning a 46.5% field-goal percentage and going 37.8% from beyond the arc.</p><p>As a restricted free agent, if <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-news-is-josh-giddey-teasing-new-contract-latest-ig-story">any team offers Josh Giddey</a> a contract, the Bulls will have the opportunity to match it, keeping him in Chicago. It’s obvious that they’re trying to build something with what they have now, and they have a number of players who could make this team special for years to come. One of those players is Josh Giddey, who was playing at a high level toward the end of the season.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/bulls-news-josh-giddey-hints-upcoming-contract-cryptic-ig-post">Giddey is set to sign an extension</a> this offseason, but no one knows when a deal will get done. Giddey has been active on social media for the past few days, and he’s been <a href="https://www.instagram.com/stories/joshgiddey/3670586775782780854/?hl=en" rel="noopener">posting pictures</a> of his season with the Bulls, leading some to suspect that a new contract could be coming soon.</p><p>More recently, Giddey posted four pictures on his Instagram story of himself during the season.</p><p>It should be no surprise at this point that Giddey wants to return to the Bulls, and he had one of the best seasons of his career with the Bulls. The Bulls will more likely than not sign him to an extension, but the one thing many are wondering is what his contract will look like.</p><h2><b>Bulls and Josh Giddey still working on contract extension </b></h2><p>There have been many talks on what an extension will look like for Giddey, and it looks like his camp <a href="https://x.com/JCowleyHoops/status/1941240060726399027" rel="noopener">has a number</a> already in place, according to Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times.</p><p>“Bulls and Josh Giddey are having good dialogue, per a source, but the Giddey camp is dug in on the [Jalen] Suggs contract – $30 million per. Let the posturing continue,” Cowley wrote on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>It would not be a surprise to see Giddey get that kind of contract, especially when comparing him to what Suggs does for the Orlando Magic. At this point, it could be safe to say Giddey is a top 2 option for the Bulls, while Suggs is the third or fourth option for the Magic.</p><p>There were also reports a few days ago that there hadn’t been <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-rumors-josh-giddey-deal-nowhere-close">anything close to getting done</a>, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.</p><p>“We don’t have any update on Josh Giddey. Previously, Preston worked as an associate editor for Dot Esports and a site expert for FanSided's Union and Blue.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">Chicago Bulls</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>Josh Giddey is a restricted free agent, and there <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-rumors-josh-giddey-deal-nowhere-close">might be a gap in extension figures between</a> <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-news-josh-giddey-hints-upcoming-contract-cryptic-ig-post">Giddey and the Chicago Bulls</a>.</p><p>Drafted sixth overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/nba-rumors-bulls-couldve-gotten-more-alex-caruso-josh-giddey-trade">Giddey was acquired by the Bulls last June in exchange for Alex Caruso.</a> In his first season in Chicago, Giddey proved to be a valuable piece to the up-and-down team; he posted career-best numbers despite playing, on average, less with the Bulls than his previous two years in Oklahoma City.</p><p>In addition to 14.6 points, Giddey had career-highs in rebounds (8.1), assists (7.2), steals (1.2), blocks (0.6), 3-point percentage (37.8%), true shooting percentage (57.0%), free-throw rate (28.1%), PER (18.1), and VORP (2.7).</p><p>Despite this, it appears Chicago <a href="https://x.com/JCowleyHoops/status/1941240060726399027" rel="noopener">is not too</a> keen on offering the kind of deal Giddey reportedly wants.</p><p>“Bulls and Josh Giddey are having good dialogue, per a source, but the Giddey camp is dug in on the [Jalen] Suggs contract – $30 million per. Let the posturing continue,” the Chicago Sun Times’ Joe Cowley posted on X, formerly Twitter.</p><p>Suggs, who was selected one spot ahead of Giddey in the 2021 draft and who is almost 18 months older than Giddey, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/orlando-magic/magic-news-jalen-suggs-agrees-to-5-year-150-5-million-extension-with-orlando">signed a five-year, $150.5 million contract extension with the Orlando Magic</a> in October.</p><p>The fully guaranteed deal is front-loaded, meaning Suggs will make $35 million in the first year of the deal (this coming season) before earning $32.4 million, $29.6 million, $26.8 million, and $26.7 million per year from 2026 to 2030, respectively.