And during the conversation, he explained that a key part of the block is <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/lakers-news-lebron-james-reacts-jr-smith-new-docuseries">JR Smith’s involvement</a>.</p><p>Smith, the lone player defending a two-on-one against Stephen Curry and Iguodala in that moment, made Iguodala adjust his layup, allowing James <a href="https://youtu.be/6Oag1Uojg20?list=PLp2G5GXjpIZ9833syzfb9m5Z8SJfkjpP7&amp;t=2706">enough time to</a> block the shot and keep the game tied at 89 apiece with under two minutes remaining.</p><p>“When I’m running, all I’m telling myself is like, ‘Swish (JR Smith), do not foul him,'” James said. “So, you can ask any of my teammates throughout the course of my career or throughout the course of that season, anytime that you see me trailing the play, all I need is a little adjustment from the offensive player and I promise you, I’ll track it down. Smith’s uncanny behavior while on the Henny.</p><p>We all know what a drunk Smith looks like and this clip isn’t really shocking. Smith hilariously never put a shirt back on while celebrating the Cavs championship up until the parade that happened in downtown Cleveland.</p><p>It isn’t really known if Jefferson was in a relationship or married at that point. But what we do know is that he was one of the elder statesmen of the Cavs during those years.</p><p>Jefferson was apparently engaged to Kesha Ni’Cole Nichols in 2009, but the wedding never happened. Smith</a>, a player whose talent was only matched by his immaturity for well-documented segments of his career. Now largely matured, the 37-year-old Smith is a student at North Carolina A&amp;T State University, where he plays for their golf team.</p><p>Making an appearance on former NBA guard J.J. Redick’s highly regarded podcast, The Old Man &amp; the 3, Smith claims that Karl’s inability to draw up suitable Out-Of-Bounds plays was the reason the Nuggets lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the <a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/playoffs/2009-nba-western-conference-finals-nuggets-vs-lakers.html" rel="noopener">2009 Western Conference Finals</a>.</p><p>“Seriously,” Smith begins, before laying into the 2013 Coach of the Year. “We didn’t have one out of bounds play my whole time playing for this man. However, he did so while shooting 38.7 percent shooting from the field and 29.8 percent from 3-point range.</p><p>Not one to take an insult laying down, Karl offered a backhanded compliment to J.R. in response.</p><p>On the one hand, he says he’s happy to see what Smith is currently doing in life. No matter where he plays going forward, though, it’s pretty safe to say the veteran point guard will be better off than he was during an ill-fated tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers.</p><p>J.R. Smith addressed that dynamic over the weekend, telling Brandon ‘Scoop’ Robinson he was pleased to see <a href="https://twitter.com/hoops_bot/status/1654870731824709633" rel="noopener">Westbrook thrive with the Clippers</a> after his stint as a Laker proved disastrous.</p><p>“I understand what he was going through. Given the passion that he has for the game and then seeing people around you who are supposed to be ‘the closest to you’ and your teammates and your organization, kind of flip on you, and then the fan base…He’s a LA guy. He’s from LA. I’m pretty sure he grew up a Lakers fan,” Smith lamented. “So to have that type of experience with your home team, with your home city is really tough. Fortunately, I’m happy to see him go to the Clippers and have the success he’s had. Now he’s still able to have some type of reputable space when it’s all said and done and all over. The pair are friends and won a title together in 2016, but who could forget the lambasting Smith received for his infamous gaffe in the waning moments of Game 1 of the 2018 Finals, marring one of the greatest performances of James’ career?</p><p>Resonating more with Smith than any perils of being James’ teammate, though, was the harsh treatment Westbrook received from hometown fans—a lot like the type Smith got from New York Knicks fans earlier in his career.</p><p>“Being booed at home is a really tough thing. I got booed at the Garden; I’m from Jersey. I understand that, I know that and it’s hard,” Smith said. “But the end of the day, Russ is a competitor and I don’t think he really pays attention to too much outside noise. If you know the game and you’ve been around the game, I think he was way more of a respect for it. But if you don’t I don’t even really think he cares, honestly.”</p><p>Smith turned his career around after leaving the Knicks in 2014.
