Tom Thibodeau has been forced to several players from his bench as this team treads water. And for the most part, New York has done a good job managing this adversity over the past few weeks. But, with the playoffs set to start on April 19, this group needs to be close to 100% to be competitive with the top teams in the East. And the two franchises New York is staring ahead at are the Celtics and Cavs.</p><p>Aside from an early-season loss to Cleveland, the Knicks have not looked competitive against either of these franchises. However, the postseason is a completely different animal, and no one will care about this group’s record against either of these contenders if they can beat them when it matters most. Of course, New York will have to get out of the first round before it meets either the Cavs or the Celtics.</p><p>Overall, the Knicks are in a rare position where their success hinges on what happens in the postseason. It feels like this group is in Conference Finals or bust mode, which makes sense, considering the bold moves Leon Rose made over the summer. It’s both a privilege and curse for this fanbase, as this organization and team should be applauded for how far they have come over the past few years. That cannot be taken for granted. Brunson is one of the best point guards in the association, and he leaves such a huge playmaking and shot-creation void with his absence. Nonetheless, on Tuesday night, in a 128-113 win over the Dallas Mavericks, Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart decided to fill the stat sheet and make Knicks fans forget about Brunson’s absence, at least for a short while.</p><p>Towns put up a monster stat line of 26 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists, and Hart was not to be outdone, as he kept in step with the Knicks star in the stat-sheet stuffing department by tallying 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists of his own. And in so doing, Towns and Hart became the first pair of teammates in Knicks history to record a triple-double, <a href="https://x.com/ClutchPoints/status/1904709947130081293" rel="noopener">as noted</a> by the official ClutchPoints account on X (formerly Twitter).</p><p>Towns and Hart both have had excellent seasons, thriving in the Big Apple despite the heavy workload they get on a nightly basis from head coach Tom Thibodeau. The Knicks have gotten Towns back to being at his best at the center position, with the 29-year-old star averaging 24.5 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 3.0 assists on the year, while Hart has taken his glue-guy contributions to the next level, putting up 13.9 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per contest.</p><p>The entire Knicks team was simply firing on all cylinders on Tuesday; in addition to Towns and Hart’s incredible nights, OG Anunoby also had himself a ballgame, scoring 35 points to lead all scorers. Aside from suffering their fourth loss in the last seven games, the Knicks lost <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-jalen-brunson-suffers-painful-injury-in-ot-vs-lakers">Jalen Brunson in overtime due to what looked like a painful ankle injury</a>. After the loss in LA, Josh Hart spoke about his teammate’s injury, citing that Brunson will <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/44146328/knicks-say-next-man-jalen-brunson-rolls-ankle" rel="noopener">likely miss time</a>.</p><p>“It’s a bummer of an injury,” Hart said, via the Associated Press. “We expect him to be out for a little bit.”</p><p>While pushing the pace in transition and seeking to tie the game with about 1:24 left on the clock, Brunson severely rolled his right ankle and was on the ground writhing in pain. Mitchell Robinson immediately fouled the Lakers after the inbounds pass, allowing <a href="https://twitter.com/ClutchPoints/status/1897888464668140006" rel="noopener">Brunson to limp off the court</a> and straight to the locker room.</p><p>The Knicks didn’t give any updates on Brunson’s injury status Thursday night.</p><p>New York’s All-Star point guard put together one of his best games of the season in Los Angeles on Thursday night, tallying 39 points and 10 assists. He was the main reason why the Knicks had a chance to win this game in overtime after converting a three-point play with just over 40 seconds left in regulation.</p><p>If Brunson has to miss extended time, which the team and Hart are bracing for, this will be a massive blow to the Knicks’ end-of-season push.</p><p>At 40-22 overall, New York occupies the 3-seed in the Eastern Conference. While they are 3.5 games ahead of the Milwaukee Bucks, the Knicks are in the middle of a tough five-game West Coast road trip.</p><p>Brunson will undoubtedly miss Friday’s game against the LA Clippers, and he could miss the remainder of this road trip against the Sacramento Kings, Portland Trail Blazers, and Golden State Warriors.</p><p>Without Brunson, Deuce McBride would be the one to see his minutes increase and likely be elevated to the starting lineup. Landry Shamet and Cameron Payne would also see their minutes increase off the bench as a result.</p><p>Brunson has only missed one game this season, and he is four games away from reaching the minimum requirement to remain eligible for end-of-season honors such as All-NBA.</p><p>The Knicks will provide further updates on Brunson’s status before Friday night’s game against the Clippers.