The former lottery pick of the Miami Heat has been a jack-of-all-trades player for the team, filling every role possible as they <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/blazers-biggest-need-2023-nba-trade-deadline" rel="noopener">fight for a playoff spot</a>. It seems like he’s currently in a good place. However, this wasn’t always the case. In a heartbreaking story, Justise Winslow and his brother Josh <a href="https://theathletic.com/4082236/2023/01/20/justise-winslow-portland-trailblazers/?source=twitterhq" rel="noopener">revealed the struggles</a> the former experienced in his career.</p><p>The story talks about Justise Winslow’s struggles with alcoholism and mental health, and how it was affected by his injuries and overall play. The Blazers forward’ brother talked about a call he got from his former coach Erik Spoelstra back when he was playing for the Heat that summed up his mental health at the time.</p><p>“Spo was the first person who reached out to me,” Josh said. “He was like, ‘I FaceTimed Justise today and it looked like he hadn’t shaved for weeks, or left his room.’ And everybody on the team was like, ‘That’s not the guy we drafted.’ It got dark for him, for sure.”</p><p>Justise Winslow had a promising start to his career in Miami, but injuries derailed the first few years of his career. Evidently, that sent the former first-round pick into a depressive state. Winslow developed destructive tendencies, constantly going to nightclubs to sleep with different women and get drunk.</p><p>Thankfully, Winslow was able to find his footing again thanks to Erik Spoelstra, his brother, and his own efforts. Now, he’s continuing his redemption tour. He’s currently dealing with an ankle injury, but he’s definitely more equipped mentally to deal with this setback.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The only positive to come from it all is it’s allowed a number of players to get NBA opportunities. It’s also allowed <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/tag/justise-winslow/" rel="noopener">Justise Winslow</a> to find some rhythm as the backup, small-ball center for the Clippers.</p><p>Winslow has really found his groove over the last three games, averaging 11.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.3 blocks in 21.9 minutes per game off the Clippers’ bench.</p><p>In the team’s latest loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Winslow was in a lineup with fellow left-handed players Jay Scrubb and Amir Coffey. That prompted a question from one reporter as to whether he’d be intrigued in a five-man, all-lefty lineup featuring Scrubb, Coffey, himself, Isaiah Hartenstein and Luke Kennard.</p><p>That’s when Winslow stopped the reporter to let the room know that Kennard, the league’s second best three-point shooter, was not actually left handed.</p><p>“Luke’s not left-handed, so don’t let him try to be left-handed,” Winslow joked. “No. ain’t nothing Natural, he’s right handed, he’s not left handed.”</p><p>“So he just lies to everybody?” the Clippers reporter asked?</p><p>“He lies,” Winslow confirmed.</p><p>Winslow was so confident about his statement, that he claimed to have had a conversation with Kennard himself about it.</p><p>“I think I saw something about LaMelo and like LaMelo’s dad made him. Like, my dad did that to one of my brothers too, so I understand. The best season of his young NBA career came during the 2018-19 campaign, when he averaged 12.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.1 steals per game for the Heat.</p><p>If there’s one thing Winslow has struggled with throughout his career, it’s shooting efficiency. Winslow is a career 41.1 percent shooter from the field and 32.4 percent shooter from beyond the arc. He’s never shot better than 43 percent from the field, and that came during the aforementioned best statistical season of his career.</p><p>The Clippers recently reached agreements on deals with Nicolas Batum, Reggie Jackson, and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sports/nba/players/kawhi-leonard/af27097c">Kawhi Leonard</a>, essentially running it back with last year’s team. Leonard, however, is expected to miss a good chunk, if not all, of next season as he recovers from surgery on his partially torn left ACL. </p><p>The injury to Leonard opened the door for Winslow, whose playmaking, ball-handling, and defense are something the Clippers lacked heading into next season. It’s a low-risk move, given he’s not going to make more than the taxpayer mid-level exception, if that.</p><p>The former 10th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, Winslow will be playing in his seventh NBA season and third NBA team in that span.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Says Justise should be ready early in the season but Jaren will still be out "a minute."</p><p>— Mark Giannotto (@mgiannotto) <a href="https://twitter.com/mgiannotto/status/1329305028230860803?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw" target="_blank">November 19, 2020</a></p></blockquote><p></p></figure><p>Jaren Jackson Jr. is recovering from a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/grizzlies-news-jaren-jackson-jr-out-for-season-after-suffering-knee-injury/">meniscus tear</a> in his left knee, while Justise Winslow is rehabbing a hip injury.</p><p>Winslow has yet to make his Grizzlies debut after being acquired from the Miami Heat in the Andre Iguodala deal prior to the 2020 trade deadline.</p><p>Jackson Jr. appeared in 57 games for the Grizzlies in 2019-20. He averaged 17.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists while shooting 46.9 percent from the field, 39.4 percent from beyond the arc and 74.7 percent from the free-throw line. He’s the second-best player on the team behind only 2020 Rookie of the Year Ja Morant.</p><p>With the Heat, Winslow compiled averages of 9.0 points, 5.4 boards and 2.7 assists in 241 games. He has yet to live up to his potential after being selected with the 10th overall pick in the 2015 draft out of Duke.</p><p>The Grizzlies are hoping his nagging hip injury isn’t a long-term ailment.</p><p>Memphis shocked the basketball world in 2019-20 by almost making the playoffs at Walt Disney World despite franchise cornerstones Mike Conley and Marc Gasol no longer being on the team. The Grizzlies were one win away from reaching the playoffs. They lost to the Portland Trail Blazers in the NBA’s first-ever play-in game down in Orlando, Florida.</p><p>While the Grizzlies have a bright future with Morant and Jackson Jr. leading the way, Memphis is privately hoping injuries don’t ruin something special.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

A medical evaluation revealed the hip injury, which will effectively push him out of the restart.</p><p>The Grizzlies had just started to get their cogs back in action, as they got a healthy Jaren Jackson Jr. and Brandon Clarke into Training Camp 2.0. Losing Winslow puts them out of another potential creator, as the forward has logged a lot more minutes at point guard this season.</p><p>Winslow was acquired in a trade with the Miami Heat, where he had started to develop as a primary playmaker.
