Two games will tip off tonight as a majority of the league will begin their season tomorrow and Thursday. The New York Knicks will begin the season taking on the Cleveland Cavaliers. This contest could be a very early preview of the Eastern Conference Finals in the summer of 2026.</p><p>The defending champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder, begin the season against Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets tonight, followed by the Los Angeles Lakers hosting the Golden State Warriors. These four teams will be in the playoffs in the Western Conference this season, and it’s a great way to kick things off.</p><p>The Knicks will be without two stars against the Cavs on Wednesday night. Josh Hart and Michell Robinson have <a href="https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/1980741010729890113" rel="noopener">already been ruled out</a>. Hart is one of the top defenders in the game and is known for his ability to do it all on the court, even rebounding at a high level. Robinson is an elite rebounder and can score the rock if given the opportunity. Not having these two against a Cavs team that excels in the regular season is not a good thing to start the season.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-news-fans-clowning-mitchell-robinson-load-management-day-season-opener">Fans are already clowning Robinson</a> for being out.</p><p>Mike Brown is now the head coach for the Knicks. He has tough shoes to fill as the Knicks let go of Tom Thibodeau after the Eastern Conference Finals loss to the Indiana Pacers, in shocking fashion. Brown will coach a very talented Knicks team with expectations of getting back to the NBA Finals. Anything shy of a Finals appearance is a failure for this roster.</p><p>Jalen Brunson will play like an MVP as he has in the last few seasons. The backcourt now has Jordan Clarkson coming off the bench, providing much-needed scoring in that area. With Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges, Clarkson, plus Hart and Robinson, this team is going to be dangerous all season long.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

It begins with Hart giving a press conference, where he is asked what he is gifting people for Christmas. He stands up to reveal his Tommy John underwear before his late-night adventure ensues.</p><p>Then, a voiceover, which is a riff on the iconic A Visit from St. Nicholas poem, guides viewers through Hart’s gift-giving journey. Admittedly, the lines are clever with their usage of Hart and the brand’s name.</p><p>“Twas the Hart before Christmas, and before the night’s done, shooting guard Josh Hart will gift everyone,” the voiceover says. “In his Tommy John underwear, he glides downstairs, with last-minute gifts to show that he cares. He was traded to the team during the 2022-23 season by the Portland Trail Blazers. After playing in 51 games for the Trail Blazers in the first half of the 2022-23 season, he only started in one (but played in 25) with the Knicks throughout the rest of the year.</p><p>Since then, he has become a vital role player for the Knicks. He started in 42 games in the 2023-24 season, but he played in 81. He then averaged 37.6 minutes per game during the 2024-25 season, resulting in him <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-news-josh-hart-cardio-joke-minutes-champion-award">being named the Minutes Champion</a>.</p><p>The Knicks made it to the Eastern Conference Finals during the 2024-25 season. They were eliminated in six games by the Indiana Pacers.</p><p>Hart has bounced around the NBA during his career. He was drafted by the Utah Jazz with the last pick in the first round of the 2017 NBA Draft. He was immediately traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.</p><p>The first two seasons of his career were spent with the Lakers. Hart was then traded to the New Orleans Pelicans, spending the better part of three seasons with them before being traded to the Trail Blazers. The injury forced Hart to miss the<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-news-mike-brown-forcing-knicks-out-jalen-brunson-isolation-offense"> Knicks’ second preseason game</a> against the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday, and had some fans wondering if it could impact his availability heading into the regular season.</p><p>Hart’s official diagnosis <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/10/04/sports/knicks-preaching-caution-with-josh-hart-injury-update/" rel="noopener">was back spasms</a>, per a team representative, who also spoke on what went into the decision to keep him out of Saturday’s contest.</p><p>“It’s preseason and we’re going to err on the side of caution,” they said, per Stefan Bondy of the New York Post. “We’ll see where he is when [we get home].”</p><p>The Knicks have almost a full week between preseason games.</p><h2><b>An interesting Knicks team</b></h2><figure><img src="https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Karl-Anthony-Towns.jpg"><figcaption>Mandatory Credit: Brad Penner-Imagn Images</figcaption></figure><p>The New York Knicks are never going to get a better opportunity to go to the NBA Finals than the one they will have this year, with the Eastern Conference seemingly wide open due to injuries to Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum and Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton, who helped send the Knicks home in last year’s Eastern Conference Finals.</p><p>While the main rotation is set, head coach Mike Brown, who took over for the controversially fired Tom Thibodeau, still has some lineup experimentation to do before the team decides on who will occupy its final roster spots.</p><p>“Trying to see different guys we’ve signed with different combinations,” Brown said. “And putting them in at different — I may throw a guy in for three minutes. And if I throw him in for three minutes, part of that is I may use him that way in the regular season or I may use him that way if he makes the team in the regular season. So how does he respond? So I’m experimenting right now.”</p><p>As of now, Garrison Matthews, Malcolm Brogdon, and Landry Shamet are all competing for one spot.</p><p>In any case, the Knicks will take the floor for their preseason home opener on Friday against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The game served as the debut for <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-news-mike-brown-next-head-coach-tom-thibodeau-firing">new Knicks head coach Mike Brown</a>. However, he may have lost one of his key players to injury already. Miles McBride may have to pick up the slack for Josh Hart, who left the game with a lower back issue after receiving an ejection against Philadelphia.</p><p>Hart was a key piece of New York’s run to the 2025 Eastern Conference finals. The undersized guard is one of the team’s better rebounders and its emotional leader. However, the veteran is 30 years old, making any injury a concern for New York to monitor. According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, Hart’s exit was <a href="https://x.com/ESPNNBA/status/1973830801759392092" rel="noopener">not because he got hurt</a>. According to Knicks writer Steve Popper, Brown did not want people to read too much into <a href="https://x.com/StevePopper/status/1970904462584840430" rel="noopener">the jersey colors</a> that specific players were wearing during the practice. Brown noted that Robinson would be in the white jersey on Thursday and noted at Media Day that he would need to see how training camp played out before making a starting lineup decision.</p><p>The starting-five conundrum stems from KAT’s supposed fit alongside a more traditional center, such as Mitchell Robinson. Towns found consistent success playing at the 4-spot alongside center Rudy Gobert back during his time with the Minnesota Timberwolves.</p><p>A similar approach was taken by Tom Thibodeau late in the playoff series against the Indiana Pacers last season after Hart started most of the season and the playoffs. It allows KAT to focus on his offensive gifts while making up for his defensive shortcomings, with Robinson providing excellent rim protection.</p><p>As Brown said at Media Day, he’s going to take some time before making a final decision.