</p><p>While obviously quite a burden for a team early in the deal, front-loaded deals can be of great benefit later on. In the Magic’s case, Suggs is expected to make less than 13% of the salary cap in 2029-30.</p><p>Although Giddey may not necessarily want that exact deal — he may just want the years and total value — it could be worth considering for the Bulls, who seemingly have little hope of being competitive in the Eastern Conference in the near future.</p><p>If they managed to structure Giddey’s deal in such a way that he earns less than $30 million in his mid-20s, he could ultimately be very, very valuable either on the team or as a trade piece.</p><p>Additionally, and to his Giddey’s credit, he has a good case for making just as much or more than Suggs. In their four years in the NBA, Giddey, whose 6-foot-8 frame makes him an anomaly, has proven to be the better and more efficient scorer and a much superior playmaker and rebounder.</p><p>Suggs, though, is considered to be one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA, a distinction Giddey lacks.</p><p>Still, Giddey will almost certainly command <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-rumors-insider-120-million-josh-giddey-projection">a 10-figure deal with either Chicago or another team</a> at some point in the near future.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

One player who shone bright was Josh Giddey, who was one of the best players on the team and was doing it all on defense for them.</p><p>It’s now contract time for Giddey, and though there has been a lot of speculation on what his deal will look like, it doesn’t seem like <a href="https://x.com/ohnohedidnt24/status/1940214573573054638" rel="noopener">anything is in progress</a>, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.</p><p>“We don’t have any update on Josh Giddey. Giddey averaged 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists last season, and he improved toward the latter part of the year. It helped the Bulls get a play-in spot, but they were not able to beat the Miami Heat to advance to the playoffs.</p><p>The Bulls do have a young core that is led by Giddey, Coby White, Patrick Williams, and Matas Buzelis, and they could be building something special for years to come.</p><p>So far, the Bulls haven’t made any major moves in free agency, but they did <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/cavs-news-acquiring-lonzo-ball-trade-bulls">trade Lonzo Ball to the Cleveland Cavaliers</a> for Issac Okoro. He now writes about sports instead as a form of therapy.</address><h3 class="op-kicker">NBA</h3><figure class="op-ad"></figure></header><p>The Oklahoma City Thunder have finally won an NBA championship, and it’s thanks in large part to what an elite defensive team general manager Sam Presti has built around MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.</p><p>This past offseason, the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/oklahoma-city-thunder/thunder-news-alex-caruso-makes-lakers-mickey-mouse-ring-quip-after-okc-title">Thunder put the finishing touches</a> on what was already a top-seeded team in the Western Conference, bringing in both Alex Caruso and Isaiah Hartenstein to elevate the team even further.</p><p>Acquiring Caruso came at a huge cost, however. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/nba-rumors-bulls-couldve-gotten-more-alex-caruso-josh-giddey-trade">Thunder had to trade Josh Giddey</a> away to the Chicago Bulls. While Giddey struggled during the 2023-24 season and found himself getting marginalized on offense, especially during the 2024 NBA playoffs, he was a former sixth overall pick who was meant to be a key part of the next great Thunder squad.</p><p>Alas, winning a championship requires plenty of sacrifices, and Giddey ended up being the figurative sacrificial lamb for the Thunder. Suffice to say, bringing in Caruso worked big time.</p><p>Even though OKC already had stout defenders such as Lu Dort and Cason Wallace on the roster, adding in Caruso, someone with championship experience and veteran knowhow certainly played a huge part in transforming this OKC team and getting them over the hump.</p><p>Meanwhile, Giddey began flourishing with the Bulls towards the end of this past season, and he’ll get every opportunity to blossom into the star many still believe he can be in the Windy City.</p><h2><b>Thunder are one step ahead of the competition</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Josh-Giddey-defending-Alex-Caruso.jpg"><figcaption>Alonzo Adams-USA TODAY Sports</figcaption></figure><p>Hanging on to Giddey would have been a huge mistake for the Thunder, so kudos goes to them for not letting sentimentality get in the way of building a championship team. Without Giddey, OKC was able to give the ball more to Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams all while surrounding them with lower-usage, 3-and-D players that fit alongside them like hand and glove.