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Finding a way to fight through the pain is just part of the job. The <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-news-mitchell-robinson-welcome-ny-return">New York Knicks rolled out the red carpet for Mitchell Robinson’s return.</a> However, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-news-josh-hart-drops-hilarious-oscars-take-latest-2000-fine">Josh Hart’s Oscar homage</a> was issued a fine before the fan favorite was handed a blue-collar lunchbox by Tom Thibodeau, not a trophy. Still, Hart’s journey this season has been a testament to resilience. From battling knee soreness that made jogging to half-court a struggle to logging 40-plus minutes in critical games, Hart has become the embodiment of Thibodeau’s demanding, no-excuses style.</p><p>Hart and Robinson’s return to the lineup has not only stabilized the Knicks over the last few games but also reignited their identity as a gritty, relentless Thibodeau team built on physicality and discipline. Every scouting report shows Thibodeau’s <a href="https://twitter.com/DoingItDodson/status/1897360482962670012" rel="noopener">system thrives on two pillars</a>: attacking the rim and dominating the glass. Hart’s return, paired with Robinson’s resurgence, has unlocked both.</p><p>“Yeah, I think (Josh Hart and Mitchell Robinson) add a lot,” Thibodeau told ClutchPoints. “Obviously it’s a different dimension to our team with Mitch. Josh has the versatility (to play) the two, three, or four. I think they play well off of each other, they complement each other. Emphasizing layups and smart reads is more important than tossing up a barrage of three-pointers.</p><p>“I’d like more threes but I don’t want to take bad threes either. I want us to take good shots with the emphasis being on attacking the rim first,” stressed Thibodeau. “We want to get as many layups as we can get and then make good rim reads so when the defense does collapse, spread the ball. Often you get into drive-pass-pass combinations. When you can get to that open shot, you have to make sure you take it. You can’t hesitate.”</p><p>Hart, who played 40 minutes coming off of knee soreness, did not hesitate in a return to action in a close road loss to the Boston Celtics. He fell one assist short of a 20-point triple-double (11 rebounds). Even in a loss to Boston, Hart’s 40-minute effort—despite visible rust—showcased his willingness to absorb physical punishment to execute Thibodeau’s vision.</p><p>“Getting into the paint, I think that is important,” Thibodeau noted. “It helps with the offensive rebounding and getting to the line as well.”</p><p>Well, Hart’s rebounding (17 boards!) was the story of the night in a five-point win over the Philadelphia 76ers. The four assists, block, and steals helped paper over the seven turnovers, which were quickly attributed to rust. Hart’s return hasn’t been seamless, but Thibodeau’s faith never wavered.</p><p>“Well you’ve got to get your rhythm back when you’re out,” Thibodeau replied. “That’s a big part of it and I think with most players, if you asked the players, they’d want to play every other day because you can get a pretty good rhythm. It does not take much to take you out. When you’re out an extended amount of time, usually the defense will come back first. Then you’ve got to get your rhythm offensively.”</p><p>Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby handle the buzzer-beating burdens in a one-point (114-113) road win over the Memphis Grizzlies. Hart (12 points, six assists, four rebounds, one block, one steal) filled the stat sheet and shushed the crowd after Anunoby’s three-pointer swished in. New York was finally on a roll and very close to wrapping up the Eastern Conference’s third seed for the NBA Playoffs. It’s a testament to a tight, Villanova-linked locker room among many other factors.</p><p>Tom Thibodeau has faith Hart will always make up for any mistakes or missed shots. Any rust-related bricks are easily brushed off, knowing that minutes will not be cut. Hart is just batting through the minor aggravations that most everyone can understand.</p><p>Still, it seems that as long as the leg will actually work, Hart does not mind if Thibodeau tries to run them off. He is averaging career highs in points (14.4), rebounds (9.6), assists (5.7), and steals (1.4) playing 37.7 minutes per game after all.</p><p>“It was a pain. It was a struggle for me to even jog to half-court, and now I’m playing 48 minutes for Tom Thibodeau,” Hart joked. “There’s peaks and valleys with it. Not really worried about it…I pray for it before every game.”</p><p>Next up for the Knicks is the last long (five games) road trip of the season. Thankfully, the first two matchups are against the Los Angeles teams. Josh Hart and Tom Thibodeau will not even have to change hotels. The Sacramento Kings, Portland Trail Blazers, and Golden State Warriors follow. Only one of those squads (Lakers) is assured of being above the NBA Play-In Tournament line when the Knicks step in the gym.</p><p>Can the Knicks take advantage? This late-season gauntlet is tailor-made for a player who thrives in the “peaks and valleys.” Hart’s ability to battle through physical setbacks and deliver in Thibodeau’s system—whether it’s crashing the boards, driving to the rim, or facilitating for teammates—gives the Knicks a fighting chance against any contender.