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-rumors-josh-giddey-150-million-clarification">Giddey was also going to be up for a huge contract extension</a>, and Presti decided not to go that route, instead choosing to pay Caruso. Camaraderie defines the entire Thunder team, and Josh Giddey was a part of that lively locker room during a time when the group was starting to come of age.</p><p>Ultimately, Oklahoma City did not feel it could take the next step as currently constructed and sought to upgrade the roster by <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/nba-rumors-bulls-couldve-gotten-more-alex-caruso-josh-giddey-trade">trading for 2020 NBA champ</a> and defensively-minded guard Alex Caruso. Giddey was a sacrifice in what the organization hopes is a title-clinching move. He is now focused on assisting the Bulls in their own potential rebirth.</p><p>The No. 6 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft averaged 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists while shooting 46.5 percent from the field and 37.8 percent from distance last season. The trade did end up working out better than expected for the Bulls as <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-rumors-josh-giddey-150-million-clarification">Giddey showed some big-time improvements</a> throughout the year, but the fan base wasn’t very happy when the trade was announced.</p><p>Bulls fans thought that the team could’ve gotten more for Caruso, and it turns out that <a href="https://x.com/670TheScore/status/1932122850892071005" rel="noopener">might’ve been the case</a>.</p><p>A lot of people think that the Bulls could’ve gotten a first-round draft pick in the Josh Giddey-Alex Caruso trade. The Thunder are loaded up with future picks, and OKC insider Berry Tramel thinks that Sam Presti would’ve dealed one away if the Bulls pushed a bit harder.</p><p>“People always say that Chicago probably could have got a first-round draft pick out of Sam Presti for two reasons,” Tramel said. “One, he’s got so many, what’s he going to do with all of them? And number two, everybody in the league knew, and which means Sam Presti knew it more than anybody else, what Alex Caruso would mean to this team’s title chances.</p><p>“He wasn’t going to let that deal go over a future first-round draft pick. Maybe that’s true, I don’t know, but it looks like a good trade for both teams from where I’m sitting, but I will say it’s been a great trade for the Thunder.”</p><p>This trade has still worked out well for the Bulls. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-rumors-rival-execs-speculate-coby-white-trade-josh-giddey-re-signs">Giddey ended up having an outstanding season</a>, and he fits in better in Chicago than he did in OKC.</p><p>“Giddey’s unbelievably talented. He’s fun,” Tramel continued. “He does all kinds of stuff, but he was pretty superfluous to the Thunder. Giddey’s best with the ball in his hands. And guess what? The Thunder doesn’t want to take the ball out of SGA’s (Shai Gilgeous-Alexander) hands.</p><p>“So Giddey, also not a not a great defender, sort of got in the way of this string of great defenders that they like to trot out there. Chicago needed a ball handler or an instigator, quarterback, a point guard.”</p><p>Giddey fits in well with the Bulls, and Caruso fits in well with the Thunder. His style doesn’t work for the entire season, but that works out on a team that is loaded like OKC.</p><p>“To me, it seemed like a really good trade for both teams,” Tramel said. “It turned out to be a good trade for both teams. From where I’m sitting, a guy like Caruso is more valuable on a great team or a contending team.</p><p>“I think he talked last night about how he sort of plays a maniacal form of basketball, which is true, and it’s the kind of place where he doesn’t do that in a regular season because you can’t play like that 82 games a year.”</p><p>Now that the Thunder are in the playoffs, they are seeing just how important Caruso is for this team. He is giving them something that Giddey couldn’t.</p><p>“The Thunder are glad to have him sit out every third game. If he gets injured, they don’t rush him back, knock yourself out,” Tramel added. “Rest up, Caruso, we’re going to unleash you in the playoffs. And that’s what they did.</p><p>“And he’s a guy that when you get him into the playoffs, he’s unbelievably invaluable because, like I said, Game 7, they put him on [Nikola] Jokic. He’s guarding the best player often on the other team when it’s not Lou Dort. He’s really good on offense. We saw it, 20 points last night. So it’s a perfect trade.”</p><p>The Bulls probably could’ve gotten more from the Thunder in the Josh Giddey-Alex Caruso trade, but they can’t dwell on it now. Giddey was always one of the better players on the team, but he was a different beast after the All-Star Break. He wasn’t just one of the best players on the team, but he was one of the best players in the league. Giddey even won Eastern Conference Player of the Month in March.</p><p>After Giddey’s impressive close to the season, he is looking for a big contract this offseason, and a lot of people <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/chicago-bulls/bulls-rumors-insider-120-million-josh-giddey-projection">expect the Bulls to pay him</a>. The thing is, that could result in the team losing Coby White. Some <a href="https://hardwoodparoxysm.substack.com/p/free-agency-and-draft-rumors-panic?utm_campaign=email-half-post&amp;r=39f60&amp;utm_source=substack&amp;utm_medium=email" rel="noopener">rumors are saying</a> that the team isn’t going to get both players back.</p><p>“This is outside speculative, but two different East personnel figures believe that the Bulls are unlikely to retain both Josh Giddey and Coby White,” Matt Moore said in a report. “If Giddey gets locked in, White could be moved. I’m skeptical of that idea because that sounds like a radical concept for the Bulls and that doesn’t sound like them. Saving money sounds like them, but not like this.”</p><p>We’ll see how much truth there is to that rumor as that is just the thought of a couple different people around the league, so it obviously doesn’t guarantee anything. Still, there has been a lot of talk about the Bulls potentially trading White this offseason. If Giddey gets a big pay raise for the team, it might end up being the best option.</p><p>Coby White has been one of the best players for the Bulls during the past couple of seasons, and he certainly elevated his worth in the process. If the Bulls do lock down Josh Giddey and decide to trade White, he would be an attractive option for a lot of teams across the league.</p><p>The Coby White/Josh Giddey decisions will be a huge part of this offseason for the Bulls, but they have a lot of other big things on their plate as well. The Aussie proved to be a critical piece of this roster in 2024-25, posting 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per night.</p><p>Giddey is set to become a restricted free agent this summer, which means the Bulls can match any offer he receives. But, it does appear they want to keep him around, with rumors he could fetch a deal in <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/nba-rumors-josh-giddey-30-million-annually-bulls-contract-extension">the ballpark of $30 million per season.</a></p><p>In fact, NBA insider Jake Fischer projects that Giddey is <a href="https://marcstein.substack.com/p/the-summer-of-trades?utm_source=post-email-title&amp;publication_id=392205&amp;post_id=164617923&amp;utm_campaign=email-post-title&amp;isFreemail=false&amp;r=39f60&amp;triedRedirect=true&amp;utm_medium=email" rel="noopener">looking for an extension</a> at no less than $120 million:</p><p>“Chicago’s Josh Giddey and Philadelphia’s Quentin Grimes are two more restricted free agents soon to face their own challenges in this marketplace. Sources say Philadelphia has ongoing confidence in its ability to re-sign Grimes, but let’s see. Ditto for the Bulls and Giddey coming to terms on the five-year pact that the Aussie playmaker is said to be seeking which is routinely projected to land at no less than $120 million,” Fischer wrote.</p><p>Giddey found another gear post-All-Star break for the Bulls, especially after Zach LaVine was traded. He averaged 21.2 points, 10.7 rebounds and 9.3 assists per game.</p><p>The playmaker also saw the LaVine blockbuster as a turning point in his role with Chicago.</p><p>Via Fox Sports Australia:</p><p>“The first half of the year it’s a new situation, so naturally there’s going to be an inclination to come in here and try to fit in,” Giddey said.</p><p>“That was my initial mindset. I never wanted to come in and try, not ruffle feathers, but change the whole dynamic of the way guys played and the way the team played.</p><p>“But I think it took me a little while to find my feet, and obviously, trade deadline happened when Zach got moved, and he was obviously such a big part to what we did here.</p><p>“It kind of opened up avenues for other guys to step into. I saw that as an opportunity to take on a bigger responsibility on both sides of the ball.”</p><p>Giddey made just $8.4 million this past season, so he’s in for a massive pay raise. He’s proven that he can be a key piece of the Bulls’ future, which means they should be doing all they can to keep him in town. With LaVine gone, Giddey may be one of this organization’s building blocks moving forward.
